Spoony. If you want to get healthy you should try out my miracle cure. It’s entirely unscientific but I want you to try it anyway. Clean your hands or make your brother clean his hands and then you/he make a food which you must work with your hands to do. If you want something extremely easy to make you should make a pie or a meatloaf, but I recommend a pie. Eat it and later you’re going to feel much better… hopefully.

EDIT: Make sure you/he washes your hands very carefully or else you might get worse.

Howard fans seem to be pretty divided over the merits of Conan the Barbarian as a film, but yeah, most don’t really see it as an adaptation so much as Elseworlds Conan.

The end of Blazing Saddles has the Chinese theater playing Blazing Saddles, but I think Mel Brooks handled it way better.

As for the Mario bros movie, I didn’t mind it when I was younger but it’s unwatchable for me now.

I got through sliders all the way up through season 4. The way i did it was, i fooled myself into thinking i was following a completely different set of Sliders between season two and three. I reasoned this out because both Quinn and Wade seem a bit different (naturally, because this was around the time the show was canceled by Fox and picked up by SciFi). Quinn looks a bit more tough, Wade’s hair goes red from brown, etc. So, i figured the speculative fiction world hopping sliders from season two were still bopping around, and we were simply following a crappier bunch of sliders. Cause, y’know, infinite number of worlds, infinite sliders.

Season four gets a little harder with the introduction of Quinn’s brother, what happens to Wade, and the general down note it all starts on; but it’s tempered by a decent episode here and there, and Maggie essentially becoming Wade character wise, so she becomes a bit more bearable.

Season five is where i stop. I just stop.

But seriously put some thought into a Sliders retrospective, i really want to see yoru opinion on it.

Stargate SG-1 is crap? It has its problems, but most everyone I know agrees that it’s one of the best science fiction shows in the past 20 years. It had likable, nay, lovable characters, a rich backstory, a believable political landscape, and some of the best pacing I’ve seen in science fiction television.

Mel Brooks does the see their own movie gag quite often. But then again, he’s doing intentionally funny movies. Plus, in those movies, he never really bothers to build much of a 4th wall to begin with, so when the characters do step through it (or in Blazing Saddle’s case, have a knock-down brawl through it), its easily accepted.

I will commit the highest of heresies and say I liked, nay, loved Conan The Destroyer. I saw it as a kid and it was the gateway drug to eventually seeing the original and reading the Conan stories. I always treat that movie as a Dungeons and Dragons movie, no a Conan movie. The plot is essentially a basic Dungeon crawl. It’s not goddamn Citizen Kane and it doesn’t need to be. Yeah it’s a let down after Barbarian, but it wasn’t like Jaws II bad in which it was unwatchable.

I seriously did a spit take when you did the Sliders reference; I feel the same way about that show. I thought it started sucking when Arturo left, too. Although they did manage to scrape some ideas together with the Kromaggs in season 4 when SciFi took over. It was still crap, but it was entertaining crap. The final season was completely worthless though.

Dude, just because he’s making commentaries doesn’t mean he isn’t working on other stuff. Commentaries require much less work than proper videos. I’m guessing he’s throwing these out here so we’ll have something to watch while we wait.

i had a bunch of comments but most of them have already been mentioned in other comments. however about the whole it destroys a continent, it destroys the world thing, the first thing i thought when u pointed it out was all the barbarians would think about would be the immediate effect of the bomb, the destruction of a continent, whereas the scientist would take into account long term effects caused by fallout from such a large nuclear blast, which would kill all life, essentially destroying the world. but thats probably just an attempt to rationalize bad writing.

Actually you do see this a lot in parody or comedy films where the actors will break the fourth wall like that and go past their own movie poster or screening. But unlike this piece of crap it’s actually funny because the movie is having fun with it. I actually like when this is done well because you can get some great jokes out of it like in Blazing saddles where the bad guy learns that the good guys are following him because he sees it on the movie screen.

I only just realized that the portal special effects are almost the same as those in Last Action Hero. Now the movie kind of makes sense in a weird way, seeing as you see Beastmaster 2 in a cinema… all it is, is that the magic ticket opened a portal to the movie…… in an alleyway, for some reason instead of the cinema.

Aw, I liked Conan the Destroyer. Oh well. In any event, Spoony, I’m a little disappointed that in this commentary you didn’t address more of the stuff you left out of the actual review, such as:

1. Dar’s encounter with a monster in the woods who is King Zed’s sister (!). Apparently she practiced dark magic so her brother banished her. Her frequent use of it turned her into Swamp Thing. Also, she sounds like Whoopi Goldberg for some reason. This was the film’s big lipped alligator moment and its only real purpose was to have the monster reveal to Dar a secret about Arklon that didn’t need to be revealed (see below).

2. Arklon winds up being revealed as Dar’s brother and Zed’s third son. Arklon was kidnapped by Maax’s cult before the movie began and raised by them to be their glorious messiah or somesuch nonsense. This is introduced and then quickly forgotten about, save for a few moments where hero and villain call one another brother, and Dar continues to treat Arklon as the villain of the week. This winds up adding so little to the story that you’ve rather expertly edited out almost any and all reference to it without ruining the flow of the plot.

3. One of Arklon’s more prominently seen soldiers is played by B-movie favorite Robert Z’Dar. This isn’t terribly important but is just something I like pointing out.

4. I mentioned this in the comments over on Thatguywiththeglasses.com, but I was somewhat surprised you didn’t mention what Kari Wuher’s character was even doing driving insanely down that alley right at a wall. Someone even asked about it. Well, the answer is she was speeding and being chased by police, and refused to pull over. I love sliders. my mom bought me the box set of the first two seasons for my birthday and set it out for me to find when I woke up. man that thing was awesome the disks are held in place in such a way it looked like they were levitating. that was a fun day.
