“E3 boldly goes where no series reboot has gone before”? That’s funny ’cause, I could’ve sworn series reboots always “go there”.

If Kirk doesn’t dropkick people in this game, there’s gonna be a serious problem.

Also, the last quality Trek game was Bridge Commander. Everything has sucked since, this one possibly included unless it can be more than just shoot-em-up.

You met Lisa Foiles?! God damn I envy you, she’s gorgeous

    • http://www.facebook.com/AlphaLackey Charles Raymond Mousseau

Poor man’s Felicia Day, nothing more.

      • http://spoonyexperiment.com The Spoony One

That wasn’t very polite.  Welcome to the banned list.

An honor.  No bleating about your trigger-happy ways here; your site, your rules.  Besides, if you weren’t capricious, uneven and heavy-handed, your videos wouldn’t be awesome.

PS don’t forget to add this one too!

I will gladly stay in the lower tax bracket for Lisa. Nothing against Ms. Day, Lisa just does it for me better.

Boo Star Trek should be about exploration, ships boldly going were no person has gone before, this looks like another 3rd person shooter based on JJ Abrem’s films that are sucking the life and intelligence out of the series. Ill check out star trek infinite space instead. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-star-trek/716091

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HHYFDN44YXT3H6LDT2YCO34HCY Brian

Pity it’s based on the POS film released in 2009 and has nothing to do with Star Trek.

    Ooooh look, Mass Effect 3.

    • Anonymous

More like Dead Space 3, but maybe it’s just me.

      • Anonymous

It strikes me as a mix of both, and seriously, people are only saying Dead Space because of the breathing noises in space and flying through it. The game play seems to resemble Mass Effect much more so, especially with the look of the cover shooting and because Spock sends out something that looks and behaves almost exactly like warp.

So I have to ask, did you have a look at XCOM this year and did it make you sadface?

  • http://www.facebook.com/lordsimen Josh Langland

Looks good. I hope it turns out as fun as it looks.  I quite enjoyed the Abrams Trek film and look forward to future installments in that franchise.

Looks like an okay game from the little bit the trailers showed. If nothing else they got the Alternate Timeline Reboot Trek aesthetic right. Hopefully it will be more Elite Force, and less Dominion Wars.

doesnt look as fun as star trek online. thats a bad sign right there

  • pool13

Did anyone notice how often Mr. Sinclair said the word “awesome”?

It’s really sad. Everything is about “Every time you hit a button something awesome happens” these days. And this “awesome” is always some stupid assanine explosion or move etc. Just action. Thats all that counts. Games don’t have to be intelligent or have a good story, or good dialoge..no no, it’s only about action now.

The 2009 Star Trek reboot was not awesome, it was stupid, full of plotholes, showing unbelievable characters and the federation had the elightenment level of a KGB operative in the cold war.
NOTHING in this movies was awesome. It played stupid, it felt stupid and artificial, and it was just action and (mediocre) effects.

If that’s enough for “awesome” these days, the word lost its real meaning in some explosion a long time ago.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jo-Kim-Han/183403473 Jo Kim Han

no my friend, that would be the would “epic” that is the most overused word these days…

As a long-time Trekkie who adores just about everything the franchise made, I will say this – the reboot was necessary. Trek had stagnated to the point where it needed to evolve or die. Abrams gave it the shot in the arm it needed to make Trek relevant and fun again.

And look, even if you hate it, you still have your old series on DVD, Netflix, Hulu, whatever. It’s not like the reboot completely erased all that from existence.

      • pool13

How does a reboot into a forgettable action movie with mediocre effects, lame story and psychotic characters help in any way?
Star Trek has been a letdown for quiet some time, that much is true, but THIS?
How worthless can a franchise get?

In case you didn’t notice: They nearly threw everything overboard what Star Trek is about.
How can a reboot into something completely different with no message and no meaning be something positive?

I would have been better to let is rest, instead of raising the zombie ST and turn it into an action figure.

        But, that’s just me.
Enjoy this new “franchise” if you can.

‘Cos you know, when people think Star Trek game they clearly think generic third person shooter ¬_¬.

Guy you interviewed was a bit of a douche, but it was nice to see you prettied it up with Miss Foyles.

    • http://www.facebook.com/drew.dubois Drew Dubois

How was he a douche? I didn’t get that impression at all.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Grant-Stackhouse/177700748 Grant Stackhouse

I got that impression.  Stopped watching after about 10 mins, because he was getting on my nerves too much.  I think part of it was audio balance though.  Spoony and Foyles were using their “indoor” voices, while this guy was using his “outdoor” voice.  I’d turn up the volume for Spoony, only to have my ear drums blown off my Mr. Overexcited.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jesse-Melat/1331583316 Jesse Melat

It’s the obnoxiously fruity hat and the douchebag facial hair.

Honestly, FPS/Third Person shooters are the new 2D platformer.   It’s like a decentralized LJN, this shit.

          Fruity hat? Douchebag facial hair?

If you have balls, I’d like to kick you in them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/CommanderSqueaks Patrick Walker

It looks like a fine game indeed, but I felt a little of myself die at the thought of a Star Trek third person shooter game like this. To say I can’t force myself to get excited for this game is an understatement. I think I’m going to go cuddle up with a few Next Gen and DS9 DVDs and cry myself to sleep.

  • Renaissance_nerd

Kudos to Spoony for hooking up with Lisa at E3, bow chicka bow wow. ;P

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=37101365 Fraser Stewart

I would love to see a proper Star Trek RPG.  Think about it.  You’re a member of a crew on a star ship, flying around the galaxy having different adventures everywhere.  You can interact with other people on the ship, on different planets, you can improve your ranking.  So you could start as a lowly ensign, and build your way up to captain.  Or you could be the captain already.

I really don’t think any game company has genuinely tried to make a decent Star Trek RPG.  It’s something I would definitely buy.  FPS’s are always fun, but I think an RPG would be so much better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Josh-McClary/504395847 Josh McClary

So “Star Trek” translates into at best a Mass Effect 2 knock off, at worst just another generic third person shooter.

You know, isn’t this the same kind of thing that destroyed Star Trek Online? The constant running and shooting of things, which isn’t the point of Star Trek at all. It’s sad when the Knights of the Old Republic – which is a *Star Wars* game – is more Star Trek then any modern Star Trek game.

I think the last Star Trek game that got it “right” was the 25th Anniversary Game. Man, I miss that game.

    • http://www.facebook.com/ztfreeman Zachary Freeman

I would actually look forward to a Bioware Star Trek licence done like Mass Effect.  There’s a ton of diplomacy and discovery in those games, if they just put more of that into it, especially after running around in ME 1 and getting all those side mission briefs, I could see in my mind how awesome it would be.

I’m kinda sad that it doesn’t sound like anything like that is in this game, but we’ll have to see if it’s good none the less.

      • http://twitter.com/BigPuppy_Stuart Stuart Phip

That is exactly what i thought after 2 hours with Mass Effect, that voice saying ” this would make a great trek game” i think is something most Trek lovers hear when they play ME for a bit. If there is any company that can Do Trek justice from all angles it would be Bioware.

    Looks like a good game
    and great interview Spoony :)

  • http://bwmedia.wordpress.com/ ShadowWing Tronix

I watch this trailer and think Dead Space lite meet Abrams’ Trek. Not really into either.

  • http://twitter.com/Nave_Ninja Evan Warnke

Hey, I got a funny idea! Instead of everybody saying the same thing over and over again, pondering the philosophical ramifications of the supposed degeneration of Star Trek’s original meaning and themes by basically going, “Why is this new Trek full of EXPLOSIONS?! Why, back in my day, all they did was talk!” you can instead deal with it and simply not buy the game and watch the show, which still exists and carries just as much weight and meaning today as it did back then.

    Problem solved.

I wish I could criticize LF without getting banned, but uh, good interview.  <3

I had to watch this twice, because the first time I was distracted by my happiness that Lisa’s alive. Where’s she been?

Anyway, game looks fun, but nothing really mind-blowing to a non-Trekkie.  First I’d really seen about it.  Good interview, Spoony.

Man…I think i’m going to go pull out my old TNG and TOS dvd’s and watch them until dawn. I REALLY didn’t want to be reminded of the reboot’s existence. Just taking your advice from before Spoony…it doesn’t exist…it doesn’t exist…

Spoony looks so much more suave and cool sat next to Lisa than he did sat next to Bennet :P

Good coverage of E3 Spoony, I watched the IGN Live stream on youtube, but didn’t know War of Worlds was getting another game. Not sure I can get excited about the Star Trek game, but I’m sure I will closer to release. I think I’ll install the War of The Worlds RTS game now hmm…

So anything to add about X-Com?

  • http://holyjunkie.wordpress.com/ HolyJunkie

Did I just watch Mass Effect, Dead Space 2, or both in that trailer? It’s kind of hard to tell…

Great, stupid shaky cam and f*cking lens flares: Just some of the stuff that pissed me off about the reboot…

And the reboot USED (poorly explained) technobabble. Red Matter, anyone?!

Oh no! I HATE Star Trek! But it… looks… sooo… COOL!

  • Anonymous

This looks pretty interesting (the JewWario kind of interesting, not the Spoony kind), not gonna lie. I’m going to have to see more before I render a verdict though. Never was big into Trek, but I enjoyed the reboot movie well enough. At the moment I’d say there’s a 30% chance of me getting this one.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Juha-Keranen/1004118273 Juha Keränen

What an absolutely likeable guy. Talks fast and clearly, seems passionate about the project and just lights up the whole interview. What’s with the lens flare haters? :D I don’t mind them at all. AT ALL! Shaky cam is what it is. When used right it adds a sense of impact. When overused it adds a sense of vomit on the monitor.

This game is kind of missing the point of Star Trek a little don’t you think?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000798071024 Atztex Idontthinkso

hey spune, one technical word of advise here from your tech support ;)

i guess your just recording on camera without a mixer inbetween so you probably just put the first mic in your first input and vice versa with the second mic. this results in this right-left-seperation because (of course) the two audio chanels are seperated on tape (or digitally). in most editing softwares you can either set the two audio chanels to mono (downmix) or you just fill both mono chanels with the respective missing side (meaning fill the right mono chanel on  left and vice versa) that way the entire video would be mono (stereo with both chanels right and left playing the same) of course but you would have a constant and symmetrical sound which might fit better for an interview. of course you can have it your way – just saying ;)
oh and by the way the errors on the radio transmissin could result in low batteries or interfering radio signals from cell-phones for example (even tho they dont use the same frequency they can still mess up your signal). turning your cells off might prevent such.
hope you appreciate my pretentious help ^^ keep up the good work!

    Holy fuck, this is awful.

How can every Game Designer *miss* the point of Star Trek?

This seemed interesting at first using Mass Effect-style cinematic style, but then… This guy, oh god.
