Highlander is one of the most amazing movie series ever made, because it’s managed to produce a shittier and shittier movie with each iteration, and considering the SECOND FILM was The Quickening, that’s a truly freaking impressive feat.

Highlander 2: The Immortals are really aliens and the future sucks thanks to Conner MacLeod, son of Jor-El.

Highlander 3: Hey, did you know Immortals can use illusion magic? Apparently each Immortal is like a character in Heroes, and everyone wants to be Sylar. Also, uncomfortable and very long sex scene involving Christopher Lampert.

Highlander: Endgame: The villain stands right at the crossroads of “Fruity” and “Creepy,” Chrisopher Lampert says “Fuck it,” and hands the torch to Adrian Paul in much the same way he “handed the torch” to James Remar in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, and the Watchers are even more confusing than the Highlander TV series or Buffy could portray, combined.

Highlander: The Source: They could have replaced Adrian Paul with Dean Cain and none of the two dozen people who actually saw this film would have noticed or cared.

There there, big guy… I saw it in the theater as well, as did Spoony, I believe. But imagine driving nearly FORTY MINUTES one way to see it, since most theaters were sensible enough not to carry the film. That should have been warning enough to stay away, but nooooo. The drive back home was so depressing that I felt like careening into a telephone pole to end the misery.

Yeah. We had a 30ish minute drive. At least that cinema ‘used’ to have a kick ass concession stand (then AMC bought it out.. sigh). Two others came with me. I was lucky. One is a friend I only rarely see anymore, and the other I soon after married. I think the marriage might had partially been an apology for bringing me to see this.

“It was not good.” Understatement of the year?

The lying ass trailer that showed Kell getting cut in two, then splitting into two Kells, tricked me into thinking the McLeods would be facing some kid of super immortal and they would have to unite to defeat him. I sure as hell didn’t want to see a depressed Connor McLeod giving up on life by being hidden away in a basement. Nor did I want to see Duncan pining over a long lost love, who this time for sure is his true love.

I wanted to see Connor and Duncan kicking ass. I knew Connor would die, the movie was passing on the Highlander movie legacy to Duncan. It just sucked to me that Connor was depressed and suicidal and just no fun.

Heh, I went to see it with my dad, and we had to drive about an hour to go see it, since the theatre in town only showed second-run movies. I honestly cannot recall what we thought of it. We did like the TV show a lot, so I think we just took the stance of “Well, some Highlander is better than none.”

I’m not sure that’s actually TRUE, but it was our stance.
