The Spoony Experiment

Mynew32 Halloween Special 2009

by Spoony on October 31, 2009 · View Comments

Doctor Insano recently appeared on television, attempting to take over the world during Green Bay’s Mynew32 Halloween Special airing of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Host and creator Josh Hadley has kindly pointed me to the footage of the host segments, played to lead in and out of the movie during commercial breaks. Look for special guest stars Bill Mosely, Mr. Lobo, Ivonna Cadaver, and Tony Todd!

As for me, I feel like I let Josh down a bit. The sound during my segments is even more tinny and “roomish” than I remembered, and it’s totally my fault. This was recorded around the same time I was still struggling with my old camera and getting my new HD camera in order, so I was still forced to record with the crummy onboard microphone.

Aw, dude, I’m from that area! I could have seen this!

Inamidato November 1, 2009 at 10:14 am

Taking over the world using Twilight? It’s already happening…

…and a pony!

McFisticuffs November 1, 2009 at 10:16 am

The roominess almost makes it better, like Dr. Insano is trying to be a super-evil overlord and can’t even get better acoustics than Mrs. Insano’s basement.

Lieutenant Fish November 1, 2009 at 10:16 am

Don’t feel bad, your segment was fine.

coyoterys November 1, 2009 at 10:23 am

Congrats man! That’s gotta be pretty exciting to see your work on TV. You’re on your way, man. Way to go.

Bluecho November 1, 2009 at 10:28 am

Spoony, you have taken the first step towards world popularity. You have appeared on television, however briefly. Nothing can stop you now. Go for the gold!

Andrew Michael November 1, 2009 at 10:32 am

Nah, better for Spoony to be a cult figure IMO…

Juan November 1, 2009 at 10:42 am

Was that Mike Knox?

AMDfreak November 1, 2009 at 10:44 am

I gotta agree Spoony, this is the first step to world domination! … err i mean popularity.

Ray November 1, 2009 at 10:58 am

I agree with what others have said…the sound quality makes it more charming and ironic…good stuff, man. I may be biased, but your bit was definitely the highlight of that collection (i.e. the funniest). Congrats on the TV spot…you deserve your own show, and one day it will happen…keep it up!

No offense to the people involved who made this public access show but this whole thing sucked with the exception of Dr. Insano. The Twilight bit was funny all due thanks to Spoony. The rest, however, was boring.

Chuck Norris November 1, 2009 at 11:36 am

Everything else but Spoony sucked

thedeadpool November 1, 2009 at 11:44 am

I liked that but you where the highlight of that whole thing,

Chris m November 1, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Spoony, awesome appearance. I’m amazed that now one of my favorite internet personalities is tied to my local news station. What an amazing coincidence

Jordi November 1, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Spoony, you made me laugh so hard. Don’t even doubt you did a good job! Sound quality made it ironic :)

eXtreme November 1, 2009 at 12:11 pm

YAY Insano!!!!!
yeah i know im gonna write the same stuff as the most other ppl. but ive got to say: its really cool to see the Spoony one on tele..
Thats the way Spoony!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TTL November 1, 2009 at 12:52 pm

I don’t know, I felt this was well worth watching all the way though. Sure, Insano was probably the strongest performance, but I tend to believe I have a decent eye for potential and this wasn’t bad. I wish we had something like this around where I live.

. . . Then again, maybe we do. :P I can’t exactly back that statement up.

Odin the small November 1, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Bravo sir,

Your utters have made me shat my pants with mirth

continue the good work.

Altoman5 November 1, 2009 at 1:04 pm

That’s awesome, Spoony! First, it’s Arizona, then the U.S., then the ENTIRE WORLD!

SyrusRayne November 1, 2009 at 1:08 pm

You were the best part of that. Also, you definitely seemed the most enthusiastic, but I suppose I’m biased. Insano ALWAYS sounds enthusiastic to me.

Aaron M November 1, 2009 at 1:13 pm

Dude, camera/mic issues aside probably the best reason to tune into see that movie. I didn’t find the sound to be an Issue, I think it actually ADDED more to it personally. Awesome work as always! =3

MaSQuE November 1, 2009 at 1:21 pm

I honestly don’t know who that host was, what’s his specialty, or whatever his point is.
But this video showcased some of the most boring and uninspired host segments I’ve ever seen in my life. That guy’s basically flubbing two thirds of his line, and barely capable of delivering the other third.
Thank god he got talent to spice it up near the end, because his shtick is just cringeworthy.

(Well, the good part about this is that Insano managed to upstage with unsettling ease. Congrats. :D)

JS Wooten November 1, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Spoony, the sound worked within the concept of the show, and you sighting Amazon for Insano’s reasoning is hilarious; Good stuff man. Very good stuff.

Teh Jrn November 1, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Did anyone else catch the awesome “There Will Be Brawl” reference that they did about half way through? I didn’t see anyone say anything about it in the posts above so I may have been the only one that caught it. As far as I know, that is what he was referencing. It was the part where he says that he can’t read the words on the teleprompter and then they tell him there are words there. Then he gets pissed and just says, “ Fuck it! We’ll do it live!” I thought it was funny that they actually went out of their way to do that scene. I was wondering if anyone else noticed that.

On Target November 1, 2009 at 1:40 pm

The Dr. Insano clip was the only worthwhile thing in that whole video.

mrwednesdaynight November 1, 2009 at 1:48 pm

You did just fine. It seems like they didnt work with your material, edit or write their side of it properly. It was a bit of a reserved performance but fine for people who aren’t in the know. What I would like to know is if this performance paid off? Have you experienced increased traffic since your regional tv appearance? I tell everyone who will listen about the site. I hope this appearance is the start of good things.

CaptainFreetime November 1, 2009 at 1:50 pm

I for one welcome Insano as my new supreme ruler.

Awesome work, here’s hoping you get another break on TV!

Standz November 1, 2009 at 2:10 pm

Awsome Spoon man :)) !

Yes, i hope as well that you will be seen in TV more often :) , wuld be great to see you in that dudes place( he’s ok, but you wuld be more fiting as a Dr. Insano :D ) . Everything was great, but i found it not as funny, as i thought it wuld be…i gues i know the reason – NOT THAT MANY DEATH CURSES :D (just joking, it was great)!
You deserve to have TV spotlight, good luck !!!

Taylor November 1, 2009 at 2:19 pm

the whole Dr. Insano bit was BY FAR the best part

bob November 1, 2009 at 2:27 pm

You have GOT to stop the dr insano stuff dude… it’s not funny, at all, and it’s far far too cabaret cheesy for anything serious. If you insist on doing it at all, keep it to your website, but i’m telling you man, it’s awful.

Cyrus November 1, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Quiet down Bob. Keep it up Spoony, the Insano bit was the best part of all that footage. Insano should get his own spin off series.

luigi November 1, 2009 at 2:42 pm

Good job spoony maybe Its the start of a acting career

64bitgamer November 1, 2009 at 2:47 pm

You were definitely the funniest part of the proceedings. The main host didn’t really do anything except complain, and then you bust out with a character that has personality and screen presence. There was a slight problem with your audio, but it wasn’t any worse that the show’s all around low quality. Besides, its always nice to see your work gaining you some amount of success and fame. Great work.

SignNinja November 1, 2009 at 3:01 pm

You know I used to catch that late night show every so often when I was stationed up in Great Lakes. I loved it so much, and kind of miss it being here on the west coast now. Anyhow, a remake of Plan 9 From Outer Space? Really? Well I guess reverse logic works this way, if someone remakes a good movie it turns to utter shit, so if someone remakes an utter shit movie it’ll turn out good?

SignNinja November 1, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Oh quick thing to 82, you seem to be the only one who thinks that if he’s able to bring Dr. Insano on TV. They don’t ask just anybody to do crap like that, he has become a staple on the internet as the universal villain….except for trolls like you. So yeah, Dr. Insano is awesome and we all love him, who cares if you don’t.

Onlythird November 1, 2009 at 3:21 pm

Deff the best one on there, and your part fitted in nicely without being too off-subject, I must admit its not the best of your work by any stretch but since the host was pretty awful, you stole the spotlight for the moment. Congratulations, I hope that your recieve more traffic from this to fuel your spoony empire.

FFX November 1, 2009 at 3:30 pm

NICE, on tv, that rocks

Jack November 1, 2009 at 4:06 pm

Iwould have shit if Spoony appeared ion my tv.

Great work, man!

MJ November 1, 2009 at 4:08 pm

Holy Shit! Spoony was TV on a Green Bay channel!! I’m from Wisconsin. That is just epic to see that. Way to go, dude!

paradeus November 1, 2009 at 4:13 pm

Don’t be so hard on yourself! The sound was fine and your segment very entertaining!
So, keep it up and spread your name! Go Spoony!

booshwa November 1, 2009 at 4:15 pm

Awesome Spoony, I don’t have TV but now people will know the power of Dr. Insano both on the computer and the television!

smeghead November 1, 2009 at 4:18 pm

I expected him to take over the world, but instead Dr. Insano has taken over your TV…with SCIENCE~!

I did notice a difference in the audio, but it wasn’t really that bad. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Sleeplessmind November 1, 2009 at 4:26 pm

Wow i was actually watching this and had to leave. To go to some party and if I would have stayed i could have seen spoony and would have shit bricks. Now I regret going to that boring party.

OniYouji November 1, 2009 at 4:29 pm

Dammit! Why can’t I get special geek-targeted showings of films like this!? Bram Stoker’s Dracula with references to a Plan 9 remake, Godzilla theme, Castlevania AND le Spoony One as Dr. INSANO!!!???

FML.

diggerjohn111 November 1, 2009 at 4:33 pm

That was great! I didn’t really notice the sound, if anything it added to Dr. Insano’s ineptness. I loved the Blockbuster sticker on the Twilight DVD. Sparkly vampires taking over the world? Between the lameness of Transformers, Harry Potter and Twilight, I think someone beat ole Insano to the punch . That host was also pretty funny, I wish we had that show up here.

Lotus Prince November 1, 2009 at 5:09 pm

My favorite part was your entrance, just because you were raving and giving your grand entrance speech in the background while the host was describing who you are. Fantastic!

Epic Cardboard November 1, 2009 at 6:02 pm

Fuck the haters, Spoony. Dr. Insano is fantastic.

kfizz November 1, 2009 at 6:35 pm

Dam I would not mind to have ivan as a mail order bride. Great ending music Castlevania always rocks plus it is the metal re recored album from japan. Plus it is fitting since I am watching Bram stoker’s Dracula on hulu and it rocks.

Quantum Joker November 1, 2009 at 6:43 pm

The Doctor Insano segment was quite amusing but poorly structured, and seemed to lose its way toward the end of the sketch. Even so, this TV appearance marks Spoony’s first notable venture into mass media, and may summon further opportunities for him in show-business.
From this promising start, I wish Spoony the best of luck.

I should also add that my favorite part of this video would have been the ‘torn Chroma key’ sketch.
