Again great commentary! I always love hearing what goes into your videos and the little anecdotes when you wander off into a story.Keep ‘em coming :DPS. Here in Holland you also have a law where you’re supposed to carry around Identification all the time. Though here it’s not so directed at illegals but more towards people who disturb the peace. And if you can’t provide an ID when a cop stops you they put you in jail for a couple hours. When they first introduced that law it caused a lot of trouble for people going out during the weekends. You’d have teens coming home after a night of drinking (which is legal here when you turn 16. Well beer at least. hard liquor from the age of 18) and cops would check them and they’d end up spending the night in jail. Nowadays people have gotten used to it I think.

    • http://www.facebook.com/ViperXX79 Thomas Lee Cook

See there’s a few misconceptions to the Arizona law. Someone has to commit a crime first before a cop can check for ID. They don’t have to carry around papers or anything, just a drivers license. You have to be a legal citizen to get one in the US. Cops can’t walk up to random people and start asking for “papers” like the media would have you believe.

      • Anonymous

That’s good. In Holland they can if they feel like it.. You HAVE TO carry around an ID here. Passport, European ID card, drivers license or other permit to stay.

        • Kvb

That’s not true, Nephilim. In the Netherlands you have to commit a crime as well (or at least be suspect of a specific crime in some way) before they can ask you for your ID. They can’t simply if they feel like it.

          • Anonymous

That’s why I said it’s aimed at people who disturb the peace. That apparently includes being rowdy after a night of drinking or just walking by a group of people who are fighting/rioting.
You do remember when the law came into effect right? All those news reports of kids ending up spending the night in jail just because they couldn’t produce an ID?

Yes it’s meant to ID people who commit crimes but in reality innocent people end up in trouble.
I’m not saying cops are assholes but the law is so vague apparently that even the slightest suspicion warrants a proof of ID.

      • Anonymous

Yeah considering our dopes in charge can’t even be bothered to read the 20 (give or take, I’ve heard various sizes) page bill, I don’t blame someone from another country for not knowing what the law states and what it calls for.

I always thought it’d be hilarious if they revealed Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was a prequel to Death of a Salesmen.

  • TheGrangeKiller

    Nice One Spooney!!!

Might have A Go At Reviewing My Self Thanks For The Inspiration If You Have Any Tips Can You Email Me? But If You Are Too Busy Thats Cool.

I’m guess I’m one of a rare few who never really liked Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.. so even knowing this review was a joke review, I just kind of dismissed that and took it a bit more seriously.

I dunno.. the movie was just insanely boring to me. I thought the principal was the best character. Ferris, Cameron, and that girl were just bad to me. Ugh. Ben Stein had the best scene with the whole in-class teaching part, but even that lost a bit of its charm with what it did do Ben Stein.

But yea.. horrible movie. Never understood the appeal of it at all, even when I was younger.
Great review and good commentary though.

L0L! Love this vid, one of my top 5 favorites! Best line: “This is were Cameron’s soul Snaps! Like a Twix bar (@u@)”

    Spooooony… Spooooony… Spooooony…

  • Kvb

Great video, Spoony. Your commentaries have seriously improved since your first batch.
I do enjoy the older commentaries, don’t get me wrong, but I prefer to hear more about what goes into making the reviews, whereas the older commentaries would sometimes just feel like a second review.

He said something about Final Fantasy 1 review? can anyone tell me where is it?
I searched the site and nothing :/

  • http://www.facebook.com/ObieWanCoyote Christopher Lash

I hate to say this, but with the way the economy is going and with 2 more years of “Change” on the horizon. I’d happily sign up to help with the Farris Bueller sequel… I kinda look and feel the part of one of the many people/professions you threw under the bus. Or at least my wallet reflects such.

I can handle the crazy maniacal cackling too (think back to the card tables of Jr & Sr High School, Bill the Pinapple king, Lurch, and that one guy who kept getting bitch slapped by Bill’s counterspells =p). It would be kinda nice to catch up with an old friend, who said he’d get back to me after finals… like six years ago =? I could really use a few tips for my own projects, duct tape and bubble gum doesn’t seem to quite do it, even for a Wing Commander series Let’s Play.

I swear, you do everything EXCEPT for Part 2 of the FFX review XD

I’m glad you haven’t dropped Dr. Insano. I think he would be worth keeping around even if you dialed back to merely using your voice with an accent. For some reason, I’m always happy when Dr Insano shows, lol.

  • Exp HP

Huh. I already saw this. Is this a re-upload?

  • Anonymous

Does someone know what music is in the intro sequence for this video ?

I thought it was Thomas Dolby – She Blinded Me With Science but Spoony’s version is much more catchier than the original.

    Or maybe I’m imagining things.

  • fatalrob0t

no. you can not be serious. The bill for Arizona does nothing that actually violates a citizen's rights. You have to have ID on your to drive and do things. I, in Texas, couldn't get even a library card until I finally got my driver's license. Legal–That is Legeal–immigrants need their papers on them all the time anyway. The Police aren't asking for anything more than what they should have on them already. By their very definition, Illegal Immigrants are Illegal and there is nothing wrong in making them go back home. They're Illegal. If they want to immigrate they need to do so Legally.

    God, I hate this bullshit.

  • Anonymous

Spoony I think the best way to explain the insano changes is hes kind of gone from more joker to more riddler or atleast thats how it always seemed to me. Not a bad thing at all I love them both but the riddler is a lot easier to play as a character but still has the opportunities for real madness like the joker. Loved the commentary and the actual video great as always man.

  • devilfish

There is a fan theory that proposes that this whole movie is all in Cameron's head. I think it's a very entertaining idea, if you think about it. Someone else said it better:

My favorite thought-piece about Ferris Bueller is the “Fight Club” theory, in which Ferris Bueller, the person, is just a figment of Cameron's imagination, like Tyler Durden, and Sloane is the girl Cameron secretly loves.

One day while he's lying sick in bed, Cameron lets “Ferris” steal his father's car and take the day off, and as Cameron wanders around the city, all of his interactions with Ferris and Sloane, and all the impossible hijinks, are all just played out in his head. This is part of the reason why the “three” characters can see so much of Chicago in less than one day — Cameron is alone, just imagining it all.

It isn't until he destroys the front of the car in a fugue state does he finally get a grip and decide to confront his father, after which he imagines a final, impossible escape for Ferris and a storybook happy ending for Sloane (“He's gonna marry me!”), the girl that Cameron knows he can never have.

  • Anonymous

You know, not necessarily related to this video, but it struck me as funny that you keep saying the fire boss in FFI (Kary) is weak to ice, when she’s not =p In fact, she resists ice. Just wanted to point that out.

  • Anonymous

I still subscribe to the theory that Cameron is hallucinating Ferris’ existence. It’s the only way that any of it makes a lick of sense.

I never realized Spoony's brother was a cop.

Shame to hear that the Doc will be getting less screentime, but I guess when you have a good bit you don't want to risk running it into the ground.

As a sidenote, I affected a Dr. Insano voice for a character in a D&D game recently, and let me assure you all, the man is not lying, that is AGONY to do for more than a couple minutes. I had to retire that NPC real fast.

  • http://smellslikegeekstink.blogspot.com Jenny
  • Solitair

-Dude, your brother's a cop? That's awesome! Except it's kind of diminished since this one guy I just read about in an interview is also training to be a cop (though not in Arizona). He's the author of this one godawful webcomic where two high school furries run an assisted suicide program, except it's a lot more like Jigsaw than Dr. Kevorkian. Everyone's an asshole, and the best part is that the client always, ALWAYS changes their mind at the last minute, only for them to go through with it anyway. I think El Santo of the Webcomics Overlook put it best: “Wow, it's like looking through the eyes of a SERIAL KILLER.” (And I'm following his example of not mentioning the disgusting thing by name, denying it as much publicity as I can.) I really don't know what I expect from the author of that demented shit being on any sort of law enforcement organization.

-I believe that Cracked.com ran a list of alternate interpretations that improved some stories, like Zion being a part of the Matrix and so on, and one of them was that FBDO was all in Cameron's head. I forget the specifics of it, and I wish I could remember them, because that's pretty far out, but Cameron does get the most (almost the only) character development in this movie. Still, I doubt that was what John Hughes intended when he wrote the script.

-Thank fuck you mentioned the droning critics can do, because that's the thing I hate the most about the Distressed Watcher. If HE could cut OUT that LYRical sort of DRONing that goes ON when he talks at LENGTH about SOMEthing, then he'd be only half as annoying as he is now. Probably a lot less than that! I shouldn't be so mean to him, I know he's only just starting out on the critic's path, but it's a problem he really needs to nip in the bud.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matthew-Hill/1495231329 Matthew Hill

I gotta say, you work well with your restraints!

  • whattheshit

I've seen this one before, yet I can't find WHERE I saw it. What the hell?

  • Parkz

Your brother's got my respect for being a cop.

  • Korsharat

People like you seem to always think that legal immigration is an easy and fair procedure. It is not. One Cracked author shows this effectively:

    http://www.cracked.com/article_18552_so-you-wan…

By the way, what on earth could be a reason to restrict immigration? Has a human being not the god-given right to move freely on the face of the earth? Don't you realize that borders are ARBITRARY restrictions, not representing anything important? I may be biased because I support a world government, but really, is restricted immigration not a jail with another name?

  • maduce

I always wondered what your bro did. Now that I look back on it, it makes a lot of sense. As a fellow resident of Maricopa County, he's got my support.

  • maduce

In any case, they can't even ask you for proof of residence unless you've already broken the law, much like the seatbelt laws in place in many states already.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000329741181 Richard Taylor

hey, nice video the original and the commentary, just wanted to say, Dr. Insano is a mad scientist right? he could easily whip up some sort of voice changing gadget, :D

  • devilfish

Yeah, that's what I was saying, about the fan theories. I read it on Cracked too. The full article is here: http://www.cracked.com/article/18367_6-insane-f…

  • ApatheticOne (the original)

Damn, I had no clue your brother was cop…I hear that's a tough job.

  • melissia

Agreed. And cops really do get a bad rap, most cops I know take pride in their job and don't want to abuse their station…

  • melissia

Go ahead and tone down Dr. Insano. I actually think I prefer him as a methodical, somewhat more patient guy. Mind you I still love his insane glee, how much he loves the concept of science and etc, but I think he's a bit better of a character this way.

Also, it reminds me of when he killed Mechakara….

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Thomas-Kelley/100000588189282 Thomas Kelley

LOL, about the whole Arizona immigration thing, go to youtube and look up “Glenn Beck has Nazi tourettes” and you will see that Glenn Beck, the guy who calls EVERYTHING that ANYONE does a part of a Nazi plot, thinks that comparing this bill to Nazi practices is too far.

I should say here that I consider myself a conservative, but I HATE GLENN BECK. Rest assured, he represents only the lunatic fringe of the ideology, and I am ashamed that he is in any way associated with me.

BTW, just to bump up a little support for the fact that we aren't all lunatics, Linkara has said that he is a conservative, so HA!

On Insano: Dude, I didn't even realize that he was toned down. He really doesn't talk for very long usually, so I didn't really have any preconceptions of his normal speaking voice. Keep up the good work, Spoony!

  • StealthKnight

Your brother is a cool guy so being a good cop is an additional plus to his character. I know that not all cops are bad but when you hear about so many cops being corrupt or just plain jerks, it tends to be hard to not be weary of cops. The more good cops I know of the better a feel about police.

As for the movie, I actually thought you hated it but expressed your hate in a amusing way. I tend to not be found of those types of movies or the movies that go a ground the kid.

  • StealthKnight

With people like glen beck, it's hard to tell a sane conservative from a lunatic.Heck, I'm not even sure what a conservative is about anymore.

I consider my self liberal third wave feminist, but I will gladly shake hands with yours or any other conservatives and work together towards things. In other words, your cool in my book.

  • http://soldierhawk.wordpress.com/ SoldierHawk

You know what, I never assumed Ferris was pretending to be terminally ill. I always just assumed he was playing sick like with the flu (that's certainly what his parents think) and that his exaggerated popularity and the people rallying around him were just purely for the humor. He played sick yeah, but not that seriously (I don't think.) I'm actually kind of surprised how seriously you took the movie. I've always just seen it as a completely lighthearted fantasy.

Also: c'mon Spoony…you can't BUY ice weapons and armor in the original Final Fantasy! No town sells them! You gotta get 'em from the Ice Cave! But you knew that. ;)

    • http://twitter.com/JordS68 Jordan Stone

“By the way, what on earth could be a reason to restrict immigration?”

Drug cartels, rapists, murderers, traffickers of women, etc., etc. Oh, and terrorists. Have you heard about them, and the guy who nearly blew up a car bomb in Times Square?

If you're really concerned about the right to move freely on the face of the Earth, go tell it to North Korea, or Iran, or China even. People like you seem to always think these people deserve loving treatment.

If you have no borders, you have no nation. And as such, no rights whatsoever.

Get a clue, and stop bothering people with your ignorance.

    • Guest

How utterly typical of the Mobile Internet Fascist Brigade to frantically google any 10-second aside they can find about the newest policy Hannity told them to support so they, nestled away in their gated communities, can tell people who actually live in the areas affected by their half-formed ideas what to think. Paternalistic as ever, now that they’ve truly given up even the appearance of being sane, critical-minded people.

Quick quiz: What was the video actually about? If your nose starts bleeding, you’re allowed to tap out.

    • Anonymous

Sigh. Drug distribution is in the hands of violent criminals because of the current prohibition on drugs. The solution? Legalize drugs, then you will find marijuana in supermarkets, just as with tobacco. There is no, absolutely no, evidence that illegal immigrants commit more violent crimes than other people – in fact, research shows the opposite: Illegals are afraid to get send back so they tend to commit fewer crimes (other than illegally entering a country, of course). Oh, and terrorists? First, the ones who flew into WTC were legally in America. Second, I didn’t know Mexico has a thriving terrorist community. Third, have you ever heard about the Una-Bomber, the Kaczynski guy? He is an American citizen.
What are you talking about “go tell it to North Korea, or Iran, or China even. People like you seem to always think these people deserve loving treatment.”? Of course I don’t think these authoritarian regimes should exist. What makes you think otherwise? Oh, it’s because you think I am a liberal. You are cute.
“If you have no borders, you have no nation. And as such, no rights whatsoever.” What about a world government? Can’t a world government guarantee civil rights? Or are you one of these people who think that the UN is the road to tyranny? Watch out for the black helicopters!

  • Renaissance_nerd

some people might think having a cop for a brother is a good thing cause you'll never get in trouble WRONG!
the fact is if you personally know anyone in a position of authority if you get in trouble it is far worse the embarrassment alone is dire.

but anyway love Insano! Obey Insano! and Miles you got some new cool points in my book. Keep fighting the good fight.

  • mrrubino

Well yeah, but a Minnesota conservative. =P Like how in Massachusetts for instance, conservative means libertarian, and not borderline-insane like it does in Michigan.

I doubt Ferris would end up as a fry cook, he has enough charisma and enough connections that someone would just throw him a job in middle management. After that I honestly see him becoming the CEO of Goldman and Sachs or something.

loved this review, Dr Insano is awesome. i for one am all for toning down his maniacal laughter if it means we'll still see him around.

hope you're over that cold or whatever it was. if not, get well soon! we love you spoony!

  • Ithilgore

It's probably a good thing Linkara has his Dr. Linksano character now to fill in for Dr. Insano's more regular appearances, if you're hoping to limit his appearances slightly. Then again, if he (Dr. Insano) is the archnemesis again, it's probably better that he make more sporadic appearances, anyway, to make him showing up more special. Linksano serves as a regular “butt monkey” type ineffectual villain, so that's ideal enough, at least until the voice will no doubt start to wear out Linkara too, that is :P

  • peteman

I don't think he'd end up unsuccessful, he's far too clever and charismatic. That being said, he'd likely become a scam artist.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ashley.b.perry Ashley B. Perry

I thought the beginning was supposed to be the theme to Weird Science by Oingo Boingo. It seems fitting as Dr. Insano's theme music.

  • Masterblaster9001

If you look at Ferris's grades on the computer screen, he actually has straight A's across the board. He's not a slacker, he's just tired of school because it's redundant. The point is that he does all his work for the class and performs better than most other people, so he deserves a break once in awhile since the classes are probably covering things he already knows but other students are having trouble understanding. Sort of like how I finished half of FFVI in programming class while the rest of the class tried to figure out various topics I already knew.

    • croy10067

You got to remember that he did change his absences on his own computer and he did talk about a freshmen he know who he changed his grades for.

Dr. Insano is basically the Jack Sparrow of the Spoonyverse. He’s a character of pure id who goes back and forth basically fitting any role that’s needed to bring in the laughs while the straight-laced Will Turner/Spoony One gets on with the video and gets the job done.

That said, when he has to, Insano is a much better character because he can (and has) held his own doing reviews by himself. Depp couldn’t pull that off with Pirates 4. Think about that for a bit.
