It’s like the writers had seen a whole bunch of different anime shows and movies and just lifted a collage of scenes from each one they liked and spliced them together. I guess they got the “feel” of a space anime right, even if it makes no freaking sense.

Oh dear GOD…I thought i had completely escaped this demonic hellspawn disguised as a movie…sweet mother of Go Nagai this is one of (i’ll explain that) the absolute worst things i’ve ever seen to come in a dvd case. It plunges depths of rip-off-ery previously unknown to anyone…even bruno mattei has more shame

I say one of because this is actually only one of like 12 or so of these terrible dark creatures masquerading as films produced by joseph lai…well, not really…see, joseph lai himself isn’t even real, it’s just one of many fake names used by a couple of dudes who have made a career of importing these godawful korean pseudo anime’s (and an assload of poorly dubbed kung fu films) for like 2 decades. the space thunderkids is one of the ones that combines random shots of their other releases…but they alll kinda do that…it’s hard to explain…like trying to transcribe the plot of this movie, it’s nearly impossible.

ok, lemme try. “joseph lai” or the people traveling under that banner (ironic…joseph lai…is a lie…heh) farmed out to a bunch of cheap korean animation studios to basically just rip off everything from transformers,to TRON to getta robo to gundam to Giant robo to Mazinger Z (yeah actually, that’s the robots real name, believe it or not, “mazinga 7″ is actually the name that ripoff robot that looks just like mazinger Z is called in I think “protectors of universe” (yes the grammer is that bad…ON THE COVER) so the black one is actually ripping off themselves with the white one that ripped off Mazinger Z!!! god my head hurts…)

they then in turn took this footage that was made using these cheap non union equivelant knock offs and produced what was probably three or four movies worth of uh…let’s call it ‘footage”. THEN they took all that stuff they made, chopped it up, and repackaged it into like 4 more movies…THEN they took those chopped up movies, chopped them up even MORE and then filled in the gaps with stuff stolen from other unused knock offs (much like the frog dna filling in the gaps in jurassic park, with the same disastrous results, i think) and released the abomination you actually sat through. i don’t even know how deluded that makes this final cut, but if we were talking xerox copy degeneration, the page would be blank by now

though i must admit, i completely agree on that “OWNED” shot almost saving the film. my brother and i watched this and some parts of 2 or 3 more before we realized they were all the same movie recut (he has a sick disease that makes him NEED to see anything with a giant robot in it…and i have a sick disease that forces me to…let him and not turn it off…and even HE could not take this) and that scene where mazinga 7…or starmech 1…or uh…hell, might as well call him larry for all the difference it makes, is crushing all those blue guys, he so completely tears ass on them that it prompted us to say then and for weeks following “I see blue skin and i kill the man wearing it!!!” in our best kurt russell

though one more thing, even THAT the wonder that is punching blue dudes with a giant fist is ripped off of something else. there is an ultraman animated film from the early 80′s that frankly sucked but has it’s own kind of charm, particularly ultraman being uncharacteristaclly brutal to the alien invaders and it features not one but two awesome scenes where one, ultraman transforms while being stuffed in some kind of brainwashing pod, and his rapidly growing fist bursts out of the sides and flattens an evil alien against the wall (awesome) and later, he lays seige to the big bad alien conqueror dude’s fortress and when the bad guy smarts off to him and won’t release his hostages, ultraman PUNCHES THE DUDE WITH HIS 20 FOOT FIST!!! (double awesome) this too makes that movie, the same way OWNED made this one

Dear lord. This monstrosity just takes scenes from other cartoons and mashes them together. I recongnize some of them.
The red firetruck robot is from a completley different cartoon who’s name I can’t recall.
The mazinger look-a-like that punches ships is from another cartoon that has a space train attached to the robots ass.
By all that is holy…this is insane!

As for the review – Bennett suffered from cue-card syndrome in that he sounds horribly forced, literally reciting his lines. Spoony’s involvement saved it, really.

That was really very excellent. I feel as though I should consult a neurosurgeon after having seen even just parts of “Space Thunder Kids”, but I enjoyed the review all the same, gelatinized cerebral cortex or not.

I think that one can find an even duller space battle in an obscure and awful Italian science-fiction film entitled “War of the Robots”. Said battle is nothing more than several minutes of looped footage of space ships that ends when a caveman wearing a pubic-hair cloak and a loin cloth devises a winning strategy.

The Spoony One looked very at ease saying all of those names of anime series and characters, which impressed me because I don’t imagine that he’s in fact an aficionado himself.

I saw the trailer for this on Walrusguy’s profile on YouTube for some reason one of the actors voices reminds me of Trey Parker from South Park especially with the way he does the big speeches. I actually thought Doug would have done this for a future NC episode but Spoony doing this was even better, great job.

I actually own the movie that they ripped the transformer knockoff from. Its bad, but not nearly as bad as this, besides the fact it claims that some kind of phoenix god was reincarnated as a giant robot THAT TURNS INTO A FIRE TRUCK!.

I don’t think that’s necessary, since Space Thunder Kids steals from that film the most memorable part of either film: the shot of alien getting punched by the giant robot fist.

Looks like a load of stock footage from various Korean cartoons thrown together to make a cheap international release as funded by Joseph Lai. Also, I think the kid pilots in Gundam were because of Bandai’s executive control to make it appeal more to kids.

I guess that makes me one of the 3 people that knows what Daidenjin is. Awesome review by the way.

As insane as the movie is and as awesome Spoony is, Sage cant live up to that level of awesomeness. He suffers from the same problem that a number of personalities on TGWTG suffer from, and that is a primarily monotone voice. He is not great at saying a punchline, but is still better than a majority of those on TGWTG. However, the video is really well written and the cameos by other TGWTG crew was great. Even though Sage wasn’t as great as he could’ve been, it was a nice change of pace seeing a colab review with Spoony that didn’t have Linkara in it

I know someone else has probably already explained this, but I’m going to be a massive narcissist and assume I’m the only one.

Spoony, the reason the kids are the ones piloting the EVA in NGE is because there’s some weird effect on the minds and bodies of all people born after the Second Impact Cataclysm. Also, yes, NGE makes less and less sense as the series goes on. If you ever want to experience a massive mindfuck that will keep you awake for days, go rent the End of Evangelion movie. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, though.

I saw a review of space thunder kids from Walrusguy (very famous youtube pooper) and thought o myself, this really is the worst movie ever, he didn’t talk during the review or give much note of it however, the clips he chose was ridiculous enough. So it was really good to see a real review from you guys! I was going to request that Nostalgia critic was going to do a review of it, but now I see one of my other favorite do it, Spoony! I really like Sage too but I’m more liking him for the professional game reviews hes done, lately I have seen him doing ”funny stuff” too tough (things that don’t have as much professional value and more funny value)

After you started talking about the guy who directed this directing Zombie Vs Ninja, I looked him up on wikipiedia.
“[Godfrey Ho is]Sometimes considered the Ed Wood of Hong Kong cinema, he is best known for his Ninja films, a series of 1980s martial arts films made with a cut-and-paste technique. Ho would film footage for one film, and then edit and splice the shots together in a different order, often adding in footage from other films, and then dubbing over the result to create an (almost) coherent finished product. This allowed him to create four or five films with the budget of one, though it is often difficult to discern how much of the finished product he actually filmed himself.”

This explains a little why it’s so wildly incoherent(does not justify it though.), but more importantly. I discovered I have a movie with parts of this movie(specifically the Mazinger and first 2 or 3 crews), it’s called “Raiders of Space”. That is not a typo. Anyways, it’s about a dollar at amazon or wal-mart, if you ever want to do a follow-up review, I would suggest either that or “Space Transformers”.

i remember seeing a few of these scenes in a vhs tape i once owned but the movie is completely different there was no dark emperor but there was the fat chinese general and the tanks and a few mechs that i kid you not, fused together to make a giant camera which shot a giant flash of light destroying the tanks.
and on another movie it started like this one with the two guys talking while meteors pass by the window, i remember something about a girl related to the one being shown in the screen as being one of world’s leaders and the aliens method of attack is to again i kid you not, shrink an entire colony of their race and send it into her to either kill her or possess her i don’t remember, then earth’s countermeasure to this is to shrink kids and their mechs to wage war inside a woman’s body.

Nice cheap shots at Korea there, Spoony and Sage. If I wanted nonstop Korean-bashing I’d just go to Sankaku Complex.

Hell, I hate sounding like a prick, but why do you slum with these guys Spoony? If you did this review on your own it would have been tons better. The rest of these critics just tend to either over exaggerate or fail to show any emotion at all.

Funny Review Spoony I can indentify some of these scenes except from Gundam and Tron it has some scenes from Mazinger 7 and Super Mazinger 3

Pretty good review. I didn’t enjoy it as much as say “Strike Commando”, but still good. I’m really surprised they didn’t rant more about the BIZARRE facial expressions though. Maybe they just thought the expressions pretty much made fun of themselves.

This movie ripped off the corean Mazinga 7 (Mazinger 7) too, so I understand that it’s hard to tell witch one is witch.
The one with the “M” on its chest is Mazinga 3, while the white one with the guns on it’s chest is Mazinga 7.

Spoony, Spoony, Spoony…

If it opens with “IFD Films”, “Joseph Lai”, or says “Directed by Godfrey Ho” just take the tape/DVD out of the player and smash it with a hammer. Even if it’s a rental. Every movie Godfrey Ho was involved in was a paste-up like “Space Thunder Kids”, though this one is sort of “special” in that he used more than two films to make this lemon. Usually Ho was doing live action martial arts flicks where he shot inserts with white guys like Pierre Kirby to either reshape an existing movie or give it appeal to the Austrailian and South American film markets. Oddly enough, some of the male voices in “STK” sound a lot like Kirby’s voice! In fact, many of the voice actors in this sound like voice cast for a lot of the Godfrey Ho chop socky epics. But I’m getting off track…so we have low-budget Korean animation ripping of slightly better Japanese animation which is then sliced and diced into an 80 minute movie by Hong Kong film hacks. This, then, is what “Robotech” would have looked like had there been no quality control.

I loved this Reveiw, My favorite part was when spoony punched sage and saod nothing just wanted to hit ya,Priceless! Great reveiw Spoony we all love you!

Sorry for this being the second comment on this video, but get of sages back will ya, he haven’t done much of this ”funny acting” (I better know him for doing the best reviews ever) in front of a camera and he doesn’t do much of reading of a script… that Spoony obliviously wrote! So you could say hes kind of new at this kinda stuff, spoony was once new too, but if you fanboys would have sen that you obviosly would have said he was good because hes such a known and good actor in this kind of review now.

Sure I can’t say Sage is great at this, but I still like him over a lot of other guys on the internet and as I have said, he does in my opinion, the best game reviews ever. And really he isn’t really fat at all so stfu you perfectionists.
Despite of what some of the idiots here says, I’d like you spoony to make more reviews with him, this was great. But I can understand why Sage don’t want to do it again because of the idiots.
And btw, it would be great if you made a real video with angry joe (when he don’t just say one line), I don’t really like his reviews so much, but it would still be cool to see how it turned out. You have a real talent with working with other people.

Great review! usually when I see these kind of movie reviews I feel that you are being too harsh on the movie, but Space thunder Kids is really astronomically bad! I had never seen worse 2D animation it almost feels like a slide show!

As for kids piloting highly advanced machinery, come on Spoony, it's a cartoon. That's like me saying American comics are stupid as hell because Radiation gives powers, not life crippling cancer. Also, I liked the concept of kids as the heroes… as a kid, it was so awesome to see people around my age as the hero, not always some adult in tights, mind you I still love Spiderman, Batman, Superman and Wolverine.
