The Spoony Experiment is going off the air indefinitely.
Dreamhost really jacked up the site and I don’t know if Scarlett can fix it. She’s brilliant but there might not be much she can do when some clown takes a fire axe to her templates and HTML.
So, fair warning. This ship is sinking. Scarlett will probably be taking the site offline as soon as tonight, and I don’t know when it’ll be back. If there are any forum posts you want to save, back them up yourself. I have no idea how this is going to turn out.
Edit: I know many of you are frustrated with what seems like bait-and-switching. There’s a lot going on in my life that you don’t know about, and because it all came up so suddenly, I decided to drop everything– Ripper, Terror TRAX, SWAT– and finish a special review. Then all of this crap with Dreamhost came up, and now I have to scramble to fix this particular disaster. This isn’t some stunt, and it’s not another example of classic procrastinating Spoony. This is a legitimate shitstorm, and I’m doing my best to weather it. My site is falling apart, and I’m not sure if I can fix it.
Even if I do move to a new server, it’ll probably end up being a $320/month dedicated server, and I seriously can’t afford it at this juncture. This site just does not produce that kind of revenue.

So, as much as I’m sure you don’t want to hear worst case scenarios at a time like this, will you at least be continuing to post reviews on TGWTG or will it no longer be worth it in that event? I do enjoy listening and it’d be a shame to see you go. You’re extremely creative, entertaining, and can support your opinions whether or not the majority agree with you. It’d be a shame to see that go.

It’s not like this will stay on the server long, but wtf.. this is no good. Indefinitely? What happened Mr Antwiler, to turn the tables so drastically, from “The future is coming, stick with me” to “Good bye forever everyone”.
That just seems.. wrong.
I’m aware how much you put into your work, and you don’t ask for anything but an audience in return, but that seems a little wrong, lol. Was it the Google Ads fiasco? If Google Ads hadn’t pulled out on you, would you still be sitting pretty? Your stuff is good enough for independent contracting.
Oh well, this sucks.. I hope you can figure it out, you were one of my favorite producers..

Wow, I can’t even remember how I found this site but it was you dude who put me onto TGWTG’s!!! And YEAH! dude a Vlog or something on youtube whenever you can or want to just to keep the fans in the loop would be a great idea! I found your site about 3 weeks ago and I’ve watched every video of yours including phantasmagoria while I’ve been doing an internship in London. The first video I watched was Dragonstrike on youtube which was hilarious. “I see this turning into a episode of scoobydo real fast”. Ya, you know what I’m talking about.
Ok so I’m on a completely different side of the planet working for one of the largest accounting firms in the world but I still make time to watch your videos! I mean I have friends that I go out to the pub with but I still make time to watch your video including PHANTASMAGORIA! The longest video you’ve made. In addition I’ve loved your Swat videos; you are hilarious! WTF are you thinking by shutting down the site! I’m giving you every reason from someone who isn’t even in the country at the moment who is surrounded by British poontang (and sometimes French if I have the cash for the Eurostar)!
I would probably run the server for you. Linux, Quad-Core, T3 internet, firewall, and since most of your videos are on Blip.tv it would tax my machine that much. Hey, I run my company’s pest control server on a Duron 800 MHz with Linux, and we get about 40,000 hits a day, I’d imagine that my Quad-Core with T3 wouldn’t do too bad.
If not, Alas poor Spoony, we knew him well :’-(

Well that really fucking sucks…I hope the site can be salvaged, I’d really miss it if it went under for good.
I was also just thinking, even as a temporary measure http://www.vox.com has been pretty good for me, not that I really get any hits as I have no popularity lol.
That said, It DOES let you host practically unlimited photos, videos, and even music (For others to hear not to download) for FREE. It’s not really overpopulated with ads either, and the interface is one of the better ones I’ve used. Anyway just a thought for the time being anyway.

Spoony, I love your videos and I love what you do here. Your a damned hero to me and your videos are amazing. Someone on the page said that we would read your updates if they were posted on cardboard, and you bet your ass we would.
Money is tight, I know how that feels man. Just try to keep the dream alive…experiments tend to end though. So maybe come back with the spoony complex or something. Your a fucking genious and deserve ten times the salary of TV producers.
I only came to Spoony in the last few months, to see the site disappear now is heartbreaking. Noah whatever you feel needs to be done to sort your life and situation, you do it, but it has to be said a lot of people will miss your content. I know I speak for everyone when I say we’re behind you Spoony and I’ll wait as long as it takes to get things sorted.

if the site dose sink, which from the sounds of it it is a real posability. will videos still get posted? correct me if im wrong, but the video portion of the site is just linked videos from somewhere else right?
would you start up a temp blog until something like another real site was a actual option, like something on one of those many blog things, at least to give updates and links to new videos.

I’m just asking around, throwing in suggestions from those who know this web server deal a lot more than I do. Do you know anything about VPS, Virtual Private Servers? http://www.linode.com was the site recommended to me with that. I’m totally ignorant, so I don’t know what’s best, what numbers you’re looking at, or even the different between a Unix box or Windows box; a Unix box was recommended too… I guess you’ve got experts too, but if you want, I can get you in contact with the people I’ve talked to, and see if they can help, and they’re also very willing to help out!
I know you are just way too big for a site but how about going into a smaller, easier and cheaper way to show your stuff, like a blog or staying with TGWTG… it works for other people who also work for TGWTG so… it could work for you too

TheSpoonyExperiment is sadly almost the ONLY thing I look forward to all week. Every day I can’t wait to get home from work to check for a new vid. I think it’s time to take action. What I do now, I do not for the sake of the interwebs, or even myself. I do it in the remembrance of the glorious SPOONY ONE.
How the heck can hosting cost 320$/month when all the heavy multimedia material can be hosted by other sites (flickr, blip.tv) ????

But seriously does it really cost that much to host? I don’t pretend to know how much stuff like that costs in the US but I Holland you can basically get a domain for maybe 10 bucks a month. And what if you get your own server and run it from your home or Scarlett’s home? A decent broadband connection can’t cost that much? Here in Holland you can get 60 Mbit fiber optic line for like 40 bucks a month.
Maybe host the site in a different (cheaper) country?
Anyway I’m just throwing ideas out there. I don’t know what’s exactly is going on in your life now but you always seemed to love doing the site so I guess any ideas are welcome.
I, too, have just discovered your site (and hilarity) only a couple of months ago, and it’s disheartening to hear that such a, to use an echo here, “perfect shit-storm” has hit all at once. I hope this hasn’t resulted in the loss of much of your material, because honestly? I think it’s all good stuff.
Worse comes to worse? Seriously, I say get out the money can and ask for donations. Seeing how the community here has reacted, I’d wager that you’d get at least SOME decent folk sending something in to help ease the pain of relocation, repair-work, and whatever else.
