  • I actually do like your idea of creating storylines spanning across several reviews (which I think we got a nice taste of with Final Fantasy VIII), but it comes with the problem of not being easily accessible to new viewers, or even being confusing to veterans if we go back and watch one, wondering where the story is. Maybe you could start creating subsections of story-arcs in your Game Reviews section or your sidebar. You could string handfuls of reviews together in the future with stories and put them all in their own category. Might be too restrictive though, I dunno. This review is definitely a great example of what can happen when one does too much planning, but it turned out well enough considering the setbacks.

    Thanks for the commentary track!
  • The line that cracked me up the most is when you said "I still feel dirty like I paid to have sex with a monkey, A Dude Monkey." lmao!

One of your worst reviews? No, this is seriously one of your best reviews Spoony.
One reason beeing that you took something so godawful and made it so damm funny, thats your best point btw.

Don't lose heart over this, its awsome.
  • Just to make a quick comment, I think your at your best when your trying to act psychotic and bewildered. And here's one question, does this mean we won't see the SpoonyBum anymore? I mean I know he isn't the strongest character, but he's still so adorably bad that I think we'd miss him!

Just wanted to point out something about the bad green screen job.
You could've just as well created a matte out of the luminance values, Linkara was a lot darker than the brighter green.
    You would've gotten better results.
  • theSnark
Glad you're ok, Spoony. I've been showing everyone I know your review, it's so hilarious!

If you hate Voyager, or really any other bad Star Trek episode, checkout sfdebris on youtube.

The series picked up in series 3

However there is some pretty good episodes in the first two seasons. The dialog and the characters were pretty good but only handicap by poor plot ideas and not taking advantages of the unique aspect of DS9 (not taking advantage of overarching themes, having standalone episodes and having TNG copycat episodes).

Also series one despite its relative poor standard. "Duet" is probably one of the best Star Trek episode of all time and it will be a disservice to skip that episode in watching DS9 series as it's definitely in DS9 top ten episode and it's also in my top 5 episodes of the entire Trek series of all time.
  • Soleil's breasts were indeed fairly large, but I don't believe the "36DD" measurements for a second, those things were Hs, maybe double or even triple. 36DD is bigger than average, but hardly huge, and certainly not of the proportions SMF was at. In any case, though part of my male chauvinist pig's heart cries out at the loss of those magnificent breasts, it's her choice at the end, and it's a shame people just can't respect it without making bad tit jokes.

Besides, not the end of the world. I've always got my beloved Milena Velba, Merilyn Sakova, Jana Defi, Rachel Aldana, Fuko, Hitomi Tanaka, Chloe Vevrier, Taylor Stevens, Christy Marks, Karina Hart, Michelle Monaghan, Lorna Morgan, Julia Nova, Maria Magdalena, Julia Sonnet, Ines Cudna, Nelli Roono, Bea Flora, Angela White, Nicole Peters...

(man, I totally have to turn in my Linkara Feminist Club membership card now...)
  • what? did nobody point out that the sheriff was also Kirsty's father in Hellraiser?
  • Mr.Stillman
Ugh. Deep Space 9 had no charismatic characters at all. That imposing bald black man just saying "The DEFIANT" in his low voice really ruined it for me. Also, there were way too many aliens such that it was a big freak show of hideus beings. Just a really dark, gloomy depressing show.

Voyager: WAY too sissy. Maybe Star Trek Ethics would be a better title for that series. I recall many many episodes where the holodeck nearly cost everyone their lives. After about the fouth time you'de think they'd take a slege hammer to the holodeck to prevent further problems.

I'd like to see what Spoony thinks of Adromena or whatever it was called. That has got to be one of the worst shows ever. The "heroes" just go around slaughtering people.

I find DS9 to be the best science fiction series I have ever watched. You really need to watch the whole series. It builds up year after year, but the first two seasons drag because there are a lot of random science fiction episodes. Ds9 was at its best durings Seasons 1-2 when it focused on the characters and their backstories, not with the random episodes. Once the actual plot begins with the Dominion, and especially once Worf joins the cast, Ds9 is fantastic.Ds9 just ends well, much better than B5. Of course, Babylon 5 Seasons 2 -4 is some of the best science fiction I have ever watched, but the ending Season 5 drags, and like DS9 the first season is rough to watch. The thing about Ds9 is that it takes the ending storyline of Next Generation dealing with the Cardassians and the Bajorians and builds on that foundation. To me it felt like a continuation of a great show.By the way, Babylon 5 is the second best.

Voyager and Enterprise are simply torture. The biggest selling point of Voyager is Seven of Nine, and Enterprise, is Tupol. Voyager is by far the most incompentent crew of Starfleet and Enterprise deals so much with time travel that it even makes shows like Lost and Heroes seem subtle with time travel and they use time travel all the time. Rubbish.

Voyager wasn't that bad... and Enterprise Seasons 3 and 4 were pretty good.
  • Trekkie313
I literally almost choked to death on pizza when Spoony talked about the kids driving with their lights off
  • The sheriff also played the dad in Clive Barker's first Hellraiser movie. He steals the show in the final scene of the movie: "Jesus wept..."
  • Discordius
Voyager is the only Star Trek movie I liked.
  • (`曲´)
Heh, when I watched the review I remember thinking to myself that Linkara's transparency was a neat effect. I never would have guessed it was a mistake.
  • 1gb/min HD footage? Spoony, you have bigger problems in Vegas than RAM. Try preprocessing the captured footage into MP4 or something. At full 1920x1080 29.97 (or 60i, and 1440x1080 1.33PAR is for suckers), you should be seeing around 13gb an hour, not 60. Unless you got a RED...which'd be awesome... You can also try turning off dynamic preview so it doesn't render into memory every single time you change one little thing. That's what kills us over here, when you have 4 hours lined up and then nudge the first segment to insert a title and kaboom!

    Cardassian barber?

    BARBER?!?

He's a tailor and spy-in-exile! He's one of the most complex, interesting, compelling, and best-acted characters in ALL OF STAR TREK! Not to mention that, at the end of the series, he probably gets THE shortest end of the post-war stick.

    Pff... barber...
  • TheGodEmperor
oh wait, my bad, you did get to it lol. Just got to the end (figured you'd have forgotten)
  • TheGodEmperor
I like voyager for just mindless entertainment lol, well a few episodes.. but I think the biggest thing that drew my attention at the time was big ol' boobs (aka Jeri Ryan). DS9 was great when it got into the war.

I will agree though, Babylon 5 is superior to Star Trek and FAR FAR better than that piece of stolen shit, Star Wars.

Btw, youu forgot to talk about Linkara and why the green screen screwed up lol :P

    @ Continuity

I appreciate the continuity in your reviews, for what it's worth. I like seeing how they all flow together and reference the past reviews - it doesn't severely detract if you haven't seen the others, but it adds to my enjoyment if I catch the references. Sort of like Terry Pratchett - you and he share a commonality that everything you do can be appreciated as a self-contained work, but if you watch/read in order, you also get to notice things others don't.
  • thehivemind33
About Lance, in 3 and 4 he is supposed to be a ghost because if you summon Pumpkinhead you can't go to heaven or hell and have to walk the earth forever or something like that.
I have been a fan of the first Pumpkinhead for years now. I was suprised to know you of all people hadn't heard of it. I was also suprised that you liked it. I was waiting for you to tear into it briefly but was happy you thought it was good. XD
    Awesome commentary btw!
  • meanmanturbo
Looks like some old Geanstealer picks stolen from some old 40K stuff at 4:55, space hulk maybe?. Games Workshop are extreamly protectove of their IP, so this game was obsure enough to escape their vigilant eyes;)
  • I always like hearing your commentaries, and I never thought you would go on a killing rampage, if you did, you would've killed the entire Psygnosis team after the Microcosm review

Like @33 Delthayre, I'm a fan of the structor/story you put into your videos. For example I'm a fan of Insano and loved some of the FFVIII videos where he had a big role. While there's nothing wrong wih the earlier ones (Samurai Zombie Nation is one of my favourite reviews so far), I enjoy seeing all your videos tie together. They add some icing to an already awesome cake.

However if you chose to cut back on it, so be it. Long as the rants are enjoyable and the jokes split my sides I'm happy.

Also great job bringing in Linkara and Benzaie. Without a doubt they're amoung my favourite talent on TGWTG.
  • Sai
Man the fact you took the problems and turned it into a hilarious rant is awesome, honestly sometimes I think you're at your best when you're bitching about the topic at hand XD

But man, the stolen good things, and the cigarette instantly killing you, did they think they were making this game for kids? That they had to put in consequences for stealing and smoking? I mean it's an R-rated movie, right!?

I'm glad you cut out the Black Hole thing, you don't really need continuity man, we don't care, even your Vlogs are great because you can just get in front of the camera and talk and still be interesting. But starting and ending anything is always hard, don't be too hard on yourself. Well be a little hard on yourself, creative people have to :P

I'm not a hardcore trekkie, but I love Voyager. :P
I prefer it over TNG, to be honest.
    My list goes:
    TOS
    Voy
    TNG
    Ent
    DS9

Not seen any others, but yeah. I thought I'd hate Voyager, but when I watched it, I got really into it. XD
  • I'm kinda a Trekkie and I liked DS9 - the cast is very good and Sisko is probably the most charismatic and bad-ass captain of them all. It started a bit slow and the last season (or two) were horrible but all in all it was far, FAR better than e.g. Voyager, which went back to the old starship formula (DS9 did too with the Defiant) but introduced a cast that was 100% unlikable (perhaps with the exception of the Doctor). DS9's main problem, I think, was that it had this meta story-arc, where previous shows only had singled out episodes and recurring themes here and there or multi-part episodes for some longer stories.

My Star Trek (series) list would look like that:

    1. The Next Generetion
    2. Star Trek: The Original Series (very slightly behind TNG - it just depends what you like - it's hilariously cheesy while TNG is quite deep and serious)
    3. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
    4. Star Trek: Enterprise (not far behind the rest - except for the title music and the last episode which shouldn't have been made since the previous ones were fine enough for a finale I actually liked it)
    6. Star Trek: The Animated Series (yes, I'm skipping 5, because it's really is TOO cheesy)
    893475983423984. Star Trek: Voyager

That's coming from a guy who has a life-sized cardboard Mr. Spock standing in his living room. ^^
  • Terran
"Oh, man, you’re fooling yourselves. Hardcore Trekkies are much more likely to hate Voyager and Enterprise than the average viewer. I know I have nothing but disdain for them for the most part. (Voyager has a number of great episodes, and you could put together one decent season out of four season’s worth of Enterprise episodes.)"

I agree with you where Enterprise is concerned. Why would a hardcore trekkie hate that more than an average viewer? Because Enterprise completely ignored/contradicted the existing canon. Everything about that series, with the exception of the fourth season, doesn't make sense when compared to the TOS/TNG/DS9/VOY timeline. That might have been excusable if Enterprise told interesting stories that attracted new fans, but it failed on both counts. It bombed and by the time they threw it to Coto for the fourth season, a guy who was actually interested in honoring the Star Trek canon while exploiting the prequel gimmick, the show was so unpopular that no one saw his work. Enterprise killed the Star Trek TV franchise and the original Star Trek timeline. How can trekkies not hate Enterprise for that?

Even if you didn't watch DS9, he's Sherriff Scorpio from Dirty Harry. COME ON
