The Spoony Experiment

Robowar Review

by Spoony on September 6, 2009 · View Comments

Creator’s commentary can be found here.

Reb Brown, star of Space Mutiny and Yor, returns in his greasiest adventure yet!  Can he and the elite BAM Squad survive the terror of the Robowar?

Edit: Bruno Mattei was a director on Porno Holocaust. Joe D’Amato just got top-billing. There has been no goof!

He’s right. I believe Bruno directed some of the porn scenes in “Porno Holocaust.” He did uncredited assistant work on quite a few movies, most notably “Zombi 3.”

zerzsrtzrtsus6rtud September 8, 2009 at 8:41 am

This is your best review yet, fucking genius.

EnginSoysal September 8, 2009 at 8:42 am

Dude

1 question… Where did you get that poster on the background… It totally rocks…

I’m turkish… and that title is DEFINITLY TURKISH…

But it’s strange… your reviewing RoboWars… but that poster isn’t saying RoboWars…

Translation:

Robo Savas Belasi = Robo Wars Pain in the ass.

I am not kidding… belasi means pain in the ass… like when you say basbelasi you mean pain in the ass…

Robo Wars Pain In The Ass… I need that poster man…

Exceptional work spooney. Very funny movie. Very funny skits. Very funny references. I like your new cast. You can’t surround yourself with enough funny people, dude. Gonna donate some money as my way of saying thank you and my way of saying “keep it up.”

Dan September 8, 2009 at 9:31 am

This will go down in the Spoony annals as one of the all-time classics. Noah, you outdo yourself once again!

Orin Bishop September 8, 2009 at 10:06 am

These guys fight like dairy farmers, and I don’t think “don’t move” even qualifies as a one-liner.
Regardless, awesome job!

Prons September 8, 2009 at 1:20 pm

This review rocked spoony

Matteus September 8, 2009 at 1:26 pm

I couldn’t help but notice the film is in ENGLISH with subtitles in JAPANESE directed by an ITALIAN with a poster in TURKISH

ThePotatoKing September 8, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Robodebacle?

Asna September 8, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Best review in a long time. ROFL all the way thru

Kefka September 8, 2009 at 2:42 pm

The elite tactical unit’s primary strategy?

Standing in a line. Out in the open. Firing from the hip.

BRILLIANT!

Shadowdancer21b September 8, 2009 at 3:30 pm

There is an Army hand signal involving a double fist pump. It means “Rush the objective”. Also, “Citizen Soldier” for the win! “We will always be ready, because we will always be there!” One more thing; Dark Maze Studios are some great folks!

Con-Fu September 8, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Its just sad when the movie within the movie is better then the movie itself.

smb1916 September 8, 2009 at 5:19 pm

i like you videos and reviews but this one was alittle to cinema snob ish be youre self we already have a cinema snob…

Inarik September 8, 2009 at 6:13 pm

I saw Spoony’s cat.

cavalier September 8, 2009 at 6:37 pm

That was an epic review.

The SWAT 4 reference was great, as was integrating Animal House. In fact, it would take a whole review to cover how great this review is.

I admit I don’t want ALL your reviews coming out like this, but like the Final Fantasy Finale it is a great way of mixing things up.

godofplague September 8, 2009 at 7:21 pm

Ed Glazier and Peter Davis are hillarious.
Spoony thanks for reviewing the Press start movie I loved it.

This was another great review. NC, Transmission awesome and a new vid. Someones been busy!

bee_oh_three September 8, 2009 at 7:49 pm

Wow, this movie was as blatant a ripoff as Eragon was to Star Wars.

Funny, funny stuff…I actually liked the parody interludes (and I will join in line those paying respect to Ed Glazer)…though it was when you were making the jokes yourself that the review was at its’ strongest.

All I was thinking about when you mentioned Porno Holocaust was the line Cinema Snob used on it…”the holocaust of cinema”. Is it safe to say Bruno Mattei is the Italian equivalent to Uwe Boll?

Mortamir September 8, 2009 at 10:41 pm

This is awesome. Probably the best review you made

Adam's Whiskey September 8, 2009 at 11:53 pm

Your movie seemed to ‘mimic’ the general TGWTG bland review theme (with all their flaws) reaaaally closely.
Was this some sort of meta-review, a parody of reviews produced by review of unintentional parody, or what?

Fredrik September 9, 2009 at 12:06 am

The best review I have seen in a long, long time from you. Please make more things like this Spoony.

Rawley September 9, 2009 at 7:07 am

I’m still waiting for a review of “Robot Jox”. Please Spoony, please.

ClarencePilsor September 9, 2009 at 11:51 am

Ed Wood did make some pornographic movies later in life.

PontifexPrimus September 9, 2009 at 12:03 pm

I really liked this one – it’s quite a change of pace, and I’m not sure if I wanted to see only reviews in this style, but as a one-off it’s great. I also like your versatility, you seem to be able to adapt to doing different styles quite quickly.

Keep up the good work!

eadwin September 9, 2009 at 2:27 pm

This is an absolutely splendid work. Ed Glazer team did an awesome job in their scenes as well. Loved it! Probably my favorite of your work except for The Thing, which is beyond hilarious. You make everybody on TGWTG look weak, who don’t happen to take it seriously at all, putting out weak, half-assed material… and yet somehow manage to gain a considerable amount of recognition, which they certainly don’t deserve. Keep it up, Spoonyone!

Insomnia September 9, 2009 at 3:35 pm

Its sad to say, but just watching this review makes me actually want to find a copy of this movie just to have something to laugh at. Thats one thing I love about really bad action movies. The actors might be dumb and say some pretty cheesy lines, but the whole thrill and awesomeness of everything just makes it great!

luigi September 9, 2009 at 4:24 pm

why couldn’t it be bad ass motherfuckers instead of big ass motherfuckers it sounds cooler and it makes more sense

Toni Mush September 9, 2009 at 5:31 pm

We put our faith in BLAST HARDCHEESE! =D best mystery science theatre episode ever haha, along with the one with Brak in it but i cant remember the movie name “Sppoooooocckkkk” =S

If you know which one it is Spoony please let me know, I R a girl in need of classic MST3K!

<3 X

Caro September 9, 2009 at 6:43 pm

Awesome review, as usual.

I have to say, I squealed at the Monkey Island reference. You’ve got the best commentary.

Dark Pascual September 9, 2009 at 7:04 pm

So it was not only a Predator rip-off…it was also a Universal Soldier rip-off?

ShadowPhoenix142 September 9, 2009 at 11:40 pm

A great review as usual. That song during the whole, “Lets join in” sequence…I just can’t put my finger on exactly what it is. Its right on the tip of my tongue too.

Ambrose September 10, 2009 at 6:04 am

“a transmitter with a range thats shorter than my dick”

oh spoony, you card. great review as always, and its great to see that they are coming as fast as they used to. every few days i’m eager to open you website to see another vid, and you don’t dissapoint.

when are you going to be doing another videogame review?

Melody September 10, 2009 at 10:31 am

I swear Spoony, you better have a shirt that says “Greasy Greasy” with the robot from this movie made up soon, because if you don’t do it, I will.

TheBest! September 10, 2009 at 7:14 pm

Oh Man! This is your best review yet! I want a Bad Ass Motherfuckers shirt! I laughed from start to finish.

TheBest! September 10, 2009 at 7:17 pm

You have to review the Captain America movie. I cant find it on MST3K. I also want to see a review on Space Mutiny.

Ivan Druzhkov September 11, 2009 at 7:46 am

20:35 – OMG, you shot Roland Taverner! NOOOO!

He was the only character in “Southland Tales” I didn’t hate!

zenoffpark September 11, 2009 at 8:22 am

What the hell is up with all the yes men in these comments? Spoony, you could post a video of yourself taking a crap and 95 percent of these idiots would say its your best video ever.

Please go back to your old style.

anon September 11, 2009 at 10:50 am

nice monkey island ref

A Big Fan September 11, 2009 at 4:08 pm

YOU’RE STANDING IN MY SPOT, SIR.

TheBest! September 11, 2009 at 8:22 pm

You have to attack The Sword and the Sorcerer! That movie was so delightfully awesome and yet shitty all at the same time. If you dont have it let me send you a copy. It stars Lee Horsly star of Matt Houston and OMG he is actually staring in another version of that old movie and doing the 1980s promised 2nd film called Tales of an Ancient Empire….I mean how cool is that?

Midnight Voyager September 11, 2009 at 9:50 pm

…Spoony. Your shirt. Does it say Montresor Amontillado? Because… I require one of those.

Petoht September 11, 2009 at 10:45 pm

One of the code names is “Papa Doc”? Seriously?

That line makes me laugh more than just about anything else.

J. J. Ramsey September 12, 2009 at 9:29 am

The sketches in the review could almost make a mini-movie of their own–and one better than Robowar itself. Great addition to the review.

xite September 12, 2009 at 10:14 am

Amazing production values in this review. Keep it up!

Tanya September 12, 2009 at 10:41 am

Did anyone else see the pretty kitty in the back ground when the great spoony was playing the piano? and yeah you can tell that that these guys are American cause they shoot in their fashion. ‘Fire enough bullets and hope to hit the target.’ as quoted by Alan Quatermain from the movie League of extroadinary gentlemen. One would think that by the second shooting scene already they’de be out of bullets… except Chuck Norris ofcourse.

Lybra September 12, 2009 at 6:48 pm

You’ve gotta love those movies that are so horrible or so much fun to riff on they’re awesome. Its the reason my friends and I saw Dragonball in the theaters.
Also, go Burton! You show that Spoony clone who’s boss!

Smilez September 12, 2009 at 6:54 pm

Wow now that I think about it, this actually reminds me a little bit of Wachers 3 where they are in the jungle with Einstien and the lizard man from Castlevania! Its just the similarities of how bad both movies are! But then I thought all of the Watchers movies were horrible.

Nonesuch September 12, 2009 at 11:02 pm

I just realized, when the cut to the scene on the boat, the name of the skiff is “African Queen 2″. If you’ve ever seen The African Queen, you will understand my horror at naming it thus. T_T

BTW Great work on this Spoony. Predator is a movie I hold in high regard. Robowar is TERRIBLE.

spokojasne September 13, 2009 at 2:39 am

“Big Ass Motherfuckers” – my god, this line almost killed me…
loved tha rewiev, guys

Stone September 13, 2009 at 3:37 am
