That boy’s one mean motherfucker!
Is this what nearly 24 hours of editing does to your brain? LOL WTF is this?
As in this flick is a Running Man knockoff or just a tribute to bloody-minded violence?
“Only in a re-run” lol.
i c wut u did thar
Hehee, that was awesome.
I totally expected that.
the sad thing is the running man was a better film. but hey american film is losing any hope of finding a origanal idea.
I get it…but not all that funny.
funny and SO on the mark…
And thanks for appeasing the Weird Al fan-girl in me….I’m crazy for that man ;)
What the heck was that? lol (Weird Al rules)
So let’s get this straight:-
You’re saying Gamer is a plot rehash of Running man.
Okay full marks for obscurity and ten out of ten on the What-the-Hell-was-that scale.
Do people really not know what running man is? Its not that obscure.
I thot it was funny. Didnt make me laugh out loud in my chair, but it did get me to chuckle and it did sum up the film in a nutshell
I still remember seeing the trailer and thinking..”That looks absolutely terrible!” Great comparison though..one of the great VHS from my youth though..”Hey You!!! Christmas Tree!!!!”
I know “Running man” but WTF is “GAMER”!?
I guess the only people who get this are the ones who know of both the Running Man and the new movie Gamer. Having no clue about either one makes one miss the joke. That may be why this is so great.
haha we should totally watch running man and riff it, ooooh yea!
I saw only the trailer for Gamer and KNEW that its a ripoff of Running Man.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who immediately thought “oh it’s The Running Man” when the trailers hit
So… any action movie predicting a world where humans are controlled by technology and used in reality tv shows or in this case a video game is a rip off of “Running Man”? Really? You sure about that? I havent seen “Gamer” yet, I want to, but being that “Gamer” is about a video game mind controlling “convicts” and “Running Man” is about a capitalist society falsely predicating to convicts that if they win they will be free but in reality they are expected to die for the amusement of the audience and the gains of a corporation… um ya based on what I’ve heard they have similar concepts that makes “Gamer” borderline rip off “Running Man”. You win! I still want to see it =P
NOW JUST PLAIN ZERO
Only in a Re-Run! XD
“He had to split.”
I sort of thought of it as more like “Death Race” but with Counterstrike.
Lol… old arnie is one hell of a guy!
Btw, what is the song in the end? i notice its a remake from Marilyn Masnon song… But what is the group that made this remake?
Reading the plot, it reminds me more of the story of unreal tournament, but the comparison between gamer and running man is also totally justified.
Yea running man was the first thing I thought of when I saw the ads for Gamer.
“hey dude, you like remember that running man movie, we should like totally remake it”
“but people are not that in to game shows anymore”
“hmmm, I know we could make it like a video game, like have some kid controlling the guy with like SCIENCE”
“Brilliant!, we’ll make millions!”
This is Running Man in 5 seconds, not Gamer!
You guys don’t get it.
He’s not saying it’s a rip off of the running man.
A re-run is when they show a movie on tv, Gamer is a straight to dvd film that’s tv fodder.
The similarities of the running man and gamer are a moot to tie the joke together.
How many of you saying ‘wtf lol’ have actually seen gamer?
Guess I’m not the only one who immediately thought of the Running Man when I saw the trailer for Gamer.
hehe I thought exactly.
“Btw, what is the song in the end? i notice its a remake from Marilyn Masnon song… But what is the group that made this remake?”
the music clip= It’s Weird Al ‘Polka-fizing’ a Marilyn Manson tune
(from a Weird Al fan-girl who owns every album he’s ever made ;)
Didn’t see Gamer, but I already knew it was a remake or a re-run (see what I did there) of Running Man.
WE HAVE TO GET TO MARS!!!
Lol, I see what you did there.
Noah, you’re being way too subtle. You really have to tone it down for the masses. Add some curse words and Batman references.
Never saw Running Man, so… I’m not sure I get it.
You know, as rehashed a concept as it is, I couldn’t figure out where I had seen the exact same concept before. Thanks for reminding why OC is such a thing of the past these days.
Wasn’t running man already ripped off by the movie death race or whatever the hell it was called. Was like the same thing but with cars. IMO something tells me there are people in power out there that would LOVE to be able to free up some space in the prison system this way lol. Maybe they that’s why they keep making these movies wondering if people would let them do it.
Exactly what I thought when I saw the commercial. Running man rip off.
…I don’t get it.
“Gamer,” is the worst movie I’ve ever seen in my life. I felt raped after watching it. I now know what rape feels like.
boy, spooney and his minions are just all about the bandwagon jumping these days…..
It feels like he use that phrase in his every movie. Or is it only me..
what? running man? did the antagionist from RM have a god complex? i call fail on this one spoony…
seriously, the end “game” of the movie, when the whole plot/reason for micheal c hall’s char creating the games is reviled, so far from RM it’s funny… yeah “con’s play games for the masses entertainment” sounds similar, but there’s more going on in Gamer than cooperate greed….
I think people are over-embellishing the similiarities, though. The similiarities start and end with “convicts can choose to play a game where their life, and freedom, is at risk”. Gamer was more about things related to the internet, and I know a lot of it will be missed on people. The second life references were great.
Damn you, Dawson! You’re going to haunt me throughout my life, aren’t you?
Still, “Only in a rerun,” is lulz-worthy.
NO! DERE ARE INNOCENT WOMEN AND CHILDREN DOWN DERE!
I hope you leave enough room for my fist, because I’m going to ram it into your stomach AND BREAK YOUR GOD DAMN SPINE AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
I liked the movie. The premise wasn’t really original but honestly I was a lot more interested in the social commentary about our culture’s internet habbits, which seemed spot on.
I knew Running Man (the horrible bastardization of the Richard Bachman/Stephen King novel, “the Long Walk”). I just didn’t know what “Gamer” was. I looked it up, and it does look like a horrible clone of “Running Man” and as someone said, the Super NES classic “Smash TV”.
So after reading up on Running Man, that movie doesn’t sound half bad. Can anybody who has seen it give me their opinion of Running Man? I love how Richard Dawson is the game’s host. SURVEY SAYS!
Ha, ha, ha!
lionheart, you need to get off the planet because you haven’t seen running man! but seriously all arnold’s old flicks are classics in their own way. Its cheesy, silly, and a real critic would probably consider it total garbage but its a classic action flick and arnold lifts a car. (like in everyother movie he’s in) it has the one liners, the insane gore and over the top game show ham acting, but its original and fun. Watch it for entertainment don’t try and get anything else out of it or else people will think your crazy.
Response to diggerjohn111…
The Long Walk was a different story altogether. The Running Man novel still had the character Ben Richards and Dan (Damon in the movie) Killian, but was still very different from the movie. But it is understandable that those stories could get mixed up with one another. :)
Oh yeah. It is it’s own book. I just looked it up. not some of King’s best. I stand corrected Bill.
The movie was awful. You could have watched The Running Man and Crank side by side and had a better movie.
this just made me want to watch running man again for the 1000th time, hell I could watch it a million times and still stay as far away from Gerard Butler as humanly possible
Well, if you don’t know it yet The Running Man (1987) is a rip-off of the french film Le Prix du Danger (1983)
Check it out for yourself :
haha nice one spoony :)
@63 – Well, if you didn’t know it yet The Running Man is the film adaption of a Stephen King story by the same name which was printed in 1982. I highly doubt that the film version is ripping off the French short film that came out after the story was published, though to be completely fair Le Prix du Danger is based off of a 1958 book which was also made into Germany’s Das Millionspiel (1970). Still, the point is. Didn’t rip off of the French film.
… wich was a rip-off of the german movie “Das Millionenspiel” from 1970 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066079/
In a world where the internets have taken over. One man must fight for his freedom, controlled by another man, controlled by his lust for mountain dew and cheetos. Jamie Lee Curtis, Gene Wilder and Morgan Freeman (as the internets) star in Gamer! Will the sun come out tomorrow? You better bet you bottom dollar!
Sorry yeah, great 5-second movie. I’m glad people notice that is just a retread of The Running Man. Also, if you haven’t seen The Running Man, go rent or buy it. It’s classic Arnold and even features an annoying female love interest/side kick.
I HOPE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY FIST BECAUSE I’M GOING TO RAM IT INTO YOUR STOMACH AND BREAK YOUR GODDAMN SPINE!
I do not see any similarities in between the movies nor was I reminded of Running Man when I saw it. I generally like it for what it was a sci-fi flick that being said Gerard Butler and Michael Hall are amazing. The concept that was set up in the movie is very nice referencing, Second Life and multiple FPS games. I like how the point of the movie was simply to point out that we are puppets in a way in our society, and our Human self indulging and selfdestructive nature. I can pull more out but Im going to stop here. Over all a decent sci-fi flick, & very violent =)))
I miss the days when games weren’t so fucking mainstream. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always wanted games to get more popular and in demand, raking in more money, because I wanted the world to see video games as an interactive art form, and a fun and great experience. As well, I wanted great games to get money so more great games could be made. Not what happened. We get tons of tongue and cheek unoriginal brain dead poorly written first person shooters hogging up the market, and suddenly that’s the only genre of gaming that exists outside of sports games. Yeah, you’re a gamer because you play another game with a floating gun. Hell, if it’s not fps games, or even 3ps games, it’s some fucking MMO(like that NCIS episode Spoony reviewed). Now that developers are finally releasing several other genres, the media/casual fucks still haven’t a single clue. It’s like the media is ALWAYS one or two or, hell. ten steps behind the real world. I saw a commercial about seatbelts that involved a kid sitting around playing a GTA look alike. Stop it. Please. for the love of fucking god, stop it. I just… I can’t take it anymore. This isn’t how I wanted it to heppen.
BTW, I LIKE fps/3ps games, I just hate most modern titles. And even if I didn’t hate them, it bothers me that apparently that’s the only genre worth noting. The hell happened to platformers or action/adventure titles being the main? Sigh….
Besides being a rip-off of Running Man (and lots of other movies–seriously, even if they don’t follow an exact formula there have been plenty of books and movie plots that involve condemned prisoners forced to fight each other for entertainment, so it’s been done a hundred times, not just once or twice, before), I found Michael Hall’s gratingly annoying sterotypical Southern accent during the preview to be grounds enough for not watching it, as if I felt that annoyed during a minute trailer I felt I would be driven insane during a two-hour movie.
I like the guy in Dexter but its depressing that this is his major blockbuster film debut since his “acting” seems to be horrific. Probably the fault of the creators.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who immediately thought “Running Man” when I saw the preview for Gamer.
“I knew Running Man (the horrible bastardization of the Richard Bachman/Stephen King novel, “the Long Walk”). ”
Actually, no. The Running Man was a horrible bastardization of the Richard Bachman/Stephen King novel, The Running Man. The Long Walk is a completely separate book.
Speaking of “The Long Walk”, why hasn’t that one been made into a movie yet?
I actually enjoyed this film. I'm an FPS fan and a Gerrard Butler supporter. I just finished watching “Law Abiding Citizen” as well, kinda reminded me of “Shawshanks Redemption”. Might make a Gerrard Butler website at b2website. Or is that pushing it too far? :P
