There are levels later on that will eat you alive. I got stock at a bank or something, can’t remember the name. but fucking hell, i kept getting killed, over and over and over again.

It’s impossible to complete 100 on the Elite difficulty after the 2nd or 3rd level.

Hilarious stuff, the friendly AI in this game is just about as bad as Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

They’ll tell you you’re in the way then forget about their orders all together, stand in your way so when there is a barrage of bullets pounding you you’ll have no where to go, and watch enemy troops advance into the room you’re holding in and do nothing about it when they should be watching your back like you ordered them to.

Damn you Spoony now I’m going to need to go dig out my Swat 4 disks, It doesn’t help that they are in those goddamned paper sleeves! I hated that Laura Croft looking paper cutout every time I went in that room I shot at it. That was my favorite level, I just loved the look of it with the brick and pine floors.

That’s the crappiest shotgun I’ve ever seen, I’ll never understand why developers feel the need to horribly butcher a shotgun’s capabilities. I mean I’ve never used one, but from what I hear no, they do not lose almost all effectiveness past the 4 foot mark…

And yay for crappy grenade physics. Don’t try to edge a grenade Noah, it’s going to hit the door frame and roll back back to your feet…

Also, wouldn’t it be nice if you had a bitch smack option to put those whiney squad members in line?

On some of the later levels I highly recommend that you take some door wedges with you and give at least one door wedge to each of your teammates. They allow you to control the flow of bad guys and cordon off rooms or entire floors.

When you use the “cs gas” just prest “b” near someone to punch him, so you dont need to change weapon (in case you get attacked in the meantime)

One of the many nice things about the CS Paintball gun? You can shoot the fuck out of those annoying “Your standing in my way, Sir” teammates with no repercussions to your score (along with civilians, suspects, cuffed people unable to defend themselves, etc.) I’m actually kind of surprised you don’t have your guys equipped with wands themselves, but I guess this way makes the game slightly better to make videos on. My typical tactic is pretty much sitting back and having my team do almost all the wetwork: wand the door, pick the lock (because I never blow the door unless they’re already on alert and I always use the breaching shotgun because the charges can hurt civilians if they’re too close to the door when you blow it) gas the room if they see anyone, clear it, then walk in and pick up the pieces and cuff and call. Worked well for me so far.

I loved the last line, “…a real SWAT man would’ve charged in there with a taser gun and wiffle bat and brought em all back alive”. lol Seriously, they’re heavily armed and armored; they’ve already taken shots at officers and taken hostages, but you’re still not allowed to shoot at them until they blow off your kneecaps first. WTF.

I actually picked this game up after you started this series and played through a bit. It’s a good game, but definitely infuriating at times. The friendly AI in particular. This mission gave me a little trouble on the first run too, but the one that made me wanna tear my hair out was that one jewel heist thing. I don’t know what it was called but I failed that like 10 times after coming soo close to finishing and then I finished it a few times but still failed due to killing too many suspects. Man, that’s a bummer. I finally beat it after outfitting myself and everyone else with non-lethal arms.

Haven’t played in a while, but last I remember I was in some hospital or something. I got irritated and had to break from the game a while.

By far my favorite one. The end credits were the funniest as well.

A good episode, I loved the closing line, though the entire episode was good. I could have sworn he was about to drill one of the officers in the head for saying, “You’re in my way, sir.” one too many times. Though, I have to say that the submachine gun that was being used wasn’t a .45. It was an MP5 which means it had to have been using 9mm bullets. I hate pointing small things out like that, but it would have nagged at me if I didn’t.

You point out a lot of the flaws with the AI cops, but that being said you also play like a cowboy. If you took your time clearing rooms
and used the right grenade for the right situation you probably wouldn’t be as frustrated (though the video wouldn’t
be nearly as hilarious). Stinger grenades are useful for taking down baddies who are concentrated in a small area and wont have
time to run away, CS gas is good for rooms with things like furniture that will obstruct stingers, and flashbangs are good in
combination with tazers and non-lethal weapons. You have to find the right balance for your approach. I always use the door wedge
when I’ve stopped my advance so bad guys dont sneak up on you like that one guy did.

When you say that real SWAT wouldn’t go in with CS paintball guns, you’re totally right, but then again this isn’t really SWAT. The
game makes the sandbag shot guns and CS paintballs as effective as lethal weapons so you might as well use them. Plus the
CS paint ball gun comes with lots of ammo, has little recoil and shoots fast. You should really try it next time.

Good game I think, has some of those damn issues though… The Stetchkov Syndicate is even worse, baddies pick up their guns
if you don’t cuff them fast enough. As for the AI cops not clearing rooms properly you should split them up into two teams so they
don’t get all bunched up and delegate more, they are just drones after all.

oh, damn…Daryl F. Gates presents S.W.A.T. 1….wow, that brings back memories. I’ve still got that game. Had it for 12 years and only one 1 runthrough have I EVER qualified to be a sniper. Damn things harder to complete than Deadly Towers…not quite as annoying though.

Nice job on the new videos Spoony ! i really enjoy these swat playthroughs, they got me playing that great game again. Quick tip : i noticed you never lean around corners before going in a room/corridor etc (use q or e depending on direction), it’s really usefull, but sometimes you get a face full of lead if the bad guy is really close to the corner you’re peaking around.

SWAT 4: Where shotguns are useless.

Yes, yes, yes! You finally did my favorite level! Except, of course, if you get shot in the legs. Then it’s the worse level ever.

Like I’ve commented before, ALWAYS beanbag shotgun. No penalties for shooting and/or harassing with it (even if you point it directly at their faces and shove beanbags down their piehole at mach 2). The only problem is the shotgun’s hit detection; it’s so wide that any close wall/door-frame that hinders you ever so slightly will not make it pass through. Thanks for the sniper heads-up, I’ll be sure to keep that in mind.

That ‘lara croft’ cutout is the main character from Tribes : Vengeance or whatever.

I didn’t read all the comments so I don’t know if someone already has pointed out these.

- Take the non-lethal shotgun to every mission. With it you can shoot first and yell later. And if they don’t comply, atl least they will be shocked for few secs, which will give you time to tase ‘em or have one of you team mates to shoot ‘em with pepper balls etc. Will work even when they are wearing body armor. This way you don’t have to worry about “rules of engament”.

- You can leave all the suspects waiting while you clear the map. If they have surrendered, they won’t pick up their weapons even if they’re lying right next to them. In one mission, I had like almost ten guys in one room, their guns in front of them. I just left ‘em there and after I had searched the whole building, I went back there to restrain them.

Still good videos. The shotgun used on run #1 reminds me of the shotgun I used in ARMY OF TWO where I couldn’t kill a one damn guy at point blank range which was retarded as hell. The guy in the doorway got shot twice not four times but yeah twice was one to many even from a shotgun. Also I belive the kakalov or whatever I belive is a russian machinegun if memory serves me right. I remember seeing the gun in lots of other games like this like METAL GEAR SOLID or something.

not entirely true, in the subway mission i had a guy surrender and put down his kalashnikov, and when i turned my back he shot me with a handgun, luckly the rest of the team was near and they wasted him

Well, I wouldn’t recommend the shotgun to be used like that. In real life the shotgun in a small space like that would be perfect, but since this is a game, they made shotguns into up close and personal pieces of shit.

The game that got shotguns right (and very little else in the way of gameplay, unfortunately) was the original Resident Evil. You fire a shotgun, it’s a one-hit kill for almost any enemy in its path for like 15 feet.

Honestly, I recommended the SSF (Sheriff’s Special Forces) mod, at least worth it for private play. I don’t know where you’d be able to download it these days, but it definitely makes the game much better. Guns are properly accurate and powerful, as well as removing unauthorized uses of force.

Best one yet! Though you were a little too angry, I think. ;)

Am I the only one who can’t see the whole video? It only plays up to the SWAT 4 briefing screen and then I get a “more” or “replay” option. No matter how long and let it loads. Same problem with both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

this is what i do to relive stress when they tell me im in thier way and dropping grenades at thier feet and not coming when i say so

i go to a level and equip them all with the paintball gun
then i take my assault rifle and gun down my men

after the 4th shot all 4 of my guys turn thier guns on me and fire repeatedly in my chest
this would normally kill me
except they are shooting the paintball of pepper spray at me

Um…I’m sure this has already been said, but the reason your shotgun did less than bunny farts was because you were using slug rounds, instead of buck.

Spoony you don’t always have to have your squad follow you. You can split up your squad and you order them to clear specific rooms. It’s a much better strategy than just going in with all your guys and it takes less time.

funnily enough, the mission i’m stuck on. but i’ve been playing through with an exclusively non-lethal gun setup (Pepper guns and tazers) and found that a non-lethal approach is serving me well overall. no accidental kills and as a result, 95′s and 100′s.

That was the funniest one yet. Good job!

That sounds a hell of a lot like Counter-Strike. I’m inching forward, I see enemies, I try to walk back, I’m blocked by a human-controlled team mate, and I get AK-raped. Humans also do that not-shooting thing because “I was waiting for a good shot”.

Man, I had so much trouble with this level. It wasn’t hard, just annoying. If the terrorists didn’t kill a hostage, me or a teammate did with stray bullets. Or the nicest sniper headshot I’ve ever gotten in a game on a running foe; or rather, a running hostage. Fuck.

You actually should use the paintball gun or bean-bag shotgun since you can fire first and restrain later. Getting shot usually makes most of the perps in the game surrender.

Spoony, you should have your guys stack up to a door but open it yourself (unless the wand tells you that there is someone behind it) and throw the CS grenade yourself. This way, the gas goes to the middle of the room instead of near the door where most of it is wasted. Even more pertinent with the flashbangs.

If only this DID happen with Duke Nukem Forever and they started from scratch. Maybe it would add 3 extra years (assuming they learned from their mistakes), but it could at least have felt somewhat modern.

“Sandbag shotgun” Oh Spoony, you are underestimating the beanbag shotgun. Beanbag shotgun has .09 (or something like that) lead balls in the bag. You can play the entire game with a Nonlethal shotgun and a lethal pistol.
