!!!SPOILERS!!!

I beg to differ with Spoony about the idea of Nolan spin-off films featuring John Blake. I don’t think it’s going to happen. Sure, the Dark Knight films made money, but think about it: SO DID THE RAIMI SPIDER-MAN FILMS. Hell, Spider-Man 3 was the highest-grossing film (internationally) in the franchise! By all rights, they should have kept Sam Raimi aboard to make Part 4… but when they saw what he was doing with the franchise (Peter cheats on MJ, MJ leaves him, the “Vultress” is a thing for some reason), they ditched him in favor of the safe bet: a full-on reboot.

Warners is going to do the same thing here. They could try to push through a John Blake Batman movie, sure, but think about all the missing pieces: no Bruce Wayne. No Alfred. No Lucius Fox. Probably no Chris Nolan, either (though David Goyer and/or Jonathan Nolan might write the script). And a whole new character under the cowl who has no real fan base or familiarity with audiences. That sounds like a HUGE gamble to me– a gamble Warner Bros. can avoid altogether if they just do a new movie featuring an all-new Bruce Wayne.

I find the biggest problem I had with the movie was the Talia al Ghul character involved in the twist ending. I found her very unnecessary to the plot and pretty much made all of bane’s accomplishments null because he wasnt the one actually with the plan, he was just a puppet, a face for the gothom revolution. That moment kinda ruined the movie for me and the fact that Spoony didnt even mention her only makes it seem more like a cheap forgettable plot twist.

I did watch Batman Returns again and it’s goofier than Goof Troop.

Big Trouble in Little China really IS the best movie ever made!

I actually didn’t think about this film like your brother did, Spoony, but looking back on it I think it makes the movie better than I thought at first. I thought it was okay, but nothing amazing, Looking back on it now I can appreciate the movie for what it is and not what it isn’t.
Also, the reference with the cops name made me groan.
As for future movies? I was actually thinking they COULD go the Batman Beyond route if they wanna do some sort of sequel, which could work since they’d need an older actor to play Bruce.

I really liked TDKR, but seriously that thing was riddled with plotholes that I hoped you’d comment on. I also like Batman Returns, still don’t know wich plot had more holes.

I thought the movie was alright, but I encountered a lot of trouble getting immersed into it.

I’m glad they put closure on Bruce Wayne’s role as the Batman, but I felt like this movie was just recycling Inception down to its ending, cast and overall theme. I dunno, that’s how it felt, not a bad thing, but distracting for me because I’m thinking too much about it as a movie and not as a story. I know it’s Nolan’s style, but this felt a bit too similar to his previous work. Also, I think the movie’s continuity was hindered due to Ledger’s death.

I think you really missed the point

RE: the spider-man character arc, here’s what I don’t get: why do they need ways to attract new readers to Spider-man? Spider-man was the one superhero I never needed a reason to be attracted to, as a new reader. And you can do what they did with their “40 years of Amazing Spider-man” DVD, that I bought RIGHT BEFORE OMD! Just make a 50th anniversary collection, where it includes not only Amazing Spider-man, but the other Spider-man comics, so you can have all of the spider-man, maybe in volumes, but new readers will be able to pick these up, get the continuity and character growth, and then continue that growth.

Also, *SPOILER*I could see Joseph Gordon-Levitt not being Batman, but being a spin-off as Nightwing, set in Blüdhaven, with Oracle as a supporting character, and a villain like either Blockbuster, or maybe even Deathstroke.

Of course he puts this up before I have to go to work… damn you spoony!

It´s a good movie, but not as good as “The Dark Knight”. The “Dent Day/Law”? The magic leg of Bruce? The “Take Gotham” movement with Bane? No, just no.

You never mention several problems with this movie. First of all, Venom is never mentioned. A huge part of the character of Bane was the venom, yet they never even mention it in the movie. Secondly, you never mention that in 1 scene in like 30 seconds, it is explained that Bane isn’t even the main villain. It’s some chick that you completely forget about and suddenly she’s the main villain that’s basically controlled Bane from the start. And lastly, BATMAN FLIES A NUKE A FEW MILES OFF SHORES AND BLOWS IT UP. The nuclear fallout ALONE would destroy all of Gotham, not to mention the feel good ending the movie had where batman is actually alive. It’s like we saw different movies.

it’s always been that simple for me, best movie: wizard of oz (1939).
i couldn’t stand these new batman movies right from the word go. bad costumes, christian bale’s voice. heath ledger is awesome and is worth watching in the second one but they just bored the fuck outta me.
i can still go back and watch michael keaton and be like “that’s batman”.
of course the second best batman is kevin konroyd, but people never consider
him simply because he’s a voice actor (got christian bale beat).
watching the animated series and especially the 2 arkham video games,
he and mark hamill are just the best batman+joker team ever and they
just kick too much ass.

What Noah did in Ireland, a convention? Great to see him working. I want a SPOONY MOVIE man, write the script for it and fund it on Kickstarter, itwould be great!

You know, for as little sense as Batman Returns makes (Yeah, Catwoman taking like 7 bullets without really dying makes no effing sense, for one thing, without a bullet proof vest), but I give it small kudos for ‘style’ if nothing else. Penguin isn’t all that insufferable, even if posing him as a mayoral figure is the least likely thing to occur… EVER.

That aside, I haven’t watched Dark Knight Rises yet, but to that end, I don’t think you really spoiled the movie, and I still look forward to watching it, even after this commentary.

Also, hope that your trips are at least refreshing and you can get back to your reviews. :) I certainly could use a vacation outside of this country for a change.

I think the reason why the don’t blame on the Joker is because he would reveal what he did to Harvey but good job making this point nonetheless. Overall great review you thought about the movie better than Doug did.

Shame on you, Spoony, hating on Batman Returns, come on its way better than either of the Schumacher films. It doesn’t suck, it has good performances, yeah its goofy, but what do you expect its Tim Burton. And I mean when are your going to see a Batman movie, where one of the bad guys is Christopher Walken. He’s reason enough to see it.

This wasn’t a Batman movie. It was a Bruce Wayne movie.

you know, the fusion reactor thing really bugs me in this movie. He scraps the project because it MIGHT be turned into basically a neutron bomb…but ANY nuclear power plant contains material that can be turned into nuclear weapons…besides, if we never used any technology because it might possibly be used as a weapon somehow we never would have invented sharp sticks or FIRE!

But Spoony! Batman Returns had Christopher Walken!! It couldn’t have been that bad….right?

Here’s my top five favorite Batman movies at least so far.

1. The Dark Knight

3. Batman Begins
4. Batman Forever
5. Batman (1989)

Why choose Forever over the original? Because Jim Carrey’s Riddler made it more fun than Jack Nicholson’s Joker in the original!

I love Batman Returns… a lot. Among my favorite movies of all time. Why? It’s like the ultimate Tim Burton movie, and just a fun ride. The music is absolutely perfect, the opening is among the best and most dark movie openings I have ever seen, the characters are great and fun and you can tell all the actors really had a fun time doing the movie. And you also could tell Tim Burton had a damn good time directing this movie, since he had 100% freedom.
Yes, sure – it has silly things in it for sure. But the entertainment value is sky high – I couldn’t bring myself to remotely hate the movie even if I tried as hard as I could. The ending is also just SO memorable. And hell, the entire movie is just so memorable, and unique. “Oh, it’s ripping off Nightmare Before Christmas”, I’ve heard some people say? Well… Nightmare Before Christmas was released 1994. Batman Returns was released 1992. So really, which movie is ripping off which one, huh? :PThe movie just has too many lovable and memorable scenes to count. It’s always an amazing ride for me to get through. It goes through all kinds of emotions I have inside me. You can nitpick it all you want and find as many flaws as you can… I will either agree or disagree depending on how much sense they make. Clowns and penguins out of nowhere? Sure. Goofy when the Penguin rides on that batmobile to control the actual batmobile? Absolutely. But at the same time, also hilarious.
If you hate the movie, that’s fine. You probably hate me as a person either way, Spoony. Why? I love the Star Wars prequels, I love the Transformers movies, I think The Dark Knight Rises is disappointing, and I think The Amazing Spider-Man is the best live action superhero movie to date. Yup, you heard me. Now go on and bash me and make fun of me for it – won’t change my opinion. At least I can defend it and be constructive about it.

Have you seen TDKR yet? Jesus, it *beep* sucked. It sucked so bad, that I
need to talk about this movie because I think this was perhaps one of
the stupidest films I have ever seen. I see people confused about the
plot and some details so I’m going to take you through it bit by bit,
logic holes and all. It’s not all bad. There’s some good stuff in here
but it’s basically a sh** sandwich. So here we go…

First, we
open up the movie with the plane hijacking which is our introduction to
Bane. They pull off a Bond-centric stunt and kidnap nuclear bomb guy and
it was pretty cool even if Bane sounded like my grandfather on a
respirator. So far so good.

Then we’re at the Wayne residence.
And it’s time for what Nolan does best. Exposition baby!! That train is
never late. Let’s get started. It’s Harvey Dent Day!! Celebration of the
Dent Act which is keeping Gotham’s worst criminals behind bars with no
parole. Gordon is bumbling and stumbling trying to come up with some
kind words for Gotham’s deceased psycho DA. We learn through convenient
conversation from unnecessary new character #1 (Foley) that Gordon’s
wife took the kids and left him and he won’t be commissioner too much
longer because they’re planning to dump him. Foley is obviously an
ambitious little weasel and he’s like Gordon is about to get canned?
Ch-ching!! Why the audience needs to know this I have no idea because
nothing ever comes of this info. Miranda Tate (unnecessary new character
#2) is still trying to see Bruce Wayne for some big project. Alfred
tells her to step off.

We also find out Bruce Wayne is a Uncle
Fester crippled recluse who never comes out of Wayne Manor. Why? He’s
been retired as Batman for 8 years still brooding over the loss of
Rachel even though they had the chemistry of Tom & Jerry in the
previous two films.

Selina Kyle is busy masquerading as a maid
and stealing pearls belonging to Bruce’s mom which also contains his
fingerprints (for a later thread in this convoluted story). Bruce goes
Hawkeye on Selina with a bow and arrow and they have a nice chat before
she takes John Kreese’s advice and sweeps the leg on that cripple Wayne
and hops out the window.

Bruce is intrigued by this chick so he
goes to the batcave which looks like it’s been rebuilt even though
Batman has been “retired” for 8 years. This scene is basically there to
give Bruce his one minute of doing detective work. Alfred finds Bruce in
the bat cave and gives the same old tired monologue about how he wishes
Bruce would end up as just a regular Joe with a nice family blah blah
blah. And to top it off Nolan shows Alfred’s little dream sequence where
he sees Bruce in a cafe with his family. Nolan has the subtlety of a
sledgehammer to the face so as soon as I saw this scene I knew it was
going to come into play later in the film.

Selina delivers
Bruce’s fingerprints to Dagget (unnecessary character #3 AKA plot
device) who’s working with Bane. He’s planning to set up Bruce to lose
his wealth later on in the movie in an attempt to take over Wayne
Enterprises. However, Catwoman gets double-crossed and doesn’t get what
she wants in return which is the macguffin device known as
“StartYourLifeOver”. No, that’s not it. I think it was called
“LifeEraser”. No…it’ll come to me later. Anyway this ridiculous little
device is supposed to wipe out your entire criminal history from the
computers. However, if authorities have a paper file on you that’s two
inches thick with your history and photos that little device isn’t going
to help much. Anyhow, Catwoman tricks Dagget’s thugs into calling the
cops who show up right away. She plays victim and screams her head off
as they tear up the place. She escapes.

During the melee the
action somehow goes into the sewer with Gordon being caught and taken to
Bane and his little army. I can’t remember how because I was a bit
bored by then and ruffling my popcorn trying to find the ones with
butter. Bane isn’t happy that his goons brought Gordon to his pad so he
starts breaking the necks of his troops like Darth Vader…except
without the Force. Gordon is like *beep* this and rolls into the sewer
where the clairvoyant John Blake (unnecessary character #4 who steals
Batman’s movie) arrives just in time to find him coming out.

Speaking
of the clairvoyant John Blake he stops by Bruce’s place to clue him in
that he knows he’s Batman. How? Because they’re both orphans and Blake
could read his face. No, I’m not kidding. That’s the reason lol. I
*beep* chortled in the theater when he said it. Blake tells Bruce that
Batman is needed once again.

To speed this story along. Bruce
tracks down Selina at Miranda Tate’s party. They dance and chat it up
and Bruce takes his mom’s pearls back. To return the favor she steals
his car and goes on a joyride. Bruce also visits Fox at Wayne
enterprises to talk about the new macguffin device that can be turned
into a nuclear weapon which plays a role later in the film. While Bruce
is there he gets a look at some new toys that have been in development.
Most notably “The Bat” which as we find out later in the film any person
can apparently drive and operate with no training whatsoever. Even
Lucius has taken it for a spin on occasion when traffic is just too
heavy.

Bruce goes back to the bat cave and tries to figure
things out. Luckily ex-CIA operative Alfred conveniently knows the scoop
on Bane’s history and of course spoonfeeds the audience of his origin.
What, you really thought Alfred was just a butler? Cmon lol. This guy
can get the info and motivations about anyone just by snapping his
fingers. I wouldn’t be surprised at this point if Alfred knew who killed
Kennedy.

Back to Bane. He and his goons attack the stock
exchange in an attempt to bankrupt Bruce Wayne (using his fingerprints)
and they succeed. During their escape they use hostages strapped to
their motorbikes to get away. The cops are chasing them and one of the
cops actually says shoot the tires LOL. I’m laughing about that because
if they shoot the tires and the bike falls I’m pretty sure the hostages
strapped to the front and back of those bikes are going to incur some
major head damage when they wipe out since their arms are tied and they
can’t protect themselves lol. The chase leads to a tunnel which suddenly
starts going dark and you guessed it!! Batman is back and comes out of
the darkness on his cool Batpod. The senior cop tells his little young,
flunky partner “BOY, you’re in for a show tonight!!”. Actually, no. Not
much of a show at all. Batman rides his batpod and really does nothing.
Ambitious weasel Foley who was chasing Bane at first suddenly turns his
attention to the bigger fish Batman and wants to take him down even more
than Bane to make Gordon look bad. So the whole police force chases
Batman. Batman drives down a dark alley and the cops conveniently stop
their pursuit (why? I don’t know) and think they have Bats surrounded.
Suddenly we see “The Bat” rise from the alley where it was conveniently
placed (and not a single person in the city saw it fly there and noticed
it was parked). That thing must have stealth. Batman escapes of course
and the “show” is over.

Back to the Wayne residence where Bruce
is getting cocky and underestimating Bane. Alfred in one last ditch
effort to stop Bruce admits he destroyed Rachel’s letter and that she
chose Dent over him. Bruce says low blow man and Alfred once again pours
on the monologue and waterworks like we haven’t heard this sh** enough
times already. By now I’m getting annoyed with the crying and just want
Bruce to kindly tell Alfred to STFU. Bruce says nothing damaging but
Alfred leaves for good voluntarily and Bruce is on his own. Good
riddance I say.

To make matters worse Fox informs Bruce that
he’s broke now and they make plans for unknown Miranda Tate to take over
Wayne Enterprises just to stick it to Dagget. However, they must inform
Tate about the macguffin nuclear device sitting in the basement and
that it’s not a toy to be played with. If it was that dangerous they
could have just saved time and dismantled the thing but that would have
been too logical. A little while later Tate goes to visit Bruce at his
home for some reason. The lights go out since Bruce has no money to pay
his electricity bill. She starts the fireplace up and yeah Stevie Wonder
could see where this is headed. Bruce and Ms. Tate get it on and that’s
that.

Bruce is feeling spry after gettin’ some and sets out to
meet Catwoman to track down Bane. However, before he does that Nolan
tells him to dress up as Batman and climb onto to something really high
so the Batman fanboys can get their obligatory shot of him looking over
the city with his cape flapping in the wind. Batman stares out for
awhile and then says “Good enough?”. Nolan nods approvingly. The very
next scene has Batman in the sewer meeting with Catwoman asking her to
take him to Bane. A short stroll 20 seconds later and they’re in Bane’s
lair. Catwoman locks Batman in the UFC cage with Bane (one of the few
cool parts of the movie) and he proceeds to thrash Batman while talking
trash in his old man, high brow, raspy Darth Vader voice the whole time.
Batman uses all the tricks at his disposal but Bane has seen all of
this crap before since he was also trained by Ra’s. He beats Batman like
he stole something and breaks his back over his knee. Catwoman looks on
with the guilty conscience.

Meanwhile the entire police force
goes underground to search for Bane and his men. Yeah, seriously. They
send the ENTIRE force down in the sewer. Sounds stupid? Because it is
lol. Bane clairvoyantly planned for this kind of convenient stupidity
and had bombs planted to trap the cops underground and to also blow the
bridges. And while he was at it decided to blow up the whole Pittsburgh,
errrr, Gotham Steelers team as well. If that doesn’t get the citizens
of Gotham on your side nothing will lol. It gets better. He says there’s
an atomic bomb in the city and it will be detonated if anyone tries to
leave Gotham or anyone sneaks in. You’d think there would be mass panic
in the streets right? People saying *beep* it and fleeing for their
lives? Maybe try to hop on a boat? Nope. All goes according to plan and
millions of Gotham’s citizens hole up in their homes. It’s a ghost town.
How does Bane’s little army keep tabs on the whole city? How do the
citizens of Gotham get food and everything for months on end? How does
the city continue to operate? Who the *beep* knows? No one lays out any
rules. The underlying message of this far-fetched plan is loud and
clear…this movie is starting to suck.

Bane also finds time to
drop Bruce off at the Lazarus Pit in some other country and tells him
that he intends to give Gotham hope before killing them all. Yeah,
everything he’s doing to that city really inspires the people with hope,
right? lol. Anyhow Bruce’s punishment has to be more severe so Bane
leaves him there with built-in cable TV and snacks so Bruce can watch
the destruction of Gotham helplessly.

Back to Gotham where Bane
is now on a loudspeaker telling the city of Gotham that they’ve been
lied to. He pulls out a letter written by Gordon and gives the details
in fire and brimstone about DA Harvey Dent. Why the city of Gotham would
believe a madman who blew up their bridges, trapped their cops
underground, blew up their football team and threatened them with an
atomic bomb is beyond me. Bane tries to give them even more hope by
releasing their criminals into the street. Who in the hell writes this
stuff? lol. I guess Mr. Logic took a break from this movie for awhile. I
hope he makes it back because this movie is getting a little
ridiculous.

Blake is disappointed in Gordon for not telling the
truth about Dent. Gordon snaps back defensively and that’s that. Blake
starts doing a lot of detective stuff because he seems to be the only
cop left in Gotham. He takes over the movie for awhile while Batman is
out of commission. It’s basically “John Blake Begins”.

Back in
the pit Bruce is getting his back rehabilitated by the resident witch
doctor who knocks Bruce’s back into place Looney Tunes style and strings
him up to heal. The movie speeds ahead (in a Nolan movie 3 minutes
equals 3 months) and Bruce is back doing pushups and situps in no time
trying to get out of the pit with the locals chanting gibberish cheering
him on. The third or fourth try is a charm (I lost count by then) and
Bruce finally he gets out. He looks around and is in the middle of
nowhere except a village in the far distance. Then Bruce is back in
Gotham asking Selina Kyle for help and…wait a minute, what the *beep*
?!? How did Bruce get back into Gotham with no money and no resources
and with Gotham supposedly locked down? Secondly, how did Bruce find
Selina in that HUGE city in the first place? And why is Bruce asking for
the help of a woman who assisted in bankrupting him and set him up to
get beaten within an inch of his life? Mr. Logic? Are you there? Oh
that’s right he left a long *beep* time ago and apparently isn’t coming
back. Selina tells Bruce there’s nothing else he can do for the people
of Gotham. She’s getting the hell outta dodge and he should come with
her.

Meanwhile the locals have been restless and kicking the
sh** out of the rich. They hold mock trials and sentence the Mitt Romney
types to walk over the frozen ice where it eventually collapses and
they comically fall in. Gordon and his crew of Merrymen are caught and
sentenced to death by Jonathan Crane (aka Scarecrow) who has nothing
better to do these days. As Gordon and crew are walking to their
eventual death you’ll never guess who appears? Batman, who despite his
heavy armor can walk across the ice just fine with no problem
whatsoever. He also conveniently knew where to find Gordon JUST IN THE
NICK OF TIME. That’s not all. Batman is also a budding artist. He gives
Gordon a flare and tells him to go ahead and light it. Gordon need not
worry about melting the ice…it’s Bat-tested. So Gordon throws the
flare on the ice and it starts a line of fire (I’m laughing as I’m
typing this because it’s so dumb) and it reveals a HUGE fire logo of
Batman’s symbol. Not only did that probably take hours to do but it also
ruins the element of surprise. Hans Zimmer’s score blares the Batman
music for this monumental feat and I keep telling myself it’s going to
get better…it’s going to get better. Sad to say, it doesn’t.

So
by now this movie is so far gone it just doesn’t matter anymore and I
think Nolan knows it. I honestly believe he’s trolling the audience and
the critics just to see how much crap he can get away with. So back to
the movie. Bruce conveniently found Selina Kyle, conveniently found
Gordon just in time to save him. What’s one more time going to hurt?
John Blake, you’re up!! Batman saves Blake just in time from Bane’s crew
and for some reason tells Blake to wear a *beep* mask. Jesus H. Christ
Nolan can you telegraph the ending of this movie any more?!?

The
cops get free and they all exit their sewer-dwelling existence as if
they’ve been doing Bic shaving commercials. Ambitious weasel Foley has
turned to last minute good guy after Gordon convinces him to lead the
police charge against Bane’s men. The unarmed cops run straight into
Bane’s mercenaries who are armed with tanks and automatic rifles. Batman
once again comes out of nowhere in “The Bat” at the last second to aid
in the charge. I guess Bane’s guys run out of ammmo after a few seconds
(they can’t shoot worth a piss anyhow) because it just becomes a battle
royale of fists flying everywhere. Batman makes his way through the
crowd practically untouched and comes face to face with Bane for the
rematch while the chaos ensues all around them. The final fight scene of
Enter the Dragon instantly comes to mind with Bruce Lee about to battle
Han lol. Batman and Bane go at it and Batman targets Bane’s mask. It
seems he can’t breathe when that mask is continually getting hit and
Batman gets the upper hand. Batman starts screaming in his gruff comical
Bat-voice asking Bane the whereabouts of the trigger to detonate the
bomb. He’s about to do Bane dirty when Miranda Tate (aka Talia Al Ghul)
shanks Batman in the back and reveals her true identity. It’s supposed
to be a big plot twist but by this time I’m like who gives a rat’s
ass?!? Talia (like father, like daughter) talks about her and Bane’s
history and monologues her whole plan to a stunned Batman. While she’s
flapping her gums Gordon is playing action hero and manages to plant a
convenient device to block the neutron bomb from being detonated. Talia
finishes her life story and hits the button waiting for the explosion.
Nothing happens. Her plan has been foiled…curses!!

Talia
leaves Bane to finish the job on Batman but Catwoman sneaks up on
everyone with a suddenly silent Batpod and just in the nick of time
(yeah, it’s a running theme) saves Batman and blows Bane back to the
stone ages. Batman gets his 2nd wind despite having a serious knife
wound and chases Talia down in “The Bat” with Catwoman assisting on the
Batpod. Talia crashes the truck and starts the typical villain death
monologue. Rather than get the bomb out of Gotham ASAP Batman, Gordon,
and Catwoman stand there comically listening before she dies one of the
most horribly acted deaths I’ve ever seen. Batman looks at his watch and
figures he has a bit more time to waste with Gordon and Catwoman before
he finally starts towing the bomb out to sea away from Gotham. We see a
closeup of Batman’s face as he’s flying out to sea and the bomb finally
explodes. Gotham is saved and it’s the end of Batman….or is it?

Well,
everything is wrapped up nice and neat. We see Bruce Wayne’s funeral
with Alfred crying once again that he failed the family. I know it’s
supposed to be sad and all but I’m sick of Alfred’s sh**…sorry. Wayne
Manor basically becomes an orphanage. Batman gets a really cool statue
in his honor. We find out John Blake’s name is actually “Robin” in the
most cringe-worthy, eye-roll inducing way possible. Gordon is seen
checking out what looks like the new Bat, errr Blake-signal. Fox learns
the autopilot was fixed by Bruce Wayne and he gets a knowing expression.
Then we see Alfred in a scene that looks just like his cafe dream that
he had earlier in the movie. He looks over and sees Bruce with Selina
Kyle. Bruce smiles and Alfred smiles back….Batman is ALIVE!! I sure as
hell didn’t see that coming. The final shot of the movie is Blake
finding the Batcave signaling he’s the new Batman even though he’s had
no training and no wealth whatsoever. I can’t wait to see him get his
ass kicked. Cue the credits.

I was happy to see when Spoony first got Oreo. Dogs are great therapy. They’re there for you with nobody else may be. Mine sure helps me get through those sad days…

4got this last time. TV Tropes says Joker was executed off-screen for what he did in Dark Knight. 8 years between it and Rises, so I’ll buy it. Can’t top Heath Ledger.

The main complain I have with the movie is that Bane (as well as the other villain in this movie) is an incredibly boring villain. The most fun I had watching the movie was seeing the Scarecrow judging all those rich people and sentencing them to death or exile. The main villain of each movies (except for this one) was the only thing that brought the movie closer to what a superhero movie is. If you take out the excentric main villain, the Dark Knight just becomes an action movie with people in themed equipment.
Also, why is their absolutely no reference to the joker (I know Ledger is dead, but the character is still part of the series’ universe) or even Arkham Asylum?

Even after all that i want to say it is a GOOD MOVIE, no doubt ! Very impressive, feels special.
But no one single character get’s fully developed it all feels half-baked… like butter spread too thin on a large slide of bread.

In the second movie at least the Joker/Dent were the focus and they really had their development (at the expense of Batman’s)

Now no-one get’s anything substantial but Robin gets handled the best.

Listening to your review of TDKR made me appreciate the movie a lot more. I like how you guys explained that this film is very different in tone and story structure then the previous movies. And I especially liked how you praised the film for taking a risk with the storyline that the current comics are afraid to deviate. This film series in indeed more about Bruce Wayne’s journey and the deconstruction of the Batman mythos (or what elements make Batman what he is).

Nolan tried to make a serious Batman movie. Nice idea, but he left all the unrelistic comic stuff in it and still sold it as a character study. Now it does not make sense and people cant not help them self anymore by calling it artistic style. When the fusion bomb exploded a few miles away in air and everybody smiled relieved, even after they stated that the primary blast radius alone would be 600 miles, i started to hate this movie. I guess haters gotta hate;)

I think it’s entirely fitting that we don’t get closure on the Joker. Here’s why — after the events of the Dark Knight, the Joker wasn’t sent to Arkham or a normal prison. A terrorist like him would obviously be sent to a Federal Supermax prison in Alaska, the nigh-unescapable kind where you’re locked up in a tiny reinforced cell for 23 hours per day. After eight years of boredom, he finds out that Gotham City is going through the greatest period of terror and anarchy in modern history. And he has no way of affecting any of it. Even Crane gets in on the action! Batman’s worst torture was being in Bane’s pit while seeing things he couldn’t change play on a TV, but he eventually gets out. The Joker goes through the same thing, but his torture never ends.

Nolan gave the Joker his worst of all possible hells. To be forgotten, ignored, and glossed over.

Also, where did the Penguin get his army of penguins? Uh, from a pet store. You ever heard of this place called stores? Schaaa.

Yeah, you guys are missing the point. First off, it’s not Bane’s motivation for destroying Gotham that matters, it’s Talia’s motivation, and her motivation is revenge. She’s not, you know, creating a long-term agenda for the League of Shadows that fully expresses their Manichean ideology…. she’s just getting revenge for daddy. She’s a bitter-clinger, the last sad remnant of an organization that lasted for thousands of years. And Bane is a damaged golem that follows her unquestioningly. As cool as they are, they’re kind of sad and lost people, and after they’re gone the organized menace of the league will be gone forever.

You fail to understand the story arc that was Final Crisis and Batman RIP. Everyone knew Batman/Bruce Wayne wasn’t going to actually be killed off and that wasn’t Grant Morrison’s intentions. He was killing off the darker persona of Batman and even when Bruce did end up returning it led to Batman Inc and things did change. Bruce wasn’t sent back in time to live through past incarnations. Those incarnations were Bruce Wayne in those parts of history moving through time. I just think people should take the time to discuss things with other people and get explanations because a lot of criticisms and hatred stems from misunderstanding the material in question. Grant Morrison’s stories aren’t for everyone but he has done some of the best work for Batman that we’ve seen in awhile and once you kind of see the bigger picture he was going for you realize how great it is.

For anyone wondering: Theres a slight delay in the next Ultima video, because Spoony has a terrible migraine.

OK, I have seen all three of the Nolan movies, and the problem I have with them is simply that I am a Comic book fan, and these movies really have nothing to do with the comics.

All 3 movies are based on one simple thing, Nolan wanted to make a “Believable” Batman movie, and he did that. We see how Bruce Wayne is slowly breaking down as a human being, the Human body, no matter how well trained can take the kind of punishment the Batman suffers without long term effects. So in this last movie, when we see what has happened to Bruce Wayne walking around with a cane and making himself a shut in because of guilt and depression over losing the one woman he loved, it makes him more real as a character. You don’t see Christian Bale patrolling the streets of Gotham by swinging from roof top to roof top. These three movies are more like a DC Elseworld comic if anything, and I personally enjoy them for not being like the comics.

I am really looking forward to next Summer and Nolan’s new Project, Man of Steel. I have a feeling he is going to go back to the original Superman Movie Formula, you will believe a man can fly.

Where was Superman while all of this was going on? Same universe, there is no way he would allow that many people to die, and would have stepped in to help, since obviously everyone in the world knew what was going on. It would only make sense for him to show up. I call bullshit! That and this movie was boring as shit. Batman and Robin was terrible, but at least entertaining, this movie failed on all counts. All super heroes must die.

I’ve spent a solid 4 years following Spoony on the website and last night I hit the awful realisation that I’m not sure if I can continue. I’m sure I won’t be missed etc but Jesus Christ, Spoony, get off the fucking Twitter. I think there was one actual vaguely-pertaining-to-videos tweet in the past week that’s been buried beneath a pile of self-aggrandising bullshit. I know this has been going on for some time now but I’ve finally reached the lamentable point where I can no longer look at this man and not think “what an insufferable prick”. Maybe I just need to watch some videos again to drown these thoughts but I’ve already watched them back so many times waiting for new ones I’m starting to get a bit sick of them too. I’m going away today and will be back home on Wednesday – I don’t expect any new content when I return. If there’s a written apology for contempt of his fans or, hell, an actual schedule that doesn’t revolve around conventions and Twitter I might just be sated. But there won’t be, will there?

Is he our fucking parent? I dont see him popping out a tit and having anyone suckle on it so I kinda think not. He isnt an elected public official. Hes a reviewer, critic and entertainer. And you know what? THATS FUCKING TIME CONSUMING YOU OVERENDULGED SHIT SUCKERS! Now I’ve written scripts, I’ve done projects that involve bits of video editing and I can tell you even a simple project can be a major pain in the ass. Not to mention a majority of it is likely the work of ONE GUY….you know…THE GUY WHOSE NAME IS AT THE TOP OF THE FUCKING SITE!
And while we’re at it. How about everyday life? You know….sleeping, eating, taking care of his household, maybe he has a job ASIDE from this that he has to take care of, spending time with his family (Miles, parents, etc.), trying to have a social life with people (whether involved with the internet review business or otherwise) and trying to keep himself healthy considering he has health issues. I can relate to quiet a bit of that. I have health issues that stem from genetic predispositon that made itself known only a year ago. It can kick my ass hard too when it decides to rear its ugly mug. I have to balance being a single father of two, being a twenty five year old male with a social life, a pending divorce a job AND my health. And it stresses me the fuck out and depresses me to no end sometimes. I can relate, to some degree at least, to what he has going on with his life. I’m not claiming I know what goes on in his mind, his own personal experiences or anything like that. But I can sympathize with the man. And I know he doesnt need some guy like me defending him and maybe someone else has said the shit I have or similar to it.
But you know what? He’s done me a lot of good over the few years since I became aware of his show. He, along with other people who take the time to do shows like him, has made me laugh, kept me entertained and kept me in a decently stable mindset through a lot of rough times. I always look forward to his reviews, v-logs, quick vids or whatever he posts up. Hell Ive gone back and rewatched quiet a bit of his vids so many times I can almost quote them verbatim. I dont sit here and expect him to do a video when and where I want it to happen. Would I like to see more posts on here? Hell yeah I would. Do I expect him to stop his entire life to do so? FUCK NO! I appreciate the time and effort he puts in to entertain us. I’m not here to kiss his ass or to be some kind of metaphoricle martyr. And you are all welcome to have your complaints about not having enough spoony vids to satiate you and express your opinions. But so do I. And here’s my opinion.

Your site content has to be the first priority, and right now that isn’t the case, and it is obvious. I can’t put it any more simply than that.

… I get why you said “Big Trouble in Little China”, Spoony. It’s cheesy, campy 80s fun with a solid scripts, decent action, good comedy, some thought provoking foreshadowing if you think about it, and it’s just an all around good movie. Not great, but a great candidate for a personal favorite movie.

As for Dark Knight Rises, I think it’s flawed but good. There’s a good movie there and it does break new ground in the Batman movie franchise, but it’s mired in a lot of flaws and plot holes. The advertising was also pretty bad. After I saw Dark Knight Rises, I was pissed and ended up seeing Brave immediately afterward.

Brave is actually on about the same level, but for the opposite reason. Brave treads old ground with a new movie, but it has flaws in it too. There’s a specific contrivance in Brave that pops up several times, but the rest of the movie is very good. The advertising for Brave also did a very good job of making the movie interesting without giving away the whole plot during the ads.

To me, both of those movies are in the 8 to 8.5 out of 10 range. With Brave being slightly higher due to having less plot holes.

He’s a narcissistic douche. I used to be a fan, then I saw how he treated his fans. Not to mention the fact that the only videos he puts out are 2 hours of him bitching because he likes the sound of his own voice. I loved Spoony, but I won’t support someone who has this much contempt for the people that made him something in the first place.

You know what would go a long way for Spoony? He should put down the Diet Coke, do some exercise, get a shave and a haircut, and then come back fully energized, ready to put out a review. I’ve fought in both Iraq and Afghanistan, so in my eyes Spoony’s mental problems seem fairly small. If he actually made an effort to clean himself up it would be a big first step getting back to the Spoony we used to know.

Also, it’s time to put the dog out when he’s recording. I love dogs, but do we really need to be interrupted time after time during a review. It’s getting old.

I can understand people being mad about the New 52 when you’re talking about characters that are just flat out gone but for everything else the way I see it is summed up with a couple words: alternate realities. I hate this concept in comic books but once you accept them you can see these reboots as merely a condensing of similar realities. To sum up, I still see the past histories as effecting the characters and fix the tone in my mind to how it should be. However, this does not excuse things being rewritten in the current universe. Batman should of never been raped and Damian should not exist as the offspring of that…thing. I like Damian as a separate character and as Dick’s Robin, but when looking at his relation to Batman it’s just insulting. Bruce Wayne did not deserve that, after all he’s done. And why can’t he just have a normal kid? It’s starting to appear as a creepy cult to me.

The thing that just struck me is why none of the cops worked out who batman is. If you look back when batman first appeared he was driving around in his bat tank blowing up stuff and the police were often chasing him in helicopters and cop cars. This was all over the media at the time. Then later on they see Bane and his crew riding around in bat tanks. How? Sure they were a different colour but the exact same design and the design is so unique that it stands out like a sore thumb. Then next question is where did he get such an arsenal from? Did he copy the batman’s bat tank. Also all the board members knew they just got robbed of their bomb and other junk and these things suddenly show up? Then lets go one step further and go for something pretty obvious that Batman has a lot of tech at his finger tips so he must be loaded. Put it all together and on top of the fact that as soon as Bruce Wayne comes back from his years of being a shut in that the Batman suddenly reappears??? You would at least think Batman is in league with Bruce Wayne if not HE IS BRUCE WAYNE! Anyway just my two cents.

I know I am late commenting here, but been very busy and just around to seeing TDKR and then this review of it. My biggest problem with the movie is all the plot-holes- we’re told the prison Bane came from was an almost entirely dark hell hole with very little light, but when we see the prison it’s not like that at all! The Miranda Tate ‘twist’ was laughably easy to predict, and the lead-in to the sex scene was terrible (“Hey, who is in this picture?” “My dead love. Let’s get it on.” C’mon!) How did Batman not fall through the frozen river in his extremely heavy suit/ gear? Things like these happened throughout and drove me crazy. However, there was a lot to like here. Excellent review, I always love hearing your opinions.

I really hope Noah doesn’t read these bullshit comments about people bringing him down.
