Me ol’ Chumbucket, that game was the DEATH of this greatest series ever made.

Holy shit Spoony, making a snide comment like that about Zelda is pure bullcrap. No doubt the reason a sizable amount of your audience exists is because we consider you someone who actually has some level of respect for his audience, at least give us a Vlog on how you arrived to such a conclusion about the series.

Quite a few fans of the series actually deplore Majora’s Mask and Wind Waker simply for the fact that they ARE so different, bear in mind we are still talking about some of the most acclaimed games ever here. The only 3D Zelda game that can even be considered ’stale’ is Twilight Princess (which is what people apparently wanted), and even that pushed the bar in terms of cinematography (something you should appreciate), character development, visuals and scale. You telling me that riding a Beyblade or sumo wrestling a Goron isn’t original?

What game series has less evolution than Zelda? I don’t know maybe MONKEY ISLAND, GTA, Total War and all of those random RTS games you play, Silent Hill, the old style Resident Evil, Dragon Quest, pretty much every fighting series (which is expected), every shooter series out there and… hell I might even strain to think after an hour of this.

Come on, blanket statements should be beneath you.

Also, no Skies or Zack & Wiki? What the flip.

onnet September 20, 2009 at 5:19 pm

For the love of fucking god!! Why there are some many post mentioning Skies of Arcadia?? That game embodied the very concept of stupidity… oh and BTW the graphics weren’t that good, even for that time..

Viper6390 September 20, 2009 at 5:47 pm

To everyone saying that he should have put Skies of Arcadia on his list, he probably forgot about it or he has never played it. Second, this is his list so he is entitled to his own opinions and if he doesn’t have it then he doesn’t have it so STFU! Oh, and about Zack and Wiki, even though it is a good point and click puzzle/adventure game, the game did not sell well and Spoony probably has either never heard of it or played it.

DeathsHead419 September 20, 2009 at 7:26 pm

Also, this whole video review sieries was meant as a joke to celebrate “Talk Like a Pirate” day.

Case September 20, 2009 at 7:57 pm

I’m enjoying this theme of yours. Not a bad accent either. :)

I thought of ‘Skies of Arcadia’ too, but I guess that could be a debate between ‘Air vs. Sea’. I don’t mind either way; no sense in getting riled over a mention.

CapnG September 20, 2009 at 8:05 pm

What?! What about “Rampart”?

“But don’t you build castles in that game?”

Yeah… castles on islands… islands under attack from PIRATES!!!

ChaosTree September 20, 2009 at 8:08 pm

Hrmm, since you spend a good chunk of the game traveling in a pirate ship and fighting sea monsters, could you consider Final Fantasy 1 a pirate game? Nah, but seriously these videos were great. Couldn’t think of more than one or two things to add to any of the lists, they just about summed it all up.

ProfessorB_of_FalconPunchUniversity September 20, 2009 at 8:42 pm

I would agree with Skies of Arcadia needing to be on this list, but I’m going to go even more obscure and vote for Xenogears because of the AWESOME desert(and later sea and air) pirates who you join up with and become your allies in the game. Okay, maybe it doesn’t come to mind immediately, but it still involves pirates, damnit.

Juan September 20, 2009 at 9:47 pm

@Brian

May I ask if you don’t find funny someone embracing the negative of somethign then what were you doing watching Spoony all this time? just curiosity

Cortharis September 21, 2009 at 4:25 am

Argh yee skirvy sea dog, I’m sure yee tounge has slipped from your rattling brain bone. Yee had forgotten the very best naval pirate game todate of the title of Sea Dogs. She may have not been the best, but she was a good one to be playin’ with.

Spacepope September 21, 2009 at 11:26 am

pirates of the burning sea!

Nazzers September 21, 2009 at 11:44 am

My favorite pirate game is Skies of ARRRRRRRcadia. See what I did there? (pokes) Eh? EH?!

The UnFuckingBelievable Guy September 22, 2009 at 12:47 am

The moment I watched this, I knew, just knew, that the comments section would be filled with people naming some tangentially-pirate-related probably-Japanese whatsitmajigger I had never heard of.

Lo and behold! Skies of Arcadia.

Bhazor September 22, 2009 at 7:19 am

No love for Uncharted Waters: New Horizons? Bah!

JIC September 22, 2009 at 9:31 am

Also Maplestory has pirates >_>

*Runs

Matteus September 22, 2009 at 5:55 pm

what about Skuljagger?

ForgotMyName September 23, 2009 at 5:21 pm

What about Puzzle Pirates, me hardys? I reckon it not bein much of a real “pirate” game might’n be a problem with ye scurvy dogs, but it is pirate themed. Y’arr, and most of the other activities might be a bit of stolen and reskinned clones of other games too, but pirates we be! Stealin is what we do!

Seriously, it is fun, even if a lot is a knock off of other games. Swordfighting? Puzzle Fighter. Fistfighting? Puzzle Bobble. Bilge pumps? Bejeweled. Sailing? Dr. Mario (Although, this is a bit more original than the other pretty well straight copies.) Poker? Poker. Some of the games seem original though, like brewery, or shipwriting.

Suikoden89 September 27, 2009 at 5:30 pm

Is skies of arcadia a game that gets better and better? cause i played for a while and it was pretty good but never “great”.

please answer this cause your opinion might force me to pick up this game again ^^

Erdrick October 10, 2009 at 7:53 pm

There was a game released for PC some years ago called “Claw”. It was a platformer about an anthropomorphic pirate cat named Captain Claw who had his treasure stolen by some other pirates. The game had a variety of attacks and a pretty steep difficulty curve near the end, but overall was an excellent game.

Michael Rittenberry October 17, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Suikoden89, it depends on which version of Skies of Arcadia you tried. If it was the Dreamcast version, it absolutely got better and better until the ending. Wasn’t a big fan of the GC version, though.

Seanobi November 4, 2009 at 8:50 pm

You forgot The Elder Scrolls: Redguard Adventures!

More of an RPG Adventure game obviously, but its different from the others. You are actually a pirate, and it kicks so much ass!

Crea November 14, 2009 at 6:26 am

Claw!!

Motherfucking CLAW!!!!

Rafael Siegel June 30, 2010 at 7:02 am
