The Cinema Snob – Shriek of the Mutilated

I’d like to introduce a very special guest to the Spoony Experiment: a guy who’s too extreme for YouTube, with a library of movies so bizarre the word “obscure” just doesn’t seem to cover it.

So, without further ado…

THE CINEMA SNOB!

If the Spoony says it’s good, it must be =P.

As for your friend, I’d recommend checking into hostmonster. Inexpensive rates, and they have most of the necessary software bundled up and easy to install. I’m just working out some camera issues, graphics issues on my site. And oh yea… I need to work on some actual content… dunno how that’s gonna work out =P.

I’ve actually been meaning to check out some of his work recently, so I’m glad I’ll have the chance to do so at the Spoony Experiment, an excellent site I already regularly visit.

Also, the more people that quit using YouTube the better. The only things they ever had going for them were ease of use, and a wide variety of content. Now you can find several sites that not only are as easy, but include many more features, not to mention how YouTube is shifting their focus towards more “professional” content.

Yeah I wanted to say thank you Spoony for helping The Cinema Snob from yesterday because I read on his Blog on Myspace that you helped him in some way or another with his new site. I’ve been following him from the time you posted the video blog with Ed Glaser about the Turkish Yambo and loved every review the Snob made because he seems so tortured and likes to rip apart this exploitation movies. I salute you Spoony and the Snob to keep doing the great work that you tow are doing.

Sorry about your account, pal. Youtube is becoming less and less relevant by the minute and it’s only a matter of time before another video site takes it’s place like Myspace did to Friendster.

As for the video, well to be quite honest it didn’t come off as funny or angry or critical, instead it just came off as pompous and self-serving, but then again maybe that was your intention.

Not trashing you, just making an honest observation.

Awesome Spoony! Even more fun content on here. I think that was not only really nice of you to host some of his stuff, but also really smart, you will get even more viewers. I am about to watch his stuff now. I am a fan of really bad movies, so this will be great!

Well, there are cases where the source material isn’t funny but the reviewer manages to bring me to tears… but not this time. Apart from the scene with the toaster, that is, but even this would’ve worked better without any kind of commentary.

And yeah, these movies might be worse but they’re not as funny. When I have to choose between good entertainment and a race “who gets to review the worst movie”… there’s no choice at all ;) Just another guy reviewing stuff and he’s not very good at that, sorry man

I have to agree with m_s0. Apart from toaster scene I found this not so funny. Mere bad (=funny) source material is not enough.

This Snob guy’s got a great voice. He sounds very much like one of those 70′s movie trailer voice over dudes. Which is not a bad thing at all. Suits fine for the type of reviews he does. Will definetly check out more of his work when posted on this site. Thanks for the introduction Spoony.

Thanks for the introduction. First I found the AVGN, there I learned about the Nostalgia Critic where I was introduced to the Spoony experiment. So the journey goes on to yet another reviewer. Can’t wait to see more of his work. I love those cheap 70s exploitation-flicks and when he specializes on reviewing them that’s still in a way new and innovative.

But I still have to see more of it until I really can say if he’s up there with Spoony, the NC and the AVGN for me. This video was not the funniest I’ve ever seen but definitely a good start.

The Cinema Snob is the Leonard Maltin of grindhouse movies…I sat through a boatload of his reviews on Screw’dTube and it’s neat that he can rip apart a stinker flick in five minuters or less (unlike the Agony Booth, which has spent up to 18 pages recapping and ripping to shreds junk like “Xanadu” and “5000 Miles to Graceland.”) He will be a good addition to the Spoony Experiment.

It’s really great of you to host this guy, Spoony. Looking forward to more of his stuff and hope you update us when he gets his own webspace – this review was hysterical.

Ive seen this movie a few times and was deeply confused…

  • Professor Prell

It turns out that Professor Prell and Dr. Werner are cannibals, using the Yeti scam as a way to lure victims, and that the Yeti is actually Dr. Werner in disguise.

Btw, Spoony, I know you get alót of requests from people to review stuff, so you probably won´t, but I´d like to ask you if you could review the G.I. Joe movie that came out recently. I´d like to hear what you think about it.

I wish Spoony had been the one to review this. He would’ve known how to milk the toaster scene Yor-style, instead of quickly glossing over it.

Hey spoony, you should do some modern game reviews, I think you are pretty damn hilarious and would love to see more game reviews. Also, I love this guy, although he could use a better microphone.

  • Mind Layer

The important thing to keep in mind when watching the Cinema Snob is that he is playing a character. Its premise: what if some pretentious art film lover who normally watches Godard, Kurosawa, Fellini, Bergman, etc, decided to cast his discriminating eye upon B-movie trash cinema? (In actuality the guy loves B-movies.) You’re not going to get an abundance of NC or Spoony-esque jokes since it would not really fit in with the character’s concept. However this is not to say that he doesn’t say some really funny shit. You have to watch a few videos to get a feel for the guy’s style but trust me, once you get what he’s doing, it’s really entertaining. The hate he shows for these worst of the bad movies is genuine I think, but it is greatly exaggerated via the “Snob”.

Like several others I started checking out Snob’s videos after Spoony mentioned him during his interview with Ed Glaser, and as someone who has spent most of their childhood being subjected to horrible direct-to-video trash, found him to be very amusing. I was actually gonna check in on him today but now I guess I won’t be checking in on him till he gets him a site set up. Fucking Youtube.

First time I’ve seen the show. The yeti looks like Barf from Spaceballs, just spray painted white, which enforces his point of view that this movie should have gone for comedy instead of horror.

I liked it. If he does get a site be sure to post the web name so we can check it out.

I watched a couple of his videos, and honestly, I wasn’t impressed. Even the movie he hated with a fury wasn’t that good. So far, all of his videos are smut, porn, terror, or some varying combination of those. Granted I plan on watching the rest, but for now, he doesn’t really seem entertaining to me.

  • http://mountainscrapbook.blogspot.com/ Mountain King

This guy is quite good, my problem is with the Big films NC reviews they are trying to be the best films they can. Spoony’s reviews are of films and games that have all of the ambition but none of the skill. These films are great targets and are full of unintentional humour. They invite well thought out parodies and observations.
Unfortunately European B-movies and zero budget snuff films are too easy. We never were going to look at them and have no intention to hunt them down after watching the show. In the end it’s like trying to lampoon Mystery Science Theatre, you weren’t supposed to be taking it seriously in the first place. Taking the mick out of them is sort of redundant.
All power to the man, I’ve tried to make a review myself but it fell flat on it’s face so I have nothing but respect for the guy and wish him the best of luck.

I’ve seen this movie, The Legend of Boggy Creek, AND Boggy Creek 2. They’re all terrible. The Legend of Boggy Creek is actually a documentary although it barely qualifies as one. Boggy Creek 2 is just like Shriek of the Mutilated only worse.

It was…okay, I guess, definately not one of the best reviews I’ve seen. It seemed to gloss over a lot of funny parts like he was rushing through it (not short enough to have quick impact but not long enough to create a mood of general hilarity), and his voice isn’t great, when you compare it to voices like Spoony’s or the NC’s. The only real expression he can put across is snobbishness and thats not really that exaggerated to be funny. Plus the whole thing with ‘yeti’ being a funny word…sucked. It just wan’t very funny tbh…maybe this was a bad example. I’ll try and check out a few more.

Judging by this particular movie, he’s ok. Hopefully his movies get better, though. The way he tips off the twist ending was hilarious, and I love how the throat-cut victim drags a toaster ALL the way to the bathroom, PLUGS it in, and manages to toss it into the tub, just to even the score. That takes dedication.

You know, I’ve wondered something for a while after first listening to the Cinema Slob when Spoony posted this up yesterday…

Why do movies insist on always using the name ‘Yeti’, when the Americas have a perfectly reasonable version of the same beast, the cannibalistic Wendigo.

No, seriously! The Yeti is supposed to be a peaceful creature, but the Wendigo is a larger, more horrible creature. So why Yeti?

Anyway, I think I’ll guess what the twist is (since I’ve never seen The Village). 1) Laughing Crow is the yeti or is somehow related to the yeti, 2) the yeti actually is some stupid person in a bunny suit and the scoobie doo brigade eventually unmask him to see who he really is or 3) the yeti just wanted love (which is why he’s carrying the woman around at the end of the vid, sorta like King Kong).

    *Spoilers*
    Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shriek_of_the_Mutilated

The professor ties Lynn’s body to a tree. The Yeti appears and Keith chases it into the woods. He tracks it by the sound of its heartbeat, but makes the discovery that the sound is actually coming from a speaker attached to a tree. Someone knocks him out with a branch.

Back at the house, Laughing Crow is shown listening to a tape of the Yeti’s heartbeat. It turns out that Professor Prell and Dr. Werner are cannibals, using the Yeti scam as a way to lure victims, and that the Yeti is actually Dr. Werner in disguise. Keith tries to escape in the van, and Karen flees through the house and ends up trapped in a bathroom. She opens a cabinet to find Laughing Crow holding a knife, and dies of fear. Prell and Werner reveal they need a body without wounds for a satanic ritual.

Keith returns with a local policeman, only to find out that he too is a cannibal. The three men explain that the “gin sung” Keith has eaten is actually human flesh, and they invite him to join their cannibalistic society. They bring in Karen’s body, and Laughing Crow, brandishing an electric carving knife, speaks for the first time, saying “Mr. Henshaw — white meat or dark?” The film ends.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU for hosting Cinema Snob! What this guy does is an absolute service to movie buffs and casual fans alike, and you hosting his videos is downright heroic (well, heroic might be a bit of an exaggeration, but but the point is that I appreciate this tremendously). I mean, really, this is just mind-blowing awesome.

Thank you, Spoony. From the deepest most sincere depths of my heart, thank you.

    He doesn’t have you’re charisma. I like you’re work 100x better.
Not bad, but I wouldn’t watch to much of him.

I definitley believe that humans are easily corrupted and that we basically have no limits to our potential cruelty, but I don’t think that the cruelty towards the aliens in the film (which I haven’t seen, but have read about) would happen. This is not because humans would be morally opposed to it, but afraid of provoking the aliens. If you’re oppressing other people, you generally know what to expect in the event of an uprising. Not so with aliens. What if they suddenly develope an immunity to our weapons? What if the rest of the species find out about it and wage war with us? These fears, if not keeping us benevolent to the creatures, would at least cause us to set up standards of civility higher than forcing them into slums. However, it still looks interesting to me and I try to see it soon.

Cinema Snob goes more deeper into the damned zones of movie making, where no one has gone.
    Love his work.
I cant even imagine how much he has to go to see the Psychiatrist,
cause of those horrible movies hes watched.

Amazingly bad equals to series you may not have even heard of…

Does this mean that Cinema Snob should review Bloodwings: Pumpkinhead’s Revenge? It may be a sequel because it contains the word “revenge” like, “Revenge of the Sith”.

I will add “Yeti” to my personal library of funny words, along with “swarthy”, “moist”, and “shirtless”.

Wow.. why are those words awkwardly sexual?
