Spoony and Pat the NES Punk review the 4th Highlander movie in the franchise. Part 1 of 3.
More to come tomorrow!
hm, it is strange that the only thing I have to say right now (besides when will 2 and 3 be there) is something that immediately bothered me:
Of course you die if you get your foot clean cut off and it is untreated. From blood loss. Relatively quickly.
And… yes, the shot is still incredibly stupid from any cinematographic point of view. But… covering shit with more shit doesn’t make it a hot fudge sunday.
Ah, god, I don’t even know why I’m complaining, somehow I couldn’t stop thinking about it through the rest of the review… dunno why it even bothered me that much…
Relative to what? I’m quite certain shearing a foot off doesn not result in immediate death.
Actually BakaNanashi is correct.
The blood loss involved with slicing someone’s foot off would lead to death within minutes…. nothing leads to “Immediate” death unless you’re borderline hit with a Disintegrate spell.
There are actually a number of things that can cause “immediate” death, most involving the brain. There’s debate over things like spinal damage in certain areas, but if you count “a few seconds” as “immdiate” then that’s a few issues right there. In the same vein, sudden blood loss can lead to other conditions, like a stroke, and kill “immediately.” Sudden trauma can also cause shock and death. Heavy rounds of bulelts, if they strike a foot, can actually kill you due to the force being inflicted upon your body. None of this matters, however, as Baka, Sumatran, Arche and myself can probably all agree that even if the man was given an epic ten minute death scene acted by BRIAN BLESSED it still wouldn’t change the fact that this movie is far, far worse than any of the injuries I just described.
Cutting off his foot should kill him..eventually. It still should take a least a BIT longer than what we’re shown here. Just another poor scene that makes no sense.
Yeah, you do die, unless you get a tourniquet and fast. Plus I think it’s entirely possible that the guy passed out from shock and/or pain, leaving him bleeding out helplessly and quietly. That’d explain why he went down so quick and didn’t writhe in pain for a couple of minutes.
Such an abrupt stop.. I actually sat through the commercial at the end expecting it to continue for some reason.
good start, nice introduction to pat the nes punk (ive never heard of him) but it ends abruptly – need to have a fade and TBC at the end – because it was really abrupt how pats voice turned into the effeminate kid from Glee
That other guy is really annoying
Agreed, Spoony can be a little irritating…
Oh wait, you may be talking about me.
I could clarify if you’d like. The last way I’d like to be seen is as an angry anonymous internet commenter.
My issue is with your comedy style. Your style seems dependent on seemingly random outbursts and repetition. The problem with the former is that random quips don’t always equate to comedy. The latter, more grievous one is hard to pull off. Driving a joke into the ground like you did is almost never effective.
I don’t doubt that you could be funny with some refinement (and I mean that in the English-teacher-grading-an-essay way, not the snobby way). In this video, however, I found you to be more vexing than humorous.
I appreciate the criticism. Not everyone’s sense of humor is the same. Some like my style, some don’t. Thanks for watching!
Good review so far. I wasn’t sure about the other guy at first. But, he was pretty good. You guys make a good team.
I have to agree. I had my doubts but he’s showing himself to be quite a capable reviewer himself. I thoroughly enjoyed this part of the review and am waiting patiently for the next parts. Thanks Spoony. :)
Ignore them- I think this was a clever set up. and, let’s be fair- SpoonyOne and Pat the NES Punk have very similiar speaking voices so calling one annoying… is… you know…
Great thingy! More more!
This is like 90% plot summary. What happened to your trademark commentary?
Can we get a Non Pat the NES kid version of the review? He doesn’t strike me as being too funny. He doesn’t have the same chemistry like you and Lewis… it seems pretty obvious that most of your lines are put in afterwards. And yes I agree…. we needed a better ending… I thought Blip did something weird like have a middle commercial until I was like.. huh I guess not. That was end part 1
I really like Pat, seems not everyone does though.
I’ve been watching his videos for awhile now, I like that he has his own style. No other reviewer I’ve seen is like him.
I sort of agree, I didn’t find Pat all that amusing, and the jokes seemed rather forced. But it was still an interesting review.
This is my first exposure to Pat, and I gotta say… I kind of liked his narrative style. I’m surprised I didn’t know about him up til now.
I’ll be sure to watch all of Pat’s other videos as soon as midterms are over.
Why couldn’t you do this yourself…?
And why shouldn’t he do it this way?
…If I happened to bribe some hotel guy into getting your room number and went ahead and came in and happened to know about the subject matter you happened to be reviewing… could I be a guest commentator?
Brilliant! We want more, Mr. Spoon.
Btw, I prefer your solo work, but I can appreciate you giving a new guy a shot at fame.
I think Mr. Spoon is a pretty cool guy, eh reviews videos and doesn’t afraid of anything.
I saw this in the theater when it was released. I had never seen the television show and vaguely remember being confused. It is actually one of the most forgettable things I’ve ever watched and the only thing I can really recall was thinking the actor that played the villain was the best part. It goes without saying I was never compelled to go back and watch the series.
Okay, I have no idea who Pat the NES Punk is and I guess he’s not that well-known yet. The video doesn’t give us any explanation or context and his introduction is really awkward. Which makes this…a confusing team-up that goes over the heads of a lot of the audience. Kind of like…the movie. I, uh, can’t decide if that was a brilliant meta-joke or just an oddball coincidence.
I.e. “I don’t know that guy so this crossover sucks”?
I didn’t say it sucked. I just wondered if that was an intentional part of the joke or just my perspective. Seriously, chill out, just because you’re a fan doesn’t mean you have to bludgeon everything you interpret as critical.
I sense a flood of negative comments in the near future.
Nothing quite as satisfying as waking up to find Spoony has posted a new Highlander review. Sir, I’d be happy for every review to be Highlander-based, there’s just a neverending supply of shite in this particular franchise. First movie excluded, of course.
Agreed! Looking forward to the Source. Hell, might as well review HL 3 for good measure!
Lol, I live in Ravenna in Italy and do not remember such a huge palace with red curtains… XD
Some of the glaring continuity issues that piss me off weren’t mentioned.
Connor wasn’t killed by bullets in the second movie, so why the hell was the Asian immortal? How could all these Immortals have survived to the present day, if Connor claimed the prize at the end of the first movie?
They used titanium bullets. :)
I haven’t seen this movie since I saw it in theaters as a wee young fangirl of the tv series. I was so incredibly confused by it, as well as disappointed because I (naive thing that I was) had been so excited to see a Highlander movie with all the characters that I loved.
I love this movie, I’m sorry to say. And I’m Scottish. But I see how you can criticise it. :)
Alright… To begin with, I want to say that the content of this video is good. Both you and Pat act decently and make a good review team. I can’t wait to see the rest.
Saying that however, I feel I must mention the editing and camera work in this video, which feels… off. As a generic internet pod person who has no experience with camera work and editing, I’m probably not the one to criticise, but saying that, I’ve watched enough film commentaries to know that good editing and good camera work isn’t supposed to noticed by plebs like me. Unlike with your normal videos and sketches, I felt almost every edit during the live action portions in this review.
I’m hoping that this will come off as constructive, rather than a “you guys suck” comment, but we shall see.
There were moments of decent camera work and editing, the conversation at the door as one example, but elsewhere the camera work, and concequently the editing suffers from bad positioning. When both you and Pat are on the sofa the camera starts of by swinging wildly between you two before the editor finally starts to cut between you as you say your lines. The combination of cuts and pauses that are either a few milliseconds too short, or a few milliseconds too long leave the dialogue feeling unnatural and stilted, regardless of the good delivery by you both. There’s another point in the video which is left uncut and the dialogue is natural, but the positioning of the camera, focused completely on Pat, leaves you “mostly” off screen. Also, as others have mentioned before me, the final cut for this part left a lot to be desired. I question the need to cut the video into 3 parts in the first place, but if it was felt to be required, then there really needed to be a “To be continued” screen.
I say again that I have no complaints regarding the actual content of the video. I’m thoroughly enjoying the trashing of the film by both you and Pat, even if, on occasion Pat’s contributions can be a touch quiet. However, I did feel that the camera work and editing needed mentioning. I’m certainly not expecting perfection from a couple of guys on the internet, but I am hoping that I have given some constructive feedback to help the camera operator and editor of this video to improve their skills, even if my qualifications to criticise this sort of thing comes from the school of “Jack and Sh*t” after Jack left town. :p
Hey Anthony… I appreciate the criticism. In regards to “a few milliseconds” here or there longer/shorter, that is up to individualistic taste. It depends on factors such as what the intent of the conversational tone is, how much “breathing room” is needed or not, etc. The tone of the scene gets factored in somewhat when decisions like that are made. One editor may prefer one method, another editor another. As for that specific shot you mentioned, I don’t want to break down fourth walls too much, but sometimes unplanned ad-libbing happens during shots, and it ends up being more effective than anything planned upon review later. : p
Thanks for watching!
Pat, you are far too defensive of your stuff. As an editor, let me tell you, these critics are RIGHT. Your editing is too slow and lacks rhythm. Editing is only PARTIALLY due to taste, and it is partially due to what objectively works and what doesn’t.
Yeah, I was toooootally being defensive there. I think I even drove to Anthony’s house and slashed his tires.
Screw you haters! I like Pat the NES Punk!
I’ve been waiting for this one for a while. I used to really love the show when it was first on so I was really excited when this movie came out, then I went to see it in the theater and man it made no sense whatsoever. Looking forward to the rest.
The point in time that Duncan met Methos has nothing to do with Connor knowing him.
Ah… So that’s Pat the Nes Punk.
Well, I guess I won’t be seeing much of him in the future.
Nice review so far, though I’d have preferred it as a whole rather than split up.
Scrolling down the comments I saw a few of the isolationist nutjobs are crawling out the woodwork with the “anything but Spoony sucks” shit again…come on people, get a fucking grip, Spoony having a hand in exposing less well known reviewers to a wider audience is a good thing. He exposed me to Brad’s work, and it’s very good of him to use his higher profile to help other reviewers.
Please stop with this ‘Nothing But Spoony’ shit, it’s awfully sad….i’d put it on a par with the Twilight fan levels of insanity and inappropriate devotion.
Well, if Spoony started exposing this dude in his hotel room, that WOULD probably increase video traffic, but at that point this would become a totally different sort of site. And the word “spoon” would start to take on entirely different sorts of context…
It was a really fun video, but it wasn’t as good as usual. What I like about Spoony’s videos, is that the subject of his review is as important as Spoony himself, like a second main character. Most of Spoony’s videos (even the ones made with Linkara) are done that way.I enjoyed both of you in this video, but I personally think the subject needs a bit more focus. You didn’t let me feel the atmosphere of the movie, understand your opinions – you were too dominant. It’s a really subjective feeling, but I hope you understand what I mean.
Yeah, I see what you meant when you said this review would be different, because it’s made in the style of the other reviewer. The beginning of the video was a bit odd.
The end was kinda abrupt too. Should have cut somewhere else or left the video in one piece.
The buildup to the review was great, but it feels like… like the timing on the jokes are just a fraction of a second too late. The quips themselves are fine, but they feel more like an afterthought than a reaction to the movie. Looking forward to the next part!
wooohooo privateer 2 ketchup :D
I thought they pulled that off the market after it turned people’s shit red?
Before watching the video, I read a few comments below and most of them were bashing this Pat fellow. Now after the video I find there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the guy. Funny dude. I really don’t get all the constant hate on this site. I thought the video was a fresh change of pace.
at first i was skeptical but you got me on the hook. i’ll watch part 2 :)
I actually like Pat a bit (not as good as Spoony, but hey, you can’t measure everybody against Spoony and not get disappointed pretty often). The only real problem I had was that all the while they were talking about the bad editing job the movie had, and it ended with just a cut to an ending ad… I had to re watch the ending to make sure my wi-fi hadn’t crapped out there. And if it was a joke, it wasn’t done very well… and that was a simple thing to make a joke with; just some throw away line about how piss-poor the editing was cut off in the middle by a cut to the ending ad.
Great job guys. Spoony you’re awesome as always. Pat started kinda slow and the scene in the doorway could have been a little better but when the actual review started, the guy is very funny and is very knowledgeable about what he’s talking about. Also you two had really good timing together. I’ve never seen the guy before but now I feel that I need to give his stuff a try at least. I can’t wait for part 2 thank you for watching these movies so we don’t have to.
I liked this video. Some people are saying the “end” was too abrupt, but my guess is that the video wasn’t originally meant to be cut into three parts and just ran very long.
I’ve never heard of Pat before this, but I’m interested enough to go see what he’s all about now. I think the fact you two did this together keeps the whole Highlander thing fresh, personally.
Anyway, good work by both of you so far. Can’t wait to see the rest :)
You’re correct, the parts aren’t really meant to be stand-alone pieces. They’re just split because rendering and uploading one huge ass file would be extremely daunting. Part 2 has a somewhat better cut-off point. :p Thanks for watching.
Donnie Yen fight scene is pretty badass. Hope he gonna be later in the movie… Or it’ll suck…
When Spoony turned back to his room I was almost certain that Pat will stab him xD.
wipes his ass with a feather WTF XD i see why they cut that scene.
Why does Pat always sound like a whining 5 year old? most of his jokes fall flat and it just seem like their no chemistry between him and Spoony
Love them fork takes, the more talented, and sexy brother of spit takes.
Does Pat the NES Punk advocate the ways of Straight Edge?
Good stuff. Pat does seem to be growing on me, bit by bit.
But I gotta tell ya: the episode cut-off was brutal here, it just seemed to peter out.
Donnie Yen was in this movie? He should have made this movie awesome. He’s like Jet Li, only younger and freaking scary.
10:22 Blinking dead guy alert!
My only problem with how the end was cut is I got a *bleep*ing ‘Fashion Show’ ad overlapping the last few seconds. Tolerating the ads at the start because they help with revenue is one thing, but when they start interfering with the actual video, that’s where I draw the line *deep breath**rant over*
Great video, though I do have to agree with some that have mentioned the odd pacing. There were times when Spoony said something and Pat tacked on a comment/joke and it felt too jarring, as if there was no interaction going on between the two at all. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to watching the next two parts :)
I have a question. If the hotel, where the two reviewers are staying, is on holy ground, are they still allowed to do reviews? :D
Duh. If it was a theatrical review, yes they would. If it was a DVD review, then no.
Loved the Privateer intro, but after that… I just kind of wished the whole video was just Spoony. I don’t want to be mean to the other guy but he just does not come across very well in this.
my god there are more flashbacks then a steven king movie
That many flashbacks… did J.J. Abrahams created Lost after watching this?! That would explain the stupid ending.
Also, about the review itself: it feels strange maybe because Pat and Spoony have different styles and it was their first review together. Even so, the result is very enjoyable, so whatever, whiners. Not every review Spoony does with a friend will be the Alone in the Dark one.
Also again, damn you two for bringing memories about this. I saw this horrid piece of junk in theater, ALONE. No friend that day to share the pain. IT STILL HURTS!
Who the fuck is that annoying prick of a guy, and why the fuck did he ruin a review I’ve been waiting for. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
guys please be nice constructive criticism is great but you are just being a troll
While I agree that spoofing an account to make the same tired comment that wasn’t funny to begin with…. yeah definitely not cool.
Let’s somewhat analysis what he said:
“That annoying prick of a guy.”
I don’t know if he’s joking around with liking Privateer 2, but suggesting it’s a good game and coming after Spoony for trash talking it… It would be like if SPike TV came to him for the DEadliest Warrior Review. (and personally, as I’ve said, bad chemistry between the two… They just don’t play off each other like Lewis and Noah.)
“Ruin a review I’ve been waiting for”
To be fair… Spoony never said that he was doing all those Highlander Reviews on his own… and yet… The sudden introduction to Pat is not memorable just kinda weird…. And after all these reviews that had the central theme of Highlander… we were drawn into the false sense that Spoony was doing an ULTIMA Retrospective-esque review on his own. So yes.. it is a bit jarring to see an extra nerd we’ve never met reviewing a movie that sucks bad enough for Spoony to savage alone.
No no, the line is: “Oh my GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!”
Let’s take it again.
constructive criticism is nice, but nobody is obligated to diliver it,
it is all about taste – for you this Pat guy is ok, for me he is not funny, just whiny and annoying,
i dont mind crossovers in general however
Oh snap! NES Punk is wearing a Slime T-shirt!
Loved the beginning, and I am loving this reveiw. Can’t wait to see how it will end.
i feel like pat’s volume needs to be higher; i could barely hear him in the intro and i don’t catch half of what he says during the course of the review…
Nice, I like Pat. YOURE OKAY PAT!
Wouldn’t a good way around the “no killing on holy ground” rule have been for them to have a mortal henchman who does the decapitations? Judging from what has been shown, that should still transfer the power to an immortal if one is nearby.
Or not transfer the power, but still get rid of your enemies, which might be more important to you. Obviously you, Timo, put more thought into this than anyone involved with the film. Which is to say, any thought.
Piss-poor performance at Pat’s side….which is that more hard to look at because of pretty decent acting from Noah. Good vid but next time Spoony should choose his crossover partners more carefully.
You just prove why Spoony’s fans are notorious. Pat is great, I’ve been watching his videos for a year. His style is different, just because he isn’t your idol, Spoony, doesn’t mean he’s crap. If anything, Spoony seemed more uncomfortable and out of place in this video, it’s definitely more in Pat’s style.
There’s room for everyone, stop being a bitch.
Amen to that, if people keep bitching about crossover and such the mans gonna be out of business by his own fan dumb.
Pat’s stuff is actually more often in Correlation with Screwattack, and the simple fact that the two worked together is great.
It’s TGWTG Meets Screwattack it’s made of win.
So, if I just randomly burst into Spoony’s hotel room at some point after I manage to get my own review series up and running, he is obligated to review something with me? Hmm… interesting… VEEEERY interesting. I must now plan out how to kick open the door to the hotel room he is staying in at some unknown point in the future whilst holding a copy of System Shock 2, so that we can co-op review it or some such, and he’d HAVE to, cos it’s the LAW.
Hmm, I’m not big on Pat, though I don’t mind him when compared to a number of other reviewers. No, I’m not doing the typical Spoony-Fan thing and hating on Pat cos he ain’t Spoony and yet is in a vid on the Spoony-Site. I’m mature like that. :-P
i like pat and i am liking this review i can wait for the next one
but i need to say when will we the Highlander be loved and not just taken to the back of the shed to be used and abused? when i ask when V_v
No way… Edge was in this? That surpirsed me. I think I like Pat, I might look at some of his other stuff.
I wish one of these beginning or ending ads started off and ended with an explosion. :D At least then they’d be interesting.
Pat the NES Punk seems like quite the chipper fellow, his energy is really enjoyable. Reminds me a little of Film Brain and 8-Bit Mickey. :D
I remember the WWE hyping up Edge’s appearance in the movie and was under the impression he was going to have a bigger role in it. Guess not.
Good job both of you.
Great review so far, and I like Pat the NES Punk from what I can see, I wonder if his personal videos stand up to this.
Possible spoiler to the review(?):
Also, I am completely expecting a Highlander joke at the end of the third video since you started talking about “The rules of internet reviewers”, and since I doubt your hotel is holy ground, there can be only one.
RIP Pat The NES Punk, you were funny as far as I could tell :P
Spoony: Just you and a review item from now on, if you could. I think the TRAX videos are the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, but every review where you try to incorporate other people just seem forced and uncomfortable. Simplicity is key to this kind of thing. Just ask AVGN.
This is an awesome crossover! Both reviewers are among my favourites. Funny I didn’t notice until today though, since I’ve been waiting this since announcement. Gonna watch the second part now. :P
This was a very informative review. But it wasn’t a very funny review. Needs more jokes please. Hopefully Part 2 is better, i’ll catch it when i get home from work.
I have to admit that I enjoy the difference between Pat and his upbeatness and Spoony’s general snark.
Whoa didn’t expect to see a Sore Thumbs ad on there, Funny review over all. “It was cut from the theatrical version” Heard many many times.
“It’s a misdemeanor in some states! You know this!”
“Oh shit. You’re a reviewer?”
Hehehehehe you could see the pain on the face of the Spoony One as he realized he was caught.
That rock that Edge casually holds above his head probably weighs upwards of 500 pounds….
Uh…rock’s were lighter four hundred years ago?
It’s probably sad that the only reason I rented this movie, way back when, was because Edge was in it and I didn’t find WWF painful to watch at the time.
To start off, I’d like to point out that I’m a massive fan of most online critics, and rarely have a bad thing to say, I often remain the quiet observer who only has a few grumbles here and there but nothing that makes me feel the need to act. Again I’d hope you take this as concrit not just blatant, aggressive criticism, as I mean no such harm.
Having said that I find this review incredibly hard to sit through and at most times it just seems to drag. Whilst I’d say the dialogue was ‘off’, that would just be way too general and not a help to anyone. I don’t feel like I’m ‘dragged’ into this review as an audience member, I don’t share your anger at the movie to the point where I find myself going, ‘So what?’.
Having never been a fan of the Highlander series (I’m afraid I’m one generation short) the sheer hatred and fan abuse this film causes is just lost on me. A well written review should drag me in to the point where by the end I’m screaming and yelling at my screen.
As an actual media student I can definitely see that with a few tweaks to your editing the timing issue could easily be solved. Don’t be afraid to use quick cuts between dialogue; if dialogue’s left open for too long the audience will lose interest and simply zone out. I’m well versed in this mistake myself as it one thing I used to trip on a lot when I first started out.
The delivery itself could be worked on too. I’ve no idea of the time frame you guys had to work on this and I’ve no doubt you did your best with what you had, but man it feels rushed. The shots seem like they where just whatever take worked, rather than what was the best delivery, and some of the camera work really makes me lose interest fast. Pick your angle and stick with it and for God’s sake don’t move the camera so quickly when someone else speaks, shot reverse shots are just as easy and look a whole lot more professional.
With that being said this whole thing just comes off as indulgent. Not to sound derogatory but it plays off like a fan boy who’s met his idol. I’m NOT saying that’s the case, but the dialogue isn’t equally shared and you just don’t seem to work off each other. Spoony seems more pissed than his usual ‘arrogant snarky’ -self whilst Pat just appears like a friggin’ kid in a sweet shop. The lines at most times are mumbled, and again, the delivery just isn’t there. You’re not making me want to endure this film with you, I just feel like some ‘not arsed’ observer.
One thing that’s probably just me being the anal video editor that I am is that the incredibly brutal ending could have been softened. I know you meant for this to be one long review, and I understand that, but it really wouldn’t have been that hard to add a simple fade at the end with a ‘check for part two’ title or something.
Overall there’s real potential here it just needs more work. I’m not flaming or anything childish like that, I’m just giving my honest opinion on what could be a really great review. I’m usually a fan of crossovers/collaborations as it’s an area where most reviewers really shine, especially when they bounce their wit and humour off each other.
Hope all this rambling was of some use anyway! :)
I appreciate the criticisms, however shotgunned they may be in this case. I won’t comment on too much of the creative process on this one as to not shatter the 4th wall any more than I already have. That information could speak to or quell some of what you’ve stated, but looking again, maybe it wouldn’t.
However, what I will comment on is editing, which I have a good amount of experience with. As I noted elsewhere, editing style is highly subjective and depends upon the taste of the specific individual. “Quick-cut” dialog to me though is absolutely horrendous. Not only is it overused to artificially create better dialog than what actually exists on the page, it’s entirely unnatural in reality. Real conversations are not rapid-fire, tit-for-tat spewings that could only occur if they were pre-fabricated and pre-memorized by the participants. They are sometimes slower, awkward, and not exactly perfect. People often in conversation react to what is said and may take a moment to think of a response. Quick-cuts in dialog remove this element entirely. In my videos I tilt closer to reality (if you can call it that), and as such, that is the editing style I prefer. I shy away from the editing ADD style that while snappy, sometimes reeks of stylistic hollowness. That’s not to say that it can’t work in some instances, say an action scene (for example the finale of my Rush N’ Attack ), but for conversational editing, it’s not my groove.
I’m going to have to defend Pat on this one. First of all, you people are nitpicking WAY too much. I thought Pat was a breath of fresh air. It was cool to have a review that was not heavily scripted for a change. Second, I didn’t think he was boring, annoying etc at all. If anything I laughed as much at his dialogue as I did Spoony’s. It was also a refreshing change of pace to see a review where one of the people didn’t have to use curse words so much. I like Spoony but his use of foul language so often really feels like he’s becoming lazy. I am glad Pat did this because I really enjoy the work on his website.
Your editing is too slow for comedy, Pat. Sorry. It has nothing to do with ADD, and everything to do with rhythm and flow and comedic TIMING, a concept that seems lost on you.
I have to agree with Hannah on this when it comes to the delivery of the dialogue. It was really off. You two didn’t seem to play off each other like Spoony usually does with the other reviewers he teams up with. It almost feels like the punk played the role of the intruding reviewer a little too well. It felt like he kinda took over the first half. The punk’s voice is really monotone and he always seems to be mumbling. I honestly didn’t start enjoying it until Spoony started talking again. I know it probably sounds bias, because Spoony is the reason why I’m here, not for the punk. But the punk tells jokes which you think are supposed to be funny but everything he says sounds so half-hearted, like there’s no confidence or style or character. I’m hoping this will get better as it goes along. I was looking forward to Spoony reviewing this but unfortunately so far the punk is kinda ruining it. Maybe check the peep hole on your hotel room door before opening it next time Spoony.
As for editing I have no comment as I have little editing experience and didn’t notice (yet) the things Hannah has mentioned.
The bikers are the Knights Who Say ‘Ni!’
Who uses Lycos??
Wow, that Kraft recipes commercial was the most painful thing to watch in this video. Holy canned laughter Batman!
So where do I get my Monk action figure with holy ghetto grip.
I forgot Edge was in this movie, I read about it in his book.
why cant this series stop sucking
Ah heaven, my fave reviews from you are without a doubt are all things Highlander and Final Fantasy, those series of reviews are so much, so much relentless bashing, so many jokes, they are great….and Other M…infact can you review more Metroid games?
Just to point out (this might be somewhere here in comments already, didn’t check) Aarniokoski is a finnish surname. Never heard of him either though.
Hey spoony, I know you’re busy as hell and might not see this but I was wondering If you have seen HighLander The search for Vengeance. Its an animated movie and its surprisingly awesome, great reviews as always. Peace dude.
Yes. He has. And he’s not reviewing it, because it didn’t suck.
Hmmm…. I will have to look for it.
While I did think it was better than, say the Quickening or the Source (wouldn’t take much), I still thought Search For Vengeance was lame. To me, the action was dull and waaaaaaaaaay to over the top for Highlander (I still wish the style used in the show or the first film would be used) the plot was generic and it just didn’t feel like Highlander to me.
Aarniokoski if a finnish name.
Peter Wingfield as Methos.. acted better as Tanith in Stargate SG-1. LOL Edge in a movie!
hey spoony i love what you have done so far but i was wondering if you would ever review the first HighLander movie that would be awsome
Is there going to be a review of Highlander: The Final Dimension?
Sorry. Spoony has stated numerous times that he kind of liked Highlander 3 if only because it was kind of a return to form for the Highlander series
i dont care how fresh or cool it is to have this “pat nes punk” guy in ur review spoony….he’s NOT funny and ruined this review …ok ….repeat NOT FUNNY ….no seriously …i wasnt laughing at anything this guy had to offer ….spoony …. i think ur best to review stuff alone and shoud avoid these half hearted …half way schmucks that just drag ur reviews into stagnant lameness and recycled joke material ….and just because he has ”nes the punk” in his name….it does not validate him as being relatable or funny to ur audience….at least to me …this one is just bad ….i watch these reviews to get a good laugh the way YOU do it spoon….not these wanna b’s .
You know they don’t just write their own portions of the script independently, right?
Doesn’t matter, Pat’s delivery is bad, he’s uncharismatic and annoying to listen…even with the best material, shitty comic is still shitty.
And yah, Pat butt-fucked the entire review with how lame he was.
Yeah, he was pretty bad… but it could’ve been worse… it could’ve been Film Brain.
Ok I’m going to give this review another shot, because Pat was really really funny in his crossover with the AVGN.
what review is that?
So…Endgame just completely ignores the Quickening???
Pretty much every Highlander movie ignores the one before it.
The review is great… the movie is terrible.
Here’s a question why does Methos not appear in the original Highlander movie? Or in any other movie after the original? Seriously wouldn’t a 5,000 year old immortal be drawn to New York in the original gathering? Like Connery, who is also like a 5,000 year old immortal, dies in the battle before the gathering to the Kurgan. Seriously Methos actually existing is a plot hole in the this movie and the next one.
I like my idea for the immortals once one wins the game he can have a kid and that kid’s kid the 2nd generation from the original immortal is immortal after he is killed for the first time. (a plot point from the original movie) I don’t know the idea has been running around in my head ever since I saw the original movie and your (Spoony’s) review of the second movie. (which is stupid, idiotic, and silly all combined) I guess its not worth the effort to resurrect/save this franchise or someone would have tried already. So technically Connor Wouldn’t have a mom because SHE Would BE DEAD!
Umm…I think they already tried…lol! watch Spoony’s review of Highlander: The Source.
Hey! Douglas is a Finnish director. Well one more Finnish director that made horrible… horrible movies for us!
How do you mean “one more”?
Well for instance Renny Harlin is a Finnish director and he directed Nightmare on Elmstreet 4 and Cutthroat Island which I think that are very bad movies. But thats ofcourse only my opinion.
Yeah, but he also made Die Hard 2.
Yeah I know. I ment only that for some reason when a Finnish director makes a bad movie he/she does it really good… or bad . I think that Douglas has made atleast one diecent or good movie. If you think that the Austin Power movies are funny and he was making the first Spy Kids movie
I know that Renny made Die Hard 2 which is one of my favorite movies. He also made Cliffhanger and Deep Blue Sea… which is the other movie hes famous of… even though I don´t get why.
So what I ment with my comment was that when a Finnish director makes a bad movie they make the movie really bad.
Spy Kids blew nagas. And what did Douglas have to do with Austin Powers?
I’m somehow suspecting you just looked at his IMDB-page.
Yeah, and when a director of another nationality makes a bad movie, they make it a good one?
I think you just have something against our proud country.
Hell NO! I´m not against my country. I think you understood me wrong I do love Rennys movies… mostly. Cliffhanger- AWESOME. Die Hard2- LEGEND.
Douglas was the second director or whatever the names in english I´m not sure in Austin powers international man of mystery.
And no. I´m not checking IMDb- page I just know a little bit about Finnish director and writers that have made it good in the US. But actually I think I have said everything I know about Renny and I didn´t even know that Doug directed this movie I only knew about Spy Kids and Austin Powers.
And hey its not my problem if you don´t trust me but I didn´t look this stuff from IMDb.
I ment that when a Finnish director makes a bad movie he does a good job at making it bad. For instance Rennys cutthroatisland made only 10 million$ when the budget was 100 mil. That made him stop for a while.
Damn these comments look silly.
Was he? Hmh, I didn’t know that. Not really that big of a contribution, though.
Anyhow, no need to get so damn defensive. I’m just saying, you’re listing movies in a very suspiciously similar manner as IMDB.
Again, do other directors’ bad movies make a shitload of money?
Yeah I think you´re right I mean 10 million is A LOT but compared to the budget it´s little.
And you´re right these comments look silly :). Yah I know I might get a little too defensive sometimes but whadda ya say if we´re gonna stop posting these weird comments before it gets out of hand.
P.S Actually I have to admit I checked a little bit of Douglas directing history cause I wasn´t sure that if he had made any good/decent movies. So there was no reason for me to write that stuff before. No hard feelings?
Yeah, we probably should stop here. We’re not even getting anywhere, really.
NO I HAET U NAO!!!11!!11!!!!!!½½½½
yeah, but Die Hard 2 wasnt all that great either. it was slow and plodding and didnt have much going for it short of sort out McClane’s life. .. . for the most part.
I dunno, I liked it. Maybe I just loved the first one so much, that I automatically liked the next one too.
WOA!!! The leader of the biker gang is the same guy who leads the cannibal gang in Highlander: the Source! Compare costumes, they are exactly the same!!
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE…INTERNET REVIEWER!
What review was it that had the weird facial warp in it? I thought it was this one. I can’t remember much about it, but the character’s face warped a bit then went back.
Was it even a spoony review?
Madness of Roland Review.
Thank you so much for the Dr. Frightenstein’s table reference. My dad wrote for that show and it’s always been one of my favorites.
Holy Shit, Donnie Yen was in this? That’s terrifying.
