FUCKING A. I loved Twisted Metal. Always have. This is gonna be really bad ass, I can just feel it.

As from the Sweet Tooth/Axel thing, I’m hoping there is some wonky thing where you can pick which driver is in which car. Cause I always liked Axel as a character…

Twisted Metal Black felt a little weak in the combat – the weapons were nowhere near as destructive as they should have been.

    Hi Spoony,

The mode you played was Nuke mode.  Also, the reason Sweet Tooth was stuck between Axel’s wheels is that any character can now command any weapon.

Not sure if this intrigues you or not but from what I heard, the story mode is going to be like the new Mortal Kombat (although you get to keep whatever vehicle you want so no worries of trying to master a new style).

Did you get to interview David Jaffe?

Can’t wait for Twisted Metal myself.  Hope the European fans wouldnt be ignored this time round.

Behold, the only reason I am willing to purchase a PS3! My childhood in full HD glory! Always love to see you cover a game I’m personally looking forward to, Spoony.

I said more or less the same thing on Facebook Twitter. I played lots of Twisted Metal and Vigilante 8 growing up with my cousin.

I like this style of your E3 videos best. I prefer hearing your opinions when you are sitting at home comfortably, instead watching you do interviews with the developers. However if that’s what you prefer then by all means, keep doing it.

I heavily loved Twisted Metal Black for it’s dark, mentally deranged psychological characterization.  I LOVE games where I actually *give* a damn about the people involved, and the characters and story and backgrounds were what made that “mushy” gameplay forgivable for me, because the atmosphere was so strong and it was often emotionally and psychologically rewarding playing through it, and not always in a “happy” way.  John Doe’s ending was a real stab in the heart that had me surprised at just how strong an emotional reaction I delivered.

Every time those credits rolled in TMB, the editing of the videos alongside Paint it Black was a highly powerful combination.  It was just the right level of “darkness”, with emotional strife without getting obnoxiously angsty (well, except maybe in the case of the bitchy-bride).  It was often the perfect shift following many of the characters’ endings.  That kind of emotional involvement is hard to come by.

So as I watched this and saw returning characters from Black, especially my favorite, Preacher (REPENT!), I was pretty excited!

The Devil is in you, Monkey!

One of the few reasons I bought a PS3. Btw that’s not sweet tooth on the axel, it’s just a clown, because on team modes it’s the clowns vs. the doll faces, Sweet Tooth is the leader of the clowns and in some modes someone plays as the leader and I think he can command any vehicle he wants (I think, not sure) and the leader of the Doll Faces is that Doll face girl, I forget her name and am too lazy to check it out =P

Great, that team bit got me thinking of Preacher and the Holy Drivers.

I need to whip myself for thinking up such a terrible pun.

I really hope that’s the case because i have always hated axel with a passion, bad handling for a vehicle, looks laughably ridiculous, and a pretty sub-par special. Combining the series best character with the worst vehicle would be twisted metal sacrilege.

I was hoping Sweet Tooth not being in his signature ice cream truck was an oversight. He was always one of my faves.

Other than that, this game looks and sounds awesome. I’ll definitely have to check it out.

In that game mode one player is the Faction leader (EG: Sweettooth or dollface) and the rest are their gang members. Sweet Tooth still gets his ice cream truck.

Hey Spoony, some more info for you. Yes the Multi-player mode you saw was Nuke Mode. But I want to make some more things clear.

    1. The Faction Leader is the actual characters from the game. For instance if Dollface is battling Sweet Tooth, you actually sacrifice Sweet Tooth into the missile launcher.

    2. The people that are piloting the cars and choppers and helicopters are actually the gang members. Think of how Joker’s henchmen all try to look like clowns and you get the idea. So Sweet Tooth guys look like clowns, Dollface minions are women with masks… etc.

That’s all I know right now too, keep up the good work!

The first 2 TM games were epic.
Mindless blow the shit out of everything. It was great unplug yer brain entertainment.
I gave up on the franchise after that though. I kind of dipped in and out but nothing impressed me enough to play as much as the first 2.
I recall giving Black a go, but it was just “wrong”…and not in a good way.

I hope this game turns out well.
We live in a gaming world were everything is “relaistic” or “cinematic”.
    Whatever happened to fun?

I didn’t see it breezing through the comments so If it hasn’t been answered heres whats up with Sweet Tooth in Axel’s vehicle. Basically in multiplayer, team modes in particular, you are a specific driver and you can choose the cars almost like a class selection style thing. In the Nuke mode it will be something like a team made up of Dollface-like characters fighting as a team with Dollface as the faction leader you have to grab to set off the nuke, same for Sweet Tooth. So, since you enire team is made up of sweet tooth lookin’ dudes you pick whatever car you want them to drive, make sense?

Trailer has a very Dethklok vibe to it.  XD

Totally what I was thinking with Grimm.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1161393460 Nathan Jacob Caudill

It looked like Mr. Grimm wasnt really Mr. Grimm. (Mr. Grimm is the Grim Reaper, not a guy with skull facepaint and all that on him, that would be his gang members in nuke town. Mr. Grimm looks like a skeleton dressed in leather biker gear.

This game looks awesome. I absolutely loved Twisted Metal Black.  I really wish they would put Twisted Metal Black on the PSN. I know I could get a copy for about $5.00 but every single time I find a copy of this game either the disk or the box is in terrible shape. Plus I have my PS2 hooked to a smaller tv and if I play Twisted Metal Black I want to play it on my big tv. Finally I’m not going to lie I want my PSN Twisted Metal Black trophies.

Fuck yes Spoony. I love Twisted Metal 2. That game was amazing. It is still fun to this day. I am really excited for this one
