A very good review. I saw the movie and literally felt sick. The shaky camera thing was a bad idea 10 years and it’s still feels like bullshit. “It’s REALISM, LOL, you just don’t get it”. Fuck realism, give me something that doesn’t cause diarrhea in my mouth.

Hong Kong here, Fan of your work enjoyed you ranting this movie although it is a spoiler I beleive that this movie sucks because it is a remake of an original they could have actually spiced it up by adding new scenes to the movie but no they had to make a new one which sounds terribly disappointing

God ya, that movie was SO BAD. My friend and I saw it, hoping for at least some cool zombie shit, we didn’t even get that.. it was just bad. I was SO glad the bitch died too. Most annoying character in the movie.

I thought that Quarantine actully was pretty good, It was ok.

Just let the wild beast inside of you lose” Circulating seductively around them like a cobra trying to seduce them. Saying and doing stupid things, that is suppose to be on tv.

yes, but Children of Men just used a hand held cam effect, they actually, as far as i know, actually didnt used a hand cam. the director decided to shot long scenes, with less cuts as possible.
this reminds me of resident evil II. the journalist also used a hand held camera, but the actually film was shot with regular film cameras (altough it was a little to dark). i can understand the desire to make a film realistic, coherent, but you cant achive it with technical gimmicks. if you treat the material with seriousness, realism comes from alone.

This is exactly how I felt about the Diary of the Dead -movie as well!

I didn’t get the damn movie since it seemed like a low-budget piece of crap even in the damn trailer.. but now i really have to see the movie XD (I usually get very worked up over the usual american horror-movie crap like the “cuffing the zombie chick to the damn stairwell”.. it’s all so fucking retarded..)

I rented “Quarantine” recently and no offense to the Spoony One (who I agree with most of the time regarding video games/movies) I actually liked the movie and didn’t think it was really rant worthy.

Yes the people do stupid things at times (like people do in nearly every horror-type movie in the history of film) but without stupid actions there wouldn’t be much of a movie. Who wants to see a group of people holed up in a locked room somewhere (yes..the smart thing to do) for 2 hours until everything blows over. Also given the POV style of shooting things can get a bit difficult to watch, also I completely agree, that is NOT an effective way to kill a zombie with a camera, but overall I really didn’t mind. For a much worse Zombie movie filmed in the same style see George Romero’s latest “Diary of the Dead” direct to DVD disaster (which did have a blink and you’ll miss it theatrical run). Now THAT film makes “Quarantine” look like “Dawn of the Dead” in my opinion. Lastly I take issue with Noah’s assertion that the infected are never referred to as zombies…well, they’re really not zombies. True zombies are found in Romero’s run of the films, the infected here and in movies like “28 Days Later” aren’t actually zombies. To be a true zombie the person must first die, and then be reanimated somehow, none of the infected people in “Quarantine” actually die before the infection really takes hold (even the guy who is pushed off the top of the staircase is still alive according to the vet). So, strictly speaking, they aren’t zombies.

Okay, that’s enough, I actually a few more things to say in response but I don’t want to drone on any longer. Personally if you haven’t seen “Quarantine” I’d check it out, I think it’s at least worth a rental, overall a solid “B” grade-wise.

I saw the Spanish version, and I think they did a pretty good job with the suspension of disbelief. MrBadMojo is right, the people weren’t technically zombies (at least in the original one). The reason why they didn’t call them zombies is because they “don’t believe in zombies”. The reason why the guy is still holding the camera is because they stop recording “for tv” and start recording for…whatever… after they announce the quarantine.
Also, the reason they handcuff her to the stairs is because it was the closest solid thing nearby. In the Spanish one, the handcuffs have the longest chains in the world, so she’s standing in the middle of the hall still attached to the stairs. American handcuffs are like 2 or 3 links long, so she’d be held pretty tight and you’d be fine if you stayed near the wall.
In the original movie, the guy wasn’t the master zombie. It was the possessed Portuguese girl he was experimenting on that was the master zombie.

I just had to watch the movie ond PPV just because of what you said about it. I figured if it wasn’t good, i could get a good laugh out of it. But when i watched it i decided that you may have reviewed the movie kind of harshly. In my opinion, it’s one of the best zombie movies i seen in a while. As for the terrorist who lives up in the attic. I thought he was pretty fucking creepy, especially instead of chewing the crap out of their throats, he decides to beat the shit out of the camera crew. And the scene where the cameraman beats the shit out of the zombie with the lense was pretty hillarious.

About the little girl, the explain that in the Spanish move, the virus infects difrently fast depending on what kind of blood type you got, like if you got blood type A you turn “zombie” in like 5 min and if you have like blood type B- you turn “zombie” in 1 week.

I’ve never seen quarantine, but from what you say about it then these things were obviously missing from Quarantine.

Jennifer has been sick all week, but she’s also had anti-biotics all week, so its assumed that is slowed it, either that or she caught much more recently from her dog max, who got it first, and the health people tracked were the dog came from. Sadly, they don’t say when the dog went to the vet.

The haz-mat man isn’t infected by the fireman. Gulliem (the vet/intern/the one who has vague medical knowledge) is infected by the fireman, so the injection did not work. but he states once they get out that reaction time varies.

Also, Manu (fire man 2) totally fucking owns the old lady zombie by SMASHING HER FACE with a sledge hammer. thats fucking badass.

on the way down, every one ‘else’ is fleeing for their rooms. NO ONE HAS YET TO BARRICADE THEIR OWN ROOM.

The Zombies are contained by a shuttered (after the police zombie the fire zombie and the intern get turned) door. they break loose and the inter bites the haz-mat man’s ankle, he flees, to hide in Ceasers (the Asshole) room. he infects ceasar son after. There are no dogs.

Also no body is shot in the head for going near the windows.

Its also good to note that the mother is not a zombie until the other 3 zombies get loose from the workshop.

Also, there is not old lady infront of a TV. there are is only 1 old lady zombie.

Just watched this the other day and was incredibly dissapointed, because I loved REC sooooo much, and this was an abomination of a remake. But I can tell spoony doesn’t like these Cam movies I can tell so I tend to not really agree with his opinion about Cloverfield or any other cam movies (Although I hated this movie)

Hello from Finland! I like your reviews, to the point where I’m commenting on a year-old video. I just wanted to point out that REC is the only, and I mean ONLY horror film that has ever managed to scare me. In my opinion it is very well made. And yeah, I’m not sure who was the old man you were talking about at the end, but the figure walking in the pitch black apartment holding the hammer is the girl the mad doctor was experimenting on. Talk about anorectic. On a side note, I have no idea why americans keep re-making all these asian and european movies. Are subtitles really all that hard to read for you people? One of the worst fucking movies, that I have ever seen.

I always assumed it was that grandfather or father of the Asian family that chewed on and then threw that firemen down the stairwell. But then again, I only saw [REC]. I’m planning to see Quarantine soon though, and thoroughly ready to laugh very, very hard.

How do you give away the ending of the movie, with the trailer and poster?? That’s a first for me. About half way through the movie I wondered if the footage, you know, the night vision footage in the trailer was actually in the movie. Then I forgot about it, until the last 10 min…of the movie, and I thought…that’s it? That’s the end? Wow…good thing I paid $3 for that. I saw it in theaters and 2 people(that I saw) walked out and never cam back and that was before the half way point, actually I think they walked out 20-30 min. into the movie.

This movie was horrible, and it also gave me a wicked headache afterward. I absolutely hated this movie, and I thought it was one of the worst movies in recent history. Side Note: It was shakier than all other shaky movies put together

I’m sure it was an advil. You honestly need it after seeing this movie. It gives you such a headache, especially after the first…hour or so. “OMFG we’re all gonna die! WE’RE ALL GOING TO FUCKING DIE!!!” and the camera woman at the end “OMG keep the light on me! KEEP THE LIGHT ON ME!!!!” Sure! Lemme just get a fucking light to begin with, you dumb bimbo >_<

wow, they did nothing when me and my friend bashed Eragon… well halfway through the movie everybody was talking on cell phones and shit, nobody paid attention.

And of course I got everyone to laugh when he said those magic words and shot the arrow. Go watch that scene. You see the arrow drop right off the bow while the magic darts forward… so I stood up and shouted “BULLSHIT! That arrow went down on the bridge!”

First off Cloverfield was absolutely not “great”, or even good. It attempted to broaden the scope, and depth capable of POV films, but fell face first off a cliff. The only thing “great” was the marketing, and the ARG. It was a messy, jarring, and boring film that spent more time on developing cookie cutter characters then actually granting entertainment. Children of Men is a great film while Cloverfield was nothing more then a waste of time.

Spoony was spot on with almost every single problem this film had, as well as previous POV films. It’s unfortunate that these type of films always sound so much better then they ever turn out. Suspension of disbelief is hard enough to craft in a regular film, so it would take a complete genius of a director to create it in a POV film. While some of the comments Spoony made are a bit exaggerated, I can’t say I blame him since I was pissed as well when I exited the theater after this piece of shit.

REC had a very good ending in my eyes, really effective. But the rest of the movie wasn’t that good, pretty typical stuff when it comes to zombie movies. Quarantine… I make it a rule to never EVER watch American remakes unless i hear good things about it from people whos opinions i respect.

That movis was so fucking awful. But we have to remember that the POV camera thing actually works for somethings like Peep Show.

man, just watched this movie on netflix….too right, this was the worst movie ive ever seen, at first i was oh, cool its like Left 4 Dead, since the zombies in that game are also infected with rabies, albeit an advanced strain, and even the last zombie, the chick, reminded me on the witch, the way she attacked, but other then that, if was just a lame attempt at a POV hauntedhouse style movie, 99% of the scares are predictable, and the ending…really? that was it, why not just kill everyone off in the first half hour and make it a shitty made for tv movie? the whole POV was another stupid thing, yes, cloverfield is so far the best movie ive seen to use that style, and this movie is just trying to rake in on that, im done ranting, lol

I warned my family and some of my friends about this movie. I told them how bad it was. I broke several rules regarding swear words in my classrooms after seeing it. I showed them Spoony’s review. I showed the trailer and poster and said “there is the movie. Watch [REC].” I still rage about how awful this movie is. I’d rather watch Transformers 2 than this crap fest. AND THEY ALL STILL WENT AND WATCHED IT! ONE OF MY FRIENDS EVEN SAID THAT HE LIKED IT AND BROUGHT IT TO SCHOOL!!!!! MY SISTER BOUGHT IT NEW WHEN BOTH I AND MY AUNT (who likes any sort of movie that comes out) SAID THAT IT WAS AWFUL!!!!!!!

It’s the same fucking movie guys. Almost exactly fucking identical. There is like 3 little things that I was like “ok this is a bit different” on, but most of the scenes are so completely the same I felt like the actors were interchangeable. Quarantine is pretty much just a dub, same movie with english actors.

Spoony’s imitation was 100 times better than the actual movie. I laughed so hard I was crying! awesome review.

I have to say first that I have kind of a soft spot for this movie because I watched it on my birthday, but even so while I was watching it I was the only one laughing while the rest of the theater was scared. XD

Approx. 6:50 minutes into the review, “Fuck that shit! Put two in his ten spot.” I’ve never heard it phrased quite that way before. Bravo sir. I will be laughing about that line until I go to sleep tonight. Kudos!

Great review as always man…I have to say, I liked REC, I thought (which being lower budget) that it built up the tension well, and by the last 20 minutes the pitch just goes through the roof. Besides, whoever the reporter was in that movie was bloody hot. Also, I can't remember if this is Quarantine or REC but in one or both it mentions that the infection depends on blood type, some will turn quick and others very slow…

However, I completely agree with the vast majority of what you said, Quarantine was like watching REC with a bunch of people from GQ and Guys Quarterly tossed in to replace the characters, The suspense simply never picks up. We have a group of people, very quickly shit goes down and everyone's freaking out, it's that “gimme now” mentality that I find just awful in our culture (North American, we Canadians are just as guilty as anyone)…we don't see absolute brilliant and utterly horrific movies like The Brood by Cronenberg (which honestly spends 90% of the movie setting up the last 15 minutes and by that point you can barely look at the screen from how horrific everything is), Audition or Jacob's Ladder…if you WANT that over the top feel, and you're having fun with it (“Tokyo Gore Police” and Ichi the Killer I'm lookin' at you, or even classics like Evil Dead 2. But I miss the days of having a horror story start off and slowly, methodically turning up the tension WORKS…it's an effective means to actually, truly scare someone without resorting to a bunch of “bus” gags (anyone who saw Cat people knows what I'm talking about)…ah well, I guess it's like old Jim Henson puppetry, Dark Crystal would never happen today, it'd be all CGI, and lose almost all it's appeal.

Again, killer review, keep it up man.

I have to agree, this movie just hurt my feelings. Well I'm here to report that it seems as though this message may have gotten though to whoever decided this film would be a good idea. I know you did not like [Rec] but it seems as though it did so very well it was able to spawn a sequel, which i just got through watching. After watching [Rec]2, it suddenly occurred to me that Quarantine may not be as benign as i had hoped it would be. After checking IMBD it there is no hint of a Quarantine 2! (insert angelic choir here)
Although i have a feeling its not for the fact this movie was so damn high on the fail scale. Personally i don't think this movie would make it past anyone in hollywood due to the heavy religious overtones. unless of-course they can make up some odd excuse as to why certain events in [Rec]2 can be attributes to rabies. But in my mind id like to think we won a small victory for smart movie goers everywhere when they decided not bastardize the series any further. I know you don't like POV films as of Cloverfeild but i felt [Rec]2 exceeded the original. Granted it has its dumb moments that make you question the size of the bus the characters in the film take. There are some Nice money shots and some pretty awesome twists toward the end. I recommend it if you find yourself with nothing else better to do.
