its was an ok review, but im glad he just saved me from seeing it. I guess in a sense it is a good title pandorum. its sort of like pandora and pandoras box let out a whole slew of shit and evil.

Yeah, I had some problems with Event Horizon too. It’s a great concept but the execution was cheesy.

Basically, I loved the mystery, the creepy video logs and chaotic buildup, but as soon as Sam Neil turned into Freddy Kruger and people started to follow dead relatives down spooky corridors, it got too silly to believe. A ghost can pull off that stuff in movies like House on Haunted Hill because it’s just a *house on a hill*, and meeting a familiar face is entirely possible. Ten gillion light years in space? Not so much. You’d have to be a complete idiot to be lead astray by someone who couldn’t possibly be there. It’s been a few years, but I’m pretty sure the relative was dead, so that’s even more hard to believe.

Instead of Gothic Horror in Space, they should have tossed logic out the door and embraced the anything-goes, nightmare logic of movies like Phantasm and Evil Dead. Now *that’s* how you scare people with chaos, not flame-broiled one-liners.

Yeeeeeaaaah, I’ll probably wait for a DVD release and rent it. Oh and I was pretty sure it was ripping of Event Horizon which I think it’s one of the best psychological horrors made, at least in space. You could make any non horror fan or horror fan at least scream once of fear and have nightmares or be afraid to be in the dark after seeing the movie not like the Saw or Hostel series.

It’s somewhat surprising how few horror movies go for the whole bit of dumping someone into a big vat of liquified human remains considering how much shock value you can get from it. The only other example that comes to mind is Phenomena, AKA Creepers. More people need to see that, but not for reasons of shocking gore. No, you should see it because it stars Jennifer Connelly, Donald Pleasence, and a chimpanzee. Realy not typical horror casting that.

ouch that sounds painful to watch. i wouldve just started quoting alien in the theater or something. i cant quote that movie but it sounds like a bad clone. that and this movie had the denis quaid effect. The first trailer for this had my hopes up big time. It looked like a pyschological horror flick. From the synopsis I read and that initial trailer, I guessed “pandorum” was this pyschosis that was a side effect of deep sleep during space travels. I figured all the scary creatures/imagery in the trailer would be all in the character’s heads, they’d go crazy, turn on one another. That type of thing.

It still wouldn’t have been too original, but it’s a vastly superior premise then what this movie actually is. The 2nd trailer I saw was so wretched. It’s just another hokey scifi horror/action flick, featuring the ultimate in lame cliches, the hot, petite ass kicking female, complete with cheesy gymnastics like moves to take full grown males down. When I saw the chick do that dumb somersault thing to take that guy down I knew all was lost and this movie had ZERO chance of being good. Is that supposed to be cool? It’s unrealistic and lame. Just have her knock him in the head with something. Stupidass directors.

For the record, when I saw the 2nd trailer I thought it looked like a lame space version of the brilliant Descent. Speaking of which, how can you not like that one Spooney, it’s awesome. Just avoid the bullshit american ending.

Oh, and how can you cast Dennis Quaid in a sci fi flick and not at some point have another character yell at him to, “start the reactor!!!”. COME ON!!! That’s the one thing that could have made this movie worthwhile.

…Event Horizon is one of Laurence Fishburne’s most undignified roles? THE MAN WAS IN “TORQUE!” If that’s not his most undignified role by a long margin, I will eat my hat.

Of course, I’m not terribly familiar with Fishburne’s filmography, so it’s probably I good thing I don’t own any hats.

meh, the general consensus is that Event Horizon is a shitty movie, which i disagree with, but i completely see why that’s so. however, Descent’s one of my favorite movies, and to the people using the “Simpsons did it” argument, how many times did you see people submerged in literal pools of gore before The Descent? it’s an iconic scene, and Pandorum’s inclusion of an identical scene is flagrantly ripping it off. from that, you can extrapolate that much of the scriptwriting process consisted of shamelessly copying and pasting from other movies. i detest when films try to get away with being aborted clones of better films, and i’m not often into sci-fi movies anyway, so i’ll see Pandorum in hell

I’d personally like people to take chances, it won’t happen since the viewing populace loves shit like this; seeing doofus’ run through the cramped corridors of a government made structure with gunmetal walls, bad electrical wiring, and watching them get picked off by a monster… since you’re all sick and demented. You could easily make something sound original, and possibly be more out there if you just use a random word generator and mix things around.

Like with this movie….. instead of these genetically altered monsters, how about they be cats? Feral cats, like ocelots, and no hints are shown or given of what they are. And instead of a scientific task force have the protagonists be…. vermin exterminators, or electricians who come to…. install eco-friendly lighting, or get rid of mice that the cats are breeding. And they get picked off not by the monsters popping out and munching on their face, or hunting them, or by stupidly separating, but by the cats…. doing something, I don’t know, I’m just thinking this off the top of my head.

Oh man, you haven’t look this bad ever, not even when you complaint about the DVD tabs that shut the boxes close. I bet that your state made the movie worse than what it is, try give it a chance later on when you feel better, things look terrible when you feel really sick.

I have to admit, I kind of liked the title. It sounded so promising! But they went for zombie-canibals… I guess people just aren’t creative enough.

Dun sweat it man, you’ve been doing great with the updates. Much more than the once a month days. I hated the fucking decent lol. I hate fucking false awakenings. And thats all the decent is, false awakening + in the dark the whole fucking move + 6 fairly attractive chicks who despite being there to be killed off in a horror movie somehow manage not to show any skin at all. But to be fair the first 10 minutes or so was kind of good. Also I rarely agree with you when it comes to movies, but I love hearing you opinion about them. Because I know that if you really like it, then I will like it for sure. Still you need to stop hating on joss whedon one of these days.

Eh… Didn’t enjoy Event Horizon either. It was cheesy and ultimately pointless. Basically, you turned a Spaceship into Stephen King’s “Christine”. What was the ships’ motivation, anyway? Kill people gradually and/or bring them to hell? For what reason? Just because it could?

I never saw “The Descent” either. Personally, if all the previews for a movie tend to go for “jumbled mess with intermixed screaming” so that you think it looks awesome, but ultimately tells you NOTHING about the movie… I take that as a sign that the movie isn’t going to be good.

Besides that, I also don’t watch movies where your “monster” happens to be a human being. Yes, movie industry, we get it. You think humans are the scariest of creatures and the most sadistic of them. I’m sorry, but if I wanted to watch something like this, I’d watch the news. If I wanted to know just what kind of sick and depraved things human beings are capable of, there’s the news. No need to waste billions of dollars on a movie to illustrate the point.

At least with Firefly and Serenity, they took it in another direction. The Reavers basically WEREN’T human. They were their own strange species. They were made especially interesting in that it was known just where they tended to hang out in Space, and that area was avoided like the plague.

Also, I’m sick of the “claustrophobic” angle that filmmakers keep trying to shove down our throats. I’m sorry, but there are better movies that DON’T utilize the “dark claustrophobic corridor”. I mean, look at the Alien movies. The hallways are huge and most of them are decently lit. Yet, the aliens can still somehow grab you from anywhere.

It’s to the point now that the settings for half the horror movies are in predictable locations just because they NEED TO EXPLAIN the dark and cramped corridors. A temple, a cave, an old spaceship with no lights.

I think filmmakers should rethink this and try to do horror in a mall (that doesn’t involve zombies).

You are truly good at your craft if you can make wide-open areas scare the daylights out of your viewers. I mean, just look at Jaws. No corridors there. The climax of the movie is even during the day. And it made some people afraid to go into the water.

Why are filmmakers so bankrupt when it comes to new ideas? Or is it the fault of the writers? Either way, someone needs to be fired and replaced with people who have NEW ideas.

Spoony, you do know there are no original ideas left for movies, right?

(I’m 18, even) Plus, it has Bruce Campbell as the Mayor, and Mr. T as a freaking awesome police officer. Skip the unoriginal crap like Pandorum, go see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.

Although I do agree with you that the movie is not that original, I thought the movie was not that bad. I did not think it was scary, but I enjoyed it for the most part. I think you got it wrong that no one in the movie had Pandorum, because at the end it showed that Quaid had Pandorum all along. In fact he and the guy that seemed to have Pandora were the same person, he was just hallucinating, a symptom of Pandorum.

Have you seen the CG movie “9″? It’s exactly what you just said about this movie, except in a different genre. I liked the animation, but it was seriously a complete rehash of cliche elements from post-apocalyptic survival movies; characters, plot, and all! Because of that, it was ridiculously predictable.

It’s a shame, the previews made the film look better. I’ll probably go see it since I’m a glutton for bad movies.

Thats the problem with horror now, if they don’t rehash old ideas into a new or the same setting, or remakings old films, and badly, I for one would love to see some new horror films that are worth their salt, but in the world now why go for original when you can play it safe and just stick with what the majority will enjoy ( Not uscomisuires that is ), as the filthy unwashed masses would be happy with shaking keys in their face while shouting ‘LOOK AT THE SHINY SHINY!’

I usually dont agree with your movie reviews, but you nailed this one.
I saw Pandorum with my dad, and while he says it scared him, I kept thinking “I suppose this would be cool…..if I havent seen it done so many times already.”
There were no jump or scare moments, all the ideas were recycled from decent movies, no redeeming quality at all.
Best part of the movie was the trailer for Law Abiding Citizen right before the movie started.

I found The Descent to be rather underrated as horror film go. I urge anyone who hasn’t seen it to watch the British cut, since the American one is like a different (inferior) film.

The “there are no original ideas” excuse is just that: an excuse. There are so many ideas that haven’t been made into film that the idea all the good ones are taken just doesn’t hold water, much less ones like Pandorum, which really does go far beyond “sharing a genre with The Descent/Event Horizon/Alien” into “directly ripping scenes from The Descent/Event Horizon/Alien.” There’s a difference between having a similar milieu, setting or plot, and lifting shots and characters wholesale.

The thing is it seem cool when it was just space madness and not space zombies. The first trailer seemed cool un tell later we found out about them. I mean hell they don’t even look all that well made and they look corny as hell. On a side note I saw Up at the dollar theater. I was sobbing like a fool during the start it was pretty sad well it was more like the single indian tear or something. Sorry i had to get the shitty taste out of my mouth since i could think of a better film.

Thank god someone else agrees that Event Horizon wasn’t that good! I went to see it when it came to the cheap theatre on campus, and everyone else who went with me couldn’t believe I wasn’t impressed. Even today my wife still thinks it was pretty good. I’m sorry, but over-acting combined with eyeballs attached to your palms, as a “log message”? It was a “B” movie.

i know we are talking here about Pandorum, but i would like to point out that Event Horizon is one of the worst sci-fi movies ever made in my book, – ok granted, it has some powerfull, scary and overall good moments, but most of the time i was screaming at the screen: “people dont act that way in situation like this!” “why you said that? are you a moron?!” “dont do that, its totally illogical and stupid, aaargh!” – this movie was stupid… ok i`ll buy the plot, special effects and the scenographics,
but acting and script killed this movie – i acctually was pissed off by this movie, it was one of the few films that made me angry…

I thought it looked “samey” when I saw the promo video. I also loved Event Horizon for the very cheesiness you mentioned. It was so over the top, it was awesome. Anyway, Pandorum is off my list. I haven’t seen this movie, but I could tell from the add that it was just The Descent in space. Fuckin retarded. I really hope more movie companies will pull their heads out of their asses and start making movies that value the viewers as intellectuals and not just sheep with wallets (sheep with wallets being infamously bad consumers, mind you). And I had a question of logic: if the Earth had a nuclear holocaust and it’s a colony ship, couldn’t they just, you know, repopulate Earth after the fallout cleared up? Well, not repopulate, but they could go back there and just stake claims to a region and live. Though I guess the insane guy didn’t really think that one out.

I’m a huge sci-fi/horror buff, probably much more than most and I loved this movie. Regardless of it’s lack of originality at the core I think it pulled together many elements that we haven’t seen in movie for a very long time and crafted them into an acceptable and entertaining film.

First and foremost I agree with you spoony. When I first saw this movie on saturday I really didn’t know what to think except turn down the dam sound. The humans all whisper and the monster all of sudden scream in your ears until they bleed. And the whole time I was watching the movie I was think wow I know i have seen this movie before and I couldn’t think of what it was now i know it’s every dam scifi movie ever made. If you must see this movie rent it don’t waste your money going to the theater.

I actually liked the Descent, It’s the only film in a long time that has scared me.

But this is W.S. Anderson….creator of those god awful AVP and Resident Evil films.

So my expectations were all ready low and Spoony just confirmed my thoughts. Not going to waste my time on it.

I normally completely agree with your outbursts, but like you said, someone has to give you some heat on this.

First, 2 people in the film actually have ‘Pandorum’. This was made very clear, unless you skipped the ending (which I think you must have–see my next point). Also, there was no concrete indication that the one man “immediately” lost his shit. Very little of the backstory was shown and all of what you are referring to was only ever alluded to. We know it happened, but there was no exact time-frame. The time-rotation of the 3 man crew was 2 years. I think it’s completely acceptable that a man with the knowledge that his ship is THE last bastion of human life, could break under the pressure and develop “space-madness”. Sure it’s silly, but this IS a sci-fi movie. If you can’t suspend a little disbelief, you should avoid the genre. That would be like a single straight guy watching a chick-flick and getting angry that it’s nothing but a cheesy love-story.

Second, complaining about DQ’s character not hitting the “annoying guy” with a crow-bar to shut him up is a ridiculous argument that anyone could rebut after simply watching the ending. It’s pretty damn clear WHY he couldn’t, man. And I think it’s unfair to set up people who haven’t seen the movie to think it a failure based on half-truths from a reviewer they trust. Again, it’s pretty silly and predictable WHY, but it is well within believability given the context of the film.

Third, the “some people, who somehow don’t” haven’t evolved into the mutants because they haven’t been out of their containers for very long. The girl Ben Foster meets was only out for Six or so months. In the end the length of the voyage was unveiled to be [SPOILERalmostathousandyearsSPOILER], which with the SCIENCE! of the evolution serum, it’s easily conceivable that these drastic mutations could take hundreds of years to fully adapt a human to the surroundings of the ship.

And lastly, you said that the theater was empty, yet a minute later commented that “everyone was laughing” at the part where Ben Foster is losing his shit in the tube snot. Now, if in fact you were not contradicting yourself, and “everyone” was simply you and your brother, then I believe it would have been better to simply say that YOU and your brother found it hilarious. But, I understand that doing so would lend more credence to the film in which you are slandering and thus be counter-intuitive to your argument. Not a big deal, of course, and I know that I’m just nit-picking, but anal constructive criticism is a specialty of mine and I felt I had to point this out.

Anyways, this is in no way meant to be a serious attack on your opinion. This is just the first time I can think of when I have disagreed with you, so I figured I would take the time to state why. And that said, there was definitely a bunch of dumb shit within the movie. The editing was atrocious, there was NO geography of the action sequences and the labyrinthine dark ship is old fucking hat, but I have to say I still quite enjoyed the movie as a whole. For me, everything doesn’t have to be “NEW!”, it just has to be entertaining and Pandorum was just that. At least in my opinion. And that’s the one you’re reading.

This movie left me with a headache afterwards. It may have been because, where I saw it, the sound was up way too loud, but nothing in the movie sure decided to help. At the end, for me at least, I sort of understood what happened, but it still leaves you thinking, “Wtf?”. It explains what happens, or tries, but doesn’t make it completely clear. It wasn’t terrible, but it’s not really worth the ticket price.

I hope you get better. In regards to this movie, I doubt I will watch it unless I forget about it and catch it in tv someday. Probably won’t screen in my country any time soon, seen as District 9 and Drag me to Hell open this weekend, yeah it sucks.

Man, when I saw the first preview for this movie I was looking forward to it. But then later on I saw another preview and they threw in that giant message at the begining announceing who was producing it…
Anything and everything Paul Anderson touches immediately turns to garbage…as soon as I found out he was attached to this film all of the excitement I had for the movie shriveled and died.
I was already planning on avoiding this movie, but this definitely reassures my decision.

I haven’t seen Pandorum, but from what the movie looked like from the
trailer, I was in no way expecting a good film… I have to agree that it would just
rip off tons of sci-fi films. I have seen both Event Horizon and The Descent, and
I really hated Event, and Pandorum would most likely fall in that category.
If I had to choose between these particular movies, I would choose The Descent. And ya
those are not the best to choose from but I would for sure choose Descent over any of the
other two.

Event Horizon, that was a good movie…when I was 14. You know what I’m going to go rent that anyway Spoony you got me in the mood to see it again, and Fuck Dennis Quaid.

I found your review REALLY strange. It was like you were commenting on a movie you only saw a preview of. I saw this yesterday and really like it. Granted I adore sci-fi movies and really tolerate a lot of bad crap (my movie buddy has the standards of a brick and will enjoy just about anything that movies in front of him) but I do not think this movie is half as bad as you describe it.

First off you completely missed numerous really really really really obvious points. Two characters did have pandorum and the fact you missed that is O_O. You would have had to walk out of the movie before 1/3 of it was done. Heck it was eluded early on that the first guy you met had it.

My biggest complaint is the crow-barred romance. Apparently if I run into a guy in a horridly stressful situation I’ll fall for him REGARDLESS of any possible personality differences. Sure there wasn’t much romance but it was hinted at. If they had kissed I would have instantly hated the movie :P

Yes it was old hat, but I don’t think Decent did it better… just differently. I actually put them on the same bar with Pandorum slightly above it. Not much mind… At least this movie didn’t directly pull crap from other films. The whole cryo-tube was completely necessary due to the plot. They explain WHY the dude has no idea whats going on when he wakes up and again you must have not paid that much attention at all to the movie to miss these things :P

Sorry, Spoony I dissagree with you. Over all i think the movie was really good and by the way I did not like Event Horizon. Oh and I thought Descent was not good. I’m not going to rant explainnig why i liked the movie but know this I was well made and of all sci-fi movies I actually quite liked it. First if you have great imagination and suspension of disbelief you will like this movie if you do not then you wont. Second the situations that characters were placed in I thought was good, it wasnt your standard hulking marines that although armed to the teeth usually dont know how to use their weaponry, real people trieng to save them selves and understand what is going on. Thats my take on it, I usually agree with you but not this time. You still rock though Spoony.

oh by the way this goes out to people who said that they thought this was a “Dead Space” movie deal. It’s not but there is a dead space movie schedulled to be in the works for 2010-11. For those who keep saying they are not going to see the movie because Spoony said it sucks or the trailers suck, go out and see the movie for your self before you start bashing it. Drag me to hell was a good movie with a shitty ending that ruined the experience and I diss agreed with Spoony then but still saw it and had fun with it. Cant wait for the Dead Space movie, if they have a good director and script then it should work.

What pisses me off of the movie is that it ended up being a survival horror film (might of made a fun game thought) i was hoping to see more of the “pendorum” not monsters. if they worked more on the madness factor it would be a better movie in my opinion

Great review. I also got talked into seeing this opening day, mainly because it was the only movie showing at 10:20 at night;Damn Christian movie festival. The point where I yelled “come on” in a crowded,yes this was crowded because that’s the time when people get “high” and watch movies, theater was the explanation of the “evolutionized” human taken directly from Serenity. I agree completely with some of the comments,if they focused on the “pandorum” aspect, hence the name of the movie, and not take the crew being hunted by some beasties, the movie could have succeeded.

I don’t know much about it, but it sounds like a super cheesy film, and seems worth the £5 cinema fee just to take a look at the rancid, half baked shit that seems to get passed off for good films recently.
Films like Event Horizon and Sunshine seem to be the norm for sci-fi in recent years, and me and a group of others can’t help but want to go take the piss.

I fucking hated The Descent.
All the potential it had was lost when they introduced the fucking Goblins from Moria.
It could have been an awesome psychological horror.

Don’t diss on Event Horizon, it was the shit!

#1) Dennis Quaid Is Office Gallo. Dennis Quaid has Pandorum.
#2) Cryo Sleep Causes Amnesia… therfore Dennis quaid has no memory of being nuts (pandorum), earth Exploding, murdering people etc and as his mind slowly comes back together in the form of Gallo. He eventually recovers his full mind and Joins with Gallo who was obviously just a piece of his mind.

#3) the worst part of the movie is when the Reaver throws the agriculture guy a spear in order to fight… un necessary and lame.

#4) No one remembers because of cryo amnesia, so they dont remember they are humanity’s last best hope.

Actually, as far as I could tell from the story, the colonists knew what the ship was, but extended hypersleep causes some loss of memory, and the mutagen in the feeding tubes was always part of the plan. The people who have transformed have been awake for an indeterminate amount of time and through successive generations have adapted to the ship’s environment. And Dennis Quaid can’t really bash the shit out of a figment of his own imagination, can he? It wasn’t a great movie, but it was far from bad. It didn’t bring anything truly innovative or original to the sci-fi horror genre, but how many movies these days actually do, for any genre? And the comparison to The Descent, well, come on, even the Germans are allowed to rip off their own shit once in awhile.

Lousy movie this one. I have to say i’m in full agreement. It brings nothing new to the table. When I saw Aliens for the first time (age 12 I think) I nearly shit myself and have thought that movie to be one of the best Sci Fi horrors out there. This movie doesn’t even deserve the title of Sci Fi horror, It more of that Gore/Torture porn shit that people keep eating up with the SAW movies and whatnot. It’s a complete waste of film stock and time.

On the bright side…It wasn’t as bad as Transformers 2. That movie STILL makes my blood boil…

Hey Spoony. I know you think you’re going to get heat for not liking this movie, but I haven’t even heard of this movie. Plus your opinion is just that: your own opinion. What I was more curious about is why Event Horizon is so horrible? I read Moses’ box office bomb thread and he complimented the atmosphere of the movie. Personally Event Horizon is special to me because it’s one of the few movies to have actually given me nightmares when I saw it (I was 12).

So in the genera of ‘claustrophobic horror movie’, what movie would you recommend to see most? Serenity/Firefly or Alien or what?

I think you are being alittle too harsh on this movie, I just watched it last night and it was nowhere near as bad as you make it out to be. I agree you won’t see it winning an oscar BUT, You say they mention Pandorum like once, even though it is a major theme through out the movie and contributes to the twist ending majorly. The monsters do kind of resemble the monsters from Descent but how else would a creature evolve in an almost lightless environment? Plus the monsters do have variation. Plus the naked dude( I forget his name) Doesn’t spend the whole movie saying “your all gonna die” He shows up like past half way and he slowly gets more hostile till the point where he says they should all evauate while they still can. I know this is a comedy site and you feel the need to bash things for comedy but atleast pay attention to the movie before you make a review.

I haven’t had a chance to see the movie yet but I was kind of bummed to see yet another spaceship in a sci-fi horror movie that looked so dark and uninhabitable. That really is such a cliche now.

Eh, I thought Event Horizon was a tolerable, interesting two star affair. Haven’t seen Pandorum yet…but this has definitely put it on my “avoid paying money to see it” list.

That aside, if you have a head cold that comes and goes like that, man….you should probably go see a doctor (or a free clinic) and get some antibiotics. The long term and coming and going stuff is a telltale sign of a stubborn bacterial infection.

You didn’t get the movie. The monsters where real. They where always real. It was just in the end where the protagonist where starting to get hallucinations from pandorum in that ONE SCENE. Up until that point the monsters where always real. And after that they where still real, like when they where escaping the ship in a pod and one of the monsters presses its face against the glass. There where sientific proof (atleast in the movies own sense) that there where monsters, there was all that gore in the puddle they where standing in. If you are actually right and the monsters never existed, that makes this movie even dumber!

Come on guys… monsters were real, quaid had some fight club hallucination while he was getting his memory back from cryosleep, quaid made the monsters before he went to sleep. movie was really really just ok…. go see Zombieland instead.

Im not aware if this has been brought up before in the comments, but i should mention this movie has the dubious honour of being evidently heavily based in Metamorphosis Alpha, the first science fiction pen and paper RPG ever. Go ahead and check it out, its an ancient role playing game (related to the more popular Gamma World) and has a similar premise to this movie.

I must say this. Pandorum is not a sci-fi horror movie. Its a Call of Cthulhu campaign in space, that got turned into a movie. also the crazy guy that killed the flight-crew, was denis quade. he puts the crazy guy in the pod, mutes the sound-system, but can still hear him, then the pod ‘explodes’ he tries to drug him, and then it just shows him laying there, having drugged himself. The crazy guy was a hallucination, he had pandorum, which isn’t so much ‘space madness’ as much as it is feeling like you are the last of humanity, because of a lack of contact with earth. also the ‘twist’ at the end of where the ship actually was, I about shat myself. they open the windows and its all just black with no stars. and they made SUCH a point to show how shiney white and new the ship was, and then how it is for the rest of the movie its like “did they… drift… until the stars burnt out?…..”

As far as ‘good sci-fi horror’ goes. this is NOT one, but in terms of getting ideas for running any cthulhu or sci-fi, or generally horror tabletop RPG… well thats where this movie *finally* shines. Just figured i needed to say that, and since your the only one i’ve seen who’s reviewed it…. well… there’s my 2 cents.

I saw the trailer and thought this was going to be a crap–>mediocre movie. Guess I was right wahey!

I thought that Event Horizon was the business, scarry with good actors, and a fine soundtrack from the prodigy no less (if memory serves).
I do agree that in parts it made no sense , this was chiefly due to the movie being heavily edited prior to release, or so the story goes.
If anyone knows where there is an uncut version that would be cool (please note the special edition DVD is still the version you saw in cinemas).

I havent seen the movie, but from what you described….it sounds like a Sci Fi channel Sat morning movie. Oh shit sir ya wanna talk “no inspiration no inovation” look up Cyprus Hills Cyprus sumthin studios. They have such masterpieces as Spacehunter, and Metalstorm the destruction of Jared Syn, and Ice Pirates. Talk about crazy 80s Sci Fi on a Sat morn. You will love them. That studio had a thing for Mad Max films and tricked out every all terrain vehicle with crazy accesories same as Mad max. Was to funny to watch. I still love Yor! That was awesome to see someone review something from our youth. Spoony you are the man!

i saw the movie just too see really what i could see about pandorm and well your not exactly right about no one having pandorm the movie isn’t bad but it’s far from good alot of cliches in there that make you cringe like that the main nest of these “evlolved humans.” was in the reactor i mean i know you have to make this tense by making it seem like there is no way to do this but i mean come on there has to be a better way to do that. and the ending was pretty predictable when they opened up the panels and there was no stars i was like what the hell there is no way they over shot tinus and like landed at the end of the universe they must have landed somehow.

there is also alot of rip off moments from better movies like aliens and a few other sci-fi movies but i forgot what those movies were it’s just eye roll worthy thus way the movie wasn’t great. but it did keep the tension going rather well i was on the edge of my seat a few times in the movie which is rare cause i don’t get that tense during most sci-fi lately,

so i’d say see it again in dvd or something when you well you may have a slightly different review to give but again you mention i nthe video that nobody seems to have pandorum and yet they do.

All i have to say about that file is that Dennis Quade is… Aniken Skywalker… yeah

Lol you've totally failed to understand the movie (not saying that they did a very good job of getting the point across). Everyone in the movie HAS pandorum, just different stages. This is why, if you catch it…at the end of the movie where the girl and bower get into the pod (none of the “reevers” could've got to the bridge because it was closed) yet one still comes to stop them from leaving. As this happens bower says “do you see that” and the girl says “fuck him” in reference to Gallo….EVEN THOUGH bower sees another one of the monsters. Then again, I'm not positive of this…but there are several hints throughout the movie pointing to the monsters not being real. Such as gallow (payton) not having any knowledge of the monsters AND not saying anything about seeing them. Also before working together the girl and the asain guy continuously fight one another AND move much like the monsters do (could they just be at an earlier stage of pandorum?)

Event Horizon's main redeeming feature is its appeal to Warhammer players who like Chaos in general, since it is essentially Space hulk: Chaos rising.
Pandorum's redeeming feature is the Giger style posters and some of the equipment.
People simply can't make good crazy anymore.
Hannibal did hypersanity perfectly, and psychosis was done brilliantly in dead man's shoes and taxi driver.
Pandorum crosses the line of so bad it's good into so bad it's horrible.

I have to say I did like it…

in it’s stance it reminds me of independence day.
just another movie in the genre that’s generic and just kinda… there.
you know, a pop corn movie that just shows up and shows you a copy of other movies.
