This is pretty fun, but i enjoyed when you played through an entire game a lot more. It also differentiates you from AVGN a lot more when you do that.

Yeah, corporate bullshit sucks, but you always have to find out the hard way. You tend to defend it until you become a victim. For this game, it appears that the creator would’ve had more fun writing a novel than a plot. It’d be a sci-fi version of those fantasy books with dictionaries and lore in the back. If only he had done that… But we wouldn’t be watching this video, either.

Oh and I think you forgot to credit Double Dragon for music.

You know, it just hit me that you probably used the Double Dragon theme that played in River City Ransom, which is why you credited RCR and not DD. So, forget that last comment I made.

Thus, what portion of the game was finished, as well as what cutscenes were already made, were thrown together into the final result.

Psygnosis did release a few turds back in the day, but what mistakes they made are more than repaid for because they went on to make the stellar Colony Wars games on PS1. Those titles are more epic than just about anything else from that time.

LOL, the comments card mails to cambridge. I am in that area quite a bit, and apparently it is right next to the T stop you get off to get there. Harmonix is 625 mass ave. Eat at the middle east restaurant, and play rockband, after you're done going to 675 with pitchforks and torches.

I think I figured out the main problem with this game…

They spent more time on the manual than the actual game.
But the story and backstory in the manual is actually KINDA decent. The key-word being kinda.

Wow, I got more entertainment out of the section where Spoony played with his action figures than the sequence of gameplay. But then again, Spoony’s action figures are epic. XD

The game tune he uses while reading the book, after the story intro that is,(For those curious) is from Blaster Master on the Nes. It was made by “Sunsoft”, a company that produced some of the best 8 bit(Nes) game tunes to ever be made. The other tunes he uses are all from the game, I believe. But I can’t say for sure as I’m not willing to go pick up that piece of shit to find out; and that’s coming from a guy that owns hundreds of old console games+game tunes in digital form on his computer. ->_I_<- won't even play Microcosm.

The only Psygnosis game I know of is one of the best games I’ve ever played–must have been their one triumph: G-Police.

General piece of advice: Any piece of media that claims to be the “ultimate” or a “new era” is guaranteed to be a steaming pile.

So I was just watching this again for some chuckles and then when it gets to the part where Spoony doesn’t have enough time to write the code down (and I swear this is true) when the little game computer said “logging out” my computer closed down all the programs and restarted by itself.

What I thought was really odd was the gameplay part of the game. It had NOTHING to do with the cool cinematics or the manual. Why did we need know what planets there where in the solar system?!

This is why I watch Spoony review stuff.
His videos make me feel better about my own immaturity! Knowing the fact that some people still act like this at 30, is fun!
And it makes it less weird since I, too, will still have occasional maturity levels of a 10 year old when I hit 30.

had it on sega cd. i never really played it much because didn’t know what to do. i know a few other games that are worse then this really. like trigger man, universal studios theme park adventure.

Usually I love extensive backstories for games. It’s why I dig warcraft and elder scrolls so much. But this entire backstory doesn’t seem to have any real bearing on the game.

SGI = Silicon Graphics, Inc.  Back in the day, up until about the mid to late 90s, SGI was the company which made machines specially made for high-end digital video effects.  A desktop was around $40,000.  SGIs were responsible for allowing the Stargate effect to look as good as it did back in 1994.  Eventually CPU prices dropped, as did servers, and soon people were able to do more on non-SGI machines.  BUt claiming those are “SGI graphics” is a fucking joke.

Huh. I distinctly remember this video having different background music for the bit when Spoony was frantically searching for something to write the password down on. Specifically, a track from Chrono Trigger (when you do the race against Johnny)

I played the Amiga CD32 version of the game. The music in this version sounds a lot better … and it really helped having a cheat which gave me invincibility, and all the weapon powerups I think (with the trade-off of making the little level cut-scenes black and white).
