The Spoony Experiment

Demolition Man Review

by Scarlett on September 1, 2008 · View Comments

The Spoony One goes corporate with this new Taco Bell-sponsored review of Demolition Man for the 3DO! It’s a real future shock as we cope with tight new language decency constraints, as well as mounting insanity. What’s my boggle?

Spoony between this, FF8, Phantasmagoria II, and the thing, this is one of the greats… Its too bad Godzilla (The American Version) didn’t have a game because it had a shitload of Taco Bell in it

tony December 30, 2008 at 4:46 pm

spoony this si one of you’re best reviews ever right next to ff8 and phantasmagoria 2 its really funny

brunbb January 3, 2009 at 1:47 am

This must be one of the games that used the MK engine like Batman Forever. Sweeps work really well in MK1 and 2 as well.

Whatever January 4, 2009 at 4:28 pm

Jared January 10, 2009 at 5:01 pm

Noah, I’ve watched most of your videos. I’m a married man and am not gay but… I love you.

P.S. How come you don’t like “Cobra”?

P.P.S. For other viewers, please watch the “Sweep the Leg” video. Not only does it have alot the origianl “Karate Kid” cast in it, but also Mr. Freaking Belding! Need I say more?

Airrider January 23, 2009 at 11:44 am

Is it just me, or is there some Schwarzenegger in your Stallone voice? Could be me…

Airrider January 30, 2009 at 11:34 am

What, no Hot Shots! Part Deux-style “BLOODIEST GAME EVER” gag?

Excellent review.

fable2dog February 1, 2009 at 12:11 pm

assiman February 6, 2009 at 6:15 am

what’s the music at “what the fuck am I supposed to shoot?”? It sounds so familiar…

GuyMorad February 6, 2009 at 5:33 pm

it’s like the 5th or maybe 6th time im watching this review…
just wanted to say dude, youre brilliant, great job on all your reviews, but please… for crying out loud, stop playing with dolls, I can’t bare to watch it.

Crash Gineros February 8, 2009 at 10:16 am

Screw that: the Doll bits are hilareous. Giant Dizzy Gillespie is, as they say, ‘Teh shit’.

Duality February 10, 2009 at 6:07 am

I don’t mean to sound rude or ungrateful for the videos, but the Blip.TV service you’re using to host them is DRIVING ME INSANNEEEE.

Can’t they be hosted somewhere without irritating popup ads non-stop? It’s putting me off watching. I don’t mind one or two in a video, but these ones just DON’T go away! I close them, I close them, I close them again. Every time, they come back! Argh!

Sorry if these are a source of income for you, but I think it’s worth mentioning.

Good video, as usual. However the video service is really detracting from it all… Also, WHY the hell are they advertising chinese spoons to me?? O_O

Sword_Song February 10, 2009 at 7:14 pm

I love all the TV curse words in this one. And I feel so sad that I recognized all of them. When you said “Smeg” though, I actually squeeled with joy!

jake February 14, 2009 at 2:22 am

Crash Gineros to give you some help, if just keep the cursor on the actual movie screen the you will only get 1 popup throughout the whole video.

jake February 14, 2009 at 2:24 am

im sorry that was for Duality. or anybody who wanted to know.

JC February 14, 2009 at 7:13 pm

I found your combination of Firefly and Battlestar Galactica swear words, to incite a giggle, from me.

Quinn February 15, 2009 at 2:11 pm

The “500 holes in your face, learning to eat with a fork” insult means the receiver is retarded and poking his face with holes, with the fork. Just figured that out.

Loner February 19, 2009 at 4:02 pm

I hear music in the background. Is that a taco bell song? O.o Oddly enough I haven’t heard it before.

And yeah, all restaurants WILL be Taco Bell in the future! BOOYAH!!!

chris February 23, 2009 at 1:14 pm

lmao at carlito

Drew February 27, 2009 at 12:39 pm

The song at the beginning while you’re describing your assignment, “If I was an Oscar Meyer Wiener”? CLASSIC.

Pure genius, your work is.

KatonRyu March 23, 2009 at 12:54 pm

Is it really Taco Bell? In the movie they kept going on about Pizza Hut, even though the subs also said Taco Bell. It was…confusing as hell, to be honest.

Michael Heide March 25, 2009 at 1:30 pm

KatonRyu, the Pizza Hut thing was only in the European version of the movie. That’s because Taco Bell doesn’t have any restaurants here in the Old World (or at least, they didn’t have any when Demolition Man came out, I don’t know if that has changed since then).
And here is how corporate sponsoring in movies reached its climax: Since Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are both owned by Tricon (so is KFC, by the way), THEY DIGITALLY REPLACED EVERY SINGLE TACO BELL SIGN in the background with Pizza Hut logos and had the actors dub their lines. Honestly. Now I guess the English subtitles for Demolition Man are identical in North America, the UK, Australia and wherever else someone would watch English subs, so that’s why they didn’t change that.

A similar thing happened a couple of years later when “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle” had two different titles. In areas without White Castle restaurants, it was renamed “Harold and Kumar get the Munchies”.

Chittka135 March 26, 2009 at 12:37 pm

Whats the name of the song when zell appears?
please need to know

Sen March 28, 2009 at 4:48 pm

Y’know, if you used the song “Demolotion Man” quite a bit during this then that would’ve been somewhat of a laugh.

liam April 20, 2009 at 4:20 pm

How do i be as cool as you Spooney

Locclo April 23, 2009 at 8:14 pm

That song is so familiar…what’s that song playing during the Cryo Lab sequence, when Spoony is one-shotting over 100 enemies?

steve April 27, 2009 at 2:51 pm

lol I like your shirt

Henry May 2, 2009 at 3:58 pm

I had the infinity hole on Silent Hill: Homecoming…and you thought this game was recent.

Jackalope May 4, 2009 at 3:34 am

Love your reviews, Spoony. Looking forward to further ones.

Geoffrey May 7, 2009 at 2:24 pm

@Liam: that song is Barber’s Adagio for Strings.

canuck May 13, 2009 at 5:35 pm

Where did the shirt come from? Predator being the second greatest Arnold movie ever…..

ah May 17, 2009 at 11:50 pm

LOL you don’t know how to use the shell

stewart May 31, 2009 at 10:51 am

Way better then the nostalgia critic

The Joker ha June 2, 2009 at 12:39 am

Fantastic review, brought back so many memories. I had this game and was damned and determined I was going to beat it. The more it pissed me off the more I was hell bent.
But you left out the weirdest part. If you beat the game you got to have sex with Sandra Bullock, which made it all worth while..sort of..well not really. It was this replay of the psychic sex scene they had from the film with the premise that it was you she was mind screwing.
As rewards go it was..surreal at best.

Crysis June 6, 2009 at 1:21 am

wasnt there a Snes version?

dfgdh June 7, 2009 at 11:11 am

Gaga June 9, 2009 at 12:01 am

Wait… what?

Cannabis June 9, 2009 at 12:25 am

Uh…. what? This review is old, why is it on the front page? lol, funny thing is, Me and my friend just watched it. But, yea, “Holy technical difficulties, Batman!” is fairly relevant here. Oh, and I was wondering, is there maybe an ETA for the next part of Let’s Riff On Ripper?

CaNNaBis June 9, 2009 at 12:27 am

OOPS! Just saw the Twitter thingy, Also, sorry for the double-post

littlenorwegians June 9, 2009 at 1:12 am

OK?
It’s nothing to complain about since you have been updating fairly regularly, and as you said it doesn’t hurt to revisit some classics.
Still I feel that you didn’t have to post these on the front page, but I “forgive” you since you’re being silly :)

Have a great day Spoony and all.

Rihards June 9, 2009 at 1:34 am

Again why?
Ehh, maybe it was accidentally deleted and now it here again.

Diggerjohn111 June 9, 2009 at 7:33 am

Nice to see the old classics Spoon. Yor was the review that made me a full fledged fan of the site.

Marcus June 9, 2009 at 8:02 am

Look at how young he was back then. And with no beard-ish facial hair :)
