Yeah I could never finish this game either… though to be fair that was from a fucked up game disc that always froze on the pre-rendered scene just before Sorceress Edea’s big speech where people cheer for her evilness. So I could never get beyond Disc 1 because I could not find another copy of this fucking game anywhere!

Though I have now seen a playthrough of the entire game and actually… to quote JewWario: I like it. Maybe playing it is a bit more tedious but from just watching it I really liked it. Sure it’s stupid but name me a Final Fantasy game that isn’t inherently ridiculous.

I’m sorry, are you replying to the wrong person? I’ve never played FFXIII, I haven’t even mentioned it. I’ve only mentioned II, VIII and X.

Also, it’s kind of rude to reply to a comment made a month ago. Just saying.

The problem with FFXIII is that anything about this game sucks. The characters are just fags, the story is uninteresting and the combat system doesn´t even exist. It´s not challenging because all you have to do is pressing one button at the right time, so that the characters can change their jobs or what it is called in the US-Version (I´m from Germany so I´m only familiar with the german terms). Square Enix is cheating on their fans by pretending that they made a complex game with a deep story-line and complex battle-system. But that is not what FFXIII is like. It´s just an awesome looking interactive movie with no freedom. You are constantly guided through the game. Straight forward passages and nothing to explore.

Many fans say that you have to play to the 12th chapter and than the game becomes really good, but why on earth would I do this, when the first 50 hours of this crap are so borring and uninteresting that I want to kill myself? It´s just bullshit. And now they are doing FFXIII-2 to do things better. And that´s the stupidest thing I have ever heard. A sequel to a game that the most fans hate from the buttom of their hearts should set the things with the fans right again? Sorry but Square Enix is just a bunch of stoned psychos with no sense of what a game should be made of. They should shut down their fucking studio and start to make animated movies because that is the only thing they are really good in.

He does refer to IX. He hated the art style and was immediately turned off by it even when he tried to play it for more than an hour. He also talked about it at some Q&A when a fan asked about it.

I know there’s no way in hell anyone’s going to read (let alone respond to) this but for what it’s worth:

You first see Raine in a Laguna flashback. She’s the adoptive mother of Ellone. Yeah, it really sucks that it’s not stated more clearly that she and Laguna are Squall’s parents. And the whole “we were all raised together by the friggin sorceress but we don’t remember any of it” plotline was pretty damn stupid.

Anyhoo, for all the flak Spoony gave to FFVII, X X-2 and XIII he never did talk much about IX or XII. In fact I don’t think he’s ever mentionned IX at all. Does he hate it so much that the mere mention of it would send him into an uncontrollable rage?

I like the fact that they keep changing the game mechanics from game to game. It keeps things fresh. Well somewhat fresh. Toilet pizza fresh?

I actually really, really like FFVIII, and I don’t think the system is complicated. It’s just that it’s completely different from the previous ones, and people just don’t like it when gameplay changes so radically from one game to the other (same happened for FFII). But when you consider the game for what it is, and not as a “sequel” to another one, it’s very good.

The characters are annoying, though. All of them. Which I recognize it’s a turnoff. And while I’m not sure that it’s true things started going downhill with FFVIII, I agree with you that things got really bad with FFX. I mean, a sports game you’re forced to play? I’m playing a goddamn RPG, that should clue you into the fact that I have no interest in sports!

This review was so funny, it actually made me want to play FF8. I got it recently, and started on it now. I hate the junctioning system, but I don’t think Squall is all that annoying. He just screams stereotypical “loner” teenager. Then again, I’ve only played about three hours.

I think the point he was trying to make in the teen ager problem was that they have no need being teen agers. If the age has no impact on plot or character development, it could very well just be fan service. But I amhave not played IV, so I don’t know the plot, but that is a complaint that I have with some of the gratuitous teen agers in japanese mediums.
