Wow, another game review I somehow missed, I must have been slacking.
I really have to say, this looks darn interesting and I'm excited to hear about the simplified controls. I love the RE series but usually have to play in tandem with someone because my coordination bites big time. (seriously I can't even drive a car it's that bad…) so with the chance of being able to play my own horror game that's a huge plus for me.
Decent voice acting for the little we saw.
I was surprised that the first thing you showed us was the opening cinematic (I think it was anyway). It's got me completely hooked. Thanks for showing us the game without the spoilers :)
Thinking about what you said in regards to controls and horror games, I've never understood that argument. All it is is the most egregious form of “fake difficulty”, and ultimately an immersion breaking producer of “gameplay panic”, a feeling I find distinct from “in universe panic”. And, because it is such an immersion breaking way of creating it, I'm ripped out of the world slightly and ultimately feel a great deal less frightened.
Ok, I've been hearing this for years and I just can not get it. What do people find so hard about Resident Evil controls? I played those games avidly since the day of the release of Resident Evil 1 and I never *ever* had a single issue or problem with the controls. They don't feel stiff to me, they don't feel clunky, nothing.
i never played it but i know it did the MGS when your fighting praying mantis were it says your mem card cant be read and it and the screen goes black and says video 2
I bought this on it's release day, all thanks to IGN's raving articles leading up to the game's launch, in 2002. Like Spoony, this is the game that made me pick up a Gamecube (that and Resident Evil Remake). At the time, I wasn't at all familiar with H.P. Lovecraft's work and had no interest in reading it… until I played that game. After learning that the game was heavily inspired by Lovecraft, I went to the library and read all I could find written by him. So, I owe Eternal Darkness for my love (forgive the pun) of “Lovecraftian” literature. It turns out that ED only sold about a quarter million copies, which is a crying shame considered the controls were indeed far superior than that of the entire RE series.
I've lent my copy to a friend of mine who still hasn't returned it in almost a year! Time to pick up the phone;)
I agree and RE was much more about running than fighting. Eternal Darkness was much more like Survival Horror games of today with much more killing and a lot less evading. The control scheme reflects that.
I played this game too, and loved it. It wasnt really scary, as it was a huge mind fuck, with all the hallucinations your characters have from there sanity meters. Long to play this game again.
I will counter your sheer love of this game with one minor irritation- that fecking scene when the Mayan girl’s dagger breaks and all you have is a freaking BLOWGUN to defend you AND the only one who can fix your dagger and they just. DON’T. DIE! But maybe that was intended :P Frustrating, nonetheless, but otherwise, yes, an immersive and scary game.
Other M is the worst, most plodding, self-important piece of shit game of the year. Calling it. So it is twittered. So is it done.about 8 hours agofrom TweetDeck
Bah! I'll be too loaded with camera equipment to bring any awesome games with me to PAX.about 9 hours agofrom TweetDeck
For further context, even my brother thinks I'm out of my mind for liking it.about 16 hours agofrom TweetDeck
Once again I have to disagree with @thecinemasnob and the rest of the world. I thought the ending to The Last Exorcism was brilliant.about 16 hours agofrom TweetDeck

I would say that Shadow of the Colossus is a work of art as well.
RE's control scheme is easy to use once you get used to it.

*deleted for inadvertent duplication*
This isn't a game for anyone who has a phobia about bugs. The maggots in the intro freaked me out.
The rest of the game looks fascinating, though.
the 1700's guy is porkens from starwars!
I now from somebody that an Eternal Darkness sequel may be in the works, but that's the extent of my knowledge.
Ha ha! Wii.
Ha ha! Wii.
not sure if you still follow this crap, but a let’s play of this game would be fucking ARRsome, especially since it’s so fucking hard to find
