I always liked Ma-Ti. I can understand why he needed to die though.

It has something to do with Bhargav deciding not to the Chief Executive Producer for the site, isn’t it?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Laurence-Kone/516890208 Laurence Kone

Yeah. Bhargav wanted to break into the review business on his own.

Spoony, make sure you do indeed add that FF13 bit into your review where you shout Ma-Ti’s name.

nice Red Dwarf reference there Sus… i mean, Spoony >:D

So the power of technology defeated him with… magic?
Wasn’t the science ring supposed to REFLECT his magic? And not do a kamehameha?

Very good point with the Chuck Norris’ “convenient enemy”, that guy could have destroyed everyone, good thing he didn’t “feel like it”.

And why the hell would the villain want to destroy all technology AND use an iPhone? I know it’s funny but, why the hell? He KNOWS it’s technology, he’s a genius isn’t he?

Still it was an AMAZING show! The serious background and the whole silliness were great, i just don’t feel they belong in the same story.
It’s like Lord of the Rings with Simpsons characters, both are great, but not mixed!

    “DON’T REVIEW IT!”

Glad you guys did this audio commentary, it was really enjoyable to listen to the stories from behind the scenes and how everything played out…and the fact that you guys did both kickassia AND this film w/only 4 days shooting time, is just incredible, you’re a really determined bunch and we look forward to seeing what you all produce in the coming year, keep up the hard work, you RULE! *hugs*

    I don’t even know…

Guys, thank you for doing you thing. It was great fun. I don’t even care about the little nitpicks, I don’t.

There is exactly ONE thing that I could describe as a missed opportunity in this whole affair, and that is: that once Linkara came in at the end, singing the crazy version of ‘Amazing Grace’ at the NCritic…
Well, I was all pumped up and primed for a massive musical number.

Let me pitch it to you:
Every single contributor on TGWTG, or CA, or even the greater extended community of the site – including ReviewTopia, including I don’t know, Iron Liz and all the other ‘associate’ members of the grand community.
ALL chiming in, singing ‘Amazing Grace’, but with your own lyrics.

Seriously, we were ready. At that exact moment in the film, we WANTED it. We just WANTED to hear everybody chime in. Your moment of bittersweet would have been better served in a massively crossovered singalong of crazy.

But, here’s hoping! The next big ol’ crazy thing is gonna be amazing, I’m sure. Same as this thing was. It was different from Kickassia, and that worked to its benefit.

Great commentary, team.  Love you guys. =]

Commentaries are so much fun. I was looking forward to these almost as much as the movie itself.

Will Doug have his own commentary?

  • http://www.saisasylum.com/ Sai

Is it said that the most exciting part about this commentary was Linkara giving away that there’s a Warrior #4 review?

    • victor// chacon/sabadia

I-I thought he and spoony had already mentioned that..?

    Great commentaries guys!

And am I the only one who wants to see the bum do something like Hobo With A Shotgun next year? And all of you can be villains or something. That would be funny :D

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joao-Vicente/100000881627920 João Vicente

Really awesome commentary. too bad its over.

As for the end, yeah i knew ma-ti would come to save the day since you kept going on “you need to be worthy” and lets face it.. only he was :p
But that said… I though ONLY HE could and WOULD use the power glove… so it was different of what i though it would be.

Also when he died.. i though you would go for the cliche of tears saving him or something… but it was fun to see him in a little box thrown to outer space :p

Anyway, my thanks to everyone in the movie and to everyone who help make it.
As a fan I’m truly thankful I got to see such a great movie.

    Thanks everyone.

I will see you all next year for more shenanigans! :)

I have to admit, this last part surprised me.  Not with Ma-Ti coming back to defeat Maliki (which was pretty much telegraphed from the start), or even so much him dying, but the fact that Doug & the rest of you guys managed to make it genuinely poignant.  Sure, you were basically just re-doing the end of Star Trek II (I can’t even really call it a satire, you pretty much just copied the whole thing & even played it more or less straight) but it was honestly moving somehow, which is pretty impressive for a joke character like Bargo’s Ma-Ti which is impossible to take seriously (or so you’d think).

And yes, you *did* earn your cribbing of the “needs of the many” line far more than Transformers 3 did, both logically and emotionally, but it’s also true that measuring your storytelling skills against Michael Bay’s is using a pretty Goddamm low bar, even for a bunch of no-budget internet reviewers.

You know, a much simpler, logical explanation for why you crash in from the left on your return trajectory is that the camera was simply positioned at a reverse angle from the shot where he sent you into orbit.  But yeah, screw logic; I much prefer the “orbital wobble” answer myself.

I know it’s probably inevitable that you will indeed review Final Fantasy XIII eventually (at some point even I’ll probably start bugging you to do it), but good God man, after the one-two punch of FF X and FF X-2, give yourself a break; your higher brain functions can only take so much abuse.  Don’t feel you have to rush into a XIII review before the inevitable 4th Anniversary “Search for Ma-Ti” sequel ruins the continuity.

The only continuity I truly need to see held onto from Suburban Knights is that if there is ever a Legend of Zelda movie, James Rolfe needs to be casted as the voice of Navi.

Funny thing about this part that I forgot to mentioned when it was posted initially. I find it interesting that Nostalgia Critic recognizes Last Angry Geek right away, but not only forgets who Film Brain is, when Luke became the favored son, but in The Last Airbender movie crossover review, he doesn’t know who JesuOtaku, Todd in the Shadows, Y Ruler of Time or Rollo T are and even confuses Rollo for 8-bit Mickey. Wonder what LAG did to become memorable in NC’s mind.

I wonder why no one tried to throw a rock at Malakite in the beam-o-war scene between him and Ma-Ti.

I first have to say i love what you and the rest of team that guy and inked reality do. i have seen the action video, the comical over the top video, and the mythical adventure video. I think the next anniversary video should be a monster video parodying shows like Buffy, Angel, Charmed, True Blood and others. It would keep in cannon with the search of the Necronomicon with Cheester A Bum. and if need be because everyone is all “quested out” at certain times the main characters can get cell service every now and then can call in advice from other reviewers that would have know how of the creature they are facing.
             Thanks for listing.

Good anniversary movie and a fun review. You guys sound like you had a blast working together on this. And you’re right, nothing wrong with a predictable ending, especially if it gives the fans something good.
As for the question “What does Gandalf wear under his robes?”  His Shoes.

I was hoping to hear if Orlando’s Outfit was in any way influenced by Harry Dresden from the covers of the Dresden Files Novels.
Oh well guess I will never know.

i like the part in this video when i was watching stuff happen and the guys talked about it.

          This is a commentary right?

  • Anonymous

Thanks for the commentary! I always love hearing these.

I have to admit, though, I think it would have been better with fewer people, as you kinda mentioned in the beginning. Not that it was bad, just that it would have been easier to follow, and I think people would have gotten more time to comment and discuss. Maybe like half and half the commentators? I think about five people should really be the maximum for these kind of things, it gets tricky when it gets over that. I do like it that you didn’t all do separate ones alone, though, since I think one person easily runs out of interesting things to say if he or she isn’t the writer or the director.

SK was a fun show but I think I liked Kickassia more.
SK had good first part and return of Suede and everything after it was awesome, but parts 2-4 kinda dragged.
In Kickassia every part was different and there was more different stuff happening. Part 2-4 of SB are this same – both groups are traveling and solving problems. Everybody was doing this same thing whole time and we even couldn’t see that they were making any progress. It wasn’t also necessary to keep things about Malachite in mystery and make long expositions in later part of series. Doug could learn from Linkara – in his SH reviews we had a little of exposition about current plotline at the begging of each part and it worked perfectly.

    • http://www.facebook.com/Farshnuke Gordon Jones

I disagree, the story line was more coherent this time and the characters had more time to develop. Kickassia was only good for the Dr.Insano storyline. This was good in just about every way.

Wow, I never noticed before the commentary how red you guys actually got, lol!  The pain, the pain!  Loved the commentary and what you went through to make a really funny movie.

Actually Spoony, the Ma-Ti/Malachite duel reminds me more of the scene from 1963′s The Raven where Vincent Price and Boris Karloff had their laser duel!
