Great video and commentary, always look forward to your updates
anyway, I hate being one of those people on the internet that feels the need to point out every mistake or whatever
but I think you’d be interested to know this anyway: Captain America and the Avengers did come out on both the SNES and Genesis, but were only two player
the ports were okay, but I’m sure the Arcade version was better.
But ya it was placed on the SNES and let me tell ya hearing “Okay Go” before each stage came up and feeling like there was loading time understand that the SNES game I bet is WEAK compared to the arcade. Weak I say!
People don’t like Linkara? I love all the nerd, NC and spoony but I like Linkara has come out with some of my favourite stuff and plus I find him quite attractive, hehe Yeah, I think I have a bit of a crush on him. *giggle* :D
I love seeing these crossovers though, hope you’ll be doing some more!
Never got into Sonic? Don’t blame you, everyone has their tastes. Half the fun is indeed memorizing levels then coming back and trying to run through the levels perfectly; it’s kind of a reflex practice thing. The other half, or rather halves, are the music tracks that usually ranged from pretty good to fucking awesome, the exploration which is actually pretty good and became increasingly vast between Sonic 1 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles despite the speed aspect, the colorful and stylish graphics of the stages and their various themes, and the simple but fun platforming action.
As for that portable Sonic game you’re talking about, it’s Sonic 2; no relation to the Genesis game of the same name. I had that game too and I didn’t particularly like it either. Believe it or not, the main reason why it’s so hard is actually because of the low resolution of the screen; there’s a Master System version of the game with slightly less colorful graphics but it plays a lot better because you can see a lot more stuff, including enemies and traps ahead, so you can actually see the first boss and its projectiles when you fight it.
I’m feeling bad for you Spoony. Your first Sonic experience was the megadrive (game gear) version?! Christ, I hope it wasn’t Sonic 2 for game gear. That game is almost impossible even with SAVE STATES. I’d be traumatized too.
I never found the speed in Sonic games to be a problem. AVGN said it made him sick. You really aren’t allowed to go fast unless the game places you on a relatively safe path ful of loop de loops, and the later games like Sonic 3 have a good deal more careful platforming involved.
If you’re referring to the “unlockables” in the Dreamcast games, though, that’s another story. I broke my ass beating time records and collecting all 150-whatever fuck all emblems, and my save file got corrupted (those VMU memory cards…love how easy it is to destroy your saves by tugging out the controller by mistake). I nearly put a boot through the tv.
It’s funny mentioning the whole crossover stuff – I only started watching AT4W because of crossovers with The Spoon Experiment. I don’t think Linkara is as good as The Spoony One, but he’s enjoyable to watch.
Sometimes I get peeved with Linkara / Nostalgia Critic reviews when the reactions seem very staged. Obviously, they all ARE, but often the camera shots linger on them too long with just them grinning. Fast paced editing greatly improves the impact of such scenes. One of the reason I like TSE reviews is because they seem very natural, even when they’re heavily scripted.
During some of the crossovers with Linkara/Doug, the same sort of “obviously scripted banter” goes on, and I find that they aren’t as enjoyable as they could be for this reason. There’s a lot to be said for the kind of Deadpan humor we see Noah go for most of the time. Snark is the only emotion displayed :)
When you speak of “sonic portable” did you mean Sonic the Hedgehog 2 which came packed in with some game gears or sonic chaos. I agree Sonic 2 is frustratingly difficult but sonic chaos is alot better IMO, I actually downloaded it off the virtual console (its under master system games). Although that game does have the lamest 1st boss in any game (Its a giant springboard bug thing that never attacks you) I have ever played but getting to play as tails as well as sonic was a big plus.
Don’t get so down on yourself Spoony. Your crossovers are always awsome. And who doesn’t love Linkara and Dr. Insano? They should be killed….KILLED TO DEATH WITH A FORKLIFT!
People have no taste if they don’t like Dr. Insaneo or Linkara! Or They have differentiating opinions that disagree with my own, but I like the first response better don’t you?
Also
Love the commentaries, Kinda wish others would do them too. And your so apologetic and polite in them! It’s so cute!
I love Dr. Insano (the name alone kills me ^^). But as you mentioned in one of your earlier videos, you should keep his appearances to a minimum (as you do), so that he stays special. That’s why the AVGN lost me: he just gave his “guest stars” too much screen time.
As for Linkara: he rocks! Nuff said.
You two and some others are what I would call the “professional Elite” of TGWTG! Stay classy and I’ll keep watching!
But I agree with DeathsHead419: give us a comment on this whole Film brain fiasco before it gets (even more) out of hand!
I remember that the Might Avengers game did come out on SNES and Genesis.
I had the SNES version and it took me forever to beat this game. I don’t believe the game was all that hard. I just kept dying on the last 2 bosses. So many wasted hours… good times .. good times.
I’ve never much liked Linkara, but then I’ve only seen a little bit of his stuff. I’ve just never really found him to be particularly funny. I’m a big Dr. Insano fan though.
You made me all nostalgic for the X-Men arcade game, though. I was on a road trip once with a friend to see one of our buddies in Toronto, and we stopped at a Burger King in Indiana, saw the game and proceeded to lose an hour of driving time on that thing. SUCKED IN! THROW US A ROPE!
quick arizona question. the place you were describing with the arcade sounds like Castles and Coasters. i love that arcade. do you think thats the same place just different name for the times? if not then it just proves i dont get out much.
i personally don’t care how you guys do your reviews.if it adds to the comedy, then by all means do it!if you don’t/can’t cross over,it will still be entertaining.
There’s actually a rather nasty debate over where exactly the waterpark from Bill and Ted was located, with about 3-4 places around here (LA) claiming to be the place. One of our (previously local, now national) sports radio shows actually had a day-long debate between callers over which park it actually was.
The Avengers game was awesome! Rented it for the Genesis a few times, and me and my sister played like crazy over like an entire weekend. I think we actually beat it, or at least got to the final boss.
I really like the cross-overs and the Captain America and the Avengers game I had never played it at an Arcade its not a good game but even bad games need love 2
I remember playing the Avengers on my best friend’s Sega Genesis, before I got my N64. And I got to be hawkeye a good bit, and hells yeah he was hardcore… ah, memories, also, I call shenanigans on lousy people who don’t like Linkara and Dr. Insano… Now NC… well… I don’t tend to enjoy his stuff as much as I used to.
Ugh…. I was NEVER able to get passed the first boss of the sonic portable game, not once, never. That’s what the final boss should be in the next Sonic game, that stupid antlion boss.
Nice bit of commentary. You should totally do a review of the Game Gear Sonic. I remember beating it a few times but the most devastatingly annoying part about it was the game play was longer then the battery life. I would always get to the last level where you roll down the narrow corridors when the power would go out.

Awesome. First.
Keep up the good work! Really like these commentary
Hilarious. I love all the crossover stuff, keep it up!
Great commentary, but how about some commentary on the FilmBrain lynch-mob you’ve stirred up?
Great video and commentary, always look forward to your updates

I remember playing the avengers game on a friend’s snes back in the day-great review!

Dang you Shunkertron.

That “Of course” With the Red Skull came from Spiderman the animated series (1990s show) that Fox used to air.

Now we want to see that damn intrview!
What sad little creatures didn’t like Dr Insano? They should be punished, with Science! of course.
Post the vlogs, do it do it do it!
Well I do remember the avengers game being for the SNES i rented it all the time. Also hawk eye did kick ass.
Hey, Spoony, I had The Mighty Avengers on Sega Genesis.
So, there.

Linkara may throw like a girl, but he punches like a man.
The gamer your thinking of is PlayitBogart
Conventions are hard work!
Avengers was released for home consoles, xmen was not.
However the console version was npt nearly as good as the arcade

Actually, the Avengers did come to the SNES, I have it, and it did come out for the Genesis as well. It’s a really good party game.
Thanks Spoony! Been waiting for this.
Yeah, PlayitBogart’s Star Trek V that’s a great review:

I don’t know why, but the forklift joke just never gets old for me. :) I laugh every time I think about it.
I love you guys so much. :)

Yeah, actually, I had the Avengers on the SNES, too…
I, too, have Captain America and the Avengers on SNES and it fucking sucks.
Also, they didn’t shoot the Waterloo scene at Raging Waters???
People have been ragging on Linkara’s appearances? What the hell? Linkara’s awesome.
Any chance of seeing that Sonic Portable review in the future?

I totally had the Mighty Avengers on SNES. My dad brought it home as a surprise one day. Kinda hated it, personally :-P
