I got meself SWAT 4 after seeing how fun it must be after a few of your podcasts, and I’ve gotten quite far, and I can’t fail to notice how little you use all the games´ functions :D
I mean, it’s like almost painful to watch you go in without calling your team to fall in all the time (you have to do this, I know, it’s kinda stupid at first, but after every action they take you have to tell them to fall in on you again, but don’t worry, they follow you until the next time you order them to do something else), or using your flashlight, or pressing shift to walk for better accuracy, or using flashbangs and CS (sting grenades suck, they just stun the immediate bystanders).
I mean, SWAT 4 is (especially in the later stages) a realy slow, slow game. You have to check under every door to not be surprised, sometimes around the corner, use flashbangs all the time if you want to temporarily incapacitate the enemy long enough to get them, but I’ve noticed not all that much planning is needed. Every time I told separate teams to stack up on two doors and enter at once, it NEVER worked out right. Once I even had my half of the team stand in front of the unlocked door and say “not right now sir”. Also, the game is much more fun if you play it with non lethal weapons. You can barge right in and just shoot the fuck out of people and then watch them cough their fucking lungs out :D
Also, the game has quite a few bugs. Like when a guy died going up the stairs while all enemies were already cuffed. I mean it’s the fucking STAIRS. How can you fuck that up so hard that you DIE? With NOONE shooting at you? Or when my teammate saw an enemy through the window and began yelling “GET ON THE GROUND” and shooting pepper balls into the window (pepper balls can’t break anything) until I had to go all the way around and shoot the criminal he was pointing at.
But overall, it’s fun, and please use more of the games´ functions :)

Awesome episode Spoony! Although, where do your officers get that unlimted supply of gernades and how come your officers aren’t affected by the flash gernade, but you are? Well, it’s just a game. Keep ‘em coming Spoony! Can you show us some of your failed attempts instead of putting them in the intro. It gets kinda boring if you just put the succesful run.

You shot one the officers accidently when you were trying to use the flash gernade. The others weren’t affected by it so you probably shot one in the back as they were going through the door.

Is it me or in this game, the suspects basically stand still until you get to them? They never seem to move around or try to leave the building?

I couldn’t help but notice that there were a bunch of Ohio flags hanging all over the place, and it’s a sad fact that here in Ohio we do have a bunch of people who think they’re from the South.

Ha, flashbangs seem to be the ultimate weapon (except when you get hit with one yourself. Luckily none of those gas cans got hit, could have been ugly.

Did anyone else notice the Freedom Force arcade machine at 5:05-5:15? That game was amazing, though I’m pretty sure it was never in an arcade machine :P

The paintball gun thing is the best for these early levels, few shots to the face and they cant shoot back, even if they dont surrender,
you can just taser them a few times in the hopes they eventually do give up

Regarding Raibown Six vs Swat case…. Swat is actually older than Raibown Six. The first Swat game was released in 95, altough SWAT 1 and SWAT 2 were strategy based games. The game became an FPS from SWAT3 onwards. Rainbown Six was released on 98

Actually, I’m not editing out the deaths. I beat most of the beginning levels the first time through. I cut out one of the deaths on the night club level because I screwed up my equipment configuration and was trying to suicide myself as quickly as possible. I think the next level is the illegal casino one or Red Library, and I die there a few times.

Hehe, good one Spoony. Might I suggest for the Drinking game, 1 shot every time Spoony kills a perp, 2 shots every time there’s an Officer down, and 3 shots every time Spoony takes a Grenade to the face?

when you mentioned the peper ball things, those are actully being used and they work, because the are filled with the pepper stuff and get in your eyes from the vapor coming up from when they hit oyu, plu your being hit almost bare skinned with a paint ball so usully they will go down. In fact right now they have ones that use INCREDIBLY bad smells to bring smoeone down, and the work too lol

Use the pepper ball gun. Shoot first, ask later. Is surprisingly good on baddies with masks and such especially on normal =)

Well, the SWAT series as a series is way older than the Rainbow SIX series, dating back to Police Quest series (1987), with the release of the first game Police Quest: SWAT (1995), three years before the first Rainbow SIX (1998).

As far as I know, Terran, the higher the difficulty level, the more points you need to pass.

I think you misread the scenario a bit. This was apparently supposed to be an organized “chop shop” operation, not just some small independent car thieves. That’s why there were so many goons and cars in there.
Somebody got caught at the garage, exposing the whole operation so they got desperate and violent. Probably some hardened career criminals involved, thus all the armed resistance.

Yeah, Rainbow Six didn’t get good until Vegas and Vegas 2 when they really fixed the combat system, controlling team mates and all that good stuff. Spoony, you don’ t have to get the first shot off to make them surrender. Arm all your guys with the Less Lethal Shotgun and open
fire as soon as you see anyone, they will drop immediately, then a shot of pepper spray in the face when they are hurting will make sure
they comply. Also, it’s unwise to send all four of your officers in at once, I’m surprised you don’t get killed more often, you should
always leave two guys behind to guard your rear and slowly move forward. Crouch more often, your aim will improve and you’ll be
harder to hit. The reason you should do most of the clearing yourself is because you AI officers will stupidly run into rooms to chase bad
guys and ignore your commands and usually end up getting themselves killed.

Well, those are my tips. You play like a cow boy, haha.

i remember there was a rainbow 6 on n64 and we couldn’t figure out how to play it. i would always rescue the hostages and kill like one guy and somehow i would beat the level even though most of them had bombs you needed to diffuse. we beat 8 levels in like 20 minutes. awful game. this is way better.

Out of all rainbow six series i like the vegas 1&2 because they are similar to this game with the excception that u dont cuff the subjects and just blow them away. Tactical shooters are one of my favorite fps type of games and allot of poeple will agree with this. can’t wait for your FFVIII review Spoony keep up the awesome job entertaining us all ;)

These are all pretty sweet walkthroughs so far Spoony and I can’t wait to see more! I even remember this level as being one of the levels available in the Swat 4 demo. I’m wondering though why you always use the lethal guns when coming into these missions instead of the beanbag shotguns. You can shoot up the suspect as much as you want with those and you’ll never get the lethal force deduction. ^_^

These vids are some of your best in my opinion, however I cant wait for another release in my all time favorite FFVIII series :) I think those are better than anything AVGN has released! Go spoony!

I was just playing the demo, I got about a 90 on hard mode, I just shot everyone who was holding a gun once and they almost always gave up after taking a bullet

It’s a bit crazy than an M4 round in the gut would make you ok to talk and everything no?

Little advice that I found helpful:
If you equip the paintball gun or beanbag shotgun, those are both non leathal weapons. You don’t actually have to shout at them to get down, you can literally shoot first and ask questions later, and even accidentally shoot innocents with those two weapons, and nothing will get deducted. When I played through swat 4 I found this to be much better for obtaining higher scores, because it becomes easier to get suspects to surrender, and you can play more frantically trying to shoot everybody instead of waiting for them to shoot you.

yeah whats with all the gas cans? You didn’t say much about the Confederate Flag

We used to play this game at our LAN parties and it was a great deal of fun. Mostly we just ran around alone and tried to kill as many suspect as possible. Didn’t really work though. D: We had to do some teamwork to get pass on the harder levels.

Heh, Can’t wait to see you take on the Mt. Threshold Research Center (last level). I’m tellin’ ya: that is one mean mother of a level! Every room is build up in a way so your team mates never manages to throw grenades in the right angle, you have to do that yourself. Everybody’s wearing body armor and gas masks, so stingers and flashbangs is the only way to go. Nobody surrenders after flashing or stinging them (think I stumbled upon two guys max, who gave up right away. The rest you have to flash, THEN tazer half to death.
Yeah, that’ll be great fun. But I figure you’ll manage it all along the way. Really enjoy these videos. Fun to see it all done in a different fashion.
Noticed you got a little more serious though. Not much to laugh at, I suppose. You’ll probably get a kick out of the Tenement Buildings. They’re packed with cultist nutters from outer-freakin-space.

Its an “UMP” caliber .45, it uses pistol bullets but is full auto (At least if your a cop).

You know, considering how often you’ve gotten Reynolds shot by Mission 5, no wonder he gives you a hard time through the rest of the game.

After clearing the top floor, try camping your red and blue teams in the rooms at 6:00 and 9:12, sweep the parking lot solo, then the garages starting by the alternate spawn point.  Really efficient and reduces casualties!

Around 8:49, two squad members simultaneously say “you’re in the way” and “you’re in my spot”. I wish Spoony wasn’t talking over that so he’d pay attention to it and snap. It was worse than usual just then… though it was rather fair, seeing as he was standing in a doorway.
