I love how even the advertisements for those systems look like carbon copies of the Wiimote.

LMAO Spoony, you crazy bastard. Even I got embarrassed just watching that. Also, on the issue of the motion stuff, I guess it’s a good alternative for people who can’t motivate themselves to exercise, but I don’t see any games (outside of the shameful yet funny dancing ones) I’d be willing to play.

The guy dancing next to you looked like he was either having a heart attack, seizure, or was getting some sexual pleasure from “Spooning with Spoony” DDR edition.

LOL @ Spoony getting jiggy to the sounds of WHAM! The other guy dancing with you had some sweet moves as well.

your dancing was sweet. i suppose you can kinda thank kinect and move for 1 thing and that is xbox and sony will never try this gimmick shit again

    Now that’s what I call Dirty Dancing….:D

  • http://twitter.com/TheTemplarion Templarion

Thank you. I must admit, I was a little hesitant to trust your E3 review of the Kinect when you hadn’t tried everything, but now that I hear this, I’ll be canceling my preorder for it. I might actually have to get that Dance game for the Wii though, it sure looked like you were having a ton of fun playing it.

  • Anonymous

Kinnect got one more more big “do not buy” – it can’t detect that you want to go forward/turn and so “more hardcore” games for it will be rail shooters/slashers. Microsoft – you FAILED

Nothing compared to my sweet Just Dance 2 moves. Oh it’s on Spoony.

  • http://twitter.com/the3blues The3Blues

    Is Spoony pregnant?

  • Poipoi

At least you have coordination Soony, unlike myself who would resemble a beached whale having a seizure if I tried to dance. Its a shame people didn’t give motion plus more a chance. I know all I want in a controller is something that works. Several times I’ve gotten frustrated with my wii over that.

  • http://twitter.com/Painkiller531 Dan Crocker

I’m glad it is you up there dancing and not me.. :) I think I might have to hit PAX next year.. seems like a blast to be at!

  • http://twitter.com/thisgamesux THiSGaMeSuX

i laughed. hard. there lies your number one problem with a peripheral like that… looking like a douche.
If of course that does not bother you, you are free to buy one.

Oh! but you made it look good spoony! (totally not laughing right now)

  • Anonymous

Hyuk hyuk… you’re such an ass, Spoony. :-)
The Kinect looks amusing, but people like me (and probably you too) who are more into traditional, controller-operated gameplay just aren’t its target audience, and I don’t think this kind of technology will be really all that groundbreaking until it becomes something like a Star Trek VR room. And even then, will it be popular? I don’t know. Probably not. Maybe in shopping malls and arcades, where you don’t have to spend $50000 plus the cost of a new addition to your home and property line just to install the fucking thing.

spoony dancing on stage fuckin hilarious, see this is why dudes shouldn’t bring there girlfreinds to conventions…. that and the hot cosplayers……

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rob-van-der-Sloot/1737876984 Rob van der Sloot

I have to disagree with you Spoony. I’ve tried the Kinect first hand, and it sucks ass. The dancing game, while nice on the eyes, always gives you a perfect score no matter how bad you dance. And let us not even speak of Kinectimals, because there was no connection what so ever. I was highly surprised with Sony’s Move at the Gamescom in Germany. While most of the games are equally boring and lame, at least the detection is very accurate. The Kinect however was barely playable.

  • Anonymous

Truly, Spoony has the movements of the grandest bellydancer. ;D

Regardless, yeah, the whole motion control thing is really pointless. Can’t really stand it.

  • Anonymous

As far as I’m concerned, M$ and Sony jumping on the motion-control-train is, along with 3D-technology (in games and movies and especially TV), a perfect example of the company execs denying the reality of the consumer and replacing it with their own: everyone is burned out when it comes to motion-controls since it’s just a gimmick in this point of history and technology. And 3D is an even bigger gimmick and on top of that its really, really pointless. I don’t know anyone who really likes 3D, and thinks that “It has to be on every movie, every TV-show and my toaster”. Where do Sony and the gang get the idea that anyone wants 3D? And are they seriously this late with motion control? Seriously?? They should just have silently euthanized the Move and Kinect and forever deny their existence and that they ever thought either one of them would be a “good idea”.
When motion controls are handled via brain/nervous system linked virtual reality and 3D doesn’t require glasses, I’m in. Before that, don’t bother.

On a more serious note: I’d hit anything with moves like that.

  • Anonymous

    Spoonman,

Did you score any babes with your sick dance moves?

  • http://twitter.com/xikar Nicholas Spezio

Very nice Spoony. You should have ended the video with an explosion as your embarrassment reached critical mass.
Anyways, I have to agree with the Kinect points. The main problem I have with it from a technical standpoint is the fact it uses a motion capture camera and software similar to what movie and game studios use to…well capture motion for character models, but the Kinect is missing something: a solid constant object for the camera and software to latch onto. There’s a reason you see those people in goofy full body green suits with dots on it for motion capture sessions. The camera follows the balls and translates that into motion.
Now I don’t mean to sound like a Sony fanboy but Sony got it right they have a camera with motion capture software, and a device for the camera to pick up and translate into motion. Plus the added bonus of buttons for various other controls in game. Sure a full set of Move controllers will be more than one Kinect but it may be worth it in the end.
Now the Wii does it reverse with the capture camera on the controller and object being the sensor bar, or actually any source of a infrared light (like to two candles).
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how well each product does upon their various releases.

I was there all three days and I never heard them play that song at just dance 2. They were playing pump it up now and other songs.

there are far more shameful ways to embarrass yourself, this is just one of the funnier ways to do so! :)

I had planned some massive written text speech about how spoony was generally monetizing off the idea that negativity sells, and I still hold true to that. Don’t get me wrong, I still love his work and will continue to support him, but I will say he MUST be aware of this. I’am genuinely blown away by how NOT negative he is being at PAX compared to his “This blows” attitude at E3. Just an observation, anyways good job! I was never gonna get the kenectic but even I knew it was too good to be true!

  • http://www.facebook.com/strong.and.masculine Kalle Matias Kolari

Spoony’s got some moves! (seriously though, it wasn’t that bad! Then again, I’m just another geek and my dancing experience is…limited :P )

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Amanda-Gardner/1376551549 Amanda Gardner

I am so looking forward to Just Dance 2!!! As for the motion control stuff, I’ll stick to my Wii, even though it’s graphics are not up to par with the other consoles (Graphics don’t really matter to me, just how much fun it is). It was cheaper and gets the job done for a casual gamer like myself. Well enough of me sounding like a complete Nintendo Fangirl…

BTW, Nice moves there Spoony. ;)

    Wow Spoony.

You’ve made me laugh, and sometimes cries with laughter, today you’ve made me cringe, but in a good way.

I was on the fence with the Kinnect for awhile, i had my £10 deposit down, but as soon as i found out the price i cancelled pretty much the next day.

You’re looking at a guy who invested in a HD DVD drive, at full price on launch day, so i’m not gonna risk the same thing happening again with the kinnect, I’ll stick with my control pad ta very much.

Hmm OTT singing and dancing on Rock Band & Just Dance….. I bet you really do have a copy of lips stashed some where , i’ll be looking for it in the background to your vids now lol

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_V7YJOI6GLXU7SZYVTUXAIUA2AI Common Thoughts

I get what you are saying about the PS3 being late to the motion control market, but really it’s overall a better performing system. While I must admit the games are going to seem like less charming clones of Wii Sports and etc, the PS3 Move is going to be interesting. I just hope that game developers of more adult oriented games (which are lacking on the Wii) will be able to utilize the newer motion controls. As far as the Xbox, I don’t own one so I can’t really comment. Overall a good review and I am looking forward to seeing the conclusion of your Final Fantasy X review!

  • Anonymous

Oh my god, seeing you dance is the funniest shit I’ve seen all day, that was awesome. The game actually does look pretty fun though, I wouldn’t mind making a fool of myself with it.

As for the Sony Move, I don’t know why the hell they’re even bothering. PS3 owners (or potential ones) never asked for a Wiimote with an Eye Toy stuck on it. If we wanted motion control then we’d just go out and buy a Wii (which I did). The Wii is for fun (albeit sometimes silly) motion controls and party games. The PS3 is for traditional gaming. Same can be said for the 360 too.

  • Anonymous

those moves are hella tight spoony! XD
but im really not surprised that the move didnt get much attention. it might work (even though i noticed a kinda big lag in some games here at gamescom in cologne, the tennis game even tells you where the ball will land to compensate for that…) but like you said, sony is simply too late! if you want motion controls you own a wii already.
and about kinect… well im REALLY not surprised about that. i didnt try it myself but the live presentation of joy ride at gamescom looked SO lose and sluggish!
kinect is also kinda missing the point of playing a game in my opinion… i mean, if i play a video game i want to relax and get away from reality. if you take away the controller and just place the player in front of the screen and make him spazz out like a moron thats kinda counterproductive in this regard =/ casuals might like that but i doubt that they would like to pay $150 for a mere peripheral that doesnt even work all that well.

i hope move and kinect will fail. not because im a nintendo fanboy (which i am not), i just want this motion control fad to end already…

Haha seeing you dancing was epic!

I’m quite into dancing games so it was very interesting to see a device like this published by Sony. Though it is true that Sony is ‘a tiny bit’ too late and furthermore I’ll stick to the Wii regarding this type of games.

Hey I was trying! I suck at dancing games and was just trying to have fun with it

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1536912113 Ian Kovich

I’m nitpicking, I know, but technically, these motion controls are four years late, not two. The Wii came out in 2006, and by the time both of these hit the market, it’ll be the Wii’s anniversary.

But I agree wholly with everything else. It’s hard to tell how well the Move will sell to gamers of the hardcore variety, since it’ll work with Socom and Killzone, but if one thing’s for sure, casual gamers will not buy it up. They’ll take one look at the games and controllers and think, how is it different from the Wii? Yes, the technology is better (in some areas), but casuals don’t care about technology; the Wii’s success made that abundantly clear. They just want cheap, intuitive, fun experiences, and when they see the Wii and Just Dance, that’s exactly what they’re looking for. They see Kinect and Dance Central and ask, why should I buy a new console for what looks like the same thing?

If Sony and Microsoft were smart, they should have held off on motion controls until their next consoles came out. At least that way the controllers won’t be peripherals and look like unique selling points.

Well, I’m getting a playstation move no matter what. Kinect is too expensive for what it does. Wii is just too low quality both in terms of graphics and control.

With the move, you’re getting something that is accurate and responsive and can be used for shooters (RE5, Socom 4, Killzone 3, Time Crisis)… I’ve never, NEVER gotten used to using thumbsticks to aim in FPSes.. the best game I last played was Bad Company 2, and even then, I still wished I could aim as precisely as a mouse. With move, we will get that precision, coupled with great graphics.

  • http://twitter.com/Deimos1984ad Zak Mahmud

Yeah I’m not all psyched about the kinect at all in fact I could give a crap about it, as for the move, well if they cram out more gun games I could be interested, Time crisis Blazing Storm for instance but I’m not gonna get the move just for that, I can play it with my joystick.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shikiru Alain Erpelding

oh man , i laughed so hard at the end of the video. keep in mind it’s 4 am here and i woke the whole house, that’s how much i was laughing from this :D

  • Anonymous

Heres my opinion on the Move and Kinect (and motion gaming in general).

Move is clearly a cheap knock-off of the Wii. Instead of buying a PS3 with move (which in total will cost around $400) just buy a Wii ($199). If you already have a PS3 and are still itching for some wand-waving, then STILL just buy a Wii. Trust me, anything the Move will have will be something the Wii has already had for 2 years.

Kinect at least looks like its trying something a little different with the motion-sensitive gaming…its just a shame that all the games who look like they’re targeted to little 8 year old girls who probably don’t own a 360 anyways.

I pray that one day we’ll be rid of all this Motion-Sensitive gaming shit. It’s pointless. The games are never as good as regular controller-based games, AND I MEAN NEVER as good. The only reason Sony and MS are doing this is because they saw how much cash Nintendo made doing it, and want to copy the formula, so I guess I can’t really blame them.

Sorry you actually had to go up and dance…but at least it wasn’t as bad as “Frag Dude”. (If you know what that is, you know what I’m talking about).

  • Anonymous

    Down with motion control!

  • Anonymous

I can’t talk for the Kinect game, I lack of Knowledge of it. But I don’t buy these Wii dance games, really I can’t, there’s no need for 1% of precision in your movements in the game. It is a game that the only thing you must do to “win” is flipping the controle. This is way too casual for me, way too casual to me even believe that people are dancing in the front of a screen while they could be just flipping the control. The game can be insteresting for the first or the second time you play, but after it, you probably will never turn it on again. There is no challenge envolved in it, no motivation to play it, it goes as a standard casual game. Personaly, I feel offended by the publishers that release such a stupid thing.

    • Anonymous

Nintendo PR mentions “fun,” frequently. It turns out it was a mistranslation of the Japanese word for “gimmicky” or “5 minutes of brain-dead flailing and then moving onto real games on the PC/Xbox360/PS3.”

i’m not a fan of motion controls either, but saying that it just has to die is a little stupid, yes right now it’s not all good, but who knows, perhaps in the future, once our tech gets real upgrades we might be able to do awesome things with it.

also: don’t like it, don’t play it

  • Anonymous

Hopefully one once the Move and Kinect fail, and Nintendo finally comes out with a system that is able to compete spec wise. The companies will realize what a fad motion control is and stop giving it so much attention. But what pisses me off the most is that their actually going to through away a Zelda title on this BS, I mean it’s not like we get those very often.

  • Ineedballs

    That would be awesome! :-D

  • http://www.droppingpenny.de DP_Albert

It was never a fad, if it was a fad, it would be over somewhere in 2007/2008. If it has enough software, why not just be happy, someone does more than just push the graphics, and make the games expensive as hell with expensive dlc, just because they have higher resolution.
Zelda on the other hand works very well with the controlls as I could experience myself.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R3LZLLNJ4KQVONLLV32DE3IORY Akseli Ihansama

But how many games use it as a really integral part of the game instead of forcibly replacing normal controls with the motion controller counterparts? And in how many games does it work better than a normal controller? And the million dollar question: Are motion controllers really any better than just starting to make mouses (and keyboards) standard equipment for consoles?

It really baffles me that they are not already, seeing how consoles already double as internet browsers and most online games come with a text chat. And of course there are genres that have made a new home at consoles that would really benefit from them.

Instead we get really expensive motion controllers that will be rarely be more than gimmicks.

To be honest it should not be the question, how many games use it , rather than do games benefit from motion controlls, and they do at least on the Wii. Whenever it is an integral part or not is not the problem, but rather do they work, and they do very well. There are many games on the Wii that benefit from it’s controlls. What baffles me, is always to read posts from people who never had a wii bitching about motion controlls. There are lazy developers who want a quick buck, and they are everywhere, there are ones that just replace normal controlls with motion controlls, but there are also many developers for PS3/360 who just make another generic FPS for a quick buck, since everything they need to do is to have shiny textures and high resolution, even Call of Duty Series became a joke since it is just reskinning the previous games, like the Madden Series.

As a fan of dance games I have to say that Dance Central and Just Dance are not really that good. You should have tested Dance Masters/Dance Evolution at Konami.
A very good dance game for Wii would be We Cheer 2, even though it looks like horrible shovelware.

It’s a shame the PlayStation Move isn’t getting a very good start because it’s clearly the most accurate and responsive of the three.

Go Spoony!……What are you wearing on your head?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R3LZLLNJ4KQVONLLV32DE3IORY Akseli Ihansama

It kind of becomes a question of quantity when the controllers are so damn expensive. You don’t want to buy a Kinect (that costs 150$?) if you can’t find more than one or two good games that use it well. And you could argue about how many of the more well received Wii games really were made better by motion controls.

Wii however is different because the motion controller is the standard for it. For PS3 and 360 it’s just far too little far too late. It’s just so unlikely that a peripheral introduced at the middle of the consoles lifetime will ever be worth it’s price.

And I still say that universal mouse+keyboard support would do much more for consoles that motion controllers.

  • http://www.droppingpenny.de DP_Albert

Of course it does, but I was referring solely to the wii, since Kinect and Move didn’t work properly when I tried them at the Gamescom 2010 I tested 3 Games with each peripheral. I mean who would be so stupid to buy a peripheral that costs almost as much as the Wii anyway? To be more precise I agree completely on this, Motion controlls should be made standard or not used at all, because everything else splits the customers and the developers, and we know how well that worked with Sega CD and 32X. Universal Mouse and Keyboard support wouldnt’ really do any good since you cannot use them on your couch, and the Wii Remote makes the Mouse obsolete. From what I know PS3 and 260 Support Mouse and Keyboard so it is kind of done already, but hardly anyone uses it on their consoles.

Spoony, you’re completely wrong about Playstation Move. It’s not just about precision, it’s – finally – complete tracking of an object in 3d space: the sphere tracked by the camera makes a HUGE difference. Game journalists are more and more convinced about Move’s potential, and while some of the games are still too similiar to the stuff you see on Wii (of course, it’s a quick way to create softyware for the launch) there’s much more to uncover – like RTS controls on console, something that can’t be done on Wii. You’ve just played the wrong games and you still don’t understand how full 3d tracking can make a difference in game design – that’s something that Move tech demos explain better – but if Sony doesn’t screw up with bad marketing (there’s still a chance they will), you’ll have to eat your words in a few months.

Just to be clear, I hate most of the gesture-based games on Wii and the only game I’ve loved on that console is Capcom’s Zack & WIcky (still, some of the motion puzzles were frustrating, ’cause the wiimote didn’t track gestures very well). If motion control gaming is just what we’ve seen so far, then I’d hope it’s a fad that will die a horrible death; what I’ve seen on Move, on the other hand, instantly made me a believer. That kind of precision can improve games, ’cause it’s a transition from gesture gaming, something that makes you feel disconnected, to a simple form of “virtual reality” (now that’s a word you don’t hear much today) where you actually hold an object in your hand and everything you do is translated on the screen. Games like Echocrome 2 give a glimpse of that kind of future, where motion control isn’t a gimmick at all. The technology is there, now it’s just a matter of game design: if they want to cash in and create shallow family games like they did with the Wii, Move will fail; if they’ll have the courage to incorporate motion gaming on big budget projects we’ll see some interesting stuff. Just don’t say it’s only a Wii knock off, ’cause it’s not – and that’s a fact.

  • http://twitter.com/MoonDinosaur Benny

hard to completely agree with you on the move.

its not just a replica of the wii, its more of an upgrade. and smart move (pun intended) for sony. only 50 bucks for the move, where wii costs 200. which would you want, the 200 one that works pretty well, or the 50 bucks one that works far more better than the wii?

then if you would like friends to join you, 4 players locally is usually the common amount, so thats 200 bucks. same price as wii, yet better.

I don’t see why upgrade is considered a knock-off. to me a knock-off would be along the lines of replica of former product. sure it got its idea from the wii, but it didn’t just copy the wii, it enhanced it. making it its own.

maybe the launch games are knock-offs, but the move itself?

also, isn’t Kinect just a fancier playstation eye? why no mention of that? Kinect seems to have hardly improved from sony’s eye.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Richard-Abbott/100000298506145 Richard Abbott

I don’t even know where to begin with how wrong that comment is. The wii, console, controller and nunchuck costs about $200. Keyword there is “Console”. A PS3 plus the move? Roughly $450 for the PS3 slim plus a couple of games in a package deal and an extra $50 for the new PS3 Move and an extra $60 for a game to go with it then $150 for enough controllers for multiplayer. Altogether about $710. And then your stuck with a console which is renowned for having only 2 types of games. Increasingly bad jRPGs and Brown and Bloom shooters. Now there’s going to be some casual gaming in there too. I can’t believe you actually just compared the price of a single console against 4 peripherals for another console and omitted the price of the console you have to have to use the peripherals.

Also it is a direct rip off and a shamefully bad one at that. Do you know what Sony had to say about the Wii Remote when it was first shown off? They said it looks like a lollipop and they don’t have time for such things! And now they’ve noticed they have no games and need something to bolster sales before the PS3 sinks them so they rip off the best selling console.

But it’s not like this is anything new. Sony have ripped off Nintendo since the beginning. The N64 controller features one of the first analogue sticks. Shortly thereafter Sony give their PS1 controller an overhaul and give it two analogue sticks where originally it had none. When it was first announced that the wii is going to have motion controls Sony reacted sharply by putting in arbitary and poorly designed motion controls in the form of the “Six Axis” almost purely because they wanted to say “Yeah, we got dem motion controls!”.

Also the Sony Eye/ Eye Toy doesn’t do the same thing as the Kinect does. Whereas the Move does exactly the same damn thing the Wii Mote does except now it looks more like a lollipop/woman’s best friend.

Also while I’m letting my mouth run on like this, “far more better” is terrible english.

And sony stop wasting money and come up with something good for change, playstation move just doesn’t seem appealing.

Every video game company ripped off the previous creator. The Odyssey was ripped off by Atari. Atari was ripped off by Nintendo and Sega. Nintendo was ripped off by Sony (Sony used to develop parts for Nintendo). Microsoft ripped off Sony, Nintendo and Sega. Have you ever heard of the term reverse engineering, buddy? And you’re complaining that the Dual Shock 1 got analog sticks? Are you serious? Hell, even the Atari had an analog stick, just in the form of a joystick. You remind me of the kind of people that believe that Apple made the first MP3 player. Also, you do realize that it comes in a $99 package of the move controller, Eye and a game? Plus, most games will have FREE UPDATES, as in Heavy Rain and RE5 Gold, so you don’t need to re-buy games just to use Move.

Also, if you do a little research, a PS3 320GB bundle will be brought out for $399.99, which includes a 320GB Slim, DS3, Move Wand, Eye Toy and Sports Champions. Plus two games that will support the Move, such as Heavy Rain and RE5 Gold (both with free updates), will be about $540 after 6% taxes (unless you get it online, then is about $510). Add what you want to this list, but do correct math and actually take the damn time to DO RESEARCH before you speak.

No, you dont need a 150 pricetag, that is TRUE.
You need a what is it … 300-400 pricetag?

Because you need to buya piece of shit console with sucky games.
Then you need to buy the wii sets, for each player.
    And the fucking batteriers.

How does that compare to using a console that has decent games out.
150 bucks, and that is IT.
You don’t need extra controllers for each dancer.

THAT IS WRONG TO DESCRIBE IT AS A WIIMOTE RIP OFF, AS IT’S NOTHING SIMIALR TO THE UNRPECISION AND CRAP OF THE WII.

The MOVE has a TV CONTROLLER form factor, just happens to be that the wii has it too.
But tell me, what other SINGLE hand controller do you know?
We been using TV Controllers for DECADES, so…of course that when they needed to turn the sixt asis into a single hand controlelr, they went for the TV CONTROLLER FORM FACTOR.

There arent games worth playing on the fucking wii.

So you end upw asting money in controllers, batteries, and a console youw otn use.
-And youc ant even sue as a fuckign dvd player
The ps3 at the end of the day, if you cant find good games, you can still use it as a DVD,bluray player, rent movies and see youtube videos.

The xbox can do all that too, except youtube and bluray.

THE WII? The wii can collect dust and that is it.

Because it can NO fuckign do anything else besides reading the SUCKY piece of crap games that producers pop out every 3-6 moths, because they have low cycle investment
NO 3rd party is investing a decent amount of time and money to provide a good game in the WII.
The Wiis protection is the WORST of all the consoles.

What makes me laugh is I can basically ignore everything you just typed on the grounds that A, it’s a masterful bit of butthurt and B, you made the same mistake that last guy did. You stated the price of the peripheral and not the price of the console plus peripheral. The Kinect costs almost as much as a Wii and you could easily buy a used Wii for much less. The move is on the most expensive console this generation.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_6IT2CB72B2AKUWF56C35KOEXLU MarthvsDante

Richard Abott, you sir are very uninformed. The new ps3 160GB is 299, the new 360 250GB is 299; THEY ARE THE SAME PRICE. Also the ps3 has blu-ray…

  • Anonymous

    U mad bro?

  • Anonymous

The 360 250GB with Kinect, one controller and a game is $399.99. The PS3 320GB with Move, PS Eye, DS3 and a game for $399.99. And before the Xbox 360 got the built-in Wi-Fi, it was the most expensive console mainly because of both the purchase of the Wi-Fi connection and Xbox Live Gold, even though Gold is pretty much what you should get when you get a 360, and that itself is being raised in price by 10 bucks. Explain to me how the PS3 is the most expensive console. How aren’t the peripherals just as expensive, if not more expensive than what the PS3 has? Hell, even the 360 is coming out with a new controller that is $60 per. Still for retail, the Wiimote is $40 and the nunchucks are still $20, so right there, 60 bucks for a full controller set up for the Wii. The PS3 is free to play online and so is the Wii, but you have to pay for the 360. I would love to hear your explanation how the PS3 is the most expensive console on the market.

If they weren’t a fad then everyone be simply accepting of the Move and Kinect as necessary and not scrutinizing them so much. And no offence to your experience of Skyward Sword, but I’ve never played a game on the wii with that kind of control that didn’t have some hick-ups somewhere, not to mention that all I really have to go on was it’s horrible performance at the Nintendo’s E3 keynote. Personally I never intend to play a Zelda, or any other serious single player game in which I have to flail my arms about like that. It just doesn’t look fun.

  • http://www.droppingpenny.de DP_Albert

The performance on the E3 wasn’t good because the wii remote didn’t work properly I guess some connection problems. The game itself was very good. As for the Hickups I have never played a single game without some hickups in the controlls regardless of the controller. It is just that the hickups in normal games are more accepted. Zelda hoever worked very well at the Gamescom 2010 how I and many other people experienced. If it was bad or not working properly you would see the backlash like at Metroid Other M.
If it was a fad it wouldn’t get constantly that much of attention as it does now. When Nintendo introduced the gamepad, there were similar reactions. Since a “real gamer” plays with an arcade style joystick, or on a 16bit computer, and now it is standard.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_V7YJOI6GLXU7SZYVTUXAIUA2AI Common Thoughts

“If Sony and Microsoft were smart, they should have held off on motion controls until their next consoles came out. At least that way the controllers won’t be peripherals and look like unique selling points.”

Not for the next gen consoles…the Wii did that and honestly is the reason I don’t like the Wii. There isn’t too many games that offer the usage of normal controls, and the whole idea of adding the motion controls as peripherals to me is more appealing because it gives casual gamers (like myself) options to play traditional games with the controller or motion games. I would be highly upset if Sony or Microsoft decided to use only motion controls and quit using standard controllers. I actually like the idea that Sony and Microsoft are giving us options to use the motion controls now, but the idea could’ve came sooner (they both seem to be riding Nintendo’s coattails at this point). Motion games for the Wii are actually fun, but the lack of more adult themed games is limiting the kind of games available for most players to just the gimmick of motion control. I cannot say I would buy either Sony or Microsoft’s motion controllers at this point. If the games are only using the motion controls for the gimmick aspect and aren’t serious games, I may as well buy a Wii. But Spoony is right about both PS and Xbox coming late to the game, so they are already behind the power curve. For either the Move or Kinect to succeed they need game developers to launch titles that more serious gamers want (Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, God of War, etc) and make the motion controls something more integrated and less gimmick oriented.

Rule of the internet: When some fanboy accuses you of butt-hurt, means he has nothing to back up his comment.

Also, most expensive? I’m sorry, are you trap ON THE PAST?
What are you going to say next, “The ps3 has no games?”
Check your calendar, you might be surprise to know we are on 2010

    PS3 slim 160 GB 299
    It comes with:
    -Bluray
    -Controllers with built-in rechargeable battery.
    -wifi
    -It’s capable of 3D gaming.

    The wii is 199
    -It doesnt have bluray.
    -it doesnt even read dvds
-The controller doesn’t have built in rechargeable batteries.
-It you are older than 10, you wont find decent games.
-And all the bullshit add ons to play games like mario kart for example.
(The sixth axis beats the wiimote on that plastic wheel any day of the week”

    Sure… the wii it’s 100 bucks cheaper.
But it also doesn’t play movies.
Your wii will gather dust after you are sick of not finding decent games.
    Nor it has rechargeable batteries.

So those 100 bucks cheaper end up being nothing after you go and buy rechargeable batteries for all your controllers, and your plastic add ons.

    wii set: 49.99 + 19.99
    Move set: 49.99 + 29.99

10 bucks more expensive, but why spent 69.98 on a DEAD HORSE when you can spent 79.98 on one that still has useful life left.

The wii will never be able to offer you motion controller PLUS 3D in a single game.
The PS3 can, it’s just a matter of time.

And don’t go with the “graphics aren’t everything bullshit” because I’m not saying they are.

I had a nes[With power pad], a snes, a 64, a gamecube and then Nintendo let me down with sucky controllers on the wii.

I’m not a Sony fanboy. Until the wii I was actually a Nintendo kind of guy.
But this gen, PS3 clearly came out as the better option.

Richard, keep spending money on your dead horse.
I feel pity for those people that truly feel the ps3 is the most expensive console.

The wii IS the cheapest, in quality that is.
Because in no way it ends up being cheaper than a ps3

I have to agree with some of those who’ve defended the Move. It’s definitely following in the footsteps of the Wii motion control, but that control (at least with MotionPlus, which Move is superior to) is perfectly fine. The primary limitation is not the motion control technology, it’s the hardware in the console itself to make it do something worthwhile.

The early Move software looks rather dull, but once we start getting things like Killzone 3 and hopefully some good third party titles the hardware should prove it’s worth. I enjoyed FPS controls on the Wii, the problem was the machine was generally not capable of doing them justice.

I saw FIGHT at the Comic Con and I was like….uhm…ok. I agree the stick thing for the PS 3 is VERY UNRESPONSIVE! It seemed like the demo guy was getting his butt kicked by the first guy while the guy was trying to throw basic punches n stuff but the gameplay wasn’t following through the flow of the controls. I was like “what a POS”. I felt like I got more out of the 3D games which looked half bad but there’s no way in a cold day in hell I’m going to get a 3D TV plus the 3D glasses to play the 3D PS 3 games. that’s like….$5,300? minus getting a PS3? Maybe?
I don’t remember them presenting Kinect but I remember the dance game which looked fun as well as the new Rockband game + guitar.

Question Spoony…Are you going to show up at the Sandiego Comic Con? Because I still swear you showed up one year.

Trust me…my entire family has now watched this video with me dancing with Spoony. A screen cap will be featured inside our Christmas card and my cousin is trying to make it a youtube meme video…*gunshot*

You know, I’m bookmarking this video. That way the next time I come out from hospital I’ll take one look at it and I’ll feel better than 4 tablets of 5 mg oxycontin hydrochloride. Thankyou Spoony, you’ve made my day.

Thanks, Spoony. You put joy back into one of the worst days I’ve had in the last decade.

    Keep on dancing.

Did… did I hear some girl in the background say you have a “hot mullet?”
