Lord British institutes a new world order, and the call goes out for another hero (preferably one that doesn’t massacre entire towns for gold pieces).
I HAVE WAITED A GOOD MONTH, YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssss
Just got done watching it Spoony. Great job, and don’t let any of the trolls tell you other-wise. Be it Wrestle Wrestle, ICFBM, Vlogs, Movies, Games, Shadow Puppetry, we love your stuff, and will also appriciate how hard you work for us!
Great job Spoony! You still inspire me to become an Internet Reviewer!
Jeez, suck up enough to Spoony, Anon?
Need Ultima VIII reveiw now..
Rubber is such a kiss-ass
Yes well, he’s rubber and you’re glue. So…
Excellent review, though I don’t envy you having to write about Ultima 4; it lost all of the insanity of the previous games, and like you said, there isn’t much of a plot to speak of. Still, it’s probably one of the best early DOS RPGs, and definitely the best RPG ported to the NES.
I think everyone who watches Spoony or any of the large players in TGWTG wants to be a reviewer. And who can blame them? These guys are filled with the brim with awesome.
Odd, I thought Spoony would be filled with a delicous chocolate center.
Hell yeah more Ultima! Loved these since playing the first on the BBC Computer!
No negativity of any kind is allowed on this site, apparently.
Seems like alot of shit will be going down in Ultima 5.
Nice foreshadowing there, Spoony. :D
Love these retrospect episodes, keep them coming.
great review, nice and straightforward (not that your other stuff is bad that is good too)
You’d have to ask Scarlett that one.
I know it’s akin to heresy to say it, but I never cared for the Ultima series. I *hate* micromanagement and the utterly cracktastic nature of the early games, coupled with the buggy-as-fuck programming of the later ones, completely ruin any shot of nostalgic longing.
Plus, if I’m given the option to be evil, you can be damn sure I’m taking it. Tell me I can’t be an avatar? Yeah, well fuck YOU too.
A new car!
Insulting other fans isn’t negativity, it’s rude. Knock it off.
I almost fell over laughing when I saw Cena.
I take offense to the fact that in order to be ‘honorable’, you have to let your cowardly, shameful enemy run away with his tail between his legs, instead of sitting there and duking it out LIKE MEN! You’re not being dishonorable by killing them as they flee like a little girl, you’re insuring they die an honorable death, IN BATTLE.
Any Klingon will tell you that. And frankly, I’m surprised they haven’t shown up yet. After all the time traveling, princess kidnapping, and Tie Fighter dogfighting, you’d think a Klingon Bird of Prey would have shown up by now. Must have left all those “Phaz-zors” behind when they went home.
I have a sneaking suspicion that if you did ask her, Iam not sure if she would tell you!
What does it matter what one fan says to another? It’s not offending the almighty Spoony, is it?
Yes, any new content is good content as even if you disagree with it it makes for good discussion. This Ultima retrospective is making me feel so damn nostalgic…
“Humility in this game means sucking at everything.”
So true, so true. At least in IX you got a neat staff though.
Video stops after 1 minute for me? Broken for anyone else?
The whole ‘rude’ thing comes to mind again.
I’ll join you in the heresy, and take it a step further. I’ve never played any of them, and while they seem *interesting,* the “you must always have massive amounts of food” from the early ones would have pissed me off completely, and I doubt I’d have continued playing the series very long if I’d ever played them in the first place.
Isn’t interjecting in a conversation you’re not involved in also considered “rude”?
I know the feeling. Apparently the whole ‘virtues’ thing was started in part to address the complaints of parents since the whole anti-DnD thing was at its height around when Exodus came out. Thus while still a great game, it was apparently trying to send a positive message. Not nearly as bad as your average ‘educational’ game though.
Is it odd that these videos and the Ultima series in general makes me appreciate World of Warcraft more? I don’t really know why, maybe I could guess. I’m sure this series had some influence on WoW’s make-up, at least.
He was uploading a new copy to Blip.tv. Try reloading it. It should be back up for viewing now.
All hail Britannia!
Totally. I’m really senseing that alot of Blizzard “4th Wall” and “Not To Be Taken Seriously” humor comes alot from Ultima.
I disagree with Rubber’s comment. I’ll leave it at that.
While I get where you’re coming from, when its on a public discussion board, granted a comment section, anyone who’s able to post is involved.
Omg WoWz is srz bizns! I have 4 accounts and 50 level 80s all in full pvp epics cause I’m L33t. There is no humor in WoWz and it totally should be taken seriously at all times. It was the first MMO after all and Arena pvp is a real e-sport.
I disagree, because the same can be said of hearing an argument going on while in the same room, and butting in. It’s really no different.
I did a spit take at the cock dungeon. What the shit…
It’s pissing me off because I have to moderate this nonsense. So cool it already.
Sure it is, as in a conversation you can face each other, stand together and make it clear what’s needed to be done to jump in. To go a step further, the very first post of this thread was a general statement. I would argue that the simile here is more like someone yelling a statement at a group of people and getting various responses back. There’s no formal ‘bring someone in’ that can be done here.
I will add that while I don’t consider me chiming in rude, me talking about the rules when I’m in position to have a say in them or anything would be, though a better word would be presumptuous. I have not done so. My statement thus has just been that directing negative comments towards fans of a site is rude and that while it isn’t being directed necessarily at Spoony it is still being rude.
Is it me, or is the audio quality kinda weird in this video? Other than that it was a really well done review like always.
Everquest probably influenced WoW a lot more than ultima. Being that blizzard completely ripped off just about everything from it, right down to the interface.
Hahaha, awesome. I love the “It was the first MMO, after all” that got me laughing, hard. ^_^
Speaking of MMORPG’s, anyone else think there should be an ESIV: Oblivion multiplayer edition?
The next Ultima is called “Warriors of Virtue”? There are ninja kangaroos in that one, I assume?
Yay Ultima 4 review! Must say, the foreshadowing for Ultima 5 defiantly has me curious for the next bit to this series. Good informative review. Keep up the awesome work!
I noticed that too. It sounded really tinny, like the volume was set too high.
Could you explain why there are so many different versions of the game? I saw at least three distinct versions in this one, one of which looked the most modern by leaps and bounds.
Not a complaint, but whats with the audio? Lowest quality than I’ve seen Spoony use in ages.
You’re probably starting to notice a theme here where everything you do in a previous Ultima game only ends up making things worse for the inhabitants of Sosaria/Britannia.
Really, the moral of the story Lord British is trying to teach us is that you shouldn’t bother.
Well you got the really early one on DOS, an updated version and the NES version I believe is the best looking one of those.
Audio of your commentary seems a little off, Spoony.
Good Review on a good game. Nice Touch with the Motorhead song at the end.
I love the Big Lebowski reference.
I always liked Ultima 4. It was nice to have a game where you actually had to consider positive virtues as being strengths (as opposed to simply killing everyone who looked at you funny and stealing everything that wasn’t nailed down and chained to a mithril anchor).
On another note, the large letters spelling out where you were (always in the middle of the store) always tripped me out. HERB SHOP. MAGIC SHOP.
What? If you found an adult novelties store in Brittania would you just walk in and see the word DONGS in the middle of it?
Now that would frighten even the mightiest adventurer…
What was with the low bit-rate?
Is the video just not loading for anyone else?
wow these games… i.. i.. i remember these games much better then… they are…
you’re playing music from the Sierra On-Line soundtrack! …
wait ! a second song from this CD? can I hope for a third? …
It would be nice to see you play some point-n-click Sierra OnLine.
huh…the sound quality sounds like some of the earlier FF8 videos. This isn’t a complaint..but it’s somewhat homey… like wearing an old worn-in tennis show… on your… well ear. I hate to say this about an internet retro review but it felt like a throwback, specifically to your youtube days, especially a video done under 10 minutes too
Only thing I can really say is, what was up with the commentary audio? Not that it’s any kind of major complaint, but it just isn’t up to your usual standards.
Other than the sound, it’s fine. Maybe it’s just me and I’m getting old and hearing things. In a way I actually kind of dig it, it’s nostalgic of your earlier vids.
OMG WHAT THE FUCK SPOONY DO A F@#! FINAL FANTASY REVIEW!!!!!!!!!! :(
Just kidding, i just got done reading the comments on the ICFBM shark video and wow what nerd rage so much negativity. People need to go out side and breath. The Ultima Series rocks i cant wait tell 7 and 8 awesome stuff.
That’s nostalgia for you. These are still awesome games, but you always remember them as better than they were.
Weird, I could have sworn I posted before… anyway, the nice thing about Ultima IV is that it’s now freely available online, and there’s an engine rebuild made to run on modern systems. Look for something called xu4.
This is the first RPG I have seen that is dedicated to become a “boy scout”
I thought he was filled with guts.
Dude, that is not a cock dungeon, that is totally an axe.
Stop staring at me like that! I didn’t come up with that idea, you did!
i belive that the audio is blip fault, its auto downsamples the audio now :(
A land called Brittania and not a single Code Geass reference?
I think we’ve got a half-demon and a schoolgirl out looking for the shards of that gem, but I don’t think they’re ever going to find all of them.
Time and place, pal. Time and place.
Am I hearing Kings Quest 5 music at the start?
Phew, thought you were talking about George Bush for a minute at the end there
First you’d have to presume that Spoony has even seen Code Geass.
Okay, Blip’s new changes have made me unable to watch the video even more so than I normally can.
Somebody put this on youtube, it’s the only way I’ve been able to watch half the videos for over a month. Blip has failed.
Yeah, that was my first thought after posting this, lol. “Spoony isn’t an anime fan. Crap.”
WORD BLITZ!! Damn I just woke up, grabbed some coffee and started smoking a cig then BAM, super fast talking. I like the longer more chill reviews. Slow it down Spoony.
You should have made some Avatar The Last Airbender jokes
COCK DUNGEON! XD
But then spoony won’t get payed.
If you pause there’s actually an option to switch from streaming the episode to preloading it. I recommend switching…it’s so much higher quality. That the low-quality is a preset is so annoying.
My initial reaction: “8 virtues? Well, at least Destrucity isn’t involved….” ;)
It may be [arguably] the best looking, but it is the least functional. You can’t converse with NPCs, they just have canned statements, and playing the battle system with a gamepad instead of a keyboard is an excercise in tedium, and etc. etc.
Oh, and the music sucks, and no matter what, you start in some sort of parallel universe version of Lord British’s castle before you’re teleported off to your home town, and his actual castle interior looks nothing like that one. I think battles are random in it too. And you can only have, I believe, four party members instead of eight. Etc. etc.
What’s up with the sound? It’s horribly low quality for some reason.
why doesnt Lord British just do this himself…And where the hell is part 3 to of ICBM of Shark OHHH wait NVM …LUV ya BRO KEEP up the Snark!!
If anyone has the soundtrack available for Ultima IV for the NES, please let me know!
That had the best music in any game I’ve ever played.
ehh rlly ?
Sir, have you ever even heard of spelling or grammar?
well if you like it that much i can brake it down to ya ..bling …bling blah ..blah ..blah ding dong walla walla bing bang there ya go 8)~
Your revolution is over Mr. Antwiler! The bum’s lost! You heard me Antwiler?? THE BUM HAS LOST!
Never having played Ultima IV, I still don’t know why you call it “one of the best games of all time”. It looks very similar to the previous entries in the series, so I can’t judge it by the video alone. You mention three of its merits: (1) a truly open-ended exploration experience, (2) being able to act like a hero, not a brute with a sword, and having (3) clear definite goals in every town. Then you harp on some of its shortcomings: (1) Inconsistencies in Lord British’s morals over the course of the series, (2) the implausibility of searching for a runestone in a superheated forge, (3) the fact that the character Katrina is nearly useless in the game, (4) the cumbersome spell system and, finally, (5) the ordeal of having to track down moongates with constantly changing locations.
So, why is this one of your favorite games again Spoony? I can’t tell from what you’ve shown and what you’ve said.
Hes rehashing an old review..that he hasnt posted yet ..till now …hes back at moms house
go to bed jacob!!
um…no it isn’t. how could it be an old video that references a series he just started? plus, that’s the same room he’s been reviewing in for a while now, he just switches the posters around once and a while.
“THE BUM’S ALWAYS LOSE” nice. you mentioned things being less zany in the word of ultima this time around. i had been wondering at exactly what point in the series the various owners of the properties started to take notice of lord british’s…uh…shall we say “liberal borrowing” of other people’s concepts and the games would no longer feature tie fighters, hobbits, and obscure fantasy novel and gaming characters, and apparently, that point was number 4. in a way i miss the lunacy of the first 3, but it’s probably for the best that bilbo baggins can no longer possibly hijack a starship and go bebopping around the galaxy with an poor man’s ewok, elric with a blaster rifle, and luke’s landspeeder. certainly less exciting, but for the best none the less i think haha
I’m curious about something. concerning the footage, it seems that all the videos feature some very similar shots, and i was wondering if A) spoony is just showing us random clips from several of the ultima games all at once, not really concerned with matching the footage to what he’s talking about or B) there are different versions of the same game for different platforms that are both drastically different from eachother while somehow remaining similar from game to game on a single platform (if that made any sense) or i guess also C) something i haven’t thought of at all? does anyone know? i was wondering
also, wanna take bets on how long it takes people to start a massive war about this video not meeting their bizarre tunnel visioned expectations for the content on the site? place your wagers before time runs out people, we’re 70 comments in and people have been remarkably well behaved, it’s bound to happen any second.
i’m taking action on “why isn’t this a final fantasy review?” as well as good odds on “this video was so short, it’s not up to your usual standard because of it came beyond midnight, i JUST KNOW IT” and while the odds are long, we have a dark horse bet on someone demanding the next episode of wrestle wrestle. like i said, it’s a sucker bet, but big winnings could go to the daring! place your bets, gather round, place yer bets kiddies. nobody loses when it’s a great show!
Yes he totally missed that! in fact, i’m surprised if anything he didn’t go for mocking the “dances with smurfs” avatar now that you mention it. but then again, giant cock dungeons tend to mess with one’s concentration i guess haha
UNLESS lord british himself is REALLY the villain, then it all makes sense. you see it’s his cunning plan to bring in blood crazed townsfolk raping madmen from other dimensions to wreak unprecidented havoc on all of the land so that the desperate people turn to him as their savior. and it’s working too. just look at how much british has prospered since the first game? they renamed the damn continent (maybe even the whole WORLD as far as the game is concerned) to Britannia.
it all makes sense if you think about it, plus this totally explains the “kidnap a princess for the dungeon of every castle in my land! THIS…I COMMAND!!!” thing, i think hahah
You made a mistake in the credits; It says “Ultima V: Warriors of Virtue” while it’s clearly Warriors of Destiny ;)
anyway /nitpicking filter OFF. Great video!
The early Ultima games (1 through 5, I believe) run on more or less the same basic engine, so there are bound to be some similarities. Additionally, there are several versions of most of the Ultima games. The story is usually intact, and only the gameplay and graphics change mildly in ports. The versions I spotted in this review are the original DOS version, the DOS version with an upgraded fan-made graphics pack, and the NES version with streamlined gameplay. In addition, there is a program that you can run Ultima 4 via that lets you play the game using some of amenities of the later games — most notably the ability to mix as many spells at once as you have the ingredients.
I’m not Spoony, obviously, but allow me to attempt to shed some light on the subject. The exploration is something that really can’t be emphasized enough; the entire world is open to you from the very beginning of the game, and the enemies you encounter are based upon your level, so you’re never overwhelmed assuming you’re well prepared. The virtues system in the game is really in-depth and does push you to try to make good decisions, though it can be easily exploited. The general quest of the game allows you to run around and soak up the flavor of world your adventures are taking place in. It’s also an incredible amount of fun running from town to town just seeing who you can recruit. And just because the game’s goal is to be Britannian Jesus doesn’t mean you have to be all the time. That cow look at you funny? Stab it the face for minimal exp and money.
And to counter Spoony’s list of shortcomings, (1) Ultima 4 is really where the developers sat down and said, “Hey, we really need to make sense of this world’s timeline and start, you know, being serious.” Think of the first three as delirious fever dreams, whereas the fourth is the first “real” game in the series. (2) The rune in the forge is the rune of sacrifice. No pain, no gain, as it were. (3) Katrina isn’t required to be in your party ’til the very end of the game — you have to recruit everyone to show your leadership skills. Additionally, there are 7 other recruit-able characters in the game, though your character replaces one of them based on your class. Really I think Spoony was warning against you playing AS Katrina – not being able to use powerful weapons or armor and being unable to cast spells really hurts the main character. (4) I. Uh. I don’t think the NES version was that bad about it…? Yeah, this is a completely valid complaint. (5) The moongates aren’t as hard as Spoony made them out to be. Each town has a phase of the moon associated with it. When the first moon is it’s phase, the moongate near that town opens. When the second moon is it’s phase, entering a moongate will take you there.
I think a lot of the “one of the best games of all time” comes from it’s ease of play. You can just jump in and go. You don’t have to follow a specific route. You don’t have to pay attention to a storyline. You don’t have to worry about monsters being too powerful to handle. You can just pick a controller, make your character, jump through a random moongate and just start playing. It’s really refreshing now that most games have introduction sections that can last hours.
Spell reagents are a rarity in RPGs… but the Ultima ones… Why the crap does casting like a fireball use flowers and garlic?
Yes, you are the only one that sees that because it isn’t the old house…are you mad? He started this series very recently – you could see him render one of the episodes on his comp in the background during one of his V Logs, and it’s clearly his new place – but according to you he decided to do this one over a year ago, then went back to the start of the series only recently in order to show them in order. Bwha?????? Bizarre.
For the record, the sound was fine for me.
So sick of seeing the ad for that shitfest of a film. I’ll take 7/11 shilling any day.
Oh god, I never did beat this game. I’d rent it and get frustrated or distracted every damn time. The spell components thing drove me nuts. Guess I was too young and too impatient to deal with it.
Still, I always did love messing with the beginning of the game more than the actual game itself.
The rune of sacrifice wouldn’t appear unless you made some sort of sacrifice.
First off, what happened to the new version of the intro of living illusion. It gave people the idea that the spoony was a total badass and knew that people were in for a ride once they saw the video.
Second, what’s wrong with the sound in the video? It sounds like a lot of the older videos that spoony made. No offence
Great review either way.
Thanks for the great post LancerECNM! I now understand the game’s appeal more clearly. I found your reply to the alleged shortcomings of the game to be especially interesting.
Dang, that King’s Quest V music at the start brought some memories flooding back. That was the second real game I ever played.
Glad to see the good theme song return.
This video wasn’t as funny as the last three, my hopes are high for Ultima V next time though!
Oh man, no Avatar: the Last Airbender jokes? XD Good episode though.
The Eight Virtues are a work of thematic genius, almost as good as Magic: The Gathering’s color pie. I was enthralled by them as a kid, and I didn’t even play the Ultima games in that much detail. I’d gladly talk about it at length to anyone who asks.
Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you have to have a full party in order to complete the game? I guess you held off on that until it was time for the final dungeon, huh?
These are very informative reviews. I only played Ultima VIII and I didn’t know anything about the previous games, so I’m curious. I thought VIII was a pretty good game (not a classic one), especially for the spells, but I will talk about it on the proper review.
The Ultima series has an amazingly rich soundtrack. Why don’t you use it instead of borrowing pieces from other games?
hey thanks. i was wondering, as the various vers. looked extreeeeeemely different. at first i just kind of figured he was just showing the whole ulitma series as random backgrounds that didn’t neccessarily sync up with what he was talking about. but then he mentioned katrina the sheperd and showed her in a screenshot that looked vastly different from the others, so i figured that at least was def. ultima 4, but the others still…oh hell you get it, it was confusing haha. anyway thanks for letting me know. though it is pretty amazing how massive the difference is between the DOS and NES versions. this is one time i would def. have to concede to the console vers. as the better one (at least prettier) than the PC, which is pretty hard to do.
Surprised you didn’t make any Last Air Bender joke.
Um I don’t think that’s from the Ultima game, I think it might have been from Kings Quest VII.
So what was the first one then? I gots to know, otherwise it will haunt me forever :D
“The bums lost, the bums will always lose”
“well that’s just like… your opinion man”
So far, the dungeons haven’t really been mentioned in these Ultima retrospectives. The pre-VI dungeons tended to be long, monstrous affairs. Even “first level” dungeons were incredibly arduous. It was a relief when the started softening up in Ultima VI.
MOTÖRHEAD RULES !! AND SPOONY TOO !!!
Omg that part about the bums never leaving despite receiving ridiculous amounts of money reminds me of Fallout 3. I collected Purified Waters (and later Aqua Pura, which is given out for FREE ANYWAY) and gave every single one of them (I seriously never drank one) to the dieing guy outside Megaton as well as as the one outside Rivet City. I swear I gave them lakes worth of purified water and still they kept begging me for more.
I love the Big Lebowski reference. That movie rocks!
Without them Triple H would be a quarter of the star he is today.
What are you talking about? Spoony doesn’t hate anime, he just dislikes a lot of the stylistic choices that are common in anime, (Which Code Geass falls under, he doesn’t like androgyny), he dug Ghost In The Shell and Appleseed, he’s seen Hellsing, and I think he would like Cowboy Bebop or Outlaw Star since he likes Firefly (Which stole a lot from those two shows).
I didn’t mean that he hates anime, just that he doesn’t watch a lot of it.
The review was great but i noticed a few weird things about it. I’m not sure if im hallucinating or something but i noticed that whenever he was talking about scenes from the 4th installment of the games he was using footage from the 3rd game. Also he has a serious typo at the end with “To be continued with Ultime V: The Warriors of Virtue when throughout the entire review he showed the game cover and it said Warriors of Destiny? I don’t know if thats just being picky but I just thought I should point that out.
Anyway good review Spoony! Keep on pushing those reviews out. I cant wait for the next ones.
Well. It was either a dungeon shaped like a wang,or they recycle that zelda stage that looks like a swastika. Thankfully they didn’t go with the latter on that choice. And i was thinking there was gonna be a Last Airbender joke in this, but can’t have it all.
Wow, way to be a douche.
Actually, it’s not a swastika. It is the japanese kanji Ban, whish means “full” or “complete”.
Also, when it stands on its tip (like the swastika) it is the symbol for “rising sun” in china, the nazis just stole the symbol and put it on their flag.
Ahhh. My mistake. But i’m sure i’m not the only one who assumed it.
You can close the box if you hover the mouse slightly above the video info box (above the X to close the ad)
Manji, not Ban.
Okay, upon first loading the site I am greeted with “I’m adorable but alone!”, so I was already laughing so hard before finally watching this review. That was one of my favorite moments in the Warrior Comic review…the hilarity never stops…ouch..my pancreas!
Damn! Now we have to find someone to kill the politician who corrupted the moral code!
I’ll pay $50 for the opportunity to beat them to death with something heavy. I will also pay $25 to shoot them.
In addition: YEAH! MOTORHEAD!
Great review, Spoons. I only have to complain on one thing: There’s actually 4.5 zillion degrees in a forge!
ALL RIGHT! THE OLD SONG IS BACK! Thank you spoony! THANK YOU!!!
Troll alert. Just saying.
Holy shit. Did you know that lord british went to SPACE?! right before NCsoft fired him. as soon as he got back, they fired him.
Not really, since you said it “looked” like a swastika (and it did).
Obvious troll detected.
Loving these Ultima reviews. I never had the chance to play the games as a kid, so getting the run down from you is always nice! ;)
Looking forward to 5 and some more FFX carnage!
i banish you to… the COCK DUNGEON!
THE BUMS LOST! THE BUMS ALWAYS LOSE!
I am sorry, I can’t take a name like Britannia and that whole Ethnic cleansing thing seriously thanks to Code Geass.
Psst @spoonyone this was part 5, not part 4
i didnt even watch this and im laughing so hard haha why is there a penis shaped room?!?!
Ultima IV had no plot? “Quest of the Avatar” is quite a plot you know.
Britannia? Wow, this series ripped off Code Geass. I’m glad it’s dead.
If I could laugh you off the internet I would.
Religion killed irony, and Mountain Dew pissed on its grave.
Great choice of music on this one Spoony!
Thank you much, can’t wait for the next one!
Spoony, I must say that I am impressed with your selection of music at the end of this review. Lemmy is a god. Let us all bow our heads in observance to the great moled-one.
It was Zeliard.
Sweet Lebowski reference, Noah.
The Dude abides.
I like the Conquest of the Longbow music that just popped up randomly… :)
I blame YouTube and Vince Offer, IMHO.
How so? This was Ultima 4. Should be part 4. Ultima 0 review was part 0. The Breaking News for 3 was for a contest, not a review.
I also only played Ultima VIII back in the day, and the spell system was complex but fun. I loved playing that game, just trying to get the next powers or doing those weird rituals was great (invoking pyros comes to mind.. aphelion, mesostel, perivolcan… :D)
nice ending XD
I apparently missed a lot not getting a computer for many years, bummer, this one looks pretty fun
well if you want to play them, the ultima collection is available and the games will work on your computer. or you can get a emulator for it on the nes.
have you ever played the Ultima games on any other system like gameboy?
Is that a herpes sore on the middle of that dungeon cock?
Sorry, I don’t find creatively bankrupt game designers funny. Surely this clown didn’t think he could ripoff a masterpiece like Code Geass and get away with it? And look at those graphics. Code Geass aired in 2006, so this was clearly made after that, and yet it still looks so bad? Must be a Wii game.
Okay… Quest For The Avatar was made in 1985. Two decades before Code Geass even began. It looks bad because it was made for a PC in the eighties, which wasn’t high tech back then. Note that last bit. A PC game. Not a Wii game.
You’re getting as troll’d as one can get, lucky_charm.
Code Geass aired after this game. That would be like saying Geas (IIRC, a spell in D&D that commands people to do something) is a rip off of Lelouch’s Geass, It’s older than you think.
cant wait for ultima 5, spoony you make the games come alive :)
I’m really starting to hate these 45 second commercials before the video!
small price to pay to keep this site rollin’
Get Firefox ad blocker….
I kind of feel dumb for this, but why does it seem like there are graphics from three different games when he’s talking specifically about Ultima 4?
Different versions. Namely the original Apple ][, the PC port (less colorful), and the NES port (Dragon Warrior style menus and sprites)
Ah, man, I remember this game on the NES, a bottle of Dr. Pepper and no friends meant a good time. I love you, hands…wait, that didn’t sound right.
Also, Motorhead’s Heroes at the end? Awesome.
1:51 Cute. That should be his next movie. “John Cena is…THE AVATAR!”
… Eight virtues, eh?
Perhaps… Ultimate vitrues?
Creating some sort of… truce? Perhaps? … Yeah, I went there…
“You could go to /college/ with the money I gave your silly ass.”
… Oh right, in some countries you actually have to pay for college.
free on gog.com now!
I am downloading it as i type but this game is free and legal now at GOG
The video isn’t playing for me. What quicktime component do I need to download to get the video to work?
i have the same problem too. the quicktime thing is preventing me from watching this vieo, and a lot of other ones too!
well, at least i know its not me alone.
you could install every component or uninstall quicktime all togher
1:43 – Ha ha! A penis!
+1 for the King’s Quest V soundtrack! I actually thought my phone was ringing, because I have the intro theme as my ringtone right now. ;~)
I’m playing this one again right now, in fact. I’m going from Iv all the way to IX (I know, I know). Just attained Avatarhood, now gathering my party and heading for the dungeons. I recall this game being a lot harder in my youth, taking nearly 8 months to complete, but oh what a feeling you got once you beat it.
I am SO addicted to all things Spoony now! He is pretty brand new to me, trying to watch all of his new and old videos at once. Overwhelmed with awesomeness!
awww….why cant I play it? Quickplay? I all ready have that! The hell?
“…Now he’s preaching like he’s some kind of moral authority, huh? Convenient.”
I always felt like Spoony let in a bit of his personal life here…
Thanks to the sale at GOG.com, I’m playing this game for the first time.
Walked into the town of Trinsic and found all these Paladins wandering around.
And, of course, as a future Avatar, I had to ask them all, “What’s a Paladin?”
I want to play this game, but I don’t know how to cheat the system to make my character a male paladin, or whichever class is the tank (if this game even has such a thing)
I thought that sounded like Lemmy.
Just read this article – what would Ultima IV look like if made today, thought you’d be interested:
What’s the other game you have footage for that you keep cutting to?
thanks to you spooney i am now playing this game well playing is a realitve turn im just starting
I do not get it: there are tow types of overhead view in the game? One with animated FF-esque sprites and one it static stickmen? What the heck?
The Stick figures are the original PC version. The FF-esque sprites are from the NES version. Ultima stopped being released on NES after this one, so no need to worry after that.
Ah, i see. Thanks.
