So what did you think of it?

  • http://www.facebook.com/manuel.wolf.94 Manuel Wolf

green bird: the official soundtrack to falling from great heights and out of a window.
scratch the great heights part. i’m pretty sure it’d also work if played it to a slow-motion of that scene from the beginning of resident evil 4.

So, it´s okay to throw womens trough windows?

It never gets old, doesn’t it ?

    • likalaruku

CN showed CB to death back in the day. I have memorized every epsode. I can never watch it again. I don’t even want to watch anything remotely like it. Too much of a good thing becomes something unbearable, like bludgeoning a chocoholic with a chocolate shillelagh until they lose their taste for all that is chocolaty.

  • Guest

Didn’t get it. Maybe because I didn’t see the movie.

    • http://www.facebook.com/stanley.delacruz.16 Stanley Delacruz

      watch cowboy bebop.

Its one of the best scenes from Cowboy Bebop. If you havent watched that you really need to

  • http://www.facebook.com/ferreiraoaf Tiago Ferreira

    Didn’t get it, maybe it’s because I didn’t watch the movie…

    • Jegsimmons

      watch cow boy bebop

    • TacoPie

There’s a scene in Cowboy Bebop where one of the protagonists gets thrown through a window and falls in slow motion while that music plays.

Spoony played the music over a similar scene from Dredd where Dredd throws the antagonist through a window and she falls in slow motion.

  • http://www.facebook.com/stanley.delacruz.16 Stanley Delacruz

longest five seconds ever. also fits surprisingly well.

  • jello44

    See you, Space Cowgirl.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lina.jones.142 Lina Jones

Bleh. I have never understood the appeal of these five second movies.

Nice reference, though. I always liked the Care Bears.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Roman-Monaghan/100000507912679 Roman Monaghan

      The appeal is they’re funny.

      *shock gasp*

      • http://www.facebook.com/lina.jones.142 Lina Jones

        Now there’s yer komedy!

  • imaginaryGHOST

lol I see what you did there.. 5 seconds because SLOW MOTION

I really liked the movie, it was a return to form for the character (not really, but better than what Stallone did with him). I was also surprised to find out that it DIDN’T in fact copy The Raid, as it started filming a year before the latter. Anyway, good movie, great 3D (yes, I love 3D. It looks awesome in my living room).

    • c.conley90

I’m going to still remember Stallone’s version, if not for the hilarious yelling of I AM THE LAW. This version it will probably just be the slow motion and action scenes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Georg-Veramme/719603017 Georg Veramme

And that was the day when Space Eomer threw Space Cersei Lannister through a window, and there was much happiness.

  • Cuvis

I see what you did there…

BTW, if you haven’t seen Dredd, you should. Really fucking awesome action flick.

  • Jegsimmons

    Dredd was fucking awesome.

    also, hilarious vid.

haha what a coincidence I just happened to see that movie for the first time a couple days ago ^^

This looks like a fucking perfume commercial.

  • Robert Riter

Pretty clever, but SPOILER NOTICE this video! Jesus. I saw the film but if I was one of the (unfortunately many, many, many) people who didn’t, I’d be really pissed about having, you know, the ending ruined without warning (these videos rarely go -that- far with spoilers)

The 5 second thing was pretty clever and was a laugh when I realized what happened, I just think a (SPOILERS!) is warranted here.

    • Wayne Davis

“The villain dies at the end” is something you should probably see coming. ESPECIALLY when Dredd is on the case!

      • http://twitter.com/anceldelambert Aaron Kerr

I haven’t seen the movie, but am already well aware of the ending. Actually, it just makes me want to see it more, as I’ve heard the slo-mo bits are particularly aesthetic.

      • Robert Riter

It’s less “Does the villain die?” but more “how” in this case.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Roman-Monaghan/100000507912679 Roman Monaghan

The movie has been out for over a year. At this point it’s your fault for not seeing it and yet still watching videos about it on the internet.

      • http://twitter.com/Nukleon Nukleon

It only just came out on home video you know.

      • dennett316

Over a year?? It came out in September of last year in the UK, and the US a few weeks later. Barely even 4 months is nowhere close to over a year.

And yes, we all know the bad guy dies (though not always) but the how is important too. Spoiler warnings would have been appropriate for those who didn’t see it…especially in the US where it was a bit harder to see due to not doing so well theatrically.

If you’re one of the (unfortunately many) people who didn’t go see this movie in theaters, or pick up a copy recently, how would you know that girl was the main villain? And even if you didn’t finish the movie, with the plethora of slo-mo shots at the beginning, how do you know she wasn’t just some red shirt #2?

  • Merost

Wow. Two weeks after a 20min video we get literally a 5 seconds video. And in a week or so another 20min video.

Spoony get your shit together. Your videos are funny as hell, but if you want TSE to be your main gig you have to up your content. Look at Linkara, AngryJoe, Totalbiscuit etc. Im checking their sites like every day, an yours only every week or so. WTF happened to you man?

    • bluestreak

I miss old Spoony. The Spoony of ~2008 with SWAT, Chris Walken and Fuse Box Counter. Videos were less forced back then, more natural and of course more updates.

I would literally pay money to see those kinds of videos again. Yeah, if Spoony were to put up a premium model for his website, I would subscripe. Dont know how much, but 10 Dollars a month at least. Maybe that would help him to find back to his old strength.

      • Firewalker

Fuck it, I would too. His old stuff was glorious. From his new stuff only the Ultima series came close. And that took two years to finish -_-

        • pelleparafin

Yeah, I prefer re-watching the ripper, final fantasy 8 or phantasmagoria to his new crap. The 20 minute or more rants on ”What is that? Who would need that? How much would that cost? What is it made of? How is that an effective weapon? How is there a market for this?” rants like in both final fantasy videos and the ring is a 20 minute constant facepalm moment for me.

I wish I could just grab him and tell him to get on with it…

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kai-Vogeley/100002421282472 Kai Vogeley

I dunno. His newer stuff simply is closer to redlettermedia than tgwtg. Which makes sense in that spoonys personal tastes changed over time. Or he simply wants to try new stuff.

Now, he got most of his fans with the old stuff, so they don’t rally care for him trying to reinvent himself. They might’ve if he pumped out videos more frequently so the change of gears wouldn’t have looked all that sudden.

But yeah. redlettermedia is better at being redlettermedia than spoony is. I do hope, however, that spoony manages to return to his old shtick/finds a good new one.

        • MiniMacker

“Came close”? Really? The Ultima Retrospective is the most well-made and emotional game series review I’ve ever seen. Spoony pours his heart out towards the last ones.

They’re a testament of what he went through with Ultima and games in general when he was a kid. It wasn’t a hey-ho-commentary let’s play.

Maybe you like the more one-sided reviews with the fuck-bombs and the counter gags. Take a look at James Rolfe’s later AVGN episodes. They still have the swearing and the shitting, but they’ve also become more informative. He talks about what went through during the production and *why* the game turned out like it did.

      • Merost

Ha I never thought I would give money do an “Internet Reviewer” on a regular basis, but I already donated Spoony….If he were to up his output and quality, then why not?

He really should explore that option. Maybe a “Donate & Vote” option first, you donate and then you can vote what kind of video comes next.

    • Alex Santa Maria

LITERALLY 5 seconds? Obviously you haven’t watched the video.

    • unknown unknown

Why do you care? Spoony is providing free entertainment, and when he does, it is quality entertainment. Your life is not affected by the frequency in which he releases videos. Leave the guy alone and go seek some other form of entertainment. Spoony will release videos when he feels like it, which is fine by me. The less pressure he has coming from his own freaking fanbase, the happier he is sure to be.

      • Andyrenter

What? You cant understand why we care that stuff we used to enjoy is suddenly becoming less fun and being released less frequent?? Oh and because its free we are not allowed to critizise that??

        • raindancer

And of course they said they were willing to pay for more content.

          • Testsubject909

Take it with a grain of salt.

Fanboys are ready to say anything to get what they want. Very few actually go through with their promises.

        • unknown unknown

I would make an extensive reply to this, but the SpoonyOne just a made a post below explaining why the videos are released so slowly. Ya…he pretty much just solidified the reason on why people need to lay-off his business. He is only one man with alot of big projects.

    • Jayden Reynolds

Let’s see why Merost can kindly quit complaining:

His videos are getting increasingly complex, especially with what he’s reviewing. His current undertaking, FFXIII, is particularly brutal because of the length of the game and the sheer amount of footage he has to comb through (and the sheer amount of vitriol he holds for the game – there’s a lot of shit to cover!) because of that. There’s also the numerous (stupid) complexities of the game that take a lot of goddamn effort.

This results in lengthy times for scripting, editing, shooting, and not to mention playing the damn game. He doesn’t have the advantage of being a two-man team like many other producers either. Doug Walker has his brother to help him out quite a bit, especially with shooting, writing and editing. It’s trivial to speed up the process of turning out content when someone else can hold the damn camera, bounce joke ideas off you, and help edit while you’re busy.

He has a girlfriend now, one that doesn’t exactly live nearby.(Wisconsin, I think, versus Arizona). This takes more time out of his work schedule, however, it definitely will help stabilize his known emotional problems (I know I feel like I’m king of the world after establishing a new relationship) which conflict with work.

And as he mentioned in that tweet/post, he’s being stretched further than Reed fucking Richards for time. He can’t always be playing and working on FFXIII – I know that I would quickly go insane doing that.

      • unknown unknown

Glad to see some of his fans still have some measure of sense and understanding among the entitled idiots that make up most of his fanbase. Good on ya man, people need to understand that Spoony isn’t laying about doing nothing, he really is doing what he can.

      • Erebus_Locke

His videos getting more complex is one of the things I dont like. His old videos were far simpler, more natural, less forced.

Also the game. His funniest stuff was about old games like SWAT, Ripper and The Thing. He should do that again.

        • Jayden Reynolds

I fail to see how what he does these days is forced.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1442290943 Derek Thomas

Merost is 100% right. Nuff said.

    • Jegsimmons

are you really bitching about free content from a dude who is working and reviewing 50+ hour RPGs while also trying to move out of state, while he is pumping out content the fastest he has in quiet a while?

      really man?

ill tell you what, get off your ass, make reviews yourself, editing and all, and then pump them out week after week. any if you can do that with the quality spoony has, then you can bitch. until then, shut up and save disqus the bandwidth.

oh grow the hell up, you guys, he’s working on the script and filming and just sent this vid out as something to hold us over until then, do you honestly believe that Spoony doesn’t multitask?
stop hating and assuming if you don’t have the whole damned story! Jesus Christ! I see what Spoony meant about his fans.

    • Spectr

20min every two weeks is sub par.

      • Jayden Reynolds

Hm… last one was 26 minutes, and if rounded to the closest minute, would be 27 minutes. That’s actually quite a bit more than 20 minutes.

20 minutes every two weeks is certainly not sub par for any one man. It would be sub-par for a TV show, maybe, but those have a whole team behind them. Even one guy more would significantly speed up the process, but as Spoony has frequently said, he needs someone experienced with editing who has plenty of free time, and few are as experienced as him.

        • http://www.facebook.com/lina.jones.142 Lina Jones

One realizes how truly blessed Doug Walker was to have not one, but two (or more) people working behind the scenes with him for most of his time as the Nostalgia Critic. It’s no wonder he was able to pump out a weekly episode and two other steady shows and other specials along the way.

I have no idea how guys like Linkara can manage to pump out a weekly episode and specials when he’s essentially a one-man crew. Other than Cinema Snob (who I think has helpers for his regular show as well as his specials), no one else on TGWTG is as prolific.

For as elaborate as Spoony’s vids can get, it’s no surprising his stuff takes longer than most when he’s still a one-man show.

          • Testsubject909

This shows how much people care about what happens behind the scene. It’s like the end credits of a movie. Everyone gets up, walks away, puts a blind eye to all that teamwork and effort and focuses only on very few things:

1: The end product by itself.
            2: The director
3: The more interesting actors to talk about (Crappiest, Best).

Much in the same way for these online videos. Do you really think most of the people who are either encouraging Spoony or “Criticizing” him really give a damn about the going-ons behind the scene?

And I do have to put “Criticizing” in quotation because from what I’ve read to date and not bothered to reply on was a lot of whining and only a small handful of actual constructive criticism while some are just fanboys with nostalgia glasses on wanting more of the old stuff rather then the new direction, some even jumping the gun early and taking neutral statements as blind fanboyism, though I have noticed some are pulling out statistics now to reinforce their statements. Solid evidence is always valid. Granted it’s reliability of course.

I’m also finding the ones saying that fans who are ready to pay money for Spoony to decrease the quality of the videos and regress to an earlier state are declaring themselves as non-fanboys… When their attitude is clearly that of a disgruntled fanboy. Or fangirl, I have no clue as to their gender.

I’m personally on neither camp. There are some videos I’ve loved, some I’ve found okay, some entire series I’ve not even bothered to click on because I don’t really care to. I come back every now and again to see if there’s a new video maybe once a week and on my stance towards Spoony. I only wish him well as a human being towards another human being. If ever he stopped making videos, that’d be too bad but that wouldn’t alter my life in any major way. If he changed his videos or regressed them back to a prior state to please the constantly whining fanbase, it wouldn’t affect me much. If he stays the route with the positive reinforcing fanbase, it still wouldn’t affect me much.

It’d be like the Nostalgia Critic ending. It was entertaining and I enjoyed watching the videos weekly. But once that was gone, it was the same as any show on TV ending their run. You just go and search for another piece of entertainment and hope that whoever was involved in the show is doing well with whatever new project they have.

          • LotusPrince

I quite agree. As part of a facebook contest, I made an AT4W-style review. We had a week to do it, and I turned my video in with something like six hours to spare. Making videos of that kind is not as quick and easy as people seem to think it is.

Let’s Plays, on the other hand? Editing is minimal, and scripting is nonexistent, so I can put stuff up literally every day, with a week or so between LP’s. :-D

          • Jayden Reynolds

Linkara isn’t even that much of a one-man gig anymore. He has Iron Liz – that, and the man is known to be a determinator. Dude’s unstoppable.

But Doug had his brother for pretty much the whole run of NC, and NC was an easier project anyway. Compare any movie to any game: a movie tops out at 3.5 hours (there’s exceptions, but hardly any movies go beyond), whereas a 3.5 hour game is exceptionally short. JRPGs like FFXIII are 100 or more hours long – that’s a lot of frickin’ footage to comb through.

Meanwhile, the movie is 3.5 hours or less (commonly 80 to 90 minutes), contains only a few plot elements in comparison to a lengthy RPG, there aren’t various mechanics that may or may not suck, and there’s only a bit of footage to comb through in comparison to that RPG. Spoony picks more complicated things to review and so his release schedule isn’t that great. Oh fucking well. Deal with it.

As an aside, does anyone watch Todd in the Shadows? His pop song reviews are at most 14 minutes long with the exception of his top 10s (which commonly clock in over 22 minutes), and yet he only puts out a review every two to four weeks. And yet, no one bitches about his release schedule. Bennett the Sage’s Anime Abandon only gets out a review every few weeks as well, and these are often under 20 minutes (though less often these days). Shit, he splits up individual movie reviews to be multiple parts released over a 1 to 2 month timeframe, and no one complains! Rap Critic doesn’t even have the excuse that Todd does of watching the pop charts to see what gets big – he just puts one out every so often, usually every 2 or so weeks.

So that’s three people doing less complex stuff and yet having similar schedules to Spoony. Tell me – how is he a lazy bastard again?

      • Skelemelon

Plus re-watching value. Often takes a few views to get all of the information in and understand jokes.

      • LotusPrince

        Let’s see you do better.

No. Seriously. I want to see you turn out content of that quality, and faster than Spoony does. Remember that he’s reviewing an 80-100 hour RPG, which he has to play and compile more gigs of footage than I’d like to imagine, and then edit it properly, so it’s only fair if you review a game of similar length, with that attention to detail.

Really. I want to see you try this. Do it.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100004531236353 João Gonçalves

He isn’t playing it for your information….

          • LotusPrince

Even so, he’d at least have to see what’s going on in order to be able to grab clips, and that’s still far more hours (and again, gigs) of content that I would know what to do with.

First, give Spoony a break he is aloud a life or at least month long high fructose corn syrup fueled internet porn binges.

Second, there is only two things guaranteed in life Death and Gravity. Though according to Terry Pratchett’s Disc-world they are apparently different aspects of the same being so.

    looks…. awesome…. but that music…. wtf

  • http://spoonyexperiment.com The Spoony One

Guys, I’m sorry the review turnaround is as slow as it is. Bottom-line, RPGs take an absurd amount of time to review, especially in the long-winded style I normally do. If I distract myself with Let’s Plays, lots of riff videos, or whatever, it only slows down an already arduous process.

My attention’s been divided about 5 different directions, with YouTube hassles, an upcoming portable video app, conventions, crossovers, Counter Monkey, an effort to move out of state, you name it. I’m trying to prioritize reviews. If you want a faster turnaround schedule, I need help. And unless you can edit video as well as I can, I don’t think you can help.

    • Spectr

I would be willing to pay money. Lets say a donate option to vote for the text (type) of video. That way you can also make out what your fanbase wants.

I for example like you for the Lets Plays. (Ripper, Phantasmagoria). Why dont you bring one of these back? Or at least give a vote option like I descriped above.

      • Jayden Reynolds

There’s plenty of Let’s Plays out there, many of them funny. Let Spoony do what he wants.

        • antiquarius

Wow you really are a cocksucker arent you? Have you checked alexa stats lately? If Spoony keeps doing what he wants there wont be a TSE in the future.

His fans are giving him constructive critisism (les produced, lets plays), are even willing to pay money, and you stupid fanboy still have to suck cock -__-

YOU are worse to Spoony with your blind admiration than anyone critizising him.

          • JackRyan

Leave him. Hes too stupid to understand that critizising doesnt equals “whining”.

Critizism means his fans care, it means his fans are invested in him and this site, and upset when the quality and quantity declines.

Stupid fanboys like him would cheer along on every move, right until he had to shut down the site.

          • Skelemelon

Is being so aggressive really necessary? Enjoying all of Spoony’s work doesn’t equal fanboyism. Liking it for just being Spoony’s is, but liking it for being good isn’t. Since he didn’t display either one of those opinions, it’s really unfair to make a snap judgment like that. He is probably, like most people, sick of every game-related video being an LP now. For example, Seananners doesn’t do nearly as many commentaries, and just does LP shorts. There’s far too many LPs out there and the people who start doing more LPs start to turn to doing only/mostly LPs because of their low work requirement and high turnout rate. He probably just doesn’t want TSE to become an LP website.

          • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1442290943 Derek Thomas

It’s totally necessary. It makes people who have a healthy love for the guy look horrible. And that doesn’t exactly boost the status of the one being loved either… when all your most devoted followers are a bunch of fanboys? It ain’t a good thing… I’m pretty sure spoony doesn’t want the same kind of fans as Justin Beiber.

          • Skelemelon

I get that, but I was saying that he didn’t show any real evidence of outright fanboyism, so the aggression would be uncalled for. That is, until you could tell that he was a rabid fanboy for sure.

          • Atmos_Duality

There are benefits to doing the occasional LP though.
It’s much less “weighty” in terms of production. Less editing, less scripting, no need for forming arguments and nitpicking, just commenting.

Syncing the audio is the worst part, and that’s fairly simple. Especially compared to the stuff Spoony has been doing over the last year.

An LP is good filler material, especially for those segments between conventions and vlogs of said conventions.

I think Spoony’s audience would be happier if they weren’t constantly dwelling on the lack of content overall. Look at that huge time gap in his later FF8 videos. If review content were the only thing people looked forward to, TSE would have collapsed long ago.

Plus, Spoony is pretty damn good at doing the impromptu Riff-LP. It plays to his strengths. His current scripting does in fact feel more forced than it used to and he could do with a return to his more “organic” videos like when he started.

          • Jayden Reynolds

This is it, actually. I don’t like LPs at all – the only decent ones I’ve come across are screenshot LPs for Dwarf Fortress and Spoony’s LP of SWAT, the former because that game is fucking nuts, the latter because it was well done and funny.

I’d rather go play a game than watch someone else play it in real time. But a true review? That’s more like it – that’s not just some dude playing a game and commenting on it, but someone evaluating it as a whole, or at least in sections (as Noah is doing with FFXIII).

          • Daedalus

“Enjoying all of Spoony’s work doesn’t equal fanboyism.” As stated its a blind admiration that makes them fanboys. I think it goes without saying that Spoony makes some great videos but the issue is the effort and the output. I do hope things take a turn for the better.

          • Skelemelon

“Liking it just for being Spoony’s is”
When you quote something, actually read it. Don’t just restate what has been said in the quoted comment and what it is replying to. Also, I was saying that the comment wasn’t displaying any evidence of fanboyism. Reading. It helps.

Actually… No, it isn’t. The site costs money to maintain, and Spoony gets his just deserts in donations from many of his fans. It’s not free. It’s absolutely paid for.

          • Skelemelon

He means it’s free for the viewers.

I know I have personally enjoyed his Counter Monkey (in particular) and other off the cuff reviews significantly more than anything else in the last year or so. Thats Spoony at his best, not the Final fantasy and Ultima series. A lot of the other stuff seems incredibly forced, and its not hard to spot the parts he doesnt enjoy doing. He’s far better as a natural storyteller than a set-piece reviewer.

    • http://www.facebook.com/ztfreeman Zachary Freeman

Hey, keep up the good work. Seriously, take your time and make quality content at your own pace. You are one of the best in the game, and don’t let a small group of vocal fans get you down.

I noticed that the only semi-valid critique of improving your website is coupled with an attempt to control what you do. Don’t fall into that trap. Your creative drive is what makes your content as good as it is. I’m all up for having the fans be at the table in making anything better, but they can’t hold all the cards, otherwise it wouldn’t be your show.

If this truly isn’t working financially, I’d consider reevaluating the business model and creating something to put up on kickstarter. If going bigger and better is the end goal and you are reaching your limits, I’d come up with a creative way to sell a kickstarter investment drive to build a better site, and possibly reaching out to creating a team that can work behind the scenes to handle some of the heavy lifting.

If I won the lottery I’d call you up in a second just to make sure you were taken care of to keep this site going. Your reviews really help me get through the day, and I think what you do is nothing short of amazing.

Pace yourself, don’t wear your self out, and take it one step at a time. Your running a marathon, not a sprint.

If you ask me, your best work man was when you just got back from a theater, turned the camera on with taco bell or something, and just spoke on the movie you just watched. Quarantine, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and the Twilight movie reviews, imo, is the funniest stuff on your site. You don’t have to try all that hard, in fact your at your most funniest when you hardly try at all with unscripted reviews such as that.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1442290943 Derek Thomas

Seriously. Like the chuckles the jester stuff was good and all, but it doesn’t always have to be that way. Just chill with us on the net like we’re your semi-not-really internet friends. :D Because we are. Who make you rich. :D :D Chill out and enjoy yourself with us.

      • http://www.facebook.com/arne.maes Arne Maes

I have to disagree on that, he has a lot of funny material but the best stuff is still the Phantasmagoria and Ripper let’s plays, his movie reviews, especially the Reb Brown ones, are also pretty hilarious. His Vlogs are a good way for him to crank out some material fast and I do enjoy them but if that’d be the only draw to this site I’d stop checking it so religiously, Spoony’s much better scripted than unscripted, and there’s no shame in that.

        • Erebus_Locke

I actually think his Phantasmagoria stuff wasnt that much scripted – At least it felt less scripted than his reviews.

          • http://www.facebook.com/arne.maes Arne Maes

Yeah it probably was quite unscripted but still not nearly as much as the Vlogs are, his penchant for repeating himself makes them less enjoyable than they could be. Not saying they’re bad, far from it, they’ve entertained me far too much for that, but it’s still worse than his other stuff.

I have to admit Counter monkey is pretty great though, and about as unscripted as it gets.

        • http://twitter.com/Codexx Cody Curry

I certainly miss the LP’s, especially the FMV Hell segments. But SWAT 4 is a series I find myself rewatching when bored. It’s endless amusement. Some more LP’s would be lovely. Unscripted Spoony has an undeniable charm. Scripted Spoony is definitely objectively better, but you miss some really great moments in some games seeing his actual reaction. It can punctuate just how awful/ridiculous/weird something is better than him doing a five minute skit about it.

I’d say the only thing I miss, aside from LP’s and regular (non-Vlog) movie reviews is probably the old FF8 style reviews. He used to tear into the gameplay more. Maybe the Final Fantasy well is running dry; it’s not like he doesn’t mention “Hey, this gameplay mechanic is broken AGAIN!”. But it ends up with an inordinate amount of attention being paid to the nonsensical storyline. Just kind of disappointing he skipped over a chance to rip on FF12’s gameplay (which actually tried new stuff) and skipped straight to FF13 just to nitpick the cyber gadgetry and strange setting. Yeah, it’s bad. It’s real bad. But the gameplay should get the same treatment the Hallway did.

I’ve been a fan for a long time, and while I know the last comment was a bit sarcastic, since most of the viewers can’t edit as well as you can:

Well, I don’t know if I can edit as well as you can, that’s for you to judge, but I certainly can edit, among other things. I went to school for it, have a degree for it, and have spent a hell of a lot of hours doing it. It’s a pity I’m in the wrong state -I’m not in Arizona- and unless you’re planning a move to Washington State, it would probably never happen. If you thought that feasible, I’d send you a demo reel of my editing, and my film-making skills in general.

I know how hard and complicated and time-consuming editing projects can be. Keep up the good work.

    • draxo

Its fine Spoony, just do what you always do and ignore the ‘omg I want my free stuff now’ assholes.

    • theshamster

You know, Spoony, I think when you get the time, you should write a novel.
I myself have completed university and i’m currently writing my very first novel. It is quite amazing to see what you can do when you put your mind to it.
Also, you have a very wild imagination, all of your videos has you inject your own brand of humor and imagination into them, so why not make a story about…say…Dr Insano and his adventures. I sure would buy it.

    • MrRuse

Don’t worry Spoony, stuff is done when stuff is done. If you’re busy we’ll wait.

I’m not quite sure why there’s so much strong butt-hurt in these comments. We’d all like to see more Spoony Experiment but it seems like some people have a sense of entitlement that they in no way deserve. Anyway, keep up the good work, I thought this was funny as hell.

    • PeaTearGryfin

Take as much time for the reviews as you need. I would rather have good reviews that take a while to make than half-assed reviews at a frequent rate.

    • Sajeh

I can edit a video as well as you, not the cheesy special effects though, but I haven’t seen anything you have edited, that I can’t do. I work daily at a small TV-station, I got Sony Vegas at home, but also experienced in Final Cut. As I got inspired by you and other internet reviewers like everyone else, I can pretty much picture your style and I can follow a manuscript. If you got everything worked out already, then I can just say that I am fast at editing and I can with confidence deliver a worthy product. I am ready for a test.

This was just to let you know, I have to go and think about it for a while.

I just wanna take this opportunity to say, I freakin love you man. :D
You should read my comment on your last FF13 video so you can know just how deep the mancrush goes!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1442290943 Derek Thomas

      Here man.

There’s just no excuse. If spoony had regular quality content like he did back in 2009 or even 2010 and most of 2011 and 12, i’d be a paying subscriber. You hear that Spoony! I’D PAY 20 BUCKS A MONTH IF YOU HAD A REGULAR SHOW THAT YOU PUT EFFORT INTO LIKE THE OLD DAYS! He won’t read this comment though because he doesn’t seem to care about his fans.

Ship, I don’t even watch his videos because I think he’s funny. I actually feel a connection with Spoon. I like him. At least what I’ve seen of him. And I don’t just mean the performances. Chuckles was hilarious though… I get the feeling I’d probably be good friends with Noah if I knew him in real life. I like him that much. That’s why it’s not as simple as it just being about entertainment. I consider him like an extended friend. Is that sad? Pathetic? Sure. But hey, I live in Idaho. There’s nothing but conservative rednecks and sluts around here and it’s not everyday you see somebody as cool and nerdy as Noah.

It’s mostly due to the nature and format of the show. He talks to us, the audience, like we’re right there. So it’s natural to get kinda attached compared to a movie or something that’s being acted out for the audience. He also shows his real side at times which is more like a regular vlog site. That also helps you feel attached to him as a person. So is it a little strange I find myself feeling a vague connection with Noah as well as Spoon? Sure. But it’s understandable.

On the other hand, it is annoying when I got nothing to watch and a regular site I check back at literally every day for entertainment is dead on a regular basis. There’s not a lot of entertainment out there on the web anymore that’s worth watching. It’s turning into cable tv. Now that NC is gone, and demo reel sucks, all I got left from this 1 1/2 year long journey I’ve had with Spoon, NC and linkara is Linkara. And linkara was originally my back up of the backup. (NC being the backup)

Spoon means a lot to me. This guy, got me through a really rough time. I lost my fiance back in april of 2011, and all I could find to distract me was spoony’s videos. I stumbled onto him by accident. And all I did for months was watch his videos for a couple hours a day. It took my mind off the pain and helped me get perspective and heal. I know that sounds cheesy, but spoony has become for me like a warm blanket or a pint of really good ice cream to chicks.

SO yeah. Sorry for the novel.

You do your thing spoony, just keep this in mind. Don’t apologize for the slow turnaround in the video itself. It makes it permanent for those who may go through your backlog of videos years down the line. The last thing you want to do in that moment is remind people of the slow schedule.

I know what it’s like to be pulled in several different directions, it
can be tough. Anyone who thinks it’s easy to just ignore school, or
      work, family emergencies or a move have obviously never had a life;

Prioritization wins over obsessive-fans, I believe. If you
need to devote your time to other things, then go ahead. It’s not as if
you’ve completely abandoned the site and I’d rather see an update every
once and awhile then none at all. Heck, I’d even start paying
subscription if that’s what it took. This is supposed to be fun, after all, not a life-sucking chore.

I’m willing to wait, and I’m optimistic that the true fans of this site will be too ^^. As for your best work, it seems to me like you hit a niche; there are people who like your scripted work and people who like the on-the-spot stuff. I dig both, myself, and strictly think you should do what you want, considering you’ve pleased both factions. It sounds like you have a lot of junk on your plate, man, so whatever is easier is fine by me.

Don’t listen to the addicts. They be scratching and fiending for a Spoony fix and when their dealer ain’t there with the shit. They go to others for lower quality shit, but it doesn’t seem to ease the shakes. So they bitch and moan or possibly go on Youtube saying they are warlock. Cause the dealer man ain’t out there every day.

I don’t mind, you take as long as you need. I don’t even mind if you do more cross overs with film brain. But I did love your Dune rifftrax and would like to see/hear one of all the Lord of the Rings movie, the extended editions, none of that weak theatrical cut nonsense.

Seriously Spoony, Your JOB is to entertain, not your LIFE. Things happen and we understand. I’d rather get something really good and memorable every 2 weeks than something rushed and half-hearted every 3 days.

      • Daedalus

No offense but on most of his uploads he complains that he was busy and rushed the video out. So in essence he makes rushed and half-hearted videos every 1-2 months.

Shit will get done when shit gets done. I’m not going to complain about free entertainment. Love your stuff enough to be patient and god knows your long-winded rants are hilarious. Oh, and good luck with the move. I’ve moved so many times in my life that I feel your pain, especially when you’re like me and are very proud of your huge book collection until you realize how freaking heavy they are in boxes.

    • Malidictus

Well, this descended quickly, didn’t it? I don’t get why people stating an opinion – be it for or against Spoony’s chosen path in reviews – almost immediately seem to get slapped with ad-hominem attacks or outright insults for daring to have a dissenting opinion. If you agree with Noah you’re a cock-sucking fanboy and if you disagree with Noah you’re a fucking troll. How the hell does that logic even work?

My opinion on this is the same as with every other “controversy” – let the guy work. If you don’t like it, tell him and move on. If someone else disagrees with you, let it go. You will never force the entirety of the Internet to agree with you, and insulting people all but ensures they won’t agree with you even if you’re on the same side.

Yes, I’m aware that Spoony’s humour is based around cynicism and curse words, but – to my eyes at least – the man is trying to be serious and constructive. The least we can do is try to be serious and constructive in return. Agree, disagree, criticise or support, that’s all fine. Just please, have some respect for the man, have some respect for your fellow fans and, above all else, have some respect for how you conduct yourself in public. Please.

      • Daedalus

Spoony has on many occasions distilled his arguments to just ad-hominem attacks in fits of rage against those that disagree with him. I don’t see you acting holier than Spoony.

I understand your moral indignation but I hardly feel I must comply to your pseudo-humble act of self-congratulatory tripe. Your middle of the road taunting of each opposing side doesn’t make you more reasonable. You are just as or more unreasonable as everyone else.
        Have a nice day.

        • Malidictus

Well, your self-righteous passive-aggressive insults don’t really do anything to change my opinion. My point stands – I find the ourtage over Spoony not producing more videos to be pointless, and that you would interpret that as “tainting” speaks more of your bias than of my intent.

The fact of the matter is that I’m not angry and your words aren’t going to make me angry. I come here for entertainment. If nothing new’s been added, I go somewhere else. If something new’s been added, I watch it. Simple as that.

I just find it weird that every video Spoony makes that’s not a major release will eventually devolve into people bickering over his release schedule. If THAT is what you come to the site for, then more power on you, I guess. And, yeah, if tossing backhand insults at me entertains you, then by all means continue. It’s fine by me.

          • Daedalus

Okay seeing as how you didn’t bother to address anything I said I’ll have to assume you misunderstood me. Your entire reply is basically an ad-hominem seeing as how you never address my point and instead substitute it with pointless mocking. My point was to criticize your argument against taking sides in a debate not your E-feelings. I’ll break what I said down in layman’s terms.
Looking down on both sides of an argument doesn’t make you better it makes you useless to the argument. You were projecting a false sense of humility in claiming you don’t need to argue but instead proved that you think that it makes you somewhat better.
When I said have a nice day I meant it. I don’t know how to avoid sarcasm in text format.
I’m sure you are a decent person in real life but I think your argument was wrong I’m not an internet boogeyman who likes stealing candy from unsuspecting babies.

*Not sarcastic* Have a good day. *Not sarcastic*

          • Malidictus

Well, in that case I did misread your argument, and for that I apologise.

However, you really are missing my point if you’re reading it as me mocking anyone. I have no problem with people getting on Spoony’s case for not creating content faster. Hell, I myself have gone on the record as asking for more vlogs. I love those and I can’t imagine taking 30 minutes to talk about something unscripted can take THAT much away from the guy’s schedule, but I’m obviously not him.

Just the same, though, I don’t think people are justified in vilifying the guy because his style has changed or because he makes more complex videos or what have you. And this always happens. Every time he posts a Bij or a 5-second video or just something quick which isn’t a review, it turns into people chastising him for not producing more.

My position is let the man work. There’s no need to insult him and there’s no need to defend him. We’re all here for entertainment, and bickering with each other is not entertaining. It’s actually quite stressful. I’m not looking down on both sides, I just wish both sides would tone down the accusations both of Spoony and of each other and we can actually enjoy Dread in 5 seconds that’s actually a minute and a half because it IS funny.

However, please understand that when you use terms like “pseudo-humble self-congratulatory tripe,” the constructive side of your argument is easy to lose in the shuffle.

          • Daedalus

An internet relationship like the one between a content creator and viewer is a symbiotic relationship in my approximation. While there is no employment, there is however a demand and if you fail to meet that demand on a timely basis you risk destabilizing your base demographic. It would be somewhat analogous to taking an egregious amount of sick days out from work.

I would agree that under your stated terms vilifying him for a slow output pace would be a harsh over-reaction.

I am of the belief that your position would result in a stagnant website and a sharp decline in viewership. I think my point is demonstrated pretty well by the fact that I only ever check his website once every blue moon or when I receive a Disqus notification. I’m aware this is anecdotal but we are both speaking of anecdotes on a topic of subjective interpretation of the results of Spoony’s slowing pace.

I was under the impression that whether or not I spoke negatively of someone’s behavior regarding a certain topic it wouldn’t result in the disqualification of my argument.

I pretty much enjoy almost everything you do, but your vlogs where you’re just bouncing things off Miles or Brad or just giving your thoughts on a film are my favorite. The reviews must take so much time and effort on your part, but for whatever reason, I enjoy them less than your more informal/natural ramblings. Keep up the good work, and thanks for everything you’ve given us so far.

    • edczxcvbnm

Content is content. A Lets Play of SWAT might distract a bit from the big reviews but it is something in the mean time. I really like the SWAT Lets Play because it doesn’t seem like a Lets Play. It has its own opening, unique closing and at least for over half the game it should be easy to create as the game doesn’t screw you at every turn. If it gets to be too much make a video showing the trouble and Officer Spoony is killed in the line of duty. Show a bunch of footage of cop funerals from movies and print it.

I think your problem is that you are just too much of a perfectionist which is why you always look at the camera. It is a good problem to have but it still a bit of a problem. You could do a Lets Play and release a new episode every Friday and every two-three months release the next big review. Counter Monkey Wednesdays. There are things you can do if you choose to.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chris-Lauderdale/100000047693553 Chris Lauderdale

I tried to do the internet reviewer actually for a few videos (VERY amateur stuff), and I can tell you I empathize. Making videos is not an easy process. I realized very quickly in that you film for 3 or more hours, and you end up with less than 10 minutes worth of material. You spend 3 times as much time editing as you do filming, watching the same clip dozens of times, hoping that you got the timing right, and that was my crappy amateur work. I imagine that you have gotten a lot more used to it over the years, but you also strike me as an insane perfectionist, and your videos have some of the best editing and timing around. I can imagine you spend 4 times as much time editing as filming easy. Your early work was obviously less polished and you probably spent half the time you do now pouring over your work. Just 5-6 years ago, your Final Fantasy 8 early work? Utter amateur compared to now, in editing, video quality, content, and sound. (Don’t get me wrong, I loved it, but your new content looks much more professional)

So that comes to probably 20 hours for a 20 minute video, and that is just filming and editing. I have no idea how much time it takes to add effects, shop for costumes, and do your research (which in a Final Fantasy game is crucial since the fans will tear you a new one if you miss something.) Final Fantast XIII is probably a devastatingly long process of research even for a Final Fantasy since the whole game was one long tunnel with little to no exposition, establishing dialogue, or explanations, forcing players to do lookups in the VERY clumsy wikipedia they shove into the menu screen.

Add to that the process of writing, which is no small feat. Writing dialogue into a cohesive rant that flows in a way that is both entertaining and still covers the bases is a harder process than people think.

This does not add in the conventions, crossovers, Youtube work, and his mention of the video app thingy I have no idea what the hell that is about, but the side projects pile up.

I have no idea if you have a part, or full time job outside this site, but if you do, you still seem to manage to make this site at least feel like it is your full time job instead of your hobby.

So as someone who tried the video editing thing, I know how it feels man. People may point to other online critics, but they often have help from other sources. All you got is Oreo and Miles. Both are adorable, but I don’t expect they do much film editing.

I’d like to give some advice, take it or toss it. 1 These videos where the content is longer than the commercials – they’re not worth it. Your viewers know why vids like this are here and it simply antagonizes them. Don’t piss off your fan base. That’s bad. 2 They need new content on a regular basis. Legitimate content, not stuff like this. Just take some time away from Twitter or Pathfinder or whatever and post a VLOG (or something) every week. Not that difficult, simply manage your time better. Look at Cinemassacre. He puts up polished reviews, is working on his movie, and yet still manages to post a new video that’s longer than 30 seconds every few days. 3 If you post regular content, you won’t have to waste further time by making up more excuses. I’ve been watching awhile, and have heard probably them all. I just don’t buy them any more and I doubt many other viewers do either. Except for that PeeTear guy; he’ll swallow anything.

Thanks for reading. Sorry if I come off as an asshole. I yam what I yam.

      A Former Donator

      • Daedalus

“Look at Cinemassacre” Bad idea. Uploads are more sparse than TSE, Mike Matei (Nuff said), AVGN tricked his fans into giving him money for a cheaply produced movie he made off-schedule, and on top of that they have ruined their chances of making as much money as TGWTG because of their deal with ScrewAttack.

This is coming from a former AVGN fan. Sorry if I come off as an asshole. I yam what I yam.

        • http://twitter.com/OpenMawTwitting Steven Johnson

Yeah, you definitely are an asshole. You completely spun some major league bullshit. What about Mike Matei? Nerd didn’t trick anyone into donating to him. He said “I’m making a movie. Donate if you want to help.” That’s not trickery.

          • Daedalus

Mike Matei is known for being a censor-happy false flagger and James Rolfe lied about key elements of the film which was clearly filmed for less than half of the crowd-sourced money. Only on the internet can someone point out that people got their money taken on fraudulent terms and get called an asshole.
Steven, maybe someday you’ll gain critical thinking skills but right now I don’t think I’ll be able to convince you of any of this. If you want links I’ll be happy to provide evidence.

    • CaptainDingaling

Having been following this website for a number of years I’ve just realized spoony’s pace of work is like tree sap fossilizing. It takes almost 1 month to 2 months for him to make an actual video. For every 1 video he does another review has done at least 5. The problem is the internet is a competitive place and these days taking forever is never a good idea when you’re website depends on needing “regular content” because you slowly become irrelevant when there isn’t enough content or regular updates. Using things like “fillers” like blogs stories or 5second videos don’t cut it anymore the net is already saturated with that kind of satire. I’ve heard/seen enough excuses from Spoony to realize he needs a team/more people to help him produce his videos so he can get it out the door faster and start bringing more traffic to the website by giving people a reason to actually watch what’s on here once instead of clicking on a home page to see the same stale videos. Sometimes less is more, if content is good, quick, and funny no one needs the special effects. So far the pattern has been Video..long wait, followed by an excuse, longer wait then finally a Video, then recycle on a bi-monthly basis. Nothing wrong with taking ones time by 1.5-2months to add content is an insanely long time. To put the TSE in the forefront there HAS to be regular content, even if it’s just uploading or linking things you find interesting and leave a simple comment about like “hey guys I just found this out, isn’t this crazy!?” Even that keeps viewers engaged and wanting to stop by to find out what news stuff you have up.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lina.jones.142 Lina Jones

Hey, we understand, Spoons. I recall you talking about this before when trying to find an editor a year or so back, but I guess that didn’t work out.

Whilst I think there are plenty that can edit “as well,” the real problem is finding an editor who matches your style and knows you well enough to be able to edit your videos to your liking and is geographically close enough to transfer files/physically sit down and work with you on the same piece of equipment for what I assume is probably not the most lucrative pay. A hard combination to find. Obviously, if you have to supervise someone else’s work throughout the whole process, you may as well do it yourself anyway.

    • buzzNact

I liked it when you spaced out your final fantasy reviews over the course of the year. Take however long you want dude, it gives use something to look forward to, and something to getting excited about you you do post it.

I like most of your other projects anyways… also do part 2 of Deadly Premonition damn it! :P

Well played Spoony, well played indeed.

  • Jayden Reynolds

For all those confused about the music:

One wonders if this scene in Dredd was an homage to that scene in Cowboy Bebop.

I’m so happy you put this up I thought I was the only one seeing the Dredd/Beebop similarities in the scene and while it made me happy it was damned difficult to explain :)

  • Turcano

So I’m guessing Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin'” would have been too obvious.

  • MikeBester

I miss the times when Spoony did Lets Plays. SWAT, Phantasmagoria, FMV hell in general was so much fun.

  • http://twitter.com/Das_Bass Das_Bass

I know you’re not an anime fan and I can respect that, knowing that you at least know how fun and awesome Cowboy Bebop is. I’ve been a fan of yours for a long time now. Since my last year of high school to now as I get ready for Air Force training. I’ve seen that SWAT let’s play so many times along with many of your videos. When ever I’m in a mad mood or upset I have this place I can go to and watch a video to cheer up a bit. You got me though that god awful hurricane that ruined everything ( once we had power and food again) If it takes till next month then let it be. If you like to have other videos come out, go for it. I’m sure it will turn out funny. The Ring video might be one of the best I’ve seen since The Cage review and my personal fav being Mases and monsters. =D

  • Skelemelon

No “The Ring: Terror’s Realm” squish sound at the end?

  • smek2

    Uhm, spoiler?!

  • Godmars

    • LotusPrince

The video is called “Dredd in 5 seconds.” I’d be surprised if there were no spoilers.

  • http://twitter.com/MichaelJGleason Michael G

I will say two things. One is a joke the other is my opinion. First, I’m calling bullshit on this video, it was more than 5 seconds long. Second, I respect Spoony for at least pointing out that he knows that the videos are coming out slow, and that’s the best thing he can do. He’s telling us why, which is pretty admirable.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Renaud-Guilbert/763340650 Renaud Guilbert

This… could have used a spoiler warning.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rowan-Anderson/691192822 Rowan Anderson

I don’t understand why some people are getting so hett up about the lack of updates, considering it’s basically free entertainment. As for saying what you would want if you had donated, well, that’s an entirely hypothetical situation isn’t it, considering you haven’t and therfore won’t receive what you would have if you had…my head hurts.
Anyway, I really don’t mind waiting longer for a video when I’m sure it’s hell contending with FFXIII and it’s vast amount of squalid rubbish. I just hope you are taking enough time away from working to try and have some fun as well! Don’t overwork yourself just because you think your fans will abandon you if you don’t. I’ve been watching you for years now and I still check your site every day to look out for new videos, but I do not curse your name when I don’t see anything new. In all honesty I usually stick on an older video that I really liked instead just to fill the time until the next (much awaited) FFXIII vid.
I do agree with some of the other comments thought that you don’t need to create something spectacular for every video; I really love Counter Monkey and the film reviews fresh from the cinema because we seem to have a very similar taste (and attention to detail) in films and so I use your reviews as a sort of film suckage barometer. I find it most entertaining when you just talk quite a lot of the time :)
Don’t let the stress get to you (I know, easy for me to say, but I hope you can) and can’t wait for the next video when it comes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rowan-Anderson/691192822 Rowan Anderson

It’s from the anime ‘Cowboy Bebop’. I think the song is called Green Bird or something like that

  • MikeBester

I dont really mind the amount of videos, but the quality. The last videos seem so “forced” as someone described it. In your earlier videos it was just you playing a quirky game and commenting on funny / bad situations. Now you endlessly circle around one minor point.

Best example I can come up with is the “Dalad Jelly”-part from “The Ring”, where you screeched for like 10min “OH MY GAWD PLEASE EXPLAIN OH PLEASE WTF OH MY GAWD”. All I could think there was “yeah we get it Spoony, now please move on”.

And as Rowan Anderson under me said, your videos dont have to be so “spectacular”. On of your best stuff was the Phantasmagoria series, were you just set down an played. Thats true for other reviewers as well. One of Linkaras best videos was the Elite Force 1 Lets Play, he just sat down, played, and made up comments on the go. In contrast all the more recent videos by him were has storylines, “characters”, just suck in my opinion.

  • WilHiteWarrior

That was way more than 5 seconds :P

  • http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/cornbredx/ CornBRED-X

I really liked Dredd. Cant really tell what you thought of it from this. So, you sum up the movie with it’s ending? Or am I misunderstanding the way these work?

These “5 second videos” (in quotes because they aren’t actually 5 seconds) are confusing sometimes haha. Like the twitter version of videos.

  • Jdenn

Nice Reference to Cowboy Bebop, Wish I still had mins so I could watch it. But Take your time Spoony, we will all be here awaiting your videos and watching your sight like a hawk.

    • JackRyan

Unfortunatly no. According to Alexa stats his site visits have declined significantly…

  • http://twitter.com/sudburymagician James Thomas

    That wasn’t 5 seconds…
Or was it 5 seconds on Slo-Mo?

(and screw the Spoiler-Haters… that scene was practically in the damn trailer)

    • CaptainDingaling

Yeah, because all movies show their ending in the TRAILER!

      • Testsubject909

I don’t remember what the Dredd 3D trailer was so I can’t say for that one. But yeah, there are movies out there whose trailer basically give you the entire story, punchlines and ending of their movie.

That said though. Spoiler warnings would be appreciated for those who didn’t see the movie. And for those who were spoiled. Go check out the movie nonetheless. Knowing the ending doesn’t take away from the fun ride… Plus there’s the other half of that ending that’s not exactly talked about that you’ll still be wondering about since you have no context for her shining bracelet thingy.

        • PeaTearGryfin

I just re-watched the Dredd 3D trailer and yes it is another movie that gives away its whole story in the trailer. Hell, this scene is actually in the trailer. I”m with ya though that knowing how the movie ends really doesn’t spoil the movie that much.

          • CaptainDingaling

And what makes you think everyone saw the trailer or bothers to watch a trailer before the movie? How would you even know what scene you’re looking at if you never saw the movie? That’s how Trailers work. The show you glimpse and not the entire movie. Name and link one trailer that has done that and not some BS.

          • PeaTearGryfin

            A. You completely missed the point of that conversation. What we were saying is that it shouldn’t be that big a deal that somebody posts a scene from a movie when even the guys who promoted the movie wanted to sell that scene to you as a way to go see the movie. We were also talking about how a person interested in the movie shouldn’t take it as a deterrent because the rest of the movie was good. At no point did we talk about how widely are trailers viewed.

            B. I really shouldn’t even do this just because you are trying to counter an argument that was never made, but you want just one movie that gives away a bulk of the plot in the trailer. Here I’ll give you several:
            Forrest Gump: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdsMqRaz2WY
            Frost/Nixon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lP_l2IFiQzs

You forgot the most blatant one Soylent Green: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsVQPsiwkBI

        • CaptainDingaling

Not everyone watches trailers and this isn’t just part of the story it’s the ending of it. It’s what you sit down for 1:hr 30minutes and pay good money to see. I haven’t seen a trailer yet that showed the “entire ending of a story” that must be one long Minute worth of previews.

    • CaptainDingaling

This scene wasn’t in the trailer, it doesn’t even hint that this happens. Stop lying.

      • Pétur Ingi Sigbjörnsson

Try watching the trailer first. Then you can claim that people are lying to you.

      • http://twitter.com/sudburymagician James Thomas

Wow, that’s a lot of passion for a throwaway comment.

The trailer does have the shot of Dredd throwing someone out of the window and the shot from Mama’s perspective of him as she falls

  • yasar ali

Everyone has their Spoony preference. My is Lets Play or Lets watch spoony vids..

  • LotusPrince

Clearly Spoony is the one and only internet reviewer a lot of the commenters here watch. Guys, you CAN watch other people while waiting for Spoony to turn out one of his reviews. This stuff certainly doesn’t happen overnight, as you’re well aware, but any time there’s a wait, everyone here loses his shit.

    • Pétur Ingi Sigbjörnsson

Well i mostly come here because of the commentators some of them are just brilliant. but i do go to Blistered Thumbs a lot. BTW what Let’s Play are you doing next?

      • LotusPrince

You know, that’s a good point about the commentators. :-D

As for what LP I’m doing next, that’s easy. I beat Penumbra Overture, so the next two are Penumbra Black Plague and Penumbra Requiem. As a matter of fact, the first installment of Black Plague goes up tonight!

But that’s if you follow the “recent blogs” on the bottom of the front page of TGWTG. If you see my stuff on the Blistered Thumbs homepage, then the next LP to come after Silent Hill: Homecoming will be Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lina.jones.142 Lina Jones

Whilst I don’t follow as many people as I used to, I have to second this. There are like fifty cajillion reviewers on the net these days, and at least a handful of them are just as quality as Spoony, if not more.

Except for Lotus Prince. That guy sucks.

Oh, hai, Lotus Prince, when you did you get here?

I kid, I kid, butt seriously, funny to see you comment here, I was just watching some of your Silent Hill stuff. Good times. ;)

SPOILER ALERT: Judge Dredd kills the main baddie.

There, now you all know, cuss … DREDD was such a complex film, I expected it’s ending to be so ambiguous … sigh, you people.

    • Atmos_Duality

      Best response to the “Spoilers”.
“Judge Dredd kills the antagonist” is about as nuanced and unpredictable as the story of any given Super Mario game.

    • CaptainDingaling

“Judge Dredd kills the main baddie.”

I think we all know the good guy gets the bad guy, that doesn’t mean we want you to SHOW us the ending of a film before we even watch it. You seem to think backwards…Do you watch all your movies in reverse too? Do you want the guy at the ticket booth to tell you the ending of a movie you just paid $16.95 to see? This is the main climax of the film and it was an assholish thing to do by showing it assuming everyone wanted the highlight of the film to be ruined for them.

  • Aodhan O’Leary

  • Carteeg_Struve

    I hope that’s not a hostage.

  • LotusPrince

The villain getting thrown out of a window? This has NEVER happened before. And I thought that Dredd was going to lose, and the movie would be over.

    • EvilPoet85

Do you really think I can’t figure out the ending to an action movie? I would just have liked a small spolier alert in the description and everything would have been fine. and when I finally get to see this movie, not knowing the excatct way the villian dies would make my movie experince much better. and by the way I’m not the only one complaining about the lack of spoiler alert on this one so just stop the sarcastic replies thank you.

      • LotusPrince

It’s called “Dredd in five seconds.” I know that not everyone follows the formula, but when I see that title, I expect to see some sort of summation of the entire movie in five seconds. To have no spoilers would be a bit of a surprise.

        • EvilPoet85

Usually the five seconds thing is just a random clip that sums op the movie (like a short trailer) so I figured it would’nt hurt to give it a watch, but I did not expect a 75 sec slowmo of what was clearly the ending. Putting that up without at least a small spoiler alert in the describtion was I thought pretty lame.
So I dont get why you’re still trying to defend it, but I guess it’s because you were’nt the one that had an ending ruined.

          • LotusPrince

It may have been the ending, but despite being 75 seconds, it was all a single moment. It’s not like there was plot exposition. The big bad fell out of a window, as is the case with a bunch of other movies (usually from decades ago, come to think of it).

I do plan on seeing this movie, but I’m not bothered that this is the clip I saw. The Cowboy Bebop trope apparently never gets old, and it’s not like I thought that the bad guy would win, and I had a twist ruined, or something. The only thing this clip showed me that I didn’t know was precisely how the bad guy went down.

          • EvilPoet85

Look, all I’m saying is that I would have liked a little spolier alert so I would have had the choice of not seeing how exactly this moment played out, but you keep pushing the issue that I really should have seen it comming. That is not the point. Just beacuse the ending is predictable, and is used in other movies does’nt change the fact that it takes away from a movie if the ending is known in advance. and it’s not like I ever thought the bad guy would win so just stop suggesting that.

To sum it up, if your going to show me any ending to any movie, old or new predictable or not, its just common courtesy to warn with a spolier alert first.

Thats my opinion. you might not agree, but you’re also entitled to your opinion.
Now stop kicking this dead horse by replying. I really got better things to do than trying to explain why I dont like my endings spoiled. Goodbye

          • LotusPrince

Haven’t seen the movie? Don’t want to be spoiled? Don’t watch a “this entire movie in five seconds” video.

          • EvilPoet85

As I told you before usually these 5 sec things dont spoil anything because for the most part they’re just out of context clips, most trailers show even more. and I’ve seen tons of 5 sec bits that literally is just a 5 sec bit and dont spoil anything. Thats why I was slighty pissed off when a 75 sec ending to a movie I’m interested in, but just havent got around to watch yet was shown without the smallest spoiler alert. My God what part of that dont you get?

Now please go troll someone else’s comments, beacuse this is getting old real fast.

  • http://koolthingzzz.blogspot.com Thom_Not_Tom

Count me in as one of the people who wants to see more vlogs. A lot of my favorite Spoony stuff is unscripted (I re-listened to the Rocky podcast he did with Brad awhile ago and it’s still awesome), so I would have no issue with some vlogs as placeholders between scripted videos.

    Also, Dredd was awesome.

  • http://www.facebook.com/LowBrassDude Lee Anderson

Are we really going to make another Spike falling out of a tall building joke? Really? It wasn’t funny the first time, and it’s not funny here. And all that for another Armand Assante joke. You know what, good job, that’s why I keep coming back to this sight, for recycled jokes that have gotten really old, and the hammering in that Spoony hates certain things and only likes certain things. Time to get new material, and not in the form of random sign over a cafeteria in a bad horror game.

    • http://www.facebook.com/lina.jones.142 Lina Jones

To be fair, every joke becomes done to death within thirty seconds of reaching the internet.

I’m not gonna lie, when Spoony and TGWTG were over I was a bit glad because this is the kind of stuff they always did there and it was annoying. Like take one joke that was never all that funny if at all and then run it into the ground over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, and then recycle it through the entire roster over and over and over and over again so it’s in everyone’s videos so you can see the same never funny joke over and over and over and over and over again. “Of Course”, “Zuel MotherF#$@ker”, “The LAWWW” and pick any scene from “The Room”. The Gate Keeper used to be my favorite part in Ghostbusters… not anymore.

    Two words haters

Sorry guys but as people get older, they change. It’s unlikely he’ll go back to being his old self. If you don’t like his stuff THEN FIND SOMETHING ELSE.

Still not enough? Watch this vid…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmJTZsnuzuQ

“Free Content” still brings in the ad revenue (or rather it better do; bills don’t pay themselves) and has to compete with OTHER free content, most of which is from guys that have an actual schedule.

If you think this makes me a hater (forgetting some little facts like “I still enjoy his output”), then so be it.

      • Erebus_Locke

+++ I just cant understand why someone is now a “HATER!!!” when he is disappointed with something and voices this opinion.

Im massivly disappointed that Spoony has abandoned his Lets Plays and FMV Hell videos, and I say that as much as I can because maybe Spoony reads it and thinks “Hm I could try another one of those”.

        Whats “hating” about that?

        • doresh

This is what happens if people only speak in absolutes. Did nobody learn anything from Episode III XD ?!

          • Pétur Ingi Sigbjörnsson

Why can i only think about this video with the word hater beeing tosed around so much.

          • doresh

If arguments on the internet were only half as good as

“I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream”…

          • Pétur Ingi Sigbjörnsson

…then the solutions to all the worlds problems would be on this tread.

          • doresh

But it’s sadly leaning more towards eternal torment.

        • Atmos_Duality

Well, you see. With TSE, you’re either a “Hater” or a “Cocksucker”.
          There is no middle ground.
And don’t even think about Constructive Criticism!
          That’s communist nonsense.

Wow, taking a look at the comment section right now… yeah, I think about 90% of you need to read this article. As in, right now.

    • Pétur Ingi Sigbjörnsson

Well I think you don’t realize that most people just don’t care and throwing that article out there in the middle of this shit-storm that is this thread will just feed the trolls that live under the bridge known as The Spoony Experiment.

Anyways people always believe themselves to be in the right if they have set their minds to it and found others that share that idea, until they get what they wanted or the whole scenario plays through.

Remember that the word “Fan”derives from the word “Fanatic” and fanaticism well just read this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanaticism

Let’s just agree that Spoony has a few “Fans”

  • Ibexfather

The site is free, the content comes when it’s ready. I’m sick of the argument that since people are willing to pay for regular content, Noah should deliver regular content as if they actually were paying. It makes no sense. What makes you think wanting to buy his time should guilt him into working faster for free?
Let’s say once a month I make sandwiches and give them to all the people I know, for free. Then some prick eats a sandwich and says I should do this every week, not every month. I say I can’t do that. I only have the time and resources to do it once a month. He say’s he’d be willing to pay because he LOVES the sandwiches and whatever. Doesn’t matter. It’s the provider’s decision at what rate to provide, and at what cost. Noah had chosen an admittedly infrequent content output, in exchange for being free and well made.
The attitude of “I’d be willing to pay, therefore I should have more right now.” is ridiculous. Whether you’d be willing to pay for more content is totally irrelevant to the issue. You can’t pay, you can only wait like the rest of us. If you think he’s too slow, that’s fine. In fact, I agree that he takes a while. I also think his videos have the most effort of all the people I watch. That’s the trade. There is no money involved in this exchange, only time.

    • doresh

Do you also get ad revenue for your sandwiches?

      • Ibexfather

I fail to see how that’s relevant. Again, the argument is about time, frequency of content, not money.

        • Atmos_Duality

Fact: Without ad-hits, this site will not remain online as time goes on.
Spoony has living expenses, and hosting costs money.
So I think that makes them very relevant.

You might choose to wait, but the rest of world sure as Hell isn’t.

The simple fact is that the low rate of new content is obviously hurting TSE regardless of any other argument you want to make (his Alexa ratings are in freefall).

          • Pétur Ingi Sigbjörnsson

            You know whats funny?

That since the firestorm that is this thread started his traffic has increased. He’s making ad revenue of all these complaints, granted its not as much as he was making 3 months ago (what then about 3 years ago) but i just find it funny that it is has been picking up for the last 5 days, and the Alexa rating for the site is actually better than the ratings one year ago.

Just after looking at those numbers I think leaving TGWTG was one of the better things that happened to him.

Check the ratings before throwing that statement in the end.

But i still think that lack of content is hurting the site.

          • Atmos_Duality

Controversy draws attention; far more than mediocrity.

        • doresh

Being a good internet Samaritan providing free entertainment is fine and dandy, but bills and servers don’t pay themselves.

Also, making these videos takes a little more time and more expensive equipment than sandwiches.

      • Spectr

You can cocksuck as much as you want, but the fact remains: Spoony has lost A LOT of site visitors. And with no visitors no ad revenue, and with no ad revenue no Spoony.

Maybe he should start listen to his fans who criticise him, and not to his fanboys who praise him for every turd he drops. Because this way there wont be a TSE in ~ two years.

        • rainyvancouver

Thanks for speaking the hard truth. If Spoony had a regular job he could do what he wants on here, but this IS his only source of income, so he should listen to feedback.

In my opinion thats his biggest flaw: ZERO communication with his fans. No feedback, nothing. He spams on his Twitter account with 50 unfunny inside-jokes a day, but no actual discussions about his projects. That he apologized in this thread was the only time I have ever seen him in the comments.

          • JackRyan

Dont forget the insults. If you dare to criticise him on Twitter he becomes Internet-Tough-Guy.

          • Atmos_Duality

Yeah…Spoony doesn’t take criticism very well.

But at the same time, most people fail at providing USEFUL criticism.

In dealing with such a polarized internet public for so long, it makes sense to either ignore them almost entirely, or develop an attitude.

And so we end up with this problem where everyone is either a “Fanboy” or a “Cocksucker”; the internet hate machine polarizes us.

TotalBiscuit did a video that addresses that pretty well.

Most people will put real effort into insulting people and padding out the amount of obscenities in their post, but no effort into their actual criticisms, or WHY they are bitching.

Really. I’m not expecting the Internet to become a better place (“Haters gonna hate”), but we should at the very least try to realize why we’re bitching.

          • Pétur Ingi Sigbjörnsson

Well who would have guessed it?

Some one that actually seems to see both sides of this flame-war, and on top of that actually percents a legitimate argument on both sides on this forum.

I guess that duality for ya.

You made my day, I kind of wish i could buy you a drink.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mitchell-Bandes/100001750373297 Mitchell Bandes

The fact that you can’t even sling insults unless you have a handle to hide behind speaks volumes about your character.

      • Pétur Ingi Sigbjörnsson

If you want to get a positive feed back from that link try to put it in your own words and put it in the forums or at least get one that actually puts it in a quick and easy to read format.

And yes I have read it, but throwing a cracked link up in a middle of a firestorm on a forum has never(OK, rarely) gotten a good feedback, and an article with a lot of sarcasm is kind of a double-sided blade in any forum.

Try to read the article and rephrase it and cut it down to more digestive bits so it fits the given scenario and then post it in your words.

      • Atmos_Duality

That Cracked article you keep using may explain why people act like entitled brats, but it does not excuse such behavior either.

The simple fact is that the complaints matter an awful lot less than the loss of viewers and ad-hits. The silent majority will pressure Spoony into making more videos far better than any whiny entitled fanboy.

  • Erik

Oh man I thought someone would make the video and I’m glad it was Spoony the song just suits it so well.
