Final Fantasy VIII Review: The Finale

Next thing. (not sure if you really care for my explanations but doing it anyways) The ragnarok was only RECENTLY abandoned if you paid attention to notes. How much oxygen do they try passing off on the star trek spaceships? ( I wouldn’t know, I don’t watch that shit, but I’m going to assume they have enough to last many people many weeks at least.) Anyways, then if you assume the fact that these space creatures do not require oxygen then they wouldn’t take up any of it and if it’s not being turned into carbon dioxide it’s STILL oxygen. Everyone evacuated not too long before they found it after their ship was invaded. That’s pretty much it. sure some of it is stupid luck and plot fillers but it’s not without any merit to carry the storyline further.

Why would they make a prequel ten years after the game? Sounds like someone’s just making crap up, but who knows Sqare Enix keeps making more final fantasy games away from the regular number series who can say whether or not they’ll give something like that a shot. Sadly though this seems to be leaving Kingdom Hearts 3 in the dark.
Anyway I still love to watch this video series I don’t care if this game sucks or not cause I’m sure as hell not going to go to the effort of finding a ps1 and this game to find out.

Cody: That ‘idea’ doesn’t even follow anything that goes along with FFVIII’s lore. Therefore it is nothing but a silly gamer rumor which I’m not even sure that someone other than you made up. I enjoyed FFVIII but hated FF IX. A lot of other people thought the opposite. Just cause two different things appeal to two different people

Thanks for the review, Spoony. It was great and not a waste of my time. Before, I didn’t mind Final Fantasy VIII. I did play it, but never finished it. Because the system pissed me off and I got stuck in some part that I couldn’t remember. But I’m glad I didn’t finish it. This review made COMPLETE sense to me. Final Fantasy VIII is the worst Final Fantasy in history. It was a waste of my fucking time. I’m glad my friend showed this to me. It gave me more reason NOT to finish this retarded game. And thanks to this review, I officially hate Final Fantasy VIII. I never looked at it before like this. And like I said before, it make complete sense. I loved your t-shirt, by the way. It makes me want to get one made for myself now. Hope to see a review on Final Fantasy X-2. If you do make it, I’ll watch it. I’d like to see your opinion on the game. Because it was kinda stupid.

While I too agree that the gunblade is retarded, I’d like to point out that it’s not in actuality an original concept.

In originality it’s 3 weapons in one, a gun, a knife and knuckle glove.
How this weapon actually works… I’m not honestly sure, but after watching your FF8 review all the way trough, and hearing you talk about the gunblade, I remembered reading about a similar weapon back when I was a child, I couldn’t remember the name of the weapon though and it took me a while to dig trough all my books, but I finally found it today, and felt like commenting about it xD

Actually there’s other versions of the ‘gunblade’ that are more like what squall’s design were. I don’t remember their name but they were just that. A revolver with a blade. The reason it was made that way was a similarity in which spoony made fun of. IF you got into a parry fight with someone, someone with it could move it just enough to shoot them at an opening rather than relying on just the blade which couldn’t connect someone else who was just as skilled in melee. It was a rather useless method because during the time this was created, just using guns by itself was more effective.

Actually, Cody. I understood the game completely. I’m fairly lenient in my views of saying either I didn’t like it or it sucked.
FFXII’s faults.
1- characters. None of the characters were very likeable (somewhat in aesthetics maybe) and weren’t well developed. Only Larsa really had any shred of human emotion asides being a complete bot of a character. The sad thing is he’s not even a playable character. It was also apparent that Penelo and Vaahn were characters created in the last month cause they had no reason or place in the storyline AT ALL. (even the creators admit to this. The game originally only had 4 characters)
2- story. The story is fairly bland. It basically stole FF: tactic’s storyline of war and conquer strategy except it added the going to find the great sword thingy that only Ashe can get blah blah, storyline with plot holes and creatures that are all powerful that are trying to use you (wtf did this mythology just shoot out the creator’s ass last second like FF IX’s Necron?) and then that’s the reason any other character is as evil or as powerful as they’re made is from these…things that are apparently evil to you anyways yet you don’t kill them or do anything, you just go “pshh, bitch whatever! I’m gonna do mae own tang!” and it had the worst progression scenes. When Vaahn kept spamming “I am sir Basch!” was stupid and pointless. I also laughed at its attempt at evoking sympathy in the holy temple. “Help! My mom was pushed!” “Oh no, my mom died!” …seriously because she was pushed… wtf. The overall mythology of the game was thrown together. It was sort of like every religion was right in there own sense (hear that christians and muslims? you’re BOTH right!) The last problem was that the game was anticlimactic and the dialogue failed. When Reddas sacrifices himself, I felt like vaahn was being sarcastic “No! don’t go!” but the tone made it seem like he was thinking. “Yeah, save us, we don’t like you!”. When the end of the game came I thought I was in another cutscene. The final boss was a joke and the build up sucked.
3. gameplay- it’s only likeable factor was the no random battles idea. If it actually had better battles and character individuality it’d make it a bit more enjoyable. There was absolutely no difference in any character whatsoever so it sort of killed the usual RPG of saying ‘which is the overpowered/best character’ cause they’re all as equally useless. This game also killed the idea of limit breaks and summons. Not one Summons stick to tradition and even then they’re worthless to use. Loss of mp= fail. Limit breaks had the same flaw. (oh sorry, awakening) You lose all your mana. Sure, you COULD do the most damage with a properly chained limit break but if you didn’t kill the enemy with it, you had to hope you had enough time to use all those ethers to be able to heal enough for a few of the tougher fights. Still the lack of individuality in limit breaks hurt the game.
4. Sidequests. Sidequests were for the most part stupid. Some of them were even restricted by choices you made at the very beginning of the game! Seriously, you open the first chest available and no chance at the zodiac spear. FFIX had the same problem where if you didn’t do everything you needed before the lifa tree incident you lost the chance to get a lot of items. but from the BEGINNING of the game? Whoever thought that would be a good idea in an rpg needs to be taken out of video game creation forever :/

There’s christians who accept parts of the christian faith such as doing things that’s right and praying to god and you’ll get to heaven. amongst those people there are those that don’t care and also understand it’s faith and not fact and don’t push it onto others. Then you have the other christians who think that just because they’re christian they’re always right, the book is the solid evidence to everything (despite it being written by man) and there is no contradictions (even though there’s quite a few). They also believe the part that they have to convert or not associate with other non-christians.

It’s also against ‘Christianity’ to marry someone of a different faith so what are you doing with an Atheist girlfriend? Or are you just the one that only is christian for the ’social power’ it gives and dismisses all that you find not fun to YOU?

Before you start bringing up religion I’d start researching more about it.

I’ve completely loved this series you’ve been doing on FF8. I must be honest I was a huge fan of the game when I was younger. I guess the love story really sold it to me then.. Ha. You truly made me realise that the plot does indeed suck though, and while I am glad that I played and completed it, I’m guess I can appreciate better games now more. :)

Honestly I liked the game, not just because it was FF, not for any hype (because I sure as hell don’t pay attention to that), and not for anything memorable. I can’t even remember much of it from when I first played it all those years ago, but I know I liked it. This is my humble opinion, just as everyone is entitled to. I will admit not liking the magic system, and a few of the plot points, but I had a good time.

Spoony I think you made a huge mountain out of a molehill just for entertainment purposes, then again it was entertaining. It’s a good game, but I’m moved on since then, and I advise the same for everyone else. Unless of course.. once in awhile, you might like a little nostalgia.

Man did this game suck, I pity spoony for playing it. Even when it came out I had no desire to play it. My two roommates were both playing and my best friends lil brother. I basically saw the entire game without having actually played it myself. I didnt need to play it myself to see how much it sucked. it’s an rpg not a fighting game where the gameplay is the defining trait.

Rpgs are all the story first. This games story was weak and just did crap for sake of trying be as wacked out as possible. Basically like someone took 4 different stories and crammed them all into a meat grinder and the sausage that came out of fail was final fantasy 8. (final fantasy 7 was 3 stories shoved thru a meat grinder.)

It’s characters are just a bunch of pretty people with no real defining traits as the junction system removed any individuality. The drawing system basically bogs the game down, and the magic system is totally short bus. Whats point of spells you never cast? You just horde them for the most part. Which the whole lets call the spells fire, fira, firaga system just sounds stupid. While fire , fire 2, and fire 3 is rather uinnspired it atleast made sense why was called that.

Most people I knew played thru it solely cause they spent too much money when it was new not to. FF 8 deserves every bit of the hate it gets. If it wasnt as pretty to look at as it was, I doubt nearly as many people would have touched it 7 attracted people who were drawn in by the graphics, flash over substance. 7 is a highly overrated game, but was mildly entertaining. 8 is just manure in a pretty package with a ton of hype. I’ve take more pleasure mocking it than Id ever taken from playing thru it.

Lastly good job Spoony for setting the record straight, I dont care what any one says about you. I might not agree with everything you think, but this I 100% agree was a lame duck. Also…gun blades are retarded, impractical, and awkward…rather symbolic of the game itself heh.
