Noah & Miles team up for the most unsettling cultural train-wreck of a meal, as they combine Highlander Brew and Mead with a cuisine of bratwurst, mashed potatoes, and about 6 lbs of European candy brought back from Ireland!
Get a haircut, hippie.
Get back in the nursing home granddad.
Oh you two.
You have got to be kidding me.
Liking teh ponytail.
the Spoonytail you mean?
*watches Oreo following every tiny bit of candy Spoony shows to the camera*
nice to have you back Spoony! i was in Austria not that long ago it was great too! great food nice people and good beer lol
I feel the OCD rising in me as I look at that table. I feel the overwhelming urge to clean and organize all that stuff.
how about you finish editing your ultima review so I can never visit your website again
How about you stop being an asshole and demanding things that are free to you?
Seriously, how dare you be a rude asshole? What makes you think you can be like this, because it’s the internet?
It’s funny that you call him rude when you are the one using foul language. Also, you do realize that Spoony has accepted donations… is accepting donations… So some here HAVE PAID!!
1. I have no respect for people that take free things and then treat the creator like shit.
2. No. You don’t get to complain about content just because you have freely donated your money to Spoony. Honestly, you SHOULD donate, because it’s a kind thing to do for someone who puts out GREAT content, but you still don’t get to complain. If Spoony was charging $2 or $3 for an episode or $10 a month for access to the site, then maybe you could complain about how often he puts out videos, but he doesn’t.
Yea, TheSpoonyOne deserves to be donated to. He a lot cares about his friend and fans. Everyone should hit that paypal button because he works very hard every day to get content up on this website and needs the extra motivation to keep up the great effort.
Yes, because you can only be rude by swearing….jeez.
And donating is donating…it’s entirely voluntary and it does NOT put Spoony on some sort of enforced schedule of any kind. No-one is forcing you, and nowhere does it say that content will be made faster or to order if someone parts with a few bucks.
The selfish sense of self-entitlement some of you so-called “fans” have is unbelievable.
See what all you clueless fanboys fail to grasp is that while these videos may be free to watch, he isn’t making them out of the kindness of his heart, he is making them to pay his bills. Building up such a large fanbase and then basically taking advantage of them by shitting out stupid videos like these vlogs is a slap in the face. Maybe when you finally realize that he doesn’t give a flying fuck about this website and is just trying to use the least amount of effort possible to get ad revenue you will grow to dislike him as much as I have. I loved his work since FF8 and this site has gone downhill SO BAD. I’m done with it as soon as he brings his over inflated ego to finish his review. Do you realize it’s been 2 months since Part 1 (asuming that it took about 1-1.5 months to edit Part 1) it’s been ABOUT 4 MONTHS FOR HIM TO DO THIS.
He is utterly lazy, and does not give 2 fucks about his fanbase, this video is proof.
To be fair, if I had fans like his, I wouldn’t give 2 fucks about my fanbase either.
So which “fans” would you prefer to deal with?
The creepy sycophants who stalk you, suck your cock online and occasionally arrive at your house?
Or the entitled twats making ridiculous demands of their FREE source of entertainment?
How about you choke on a cock. Nobody asked you to come here. If you’re waiting on the Ultima videos, why are you watching this one? Go to the page and see if the Ultima stuff is up, if it’s not, then leave! if it is, watch it, THEN LEAVE!
I have a better idea…. Why doesn’t spoony do his own thing and upload it whenever he himself feels it’s ready since, well, it’s his own website? Oh he can do that? Well then. You have the right to leave or stay and be considered a jerk by a lot of us(Myself included). Seriously, sure spoony gets fanbase and donations but in the end, he gives us reviews for free so complaining over free content, especially really funny content is simply rude. Please, think before you type. Sure it’s the internet but regardless of where you are, you DO need to show common decency
Hey, a new Spoony vid, and it’s a blog. Gonna be close to an hour, as usual.
*one hour and 18 minutes*
You never do anything half-assed, now do you, mr. Antwiler?
Most normal beers have 5% alcohol and Lion-bars are awesome, as is all chocolate from Europe.
Loving Mile’s shirt. Borderlands is a fucking awesome game.
(and i noticed the sign right away aswell, i’m that brainwashed :)
5.0% Is rather normal for beer. Atleast for strong beer :)
budweiser is 5% so highlander beer is as weak as piss beer. strong beer is at least 7%.
Idk why the comment in reply to me was flagged since it was a good response. But in reply to it…
I wasn’t saying it was bad beer. Just as weak as some bad beers. Sure, it’s all personal preference and I do enjoy some beers in the 5% range. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is one of my favs when I’m just at the grocery store buying some. I wouldn’t say I am spoiled, since I don’t go out of my way to obtain them. Most of the higher end ones that I buy are either at pubs or at the liquor store. I guess I just have good taste. ;) Also, helps having worked in a liquor store in the past where I got to sample better brews to find the ones I like. But, I do hate Budweiser and wouldn’t drink that crap even if it was free.
as Herkules said, 5% is actually considered “the norm” as far as alcohol content is concerned. Weak beer would be the stuff they serve at festivals and in football stadiums over here (2,5%). Over here, stronger beer is generally considered an acquired taste by most casual beer drinkers. Incidentally, while stronger beer tends to have much more flavor to it, that isn’t necessarily the case.
And even then, if people want to infer how ‘good’ a beer is solely from its alcohol content, I’d advise them to just go for vodka. Much more bang for your buck.
Weird, never seen a 2.5% beer in my life. Usually light beer is around 4% here. Yeah, alcohol content is not the end-all, be-all but usually the higher percentages have a more distinct flavor. But, hey what do I know, I’m just some idiot drunk.
Grolsch used to have a few types of 2.5% beer in supermarkets over here (weirdly, it never really did catch on so most people quietly forgot about them), at least one of which had a lemon flavor.
As for the stadium and festival stuff, it’s not really advertised as being only half-strength, but it certainly tastes that way ;)
Love the fact that u are doing a “Spoony tries” but simmering a Bratwurst is a capital sin ; ) u just grill it.
Actually, steaming them works great if you aren’t going for smoke-flavoring.
You can brown/sear them afterwards if you want the grill-taste.
It’s an option for rainy days when you can’t grill properly.
I like food tasting shows in general, I like the Brad Tries series and I have to say, I do enjoy this from Spoony and Miles
As for people calling you Hippy because of your hairs, I have my hairs longer than you and thus, I invite them to call *me* a hippy instead. (Even though neither of us are a Hippies.)
Your hair is disgusting… but I love it <3
Should you, someday find your way to Germany, especially North Rhine-Westphalia, come to the Zu den Vier Winden in Bochum.
It is a bar for geeks, nerds and generally strange people.
They have awesome mead and a quite interesting collection of drinks. ^^
Honestly, what do you have in the states? My god they have never seen aero or orange chocolate!
We have orange chocolate. We don’t have Aero because it’s Cadbury which is largely not sold here. Hershey makes something really, really similar to Aero (at least in theory, it’s advertised the same way, with the bubbles and everything).
Aeros are made by Nestle, not Cadburys. The Cadburys version is the Wispa which is far superior IMO. That’s not even taking into account the caramel variation, Wispa Gold which is amazingly great.
The orange chocolate is made by Terry’s.
Ohhh, okay. Gotcha.
My point stands though, we don’t have a LOT of Nestle in the states either (we have some, someone mentioned Crunch bars, which I believe are Nestle). I assume they don’t sell Aero bars because of how popular Hershey is.
… In Canada we got all that shit. xD
There is orange chocolate in the states, but it is rather rare. The best we have are these balls of chocolate that are somewhat orange flavored.
FUCK OFF PENISTEARINGGRYFIN!
Don’t mind him. He’s an idiot whose account should have been banned ages ago.
Yeah…lets go on with the banning spree.
FUCK OFF YOU INEPT TWAT CRAWL BACK INTO THE CANTANKEROUS HOLE YOU FAILED OUT OF!
I prefer mint aero tbh. And not having that in the states is a crime :)
You should come to Quebec, we have awesome alcohol like Maple flavored whiskey and awesome beer
I think the Laffy Taffy thing might have been a Milky Way bar, since I remember giving him one at the con and they’re pretty much small bars really soft, fluffy nougaty stuff covered in chocolate.
I must say though, there’s something really amusing about seeing someone being all ‘Wow, this foreign strangeness’ to chocolate that you’ve been eating your whole life. XD
I doubt it was a Milky Way, as they are sold all over the states (Mars is based is the U.S. after all) and I doubt he would have never had one before, or not have known what it was.
Just wait till he opens the bag of crisps and finds it’s only half full.
You should try some czech beer – like american beer is a piss, german beer is ok but czech beer is the best in the world. And yeah, 4-5 % of alcohol is a standard for beers (we say it’s 10° and 12° beer).
That’s a bit of a douchy comment. Americans make a lot of great beers too. You shouldn’t discredit the beer making skills of a nation of 300 million people just because they’ve made Budweiser or Miller Light. Besides, calling any beer piss is unsophisticated. Just call it poor beer.
But yes, Czhecs definitely make some of the best beers in the world and I absolutely love them. I’m not sure if they’re for Spoony, though, since he said he doesn’t even like beer that much.
Man, it’s Czechs. Learn how to spell it or I will get angry :P Ok, it’s very likely that there is some good beer in America, but in overall it has very low reputation in world. I’m drinking good beer almost every day and I bet – if I visit States and go to the first pub and order some beer, I would be disappointed. And that’s the difference – you can go to any pub in Czech republic and you will almost everytime get a very good beer.
Yea, sorry about the spelling. That is the only thing in the world that I can’t spell. That and every other Czech last name I’ve ever heard. They have so many consonants stacked next to each other…
I’ve seriously googled the spelling of the word like fifty times and I still get it wrong every time. I just can’t be bothered anymore.
What’s the deal? It’s easy. It’s like “check”, you just have to switch “h” and “k” and put “z” instead of “k”. Easy, lol.
You’re seriously going to call this guy out on a simple misspelling? Even after your display of poor English grammar?
We have shit beer too and its called 40′s really high alcohol content so you can get drunk faster/cheaper, and usually only poor people drink it.
Cadbury’s is some of the worst “chocolate” you can get.
It’s a hell of a lot better than every bit of American chocolate I’ve had.
Cadbury’s Carmellos (in the US) were great until they changed something in their recipe about three years ago.
I dunno what happened, but the chocolate tastes most acidic, and the caramel tastes…weird. And it’s a bit “lumpier” or thicker.
The really are are lots of good beer brands in the US, I guess it just depends on where you are and whether you drink beer often enough to have come across them. Here in San Diego there’s a very big craftbrew scene and so there’s lots of microbreweries that make great beers to try out. By contrast I was in Canton, Ohio for a while and they had a kind of beer called Yuengling (I think that’s how it’s spelled) which was purported to be a local craftbrew – and it absolutely sucked. And I wasn’t alone in that opinion, either. I’m positive there were other, better kinds but that was the “premier” so to speak. Kinda like how Stone is a premier local brand in San Diego.
Here in England, “Moro” bars are “Boost” bars. As for Curly Wurly, the caramel is really the only selling point for it. They, and Chomp bars, are just hard caramel with a little chocolate around them. The chocolate is only there because selling hard caramel on it’s own is pretty much not done.
I love his description of a Lion Bar. Very lumpy turd. LMAO!
Mead on the other hand… that’s something we need more of here… ‘cuz Chaucer’s ain’t cuttin’ it!
Apparently it’s easy to make and can be made with wine yeast, although there is also such a thing as mead yeast.
My friend has family in Germany and one time brought back with him some mead made by his great uncle using the honey collected at his beekeep. It was aged 10 years when we opened it and was in a ceramic bottle. We busted it out on a camping trip and passed it around.
It was the single best beverage I’ve EVER had! :D
1 episode of Spoony Tries and I think he has eaten/drank more than Brad has on an entire series of Brad Tries. Loved the episode by the way. I really hope you do more. As for the chocolate thing, about the best chocolate you are getting in the states is Ghiradelli brand chocolate. I was wondering about that bubble chocolate, how is it any different from a Crunch bar.
It’s a lot different, Crunch bars have the little crunchy things in them, where bubble chocolate is just filled with a lot of holes.
So in a way you’re actually paying for what is in essence less chocolate…
Lol you may as well get a regular Hershey’s bar and just chew it with your mouth open :P
Well I’ve never seen Aero sold in the same place as Hershey bars, but I mean, I guess. It’s just like a different texture. It’s good, and it IS different than eating just normal Hershey bars, but it’s still just chocolate.
You should see the old episodes of Lordkat Eats, that guy really put Brad to shame. I’d be curious to see what happens if Spoony ever tried Surstromming. Miles would probably have to arrest him for attempted murder.
we dont talk about lordkat here. lordkat is dead to us, dead.
…why exactly? Because he left TGWTG for personal reasons? Just like Spoony did?
Oh I don’t know, probably because he told Spoony that he should kill himself a few months ago??? No matter who says that kind of shit about whom, that is unacceptable.
Where did he do that? I dont recall that ever happening.
Yeah well do a bit of research into the whole Twitter mess that happened because he did do that in one of his livestreams. I can’t tell you which one of the top of my head but I’ve seen it and since then have read about it on several forums that were following the entire damn mess in real time and then recapping for those who missed. I know it sounds like I put way too much effort into researching this but I really just wanted to get all the different point of views to make up my own mind. Anyway, I’m not just making this up, I swear.
nope he openly attacked spoony, started a bunch of shit, ultimately being one of many reasons spoony left tgwtg. (lupa teamed with lk to talk shit and harrass spoony)
Surströming is awesome! You have to eat it whit some flatbread and onions and sauce ;P
Well, I love the flatbread (and the snaps), but I’ll pass on the surströmming. No rotten fish for me!
The whole table was FULL of food! Spoony went all out! But I gotta say Crunch bars are different from bubble chocolate(And better tasting in my opinion)
Oreo licking beer is ridiculously cute, but careful! Dogs can be alcoholics too ;)
LOL the very image of Oreo being drunk…. Too hilarious and cute to ignore
Oreo: Ahh screw you *hiccup* I’mma play with mah squeaky toys!
I just noticed your brothers shirt about halfway through the video. I love it :)
You should do more of these kind of videos. They’re interesting and different. It would be an interesting toss in the mix of videos you do.
Wow, two guys getting wasted off two and a half beers. It’s like grade school all over again.
For the alcohol content, 5% for a beer is average. about 10% is the highest i ever seen for a beer. Mead is like wine in that 14% is average, the mead me and my brother make is around 21%.
Agreed. Any higher than 10% and you’re approaching more of a barley wine..
Disagreed, Belgian Trappisten and other heavy beers are often in the 8-12 range
no shit? huh….well….as much as i hate stereotypes i have to admit sometimes that american beer pretty much is piss. I mean railbender is about the strongest i’ve found.
Drink Grolsch Kanon (11,5%) or Kasteelbier (11%). That’s some good shit
dude u cant make stronger than 18% without any aditional booze/distillation so i call BULLSHIT :D
Oh no, some random person on the internet said i’m lying. woe is upon me, how will i ever recover? Oh yeah, because i’m not lying, and i do make a 21% mead, but go ahead thinking i dont. I can honestly say that it makes no difference whatsoever if you dont believe me.
Traditional yeasts can’t go over 18%, although it might mutate and let you break that limit a bit. It tends to produce an off taste.
However, some newer types of commercial yeast can go all the way up to 25%
If you use natural yeasts, you can’t assume anything. Usually between 10% and 25%
“Tokyo” by Brewdog is 18.2%
I find American beers are a bit stingy on the alcohol and more importantly the flavour, Belgian beers are the real thing. Leffe blond (6.6%) is pretty amazing as is Leffe 9 (9%), Kasteelbier (11%) is one of my personal favourites but the real prize is Duvel (8.5%).
You should do a ‘Spoony tries’ on these beers and get really drunk ;)
The older local breweries still follow good guidelines.
Had a stiff lager from a place on the shore of Lake Erie this summer.
And Point beer in Wisconsin is like my own personal Germany. They follow the same conventions.
Of course, then you get to the pisswash that is Miller, Budweiser and the like. Which barely qualifies as beer.
was a lager from the great lakes brewery? gotta be my favorite brand of american beer, and they’re brewed right near me. normally i stick to canadian beer though. unless i’m buying mass quanitites, then it’s Busch for everybody! =D
I’m absolutely terrible with names.
Will have to check my phone later. Took a picture of it.
I just remember them claiming to be the oldest working brewery in the United States. Not sure if that’s true or not.
i’m pretty sure that be Yeungling then, which is brewed in Pennsylvania. definitely can’t hold a candle to Great Lakes
Yeah. That’s the one.
It wasn’t bad. Bitter and “hoppy” as sin.
Haven’t had any Great Lakes lager yet.
Another good Belgian beer is a “Bangelijke” (9.5%), antwerp locally brewed, only found in 1 place (translates as “a scary one / an awesome one”).
If you like Duvel (who doesn’t?) try “Omer”. Not bad (similar taste, i think 8 %)
And i also like the ‘new’ Seef Beer (6.5%, an old lost recipe recently remade)
Sure, when you live in Belgium you’re gonna be drinking local brews more often than not but Leffe and Duvel are the two you might actually be able to easily order if you live in Arizona :D
ps: I’m from Bruges so Brugse Zot is the one I should be proud of, won world’s best beer a couple of years ago.
Ahh, saw your name (resisting the obvious pun) and figured you’d also live here in Belgium.
So you can find Duvel (and Leffe) there? that’s pretty cool! :)
Yeah it really is, I once convinced a Scottish mate of mine that Maes was a family business owned by a far cousin of mine, fun times :p
I meet Spoony at the Irish convention, it’s weird seeing things from my local gas station being called exotic.
American chocolate leaves an aftertaste of vomit, something to do with adding corn syrup because it makes it cheaper to manufacture.
Yeah, it’s mostly because of the corn syrup.
Corn syrup is probably the worst thing that the USA has ever mass produced.
My father helped clear up my colic when I was an infant with Kero syrup, so I can’t agree that its the worst thing.
I do agree that chocolate in the US has taken a rather nasty waxy taste to it since the late 90′s.
Its not because of the cheapness, its due to some kind of embargo on the import of sugar from cuba…now that I think about it…it is cheaper as the embargo raised the price of sugar immensely. Carry on
actually the sugar tariff (not embargo) isn’t against Cuba, the tariff is against all foreign sugar producers Brazil produces a lot of sugar cain and sugar cain isn’t the only place we get sugar from beats have been used to produce sugar since Napoleon’s time. Mexico also produces a lot of sugar cain, and other Central/South American countries as well as other islands. What it is is the corn growers were looking for more ways to make money so they got our government to put an tariff on sugar and peddled out their high fructose garbage on everything and people bought it cause it is cheaper domestically. Most of the reasons stuff sucks in the US is because of government corruption and greed. A lot of European food actually comes from the USA but we send them the good stuff we keep all the GMO tainted garbage cause no-one else in the world is dumb enough to buy it. Our population had it slowly introduced to the point that its taken over and we have to pay through the nose for real food that isn’t tainted by pesticides, gmo’s, hormones, hfc, or other nasty stuff.
Yeah, the agriculture industry is pretty screwed up. Did you know that the government gives farms subsidies to not produce beyond a certain amount of food? It’s a byproduct of an old law from the Great Depression.
“…land became concentrated in the hands of fewer farmers, and agribusiness was born, and along with it the sad joke that the government paid farmers for not growing crops”
So you would prefer if we only grew and consumed organic foods then? O.o
not at all people can eat whatever garbage they want. I don’t even mind buying it for them. I myself have taste buds though and I don’t like GMO food. I’ll eat it if there’s nothing else or if I’m served it. I’m not gonna be a jerk if someone cooks me food using GMO stuff. In all honestly the taste differences are minimal but I appreciate the little things in life, unless I’m running low on cash then screw it all and bring on the ramin, cheap rice and beans.
also most organic stuff isn’t even pure organic, often times they use pesticides. The government even allows them to use pesticides and still call it organic. Food is always best if you grow it yourself but even then some animal or person can take a dump in your garden and give you hepatitis or if the water you use has uranium, jet fuel, or who knows what else can give you cancer so really every bite you take of any food is like playing Russian roulette. I try not to think about it but who knows how much of an acceptable amount of rat feces get into your Cheerios, have fun at breakfast with that one.
Most GMO products are made just so they can grow here and in shitty conditions – hardiness.
yeah i know, they also breed them to be resistant to fungi, bacteria, and nematodes, but think about it, the food is so nasty that even fungi, bacteria, and nematodes don’t want to eat them. They’re more snobbish than people. :P
The after taste is why I absolutely cannot stand Hershey’s chocolate. Their dark chocolate is nasty. I will shell out extra money for higher quality by US standards, which are sadly very low. There are a few places here where we can get decent quality candy and chocolate.
Corn syrup, as in Kero syrup, is usually used(sparingly) as a stablizer in chocolate and candy. At least when it’s homemade. However, I dislike how much of it is used in everything. It’s even in our fuel.(Ethanol)
It can also be used to make cheap fake blood.
Because Spoony has a Tendency to bury important Tweets in Smalltalk Ill repost it here:
“Ugh, that reminds me. I need a new source of FF13 footage. The person who got it for me is now refusing to let me use it.”
Maybe he can contact Bennett the Sage? The guy helped him get his footage for X-2, plus he owns the game.
I’m entertained by how much of this “crazy UK candy” We have on the shelves here in Canada.
I would love some of that candy! Better head over to England!
Is it me, or is the Taxi candy bar named after that classic TV show or that crappy Jimmy Fallon/Queen Latifah movie?
Spoony, what you really needed to try were some of the honeycomb-type candy bars.
Ooh, like Crunchie bars? those are good :D
Yep, those are the ones!
My friend in Northern Ireland introduced me to those when I visited – and then when I got home I discovered that a local foreign food store nearby me actually carried them. Those really need to get bigger in the states..
well damn it, now i want to be drunk in the middle of the day and grill some brats
So much awsome, but yeah that turkish delight stuff is horrible, also not proper turkish delight the real stuff is so much nicer. As for the Lion bars they also did a peanut version which basically added a whole load of peanut butter into the middle, there was also a KitKat chunky like that too. Also your reaction to Twirls was awsome.
and Oreo. pure win.
I have had both Russian and German chocolate and I was not all that impressed to be honest. I have also had Japanese chocolate. They were better than regular old Hershey bars of course, but I have had better (then again in my town there is a German restaurant that also makes and sells fresh chocolate in a building beside the main restaurant). You can find great chocolate in the U.S. too, you just need to look in the right places, especially for places that make it fresh and on-site. I suppose it is kind of unfair to compare packaged chocolate of any kind to fresh made chocolate though.
oh i agree. just were i live we arent known for that. i have heard that the Amana colonies in Iowa really have some good stuff , including chocolate. but until then, im not missing it, you know?
American beer is piss? Maybe. But you’re all wrong regarding which beer is the best.
Sure, I like German, Belgian, Dutch and Czech beers too, but they ALL pale next to the real thing.
And what is that? Haha! It’s from Finland! And it’s called “Lapin Kulta”, and it’s silky smooth, but strong! It might not be available everywhere, but God Damn, that’s a good beer!
Failing to find that, I can always go with the ole Irish Guinness.
Danish beer is king!
You know it´s true. ;-)
Well guys, I think Spoony needs to make some Beer contest. Every country can nominate one brand of beer and Spoony will decide which one is the best. I vote for Pilsner Urquell ;o) Czech beer ftw
Pilsner Uruell sounds German not Czech…..
The name is German, but the beer is, in fact, Czech. The City of Pilsen (Plzen in Czech) lies in Bohemia, which used to be part of the Holy Roman Empire and then Austria-Hungary, but became part of Czecheslovakia in 1918, after their independce. The brewerey was founded in 1840-ish (I think), and back then the ruling class spoke German – hence the name.
It’s one of the reasons why German and Czech beers are very much related. In fact, “Pils” (which is technically a kind of Lager) is the most popular type of beer in Germany, allthough the regional differences are immense (which applies to Germany in general, by the way).
Pilsner Urquell sounds like it’s from Ohio.
Please tell me you’re kidding. I mean, I like drinking Finnish bulk beer, it quenches your thirst and goes down easily in large quantities… but you can’t seriously compare the basic Finnish lagers to Czech or Belgian ones. They are just on another level.
So true. Finnish beer is so average it hurts.
Bullshit. Lapin Kulta is the mildest beer in Finland and _the_ most laughed at beer in the country. Karhu is probably the most popular beer in Finland and even that isn’t anything special. Seriously, Lapin Kulta is known as “reindeer piss” and it’s watery drivel. Avoid, avoid avoid!
True. I’m from Finnland and I think Lapin Kulta is pretty low on my list too. But I think that even though Karhu is quite known to foreign people it tastes almost exactly like Koff which is like your average go-and-get-drunk beer but the BEST one is Olvi. At least for me. It doesn’t have that strong of a taste but I just like how smooth it tastes and you can enjoy one bottle without gringing unlike with Koff. So I’d rank them following:
3. Lapin Kulta
5. All the cheap brands like ES, Pirkka etc.
Guinness for the win man.
Never had Finnish beer.. I rather liked Swedish Nils Oskar Imperial Stout though.
It was like Guinness but with a more chocolaty aftertaste.
Oh man, poor Miles! All that candy is sucking the life out of him…
i did pause the video to set my bass down noticed that miles looked like he was gonna pass out. prolly around 45 minutes or so. funny stuff
Mead can hit people hard. I had some homebrew at a LARP event and I was practically a member of the living dead until I fell asleep and I usually drink straight Jagermeister and absinthe/sambuca based cocktails without problems.
I’ll see if I can rustle up a bottle of the Herald’s homebrew next event and have it sent in…assuming he doesn’t make another hard batch and customs cordon off the package as a bomb threat.
“Ephemora” like you call it is actually Canadian from Quebec (my province). So you bought canadian alcohol in Ireland?
and its not cider it’s beer made with green apple juice. and never though unibroue were exporting to europe.
They’re own by belgian dudes now, so it’s not too surprising.
You should try Samuel Adam’s Cherry Wheat then. Great beer if you like cherry flavor. Yuengling is pretty bad, its from Pennslyvania. Their black and tan, which combines their lager and their porter is about the best from them. Individually, both aren’t that good, but the combination somehow works and has a lighter guiness-like taste. About the best beers from the states are Samuel Adam’s Boston Lager, Leinenkugel (their Classic Amber is good, their limited golden lager was great), and I enjoy the Michelob’s Amber Bock. None are Guinness though…hehe hehe. But I prefer my beers on the dark side of things. You might be more of an India Pale Ale and other lighter beers type of person. Some people like beers with other fruit flavors like lemon, blueberry, rasperry, etc, tend to be very fruity. The Cherry Wheat is about the only one I like, but I really like Cherries, so it makes sense.
I hope you recover from the sugar overload Spoony.
Also, keep rockin’ that ponytail, I like it.
I remember Solitary. I loved that show. The computer voice got really creepy.
Any tips where I can get the show? I’ve found only 4th season on the internet. And it looks hilarious, i want to see all of it :P
Sites like Hulu and Xfinity show the various episodes, just have to search for them. Though Amazon sells the episodes at around $1.99 each.
Spoony, I love ya, but please don’t lump all American beers in with fucking MillerBudCoors. There’s a lot of great American beer out there, you just have to find some good craft breweries like Stone or New Belgium or Lagunitas, to mention a few.
Sierra Nevada, The Boston Beer Company, Great Divide. Plenty of good breweries, but the mainstream selection is rather poor.
Was I the only one expecting Oreo to say ‘I will PUNCH you in the SOUL!!’ when Spoony told her that she was in his way?
Was that a Stargate reference just there? Oh yes please!
Glad your back Spoony
When I had Aero, it was like a little bar like the moro sized. Personally I would eat the huge thing, but I buy cases of Andes Candies and just eat them pretty quickly. And I like the bubbles. XD
Milky Bars have only one thing memorable about them – an awful series of adverts where pasty ginger kids in glasses dress up as cowboys and hand them out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGcIUitNlGQ
You did NOT just diss the Milky Bar Kid did you? He’s strong and tough, and only the best is good enough….damn, those ads are ingrained in my psyche.
Yeah, I guiltily admit that I actually like the Milky Bar adverts. They’re still awful, though! ;)
its funny to see spoony showing how lion chocolate looks like , because i have them every day in my shops :) , its like showing whats a coca cola is :D, i was always thinking that those lions were common and are everywere
You never seen Aero and KitKat chunkies in the states? That’s weird, we’ve had them for ages in Canada. I’m also pretty sure you received Éphémère beer (http://unibroue.com/en/beers/5/product) which is actually from microbrewery from Quebec that was bought out by Molson.
Oh but Spoony Ireland isn’t part of the UK! Northern Ireland however is, but not the Republic of Ireland! If you told an Irsih person that they were United Kingsdomers they would seriously throw leprechauns after you.
Leave Spoony alone, he’s very well travelled for a Canadian.
We do have those Terry’s chocolate oranges here in the states around Christmas. Maybe the Turkish delight had some rose flavor in it? That’s a traditional flavor for it, though I agree it is gag-worthy. I have a hard time imagining Miles made it on his run after this.
Yeah, Turkish Delight is rose flavour, and very nice it is too. But only a small amount, too much can make you feel sick really quickly.
Oh my god! This needs to be a new series! I’m dead serious. This was just brilliant. Loved you, miles and oreo trying out the alcohol and then you and miles eating chocolate…. however is it weird you now made me really hungry?
With regards to bubbles in chocolate not doing anything…
The bubbles are there for an interesting reason. They make the chocolate
melt on your tongue a lot faster than a solid bar of chocolate would.
This in turn makes the chocolate taste much stronger than it would be
without the bubbles.
Which is why a Whisper bar tastes a lot more chocolatey than a slab of chocolate. :D
It is good to see you guys doing a lets try with some decent beer ;)
believe me, I do want to see more of these. I hope that if I find myself at a con your at, that youd take a 6 pack of some of my home-brew.
Believe me it will not kill you! :P
ohhh and you guys haven’t even tried bad mead! Bad mead tastes like your drinking poison.
horrible alcoholic poison.
Try Irish Whiskey, Spoony, and you’ll be skyrocketing… >: )
We, in Holland, call those Orange Chocolate Snacks “Pims”…
Noah leaves the camera for one second, Miles’ eyes EXPLODE up like he realizes that he has to try and entertain us.
Like Garth gets left alone in Wayne’s World LOL
“Ever see that scene from Scanners when that dude’s head blew up?”
Miles is pretty funny when drinking, not to say he isn’t funny when sober
On the painting- that was actualy Commissioned by the Con as Spoony’s official Geust Gift, so most of the thanks should good to the wonderful people who run Con Bravo. As for the painting it’s self the rasized area is actualy pre cut out and glued down bristle board which provides a structural element to follow when its being painted.
I’m an Englishman and I knew, FUCKING KNEW, the second I saw that Lion bar that you would say it looked like a turd. I used to pull pranks by throwing them in swimming pools.
Haggis is scottish. Incredibly so. It has nothing to do with ireland. The irish national dish is stew.
Any particular type of stew?
It’s just called irish stew.
Dutch beers are good. I like Grolsch. They have one called Kanon. Its 11.5 procent. And yes does Belgian Trappisten beers are high alcohol too. up to 12 procent. But you cant down one of those. Cause there’s yeast at the bottom of the bottle… Try burping that. Hehehe. But i have to agree with some poeple. Danish beers are good. Tuborg kicks asss. Oh and Bosnian Pan is allso nice!
Dude, watching this as an Irish person, I never thought it would be so entertaining to watch someone eat all of the stuff I would see every day and just consider normal. lol
i was waiting on a pizza while watching this. good god you made me hungry! haha
Is it just me or does Miles bear a slight resemblance to Joel from MST3K?
I see a Rock Band 3 keyboard in the right corner.
Real highlanders drink whisky!
It’s always exciting seing american sweets, but when I went to america, I was hugely disappointed.
It is, however, completely surreal to see an american reviewing european sweets. Not knowing of turkish delight and stuff like that is quite amusing. At least I learnt that boosts, in ireland, are called Moro.
I should say, though, that proper turkish delight is better than that in cadbury chocolate. Cadbury is kind of the better quality standard chocolate. For real good shit, you need hotel chocolat stuff.
Totally non-interesting fact. The makers of Jaffa Cakes had to prove that they were in fact cakes and not biscuits in order to avoid paying a tax which is levied against chocolate biscuits. So they made a giant Jaffa Cake from their recipe to prove it was, in fact, a cake. They also pointed out that cakes go hard when they get stale, and biscuits go soft….Jaffa Cakes go hard and thus avoided the tax.
Sorry to have bored you all, just felt the need to get that little factoid out after I heard it on QI and it’s festered in my brain ever since, waiting for an opportunity to be brought up.
Totally non-interesting fact: ‘Factoids’ are actually things that sounds like facts but aren’t.
But it is a fact look it up. you got the internet
FACT: I am a sex machine.
(look it up)
That’s a rumor nothing more. ;)
No it isn’t. There was actually a legal battle, because biscuits could be taxed higher than cake, McVities had to prove the product matched the legal definition of a cake. T’was on QI my dear boy, Steven Fry said it, must be true!
Also don’t eat chocolate covered Turkish delight it’s fucking nasty. Pick up the actual stuff that’s covered in icing sugar, it is actually really good.
Walkers prawn cocktail crisps are the jizz spawn of Satan, fucking nasty.
I think he was referring to the sex machine fact
We have a lot of that stuff here in Canada too, like the Terry’s orange bar (and the oranges, which come in myriad flavors around Christmastime) and the KitKat Chunky.
Brautwurst, mead and candy – oh you are going to be SO sick. Can’t wait until you get to Vancouver. Try the candied salmon, it rocks ^^
Now we’ll need a mega crossover of Spoony and Brad for tons of X Tries videos.
Ah man… Terrys Chocolate Orange is THE BEST CHOCOLATE
love the hair!
You should try a Big Turk bar it’s a turkish delite bar but not nasty like the cadbury one which i bought a month ago because i thought it was like a big turk which is awesome
I don’t know if you read these Spoony, and I know this is a horribly shameless plug but screw it. My mother runs a small home business where she makes gourmet dog treats, most of them made with carob. While dogs cannot have chocolate, carob is something similar which is completely dog safe. My dog eats everything she’s made and loves them. All the ingredients are human safe as well. If you’re at all interested, or if anyone in the comments are interested, leave a reply and I’ll see what I can do. /shamelessplug
I kinda feel sorry for all of you Americans as from spoony’s video i learned that you guys don’t get some of the awesome sweets like here at the UK. I mean why the hell don’t you guys have jaffa cakes.
Again, they are sold here, they just aren’t common.
Okay, I have to say this:
FUCKIN’ BUBBLES, MAN!!!
I just spent an hour of my life watching other people eat candy and drink beer.
I actually have seen of these products stateside. Here in New England there is a chain of grocery stores called Stop N’ Shop, which I believe are actually owned by a European conglomerate (I could be wrong.) Anyway, the Chunky Kit Kat is featured pretty regularly in this world food area where they feature imports from different regions around the world. For instance I can go in, and get Japanese groceries. Granted, I know not every State (Or regions of States that do) has a medium to large sized chain that deals in imports.
Anyway, I wanted to comment on the Chunky Kit Kat, as I’ve actually tried them, and I find the chocolate they use in the British/Irish Kit Kat is closer to the chocolate you get in the Cadbury Eggs, and Mini Eggs during Easter season. It’s sweeter, and doesn’t have the wax feel of the US version (There IS a US Chunky Kit Kat but it was marketed under a different name, and used the same chocolate as the standard US KK bars.)
I think the reason for this (Upon noticing something on the wrapper) is that Kit Kat is actually a Nestle candy product (The company that makes the Crunch Bar, Quik powder, etc.) But here in the states it is made by Hershey. According to the wrapper on US Kit Kat bars, Nestle apparently licensed the product to Hershey, but Hershey is probably using Hershey chocolate instead of importing the chocolate from Nestle.
I could be wrong, and if so I hope some candy enthusiast would correct me. (Or validate me if I’m right.)
The video is quite informative and the chocolates certainly looked.. interesting!
Being English, it’s really wierd watching you act strangely around sweets and chocolate that I take for granted xD
Nice to see some new video.
Also, I suppose you already know, but never, NEVER let a dog have chocolate if you don’t want to lose the animal. It’s highly addictive to them but their body can’t process it so it is highly poisonous.
Bratwurst boiled in beer and served with sauerkraut. You sure you’re not from Wisconsin? That sir, is a downtown Milwaukee meal. Only you have to use Pabst Blue Ribbon (the only thing that beer is good for). Schlitz was better, but they don’t make that any more.
That coconut cookie looked like a mini snowball. Chocolate cake covered in marshmallow and coconut…yum yum.
And that look on your face while you were considering the prawn cocktail chips…LOLOL. You sir are one entertaining guy, and Miles is pretty amusing too. I hope both of your tummies are feeling okay. And I hope that you gave Oreo a proper doggie treat after being tortured by watching you eat all that chocolate.
Keep up the great work, man. And don’t overwork yourself on U9…you’ll do much better work if you’re rested. We can wait an extra day or two.
I’ve always wanted to try mead, but can’t seem to get my hands on any. Just watching that bottle sit there throughout the video in all its golden allure made me feel like poor Oreo, just wanting to sample what was being eaten. I hope Oreo at least got some dog treats after having to stare at all the food she wasn’t allowed to have (and for good reason!)
And I loved the ending to the video with the note on the long editing. It needed to be said, middle finger and all, heh heh heh. Lucky for me, I’m a patient man.
Yeah, no, Watched the first few minutes and decided to skop watching someone else eat.
Oh well, at least you gave us a quick update. I wasn’t too surprised about the lack of content. The Ultima video is a lot higher quality than most videos, and obviously took more time and effort. Between the writing, editing, and almost certainly the recording of the game, it’s actually quite understandable. Especially since this is probably the video Spoony is working his hardest at overall.
Final Fantasy may have made Spoony “famous”, but Ultima clearly was his most beloved franchise growing up and Ultima 9 is probably the review he always wanted to do.
And a couple of conventions can EASILY wipe out 2 work weeks, and other events probably did not help things either.
I have patience Spoony. Just make Ultima 9′s last video worth it.
After that though, I seriously expect some more content. Give us a reason to drop by daily, even if it is little things like blogs and updates. I don’t need something every day, but give us a reason to CHECK every day instead of every week or month.
you should come to Germany some time
get some real bear, not that thinned down piss you get elsewhere
Barley, Hops and Water. that’s bear!
Oh, man– I have wanted to try mead for years! It sounds like exactly my kind of drink: ridiculously, almost sickeningly sweet. My normal drink of choice is Pepsi, so I’m used to that…
Some day… I WILL have that beverage.
FUCK YOUR APOLOGIES SPOONY! QUIT LOLLYGAGGING AROUND THE GLOBE AND GORGING YOURSELF ON BOOZE AND CANDY! MAKE MORE VIDEOS FOR MY AMUSEMENT YOU JESTER SLAVE ARGHHHHGHGHGHGGHH!
Really though, I almost didn’t watch this because the concept seemed incredibly boring, but then I remembered Spoony’s impromptu rambling is more entertaining than most people with a script–worth it. Even if the “real” videos come out somewhat slowly compared to other webseries, I’d rather get those + tasty vlog filler than see half-baked stuff on a weekly basis.
Also you were right Spoony, 5% is a totally pussy ABV but it’s pretty common for light beers. If you want to try something that isn’t piss-water you should look for 7-15% beers from breweries in/near your state. I don’t know what you can get in Arizona, but Pacific brands like Rogue, Deschutes, and Stone (I think you tried their Arrogant Bastard?) are what made me into a beer drinker. The difference between that kind of beer and Bud/Coors/etc is like the difference between eating at a local burger joint and McDonald’s.
I had Highlander Brew recently actually. It was a Rib and Beer festival in my town. They actually kind of cheat with the name because they are technically Highlanders (South River being in the Almaguin Highlands region of Northern Ontario apparently). So it is a Highlander brew, just not the Highlanders you’re thinking of. And before anyone else thinks to call it yes we Canadians are a bunch of lying bastards and we’re sorry.
On the Prawn Cocktail chips if you’re ever in the Canadian Maritimes you should go hunting for Lobster flavoured chips. I shit you not, Lobster flavoured potato chips.
Firsty, good to see you up and posting again soon,
I was kind of worried you may have gotten sick or something after your trip
which would have been a shame.
But anyway I’m an English person so seeing your reaction to
things I’ve grown up with is really rather funny in an odd way. Although glad
to see you enjoy our chocolate. Well since I live on this side of the pond I
feel I should give a little commentary on what you tried. Also yes I will concede
that Swiss chocolate is some of the best you will get.
I should mention now that Cadbery do to a lot of different chocolates
and basically even bought out a lot of their competition over here and still
run the bars as separate entities. But you see even though it may seem like
some of them are just ‘chocolate bars’, they do in fact make them differently
which can make the world of different to the flavour in some of their chocolate
bars. Also its true that texture does play a big part of it, personally I can’t
Well I saw you were not really into the Curly Wurly, but you see the
actual draw to them is that chewy center. I mean I rather like the taste
too myself but the real draw for parents is that it’s kind of cheap and can
keep a kid happy for a while.
Now I have too just point out, you were making a big thing with the
bubbles and I loved when you bit into that Aero, because I knew you would not
be ready for that. I mean I can see where you might not be used to it, but
Aero’s big draw is the amount flavour they pack into their bars, plus they are
pretty much the king of bubbled chocolate. Whispa and all that basically
came up later and are generally not as good. Also those are the large Aero’s,
you can actually get bars the size of that Lion bar which have like five
Onto the Walkers Crisps, i want to point out that Prawn cocktail is one
of the big debate flavours of Walkers, by that I mean you do get people that
will absolutely love them enough to by the big single flavour bags
and others that hate it. Personally i don’t mind but would prefer salt
Wow… I’m actually learning stuff about the States; I never would have
guessed you did not get Turkish delight over there. The stuff in that bar
though is the most basic of it, which is pretty much just a gel made from
starch and sugar. The actual stuff usually contains nuts like hazel, walnuts or
pistachios. Although the I
think that the gel in the bars is one of the cheapest kinds which is generally
flavoured with rosewater or mastic.
I have tried the good stuff though and I would highly recommend giving it a try
if you fancy something sweet and different. The actually stuff also comes in
cubes without any chocolate and is powered in Icing sugar to prevent it from
yeah that’s probably not a proper Scottish brew, I mean it may come from some
weedy clan’s recipe that was shipped out to Canada a few hungered years ago. But
coming from a big Scottish clan I can say that the ‘dwarf’ analogy you made is
pretty true when it comes to good quality drink in Scotland. Whiskies and meads
are the kind of thing we like, something thats going to warm your blood after a
cold day. Ohh and a Hot toddys are generally drank before bed or to fight of
the cold or a flu. It’s usually made though with whisky, boiling water or
warm milk, and sugar or honey and of course served still hot.
Yeah I checked the Highlander brew web site (mainly because I enjoyed it when I had it and want to see where I can buy more), and the brewery opened in 2009 and advertise their beer as a “traditional scottish ale.” What the hell that entails I haven’t the foggiest. Tastes good though, beats any of the American crap served in our bars, lowsy no good traitors, or even most other Canadian beer I can get a hold of.
And here I was under the illusion that we had somehow moved beyond the colonial era mindset.
This is beer we’re talking about it’s important.
Indeed. Budweiser is now owned by a German company. Not that they made good beer anyway. I like to try out different craft beers. Dogfish Head makes some good ones. Craft beers are generally more expensive, but it’s well worth the price.
But Beware, though some beers look “imported” or “craft” they may be labels that belong to either Bud, or Coors/Miller.
Support the little guys, so it’s harder for them to be bought or out done by the big 2. Coors and Miller are apparently one now. Not that they made good beer anyway. Vote with thine wallets!!!
True, but at least let us people who like the small breweries form a resistance before you throw us all under a bus.
Scottish ale is dark and thick and very sweet, depending on what Schilling(grade) they use. 60 schilling is light bodied, 70 is medium, 80 is known as export and that’s the kind that is usually known to us outside of the UK.
This pointless lesson in beer history is brought to you by your local beer snob/home-brewer with way too much time on his hands.
damn nigga, you go to cookie college?
Oh come on NOONE ELSE Recognizes the attempt at the half-baked quote? Tragic.
Ballin’ Borderlands shirt B)
-5% is average for a “normal” European beer, everything I drink (German beers mainly are 5)
-Haha its so weird seeing some marvelling over aero’s and jaffa cakes, they are just so normal here (although we do the same when we see Hershey or some american brand)
-Never seen a Moro in England, must be an Irish bar. All the bars you are trying are the same thing really – Its weird you have NO chocolate orange? Do you guys have Mint Chocolate?
-Hahaha the Pink packet, the one everyone leaves until the end if you buy a multipack!
-FUCK YES LION BAR – THATS THE NUMBER ONE SHIT IF YOU HAVE BALLS!
-Turkish Delight? You can get that anywhere in Europe – its great man can’t believe you didn’t like it.
-When they say “good with Cheese” they didn’t mean American Kraft cheese slices, that stuff is to cheese as a McNugget is to Chicken
-You can get small Aeros, they are just huge “family bars”
To be honest you had a bad selection,You can’t generalise that all sweets in europe are the same because most of the stuff you got was really similar, but as you said you got it in a random corner shop I understand why its this stuff.
-They have that kind of Beer, you are drinking some “gimmick” beer not a real one.
Miles is THE most awkward person ever.
so spoony was oreo…in your spot ? YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *banned for life*
One hour and eighteen minutes? *pours another drink* bring it Spoonyone…bring it!
Spoony, you are one of my favorite reviewers ever, EVER. But if you complain one more time about calories I will be forced to have you turn in your MAN card. From one man to another, this is your only warning. Keep up the good work.
jesus fucking christ, shoot your annoying retrded dog already
Fucks sake man, just because you have a internet connection dosent give you Carte Blanche too act like a self entitled cretin.
not that I agree or approve, but it does give him every right to do so.
Miles took one for the team.
But yeah, enjoyable and always good to see an update and Miles in a video.
YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF TURKISH DELIGHT???? wow i feel for you guys… XD in the lion the witch and the wardrobe that stuff is the bane of kings man. although in all honesty i would NEVER cover it in choclate, that sounds as nasty as your reaction showed.
Ha Spoony reviews Highlander beer WHILE rocking an Adrian Paul -esque ponytail.Karma i’s tells ya.
I seen lion bars here in the states. Walgreens sells em
You should try European bread, butter and cheese. Bread in the states is fucking horrible.
I loved Lion-bars as a kid! :D
I feel dumb, sitting here watching Spoony and Miles eat brats while I am nursing a bowl of Coco Krispies. A little jealous too.
Damn, Oreo is so cute!
She’s a Jack Russel, right?
Well in Sweden beer strong beer is beer over 3.5%, everything under that can be found in a normal grocery store. In Sweden you aren’t allowed to sell alcohol in normal stores, they can be found in a store called Systembolaget wich is owned by the government. Wine is around 15-20% and liquors, like vodka, are up to 40%, higher per cent isnt allowed in Sweden, but in Estonia you can find rum at 90%, and it’s really fucking horrible!
I would avoid trying the Yorkie bar if you have loose upper molars or incisors. The chocolate is great but tough going on your teeth.
This is probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. I was
always aware English chocolate was better than American, but ever since my
Dutch roommate shared her gift boxes with me from her mum, I now think English
chocolate sucks XD
My friends and I adore listening to this divide in culture. We always
thought “Candy” just meant sweets, like any hard sugar product,
anything that didn’t have chocolate in it. But to see the word means all products
in general. I think that’s bloody brilliant.
Also, you probably think I’m weird, but we could make a drinking game of
the number of times you use the word cookie. Cookie is only used one time, for
a biscuit with chocolate chips in it, otherwise its always called a biscuit. So
whenever it’s applied to all these different things, we cracked up. Especially
like with the whole Kitkat bar. If you guys actually use biscuit in your
kitkats, I apologize for sounding rude, but we looked at each other wondering
why you said that, when it’s clearly a wafer. That’s the reason why they’re so
soft. (Or if a wafer also comes under the cookie category, again I apologize
for sounding rude).
To this day I don’t think anyone knows if they like Prawn Cocktail crisps
or not. They just exist. Walkers has had a lot of gag crisps that come in and
out all the time, from barbecue, to ketchup to marmalade, breakfast fry-up and
Christmas dinner….yeah we’re kinda f*cked up aren’t we? I think it’s just our
equivalent of “every flavour jelly beans” XD
I never realised we had so many orange products? When I was a kid, all I
remember was mint. Mint chocolate was EVERYWHERE back then, now it just seems like
orange has slowly pushing its way in and taking over the minds of Brits. All
hail the orange! *salute*
Number one rule of bubbly chocolate: Do not chew it!!! Let it melt on
your tongue, that’s where the REAL bubbles come from.
And no one likes Turkish
delight. We just keep it on the shelf ‘cause it’s one of the original flavours.
You can’t just throw it away.
I don’t like Curly
whirly either :P Although I’ve always wanted to try taffy. What is taffy exactly?
PS. If you ever
come back to the UK. Galaxy chocolate! If you have it, brilliant! If not, Cadbury
is everywhere yes, but it’s too sweet for me. But Galaxy is epic! it’s kinda
like the everyman’s upper class chocolate. Try it!
I love it how you all act like characters in a sitcom, especially with Oreo. I just smile for some reason when I watch the interaction of all you three. You could never direct anything this well. Like nonchalantly offering beer to the dog in the background while Spoony explains the virtues of the Highlander beer. It’s amazing to me how this all happens naturally :D
i approve of dat shirt
“the mead hall swells with with songs of glory! massive tankards filled to the brim with MEAD! Tandem the Spoony takes small sips from his tankard, scowling and swearing to himself(Fuck that’s sweat) in a corner of the longtable… “
I’m surprised, so in the States you don’t have Lion cake…
I’ll think about sending a few more chocolate from Italy.
Man, I remembering have bubbly chocolate in Israel. The bubbles really do make it taste stronger, and it melts faster in your mouth.
But if your ever in Israel (hopefully when it’s safe) try their Jaffa orange juice. It’s ridiculously good OJ.
ye if you go to scotland spoony there’s a fizzy drink called irn bru ?? its orange but it doesnt taste of orange so you will be fine on that but it is quite big in scotland and since im from scotland i have it all the time so ye if your ever over here again try some cause im pretty sure you dont get it over in the states but i could be wrong
The rose-water flavoured Turkish Delight, as pictured in the wikipedia article on it, is nice. I never rated the chocolate-bound monstrosities inflicted on us in the form of Fry’s Turkish Delight and its imitators.
5% ABV (alcohol by volume) is typical for a premium lager / cider; US lagers tend to be a little weaker, as are cheaper beers, below 4% or so the lack of alcohol significantly impacts flavour. Speciality lagers (Grand Crus, etc) and richer ales often hit the 7%abv mark. “Gimmick” ales and the like can sometimes reach the 13% abv mark, but start tasting rough; then they’re reaching same alcohol content as wine.
As for “Orange chocolate” – other than Jaffa cakes and Terry’s Chocolate orange, the recent fad is pretty much just imitators trying to challenge the brand leaders.
Oh, and “Twirls” are just “Flakes” with an outer coatings so they don’t shed as much.
omg i see kingdom hearts 3d on your table. i cant believe it, you’re the last person i thought would ever get that game. i know it shouldnt but it makes me really happy you did get it. what did you think of it if youve played it yet (i know your busy), im like in love with the game. thats all.
I agree that turkish delight chocolate is rancid. Turkish delight on it’s own though is great. It’s just the two things don’t mix at all.
You mean the Fry’s Turkish Delight bars?
The Cadbury Turkish delight reminds me of Fry’s Turkish Delight, only with blander chocolate. Also I would have loved to see what he and Miles would have thought of MacCowan’s Highland Toffee bars. They thought a Curlywurly was too tough? Highland toffee would have ripped out their teeth :P
Spoony, having your hair tied back suits you. Might just be because I thought you looked better when you had short hair, haha
He looks way better with it long
ah Spoony if you want good American beer you have to drink the craft brews. the macro lagers, (budweiser, coars, etc) Samuel Adams is pretty tasty, since you live closer to California try to get some Sierra Nevada ii recommend the Pale Ale or the Kellerweis Heffeweisen, and if you like something a little stronger then try the porter. when you feel a little more adventurous try the stout.
Okay, I’m writing down comments as I watch and since this is a long video this is gonna be a long comment… sorry.
… I totally saw Noah as Miles at first. With his hair on a ponytail, making it look short… Not saying they look that much like each other but there is a lot of family resemblance there so the hairstyle does a lot.
Ooh, the cliffs of Moher, I’ve been there. :D They’re awesome. It was kinda rainy when we went too.
I keep hearing about American chocolate. I wonder if I should try it some time, just to check how bad it is. Though I have an idea already because I’ve had bad chocolate before, the way too sweet and barely chocolaty kind.
Heh, and now you’re dissing American beer too. xD Not that I’m complaining, just amused. And no, I haven’t had any American beer either so I wouldn’t know. Haven’t really eaten much in the way of American food in general, really. Though from what I’ve heard from others and comparing to my usual taste, I think there is a lot that I wouldn’t like. But hey, I can’t stand British food either. Or Irish food. (That was pretty much the only negative thing about my trip to Ireland: everything else was ~*~awesome~*~) Call me a snob if you like, I AM kind of a snob. x) Not as bad as the rest of my family, at least.
The real reason why I’m wary of American food, though, is more about all the shit I’ve heard about the safety regulations which are almost non-existant on European standards. I just don’t think my pampered sensitive stomach could take it (particularly with the foreign bacteria that I’m not used to and all). Plus… you know, food poisoning rates in the US are a LOT higher than in Europe. I couldn’t find good sources for the numbers but it seems like it’s around 15% cases per population in the US versus 1% in EU. No idea about non-EU countries but they’re probably worse.
Baww, I’m so worried Oreo will eat some chocolate off the floor…
Mom and dad once brought us some orange and pink chocolate from Switzerland. It was seriously orange and pink. The orange one was orange flavour (no surprise) and the pink one… I can’t remember, it was some berry, I think. Maybe strawberry. The orange one was actually pretty good… and I don’t usually like chocolate mixed with fruits or berries. But then again it wasn’t really the same thing. It was just sort of bizarre, though, eating orange chocolate. It tasted like white chocolate and orange.
I love how Oreo always follows Noah to the camera and then goes back to steal his place. xD
Mead can be very weak too, it’s not always so strong. At least over here in Finland we usually have very weak mead. I used to drink it as a little kid (with our parents’ permission too), it was that weak.
Wtf? Why would you make a Scottish beer in Canada and then ship it to Ireland? Seriously, isn’t that… expensive? Liquids are heavy, too! And it’s not like Canada is a third world country where work is cheap either.
Now if only Spoony could do an angry V-log against the crappy total recall remake. Because Brad Jones didn’t thrash it big enough.
you have to try pie and mash if you ever go to london
watching Spoony react here mad me LOL!
does your bro charge you in vlog appearances to stay there for free or something???
While I am not sure about all of the U.S. up here in Connecticut there is a chain of stores called Aldi that carry jaffa cakes.
“You question why it’s in your mouth.”
Wow Spoony, I didn’t realise the dearth of super delicious chocolate you guys didn’t get in the US. No Jaffa Cakes? How do you survive!? I am now glad you have been introduced to our wonderful Brittish Chocs! Also if you liked those you would love a Wispa (if you didn’t get a chance to try one).
Also, poor Oreo :D dog chocolate away!
Yeah, our chocolate in the states is largely corn syrup and shit.
Barring some local shoppes that make fudge and sauces, most packaged candy is of the very lowest quality chocolate.
Fucking MEXICO has better candy than we do (I’ve jumped the border plenty).
Actually you can get jaffa cakes in the USA, they just aren’t very common.
orange chocolate is a love here yes, but mint chocolate is a bigger thing.
You should have gotten a mint Aero. I would suggest mint kit-kats but they are a limited edition thing (best chocolate ever though)
Look out for Worcestershire sauce crisps next time in the UK!
No orange flavoured chocolate in the States? Really? That amazes me, it’s my favourtie combination other than mint chocolate. Oh my, Terry’s chocolate orange, the best orange chocolate in existence! I want one now! I’m going to have to nip to the shops, damn you Spoony!
In all honesty I really can’t stand any of the Hersheys that my friends have brought me if they’ve ever been on holiday so I’m happy that you’ve been introduced to the lovely Brit range. Have you ever tried real Belgian chocolates? They would blow you away, seriously. Delicious. In fact at one point the Belgians actually wanted Britain to change our legislation and stop calling our chocolate ‘chocolate’ because they claimed it didn’t have a high enough cocoa and, I think, cream/butter content. So you can imagine what THEIR chocolate is like. Mmmmmm.
Also if you liked that beer you should try some of the ales from the Wytchwood Brewery, from somewhere down in England, I’m sure you could find them somewhere online perhaps? The Hobgoblin ale is particularly nice :)
Anyway, loved the review! Oreo is a cutie as usual. You should get her some dog chocolates to make up for not getting any tasty British treats!
The Cadbury Wunderbar is great too. Sold only in two countries, Germany and Canada. I guess you have peanutbutter chocolate bars over there.
Oh yeah, I should have waited to review at the end. Yeah, just to say I agree with you, milk covered turkish delight is disgusting, but turkish delights, which is a Turkish sweet we normally get in Britain at Christmas, is delicious on its own. I hate the Cadbury’s turkish delight. Also you do get individual aero mint and orange sweets, they’re called bubbles (fucking bubbles!) so they’d probably be better :)
Oh yeah and a hot toddy is a Scottish or Irish drink which is made of hot water, honey and whiskey mixed together (or that’s how my dad makes them). It’s wonderful for curing colds and tastes good too, especially in winter when it’s freezing!
Thanks again for suffering through the sweet feast for our entertainment!
I assume that the “Moro” Bar is the Irish name for a Boost Bar.
The Terry’s Chocolate Orange bar comes from the Chocolate Orange they
started with. It’s a orange-shaped piece of orange flavour chocolate.
Mint Aero is, and always will be, best Aero. Aero > Wispa. They do sell Aero in small bars too.
Turkish Delight is usually Rosewater-flavoured in most places…and Cadbury didn’t do well with their attempt.
Twirl = Cadbury Flake in a bar
And to those who have stated so, yes Worcestershire Sauce flavoured crisps are the best.
I agree and corroborate with everything here. I’m not usually a crisp guy, but Worcestershire sauce flavoured ones are hard to turn down, and spell.
Hey Spoony, just some constructive feedback, this video ran on for really long time. While normally for like a movie vlog it isn’t a big deal because there’s constantly new concepts and conversation springing up, this ends up dragging a bit. Maybe if you do this again separate the candy and alcohol, or however those lines will be drawn? It would make each video less of a challenge to watch and allows you to update and entertain us with smaller bits of content between episodes, making the wait for the next FF or Ultmia less exasperating.
Sorry for the block of text but thanks anyways for the content.
I’m really depressed now.
Mead is the nectar of the gods
I’d be a lot warmer and a lot happier with a belly full of mead.
I fucking love mead!
We have Kit Kat Chunky up here in Canada, so I’m a bit surprised there isn’t any in the US.
Well, we have Kit Kat, and Chunky, but not Kit Kat Chunky.
Incidentally, plain Chunky is really damn good. One of the only candy bars I’ll even look at.
5% for a beer is actually not that weak for a beer. The strongest I’ve seen is around 7%, at least, the strongest that tastes GOOD! I’ve drank a beer called Beelzebuth that was 14% and it was total shit tbh. Beer here in Portugal is around 6% if I recall correctly, don’t have beer in hand right now XD
5% is kind of a benchmark area for most. I think around 7~8 is when a pint has some oomph behind it. I drink Stone beers, which can go up to 10~11%.
Ive had a beer called “beast” and it was about 16.5%. Hard stuff to drink down.
My friends thought it tasted like malt liquor with Everclear in it :P
after you breech the 13% mark on beer it REALLY gets hard to drink
OMG you don’t have LION in the states???? =O I tohught you did! I love those =P they’re awesome!
Turkish delights are DELICIOUS! Of course, I’ve never had those cadbury things. It’s probably nowhere NEAR what a real Turkish delight is =)
Turkish delight can be quite nice, but rose is rather the acquired taste. Unfortunately its innocuous color means it’s often the first one people try.
You’re right there. If you really like Turkish delight but haven’t had Cadbury’s stuff, I’d recommend staying away from it. It tastes oddly different. It’s like the American Cheese of Turkish delight.
YES! American beer really IS piss water! I feel a surge of happiness every time someone agrees with me.
That’s an insult to piss water.
Depends on the american beer! if you talking about what appears on the superbowl commercials, Yea. that stuff sucks……Completely devoid of flavor, character, and decency. however American micro-brews are some of the best in the world.
Turkish Delight is SUPPOSED to be a sweet rose flavoured jelly type candy. The funny thing is the Cadbury Turkish Delight is so bad that here in Australia the official Cadbury Delight is actually made by a completely different company that Cadbury owns.
Bratwurst is pink in the middle. My family is part German, I’ve been eating them for years. It’s one of those tubed meats with a skin wrapped around the squishy part.
Actually there is a brand of specialty cookie here in the states which is almost identical to Jaffa Cakes called Pim’s, I think the the only real difference is the the orange filling is a bit stronger and there is a few less per package. I usually find them in either the cookie or specialty cookie aisle of most grocery stores
I know I’m jumping ahead here, but I can’t wait for Spoony to review the Highlander reboot.
I like the hard bitter dark chocolates. Waxy sweet american milk chocolate doesn’t do a thing for me.
Jaffa Cakes always make me think of Yogscast.
Silly Oreo, chocolate can f**ing kill you.
In Singapore where I live, there’s almost no originality in the snacks department, and what Asian candy we have tastes like crap. Most of the snacks sold are from the West (European candy is expensive here in South-East Asia).
Here’s what I’ve gotten from watching this:
1) American Alcoholic beverages: Not as good as UK ones
2) American chocolate and candy snacks: Not as good as European ones
3) American Cheese: Not good
And from the Wendy’s Training videos, I get the impression that American fast food isn’t all that great (not that I can say different about the fast food joints here in S’pore)
In the cuisine department, where does the US excel? Do they have good rice or meat dishes over in the States?
Spoony should do that Scottish accent more often.
ALL foods taste better dunked in mead. Potato chips, lamb chops, rat poison-laced loaves of bread…
The grass is always greener on the other side.
You get what you pay for. The cheap, mass-produced food is inferior, but the good stuff is readily available.
Why doesn’t Miles talk more? He seems so disinterested.
the man is eating
Wonder if that nasty carmel one (I forget the name) was like a Sugar Daddy. I can’t stand those or Milk Duds with that damn carmel that just sticks to your teeth. Also, a little constructive criticism, if you do another “Spoony Tries”, try to make it a little shorter, maybe under a half hour.
Kraft Foods actually produces a biscuit similar to Jaffa Cakes in the United States under the name “PiMs”. I buy them all the time.
Jaffa Cakes are not true biscuits.
Have to admit one of my favorite things about going to new countries is trying all the new weird and wonderful snacks that I’ve never seen, tried or imagined before :)
there’s totally orange flavored chocolate in the States, and they’re actually shaped like an orange and break apart into orange slices.
Bit of a tidbit of info, but much of Canada’s original citizens were from Scottish birth. In fact, one of our provinces (Nova Scotia) means “New Scottland”. =p
And, on the subject, you can actually get Aero (regular and mint variety… orange is new for us too), Crunchie, Kit Kat Chunky and Bounty bars in Canada. Also, Terry’s Chocolate Orange can be found in Canada around Christmas. They’re actually shaped like oranges (even being segmented into slices) and the idea is to smash them on a hard surface, so the segments are broken apart when you open the wrapper.
Also, with Walker’s chips, you missed out on their Roast Chicken variety… which is absolutely great.
Also, that “insulation”-looking stuff is likely English Toffee… not a fan myself =p
Finally, Dairymilk does do some good chocolate… but yeah… that stuff is most definitely Turkish Delight (if you get Big Turk in the states, you have the same thing). I really don’t like it either to be honest.
‘it’s good but I wouldn’t have more than a square at a time’ that’s actually a big thing with a bunch of europian chocolate treats, that they should last a long time instead of just something you chew down. Heck, the ‘proper’ way to eat Aero is to let it melt in your mouth, though I’m way too impatient for that.
Hot Mead is something you should try…. absolutely worth ist, when it´s cold outside.
Pear Cider is also worth a shot ;)
I highly recommend anything made by Joker. their ciders are amazing
As an English man, this is like seeing aliens eat our food…
My thoughts exactly. It was amazing.
WTF. I just watched two guys eat European yummies for 1.5hours… Nice.. :) You should do one where you eat American goodies to show us European fans what’s your candies are like
Are you mad?! This American candy’s like chemical waste XD !
Because you’re obviously from America with that amazing English grammar.
You are aren’t you? You’re just a fucking retard.
Nope, Germany – even with weird dialects in case you can actually read German. Dat würd mich aba wunnern, Junge :P
And why so serious? Did a Butterfinger kill your cat or something :D ?
You really want an hour and a half of Spoony and Miles eating Hersheys?
Well I liked this one, so… :)
I don´t think that Miles heart can handle a 2. round…
I’ll admit that half of me really wanted to see him try the crunchie bar, because that’s one of my favourite chocolate bars in the UK.
Éphémère is from Quebec, isn’t it? Didn’t know they got that in Ireland!
So wait, both beer you brought back from Ireland are actually Canadian?
Damn you Spoony you made me go and buy a candy bar, and I’m even less of a sweet tooth than you. PS I bought a Bounty
“Come on, focus you bitch” ROFL!
Haggis is a Scottish thing Spoony not an Irish thing.
Still I’m surprised you couldn’t find any, I can get it here in England &
it’s pretty good stuff.
You can thank the Food Police for making it hard to find. I think they have prohibited a couple of the ingredients. After all it requires lung tissue to make it right.
Why is t his one of the videos that won’t let you skip ahead? I had a flash crash and now I have to sit through an hour again just to get back to the chocolate mint thing after Spoony’s already gone giggly drunk? Why do some videos let you skip and not others?
Did you know that err, chocolate, is the symbol, of love
Someone needs to take the toy bouncing back at 0:58 and edit in a flash bang from SWAT 4.
2oz milk = 1/4 cup 4oz milk = half a cup. I think you meant liters. Andee’s Candies have that exact same color mint. I Buy them and eat them by the box.
Game covers the Brautwurst. Nose = what you smell. So even a Fun Size candy bar might be too big for Aero?
I wasn’t saying that Ultima’s next installment was taking too long to do. I was saying it was surprising that there was nothing else in the time span.
Even the United States have highlands. Its a Scottish Recipe made in Canada.
In the future Sugar and Alcohol at the same time is always a gut bomb.
At first I was excited. But now it’s like.. wow. I’m sitting here, on my computer, watching a guy eat bratwurst. Spoony. Dinner time. NOW ON PAY PERVIEW! I need to get a life… that or spoony is just getting lazier and this is a pathetic excuse for an upload. They’re literally sitting there, eating dinner. This is his upload. Wow. And people got pissed when NC did “barts nightmare”. At least that was a half-assed attempt. Spoony has fallen from grace. What next? Videos of him doing laundry? Is this going to turn into some blogspot site that no one cares about? A personal web diary?
And I love spoony. Why else do you think i’m so disappointed with this? Just a pre-emptive defense against the few remaining fan boys.
“I love Spoony.” “Spoony has fallen from grace.” Sure doesn’t seem like love. Especially as I fund this very much entertaining. I live in England, it was like watching an alien eat earth food.
If spooney made doing his laundry funny Id watch :P
I can totally relate to what you’re saying. But I do think you’re taking it a little too personal. Internet personalities come and go. They lose interest. Sometimes real life just doesn’t allow them to be the people we were first introduced to. Shit happens ya know.
I’ve seen this happen time and time again. To be honest I’m a bit confused when people have a hard time coming to terms with this fact. Yeah it’s disappointing, but you can’t let it bother you that much man. The absolute best thing you can do is take spoony off of your daily bookmark check. A monthly check is more adequate for this site now. You’ll be far less disappointed.
It’s like Rocky 3 :)
He’s lost the eye of the tiger. He’s not hungry.
Maybe he’ll come back and kick Mr. T’s ass. But more than likely he won’t unfortunately.
Come to terms with that and you’ll be able to appreciate ole Spoony again I think. From one non-fanboy to another.
I kinda enjoy the absurdity of this. Two grown men eating cookies and kinda just sitting there and talking about the cookies. I like it. :)
Spoony, I was on pins and needles most of the time while watching this, especially when you KNOW what happens to dogs when they eat chocolate; you really should’ve given Oreo something to eat, in order to distract her from all the stuff you and your brother were eating…
Otherwise, fun video! I’ve had Aero chocolate, too, and it’s probably my favorite European chocolate bar (out of anything I’ve had to date; although, Belgian chocolate is really good stuff, too).
Also, that Quickening painting in the background is awesome, I was wondering the entire time what it was; it just looks like a really awesome blue iridescent flame…
Wait… I just remembered… Swiss chocolate… Toblerone? DO YOU HAVE TOBLERONE!? PLEASE, TELL ME THERE’S NOT SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD THAT DOESN’T HAVE TOBLERONE!
We have Toblerone in the US.
It’s actually rather common in my local markets.
Would I be right in saying it’s the cheapest form of Swiss chocolate you can get?
Outside of novelty markets, yes.
There is a German restaurant in my area that sells a variety of imported Swiss Chocolate, including another brand of what looks like Toblerone.
Beer critiquing is not off-limits because you’re not accustomed to drinking them, and I can see why certain people like some beers and not others. However, trying a wide variety of beer is my hobby, so at the same time, I like many kinds of beer, and keep experimenting with beers I don’t like to see if one breaks the mold for me. Even I cannot understand how I can like Porters and Stouts, but not Dry Irish Stouts and Scotch Ales.
Ultimately, the fun part of my hobby is trying to figure out what someone ELSE might like. And a picky drinker isn’t a bad thing, nor is having a “dumb” palate. I just talked about this the other day, the difficulty of drinking things like spirits and picking out all the notes, and understanding what “notes” were supposed to be there in the first place. Like how certain whiskeys tout having “notes of oak, cherry, honey, etc” but then most people wind up chasing it with soda or shooting it without a second thought to the taste. Beer isn’t much easier to be honest, and I’m having trouble drinking certain styles now because the flavor is kind of blurring (especially in the hoppy pale ale department). But I digress, I’m not a beer expert.
It sounds like the “cherry” beer from the microbrewery might have been a wheat beer. And in that vein, you should look around to see if there’s a wheat you might like. In simpler ones, Fransizkaner is a good one if you can find it; flavored-wise, its not my forte, but Orange Wheat from Hangar 21 might also work for you. Just if you’re curious.
I watched the WHOLE thing. And I thought it was great! You were entertaining! I hope you continue the series (read: punishing yourself) with exotic (read: gas station) candies from all over the world. Can we send you some?
Good lord Spoony! Don’t let your doctor see this, he’ll chew your head off.
I’m kinda worried about ya.
I’m too a Science Computer Bachelor, without the all that love with my career.
First I saw you getting out of TGWTG. I don’t know the history about that, but unfortunately it’s a media wasted. That’s how I’ve managed to know you and become a instant fan.
And now, from like two months, your two posts was an unedited and stoned videos, way too long, about Batman (okay about that), and alcohol.
I’m not here trying to define what you should put in your website. It’s your website, we all know that, and that’s the most awesome thing about it.
But you have to acknowledge that you’ve gathered a really great fanbase, and we are eager to see some Spoony reviews like the ones you did with Tekken, DOA, and Ultima.
If you’re not feeling really enthused about the blogging thing, please give me a shout. I’m posting this with my Facebook account, and I had some problems to attend in the past that involved some of the stuff that I’m seeing in your videos. Like you house, your interests, and your lack of motivation of keeping the work that you so greatly done in the past years.
From a concerned human being to another, your biggest Brazilian fan, Ivan.
are you serious Spoony? You must be the most ignorant guy I’ve ever seen in regards to alcohol. All classic beers Heineken Amstel Bud Budweiser have 4.7-5% so 5 % is quite normal and not touristy.
you must have missed the part where he said he hardly ever drinks.
except when he reviews films so bad that they force him to drink to kill the pain.
Don’t defend Spoony’s lameness, I’ve known a typical beer has about 5% of alcohol since I was 13 or 14.
wtf is up with Miles did he turn into a zombie before the shoot?
The bubble and orange stuff seems very british to me. Anyways i’d say if you want high quality chocolate then candy bars are the wrong place to look.
I’ve been dying to try Jaffa Cakes. Been listening to Simon from the Yogscast preach about them for a year now.
Jaffa cakes are delicious! Get some and enjoy.
Unless I’m very much mistaken (the most likely scenario), Highlander Brew is made in Ontario.
If you want something to drink for the taste, get an Arizona iced tea or something. Alcohol is for getting drunk.
Spoony’s next video should be him and Miles trying different kinds of herb. You know what I mean.
* Cadbury is not supposed to be good; they produce the cheapest, low-quality chocolate candies in Europe. Try anything else and you will be suprised.
* 5% alcohol is the regular vol of alcohol in a properly brewed beer.
On second thought, forget about the herb. That would be the most boring video in the entire universe.
Almost half if not more of your viewers are European so this is nothing new for us. :) And the tap/mineral water bit from your last trip was really funny. I for one did not know that in US you don’t have mineral water.
I love Curly Wurly’s :(
Not all American beers are crap. You should swing by Vermont some time. We have the more microbreweries per capita than any other state in the U.S., and most of them are damn good. A couple have been sold off to New York companies (like Magic Hat), but we still have brands like Long Trail and Wolvers. We also have really good cider, wine, whiskey, and vodka brewers.
It took you TWENTY minutes to think of the Stargate joke for Jaffa cakes? I’m disappointed in you Noah.
Spoony, you missed out upon some awesome stuff by the looks of it. You need to try:
Iron Bru (the soft drink)
Holy shit, spoony, what the fuck are you doing? Candy and booze doesn’t mix well at all.
Little note, Ephemere is a Canadian beer made by Unibroue located in Quebec. It’s probably one of my fav microbreweries, and favorite overall beers.
I’m from Austria and never had a curly wurly before a few weeks ago. My reaction was the same. It immediately glued up all teeth and was really hard to brush out. I won’t eat another bite.
There are many different kinds of turkish delight. Some of them I like *very* *very* much, some of them I can’t stand.
I think the “rosewater” flavored one tastes like soap.
Breakfast of champions right here.
Oh man that brings me back, and now I realize it was the turdiest of all
but Bounty (or Mounds) was always my favorite
I am British and your thoughts on our common chocolate bars amaze me, sir. Especially on Twirls XD I don’t like Curly Wurlys or Turkish Delight either, but how do you guys not have orange chocolate? Terry’s chocolate oranges are amazing.
… I have far too much knowledge and understanding of chocolate.
Meh alcohol in murrica is like 3% and here mostly 5-6% (b3c4use alc0h0l d0ne b4d for y0u).
0:24:30ish – “focus you bi*ch” – HEY I was distracted :) no need to get rude
Shit, dudes. I could have sent you a butt fuck load of stuff like that. 5% beer is pretty average for a beer. Maed is slightly stronger because it’s more like a wine made from honey. And that laughy taffy thing you were thinking off was probably caramac.
Mmmmm Jaffa Cakes *drool*
Ephemere is brewed in Montreal, QC, Canada by Unibroue do they have an Irish location as well of is it something different. The bottle looks the same (gold covering on the top, oval label with the name and a fairy above a basket of the fruit they use – some have black currants and apples) seeing as how I just happened to open a bottle when I sat down to watch this… spooky. It is a beer (as it is hops and barley) but they put in the fruit flavours.
Wait, there’s a Guitar Pick on the table. Which of them plays guitar?
That;s one thing that always strikes me as odd about the States; how limited the food selection is, particularly when it comes to candies/sweets/chocolate. If we’re ever visiting somebody we know in the US they always ask for English chocolate. But seriously, you’ve never heard of turkish delight? Flavoured chocolate is a rarity? Truly the US is deprived.
I’m watching this while eating a white chocolate Kit Kat Chunky bar, never knew these aren’t available in the US, I thought you yanks liked your chocolate bars bigger, weird.
I felt bloated just watching you guys try all of this stuff…
Dunno if this has been mentioned yet Spoony, but if there is a Cost Plus World Market in Arizona, you can find a majority (if not all) of the food that was tried.
Oh god, european candy and alcohole. Now we’re talking!
We have Jaffa Cakes here in germany too, though they’re mostly known as Soft Cakes here. Same formula though, soft cake, orange marmelade and chocolate.
KitKat Chunky is the fucking best chocolate bar in the goddamn world. Period. I’ll debate anyone to death about that.
About american chocolate sucking in comparison, I dunno, I never had american chocolate before. I wouldnt know what american candy makers do different, that could make them taste so much worse. I mean, you can’t do much wrong about chocolate…its mostly milk, cocoa (or cocoa butter mostly) and sugar.
If you liked the irish beer, I think you should try german beer too. If you do, don’t start with Pils though. Its the most drunk beer in germany probably, but it has a very bitter taste compared to other sorts, like Hefeweizen for example. Since you’re a beginner, you should try a Hefeweizen like Paulaner.
The deal with Bubbly chocolate is mostly the different texture, the taste doesn’t changes a lot.
And oh god, I knew what joke would come once he pulls out the Lion bar…
5% by volume is average for beers in Britain/Ireland.
Yeah, Nestle has been ripping us off on chocolate for years; Aero is pretty cheap and just FULL of bubbles so it’s about half the weight of other chocolates of equivalent size.
Jaffa cakes are freakin’ legendary, as demonstrated by the yogscast.
I took advice from a British Comedian (Bill Bailey) and melted 4 chunky Kitkats together, then I could pretend I was 3 years old again :)
Moro must just be an Irish name, its called ‘Boost’ in London
Cadbury’s has gone kinda downhill since last year, when they were bought by Kraft.
Ah, if only they went to a supermarket; Terry’s Chocolate Orange normally comes shaped like an orange, about the same size as a Navel or Jaffa Orange and you have to smack it against something to break it into segments, plus the chocolate is amazing.
I’m not a big fan of Prawn Cocktail crisps (chips), they’re just pretty sweet and a little tangy and the flavour outstays its welcome.
Lion bars kick all varieties of arse, it is a lot like a twix bar
Yeah 5 percent is average for beer
Weird that you don’t have bubble chocolate in the states (at least not as prominent). That stuff’s delicious!
Oreo never needs to be introduced, it is always assumed she is there. She is everywhere. I think she is gnawing on my roof right now.
prawn cocktail is a mix of tomato ketchup and mayonnaise, just fyi
The Ephemera Is actually from Quebec, in Canada. Its made by Unibroue (What used to be a independant brewer that has been bought by Sapporo). In addition to the apple one that Spoony is trying here, they made a blackcurrent flavored one that is quite nice too! But If I had one suggestion for the Unibroue Beers, it would be the Maudite (Damned). A strong (8%) red ale that not only kicks you in the head, but does it with a nice spicy taste that will only makes you want more of the stuff!
I don’t know if someone mentioned this before, but with Aero, if you saw the other versions, as there are more. There’s a regular chocolate, and then one of my favourites, up in Canada, is the Mint Aero.
I can’t believe you overlooked the Wispa! It’s the best one!! The bubbles are much smaller and it makes it more delicious. It’s been around a long time. It’s like the Rolls Royce of chocolate bars.
Also you fucked up by not getting the Mint Aero. The orange one isn’t very popular. You missed out on maltesers too. I don’t think you get them in the US and they are popular here. You should have got a Topic and Dime/D’aim bar too.
Moro is called Boost in the UK (I think – it looks and sounds like one)
Everyone reacts like that when eating a Curly Whirly. Trying to break one of those into two even pieces… impossible.
I love living near a World Market, they have a lot of these candies. They even has what is essentially a Nutella KitKat. It has hazelnut cream in it. I just love how quiet Miles is and how he’s just thinking “I just wanna enjoy my damn bratwurst.”
You’re not eating the bubble chocolate correctly. You’re not supposed to chew it, but let it melt in your mouth. The bubbles make it melt differently. That said, I am enjoying this!
Actually the mounds bar is the reason why there is no bounty bar in the states. Mars Corp didn’t want to compede.
Oh, and the grocery store I work at in the Midwest sells the cider for like 4 bucks a bottle.
It’s funny how some things that are completely familiar stuff for myself is new for them. But hey, if I was to try American food/candy, it would be new to me.
Yes and no; if you live in a tourist trap-ish town, they might have a shop that sells European food. I live in such a place, and I can get any of the stuff in this video at any time.
Mead is best enjoyed mixed up with beer…alone it’s to sweet and strong
That highlander beer is 5% you say? If I’m not mistaken Guinness is 4% but it’s really dark, you either like it or you hate it.
And about the chocolate, I had american chocolate once and it tasted like shit, even the candy bar chocolate here is better…
It’s so weird watching them eat this candy, as an Australian we have most of the British candy and not so much American stuff… lol at taking a big of the curly wurly, those things will rip your fillings out, gotta take small bites :)
Being from the UK, the sheer amazement on you guys face at the sight of a Twirl, made my fucking day!
Hey, Spoony I don’t know whether anyone has commented about this already but you can get Jaffa Cakes in the states. They sell them at some Meijers in the international isle. They also sell Aero and Lion bars.
I think it’s adorable that you’ve never had a Lion or Turkish delight before. It’s so common where I’m from, it’s really weird to see you guys try what I’ve been snacking on since my early childhood.
go to scotland and they will deep fry all of that for you LOL
also potato is worst for your teeth than sugar
How he pronounced McVities just got me
moro means hello in slang finnish
Turkish Delight is beyond awesome.
Solitary sounds horrific and my opinion of spoony has actually taken a knock because he likes it.
Spoony eating jaffa cakes though is crazy awesome, he should totally meet up with the yogscasts
I’m basically in the same boat as spoony when it comes to alcohol. I don’t drink much, and i really do not much like the taste of beer. I’ve tried the cherry beer he briefly mentioned, and didn’t like that, either. I did try hard cider just the other day, though, and rather liked it. I like apple cider, and it pretty much tasted the same, but with a mild alcohol taste on top. It actually felt like the same basic deal as the one drink i usually order on the rare occasion that i do actually drink, Mike’s Hard Lemonade.
I wasn’t offended by him cooking the brats in the beer. I live in Wisconsin, and that is a VERY common way of cooking brats. While i don’t much care for beer, beer brats are pretty damn good. Though i don’t put sourcraut on mine like spoony did. I don’t much care for the stuff. Instead i usually put ketchup and brown mustard on mine, and occasionally relish and diced onions as well.
I don’t really have much opinion on the candy. I’m fine with the “american trash” you buy for a buck at the gas station. And even then, i prefer peanut butter candy over straight chocolate. In fact, peanut butter cups are probably my favorite.
Real turkish delight is so awesome… Almost too sweet though
“Sorry, we’re unable to play this episode.”
