So why was the “OF COURSE!” bit at the end reversed?
Or is it my memory that’s reversed?

maybe they had a couple takes of it and was one they didn’t use? but I’m pretty sure you are correct and that was reversed from the ‘Of Course’ that was in the film

Kickassia fucking sucked. There, I said it. Nothing but a bunch of talentless, out of shape losers running around and screaming. Isn’t it ironic when a bunch of so called “critics” make a movie that offers even less entertainment value than all that shit that they usually review?

P.S I also have a secret, completely non-homoerotic man crush on Spoony. That’s why I visit this site anyway.

Someone finally said it. Yes, unfortunately it’s true.

I couldn’t even bring myself to watch past 3 minutes of it. It was embarrassing, despite featuring a few people I really like. And about 50 I don’t. Can someone explain why Handsome Tom is liked by anyone? Uncharismatic Tom. And they have some beef with Stuttering Craig who at least has a personality. But I digress, not really bothered about that whole thing, just bemused by the mystery of Handsome Tom.

It’s how you say it though. Nothing wrong with hating the production, just don’t be a jackass about it. I didn’t see his comment, but sourt below wasn’t censored and he stated his case well and respectfully….so I can only imagine what troll-boy above said.

He basically told anyone who didn’t agree with him “You’re full of shit”. Technically that was in another comment, but you get the idea.

Yeah, Kickassa was really bad. It might have been fun for you guys, but it should have stayed inside. I know it took a lot of effort and pain, but apart from a few lines and parts of acting, it was really low level. I think TGWTG thinks too highly of himself. Kickassa felt as if he believed he is a genius of comedy, and doesn’t need to put effort into his writing…

      • dennett316

Well comedy is very subjective, I just know that I got more entertainment out of that production that cost peanuts than any of the shit that those Epic Movie douchebags ever produced for millions of dollars. A shame you didn’t like it, but I didn’t find the writing on Doug’s part to be particularly lazy or anything…can you expand on this a little?

It’s true. I couldn’t even get through this ad without wincing, and they expect me to pay money for Kickassia? To give it as a gift? I’d rather give my friends and family Highlander 2: The Quickening. At least that had real actors in it and wasn’t just a big pile of in-jokes and self-congratulatory back-slapping.

I liked Kickassia, sure it wasn’t LOTR, but hey, it was funny nonetheless, and it was for fun, I can buy that, I’m not saying it sucked because, let’s see, they have NO BUDGET, they are BY NO MEANS Hollywood Directors/Producers/Actors… But It was hilarious! Far more entertaining than the films that came out during this time period…

While I will admit, this is no Citizen Kane, it is a movie that does exactly what it sets out to do. This is a parody of all the Epic hero movies that have come out lately, and it is better doen that any of the Zucker films ever were. The reason this Parody is so go it because the Actors were taking this film seriously, or as seriously as they could. I would rank this movie up there with Rocky Horror and to an extent, Plan 9 from Outer Space (if only for how cleanly edited the film actually was) as a cult classic in the making. I’m sure in about 35 years therer will be beole dressign like Spoony and Linkara and Even the Nostalgia Critic and acting otu the movie live on stage.

Rocky Horror? I think you’re a bit delusional. Rocky Horror had great music, great acting, amusing plot, and actual production value. This video has about as much production value as my High School spanish movie. Not to mention next to none of the people involved could act to save their lives. It resembles the type of movie you make with friends in the summer and laugh about as an inside joke

Some people here may find the movie funny because you know the people involved and its funny to see them all together, but the movie on its own legs is… its just bad. If you didn’t know who the Nostalgia Chick was, her impersonation wouldn’t have been cute or amusing, just annoying. And the Nostalgia Critic just came across as an annoying ass almost the entire time. You had to wade through piles of awkward dialogue to get to any amusing bits.

BUT, it was amazing that they pulled it off in that short amount of time, with the stuff they did have. Its a nice thing for the fans, but no, it will not become Rocky Horror.

      • http://twitter.com/CedarMusketeer Bryan Gardner

I must say, that was a much nicer comeback that the first person (Who’s comment was removed by the forum mod) gave me. All I can say is, time will tell. Rocky Horror is only funny because of the bad acting in it. The movie was actually meant to be a serious horror movie, but thanks to bad writing, terrible production budget and way over the top acting from at the time total unknowns (Well except for Meatloaf, he was a well known singer), it became a cult classic.

I will admit, I may have gone a bit overboard with saying it will become a stage show in 35 years, but I think it will reach the same cult status of Rocky Horror, and Plan 9 from Outer Space in time.

    Already bought it.

And anyone who’s saying Kickassia fucking sucked…obviously doesn’t get the point. Of course it fucking sucked. Its awesome because we love these people and feel like we can relate to them. Its kind of like our own special little movie where we can say “Look even us little guys can do it too”. And its amazing it turned out as entertaining as it did given the time constraints. I am personally entertained every time I watch and ultimately, isn’t that what it’s all about?

  • http://twitter.com/Tim5000 Timmy 5000

I gotta say to all the people that hated Kickassia…. Why don’t you guys do something better. Kickassia is one of the reasons why I can’t hate these reviewers because they are not just a bunch of random people bitching behind a camera, they at least tried to make a movie. Is it as Good as a standard movie…. No. Is it better then some of the shit that has been in theaters, YES. Just to give a general idea, Movies sometimes will take months to complete, these guys did it in 4 days, with just above standard equipment, if you try comparing Kickassia to citizen kane you will always fall short, but if you take it as what it is, then it did its job and was done fairly well, better then 90% of the crap on youtube, and better then some of the major releases (Last air bender). It is not a gold mine, but it the price is right I would buy it.

    • Anonymous

So basically A for effort, and if you can’t do better, don’t criticize. I wonder what would happen if we applied that attitude to The Room, or Alone in the Dark? People worked hard on those movies too. Maybe if this was just a fanvideo made in someone’s spare time then you would have a leg to stand on, but it’s not. People are profiting off of this movie, they are selling it as quality entertainment worthy of my hard-earned dollars, and they are framing it as a serious full-length movie. You don’t get to sell a shoddy product for profit and still get indignant when people criticize it.

      • http://twitter.com/Tim5000 Timmy 5000

Don’t get me wrong, people can bash this movie to hell if they want, but looking at the comments, everyone is acting like it was a major done movie with all the time others have, when really all it is a internet series that didn’t even bother to take itself seriously. Looking at Kickassia as a major movie is a bit over the top, this was really just done to have fun and give the fans something to laugh at and about in good fun, I can almost bet on it, that most of the people who watched kickassia and liked it had the most to say against it, because nothing was really ment to be taken seriously with it, it had More then it’s fair share of problems, and the worst part is, the people complaining about it, are acting like they are forced to watch it, Almost everything on that DVD was posted on TGWTG, Cinema Snob, and even here, so in full honesty there is no reason to buy it.

        • Anonymous

Yes well I think his point was that Kickassia wasn’t all that good and eventhough it isnt a major movie, it’s a DVD release now. Most probably fans of TGWTG will buy it because they know/like/love the actors involved. I mean, we’ve seen reviewers rate much much lower quality videos then even Kickassia (hence how I came to know Uwe Bull) that legitimatized themselves in some way involving profit. Liking the movie ONLINE is one thing, actually spending money on something that wasn’t meant to be taken too seriously as if it were to be released in theaters near you is inheritly different. I think thats the factor most people gravitate towards.

          • http://twitter.com/xxDrCrackbone Matt

Maybe, but they made this film regardless of whether or not they were going to sell it (as with the Brawl video), and then sold it because the fans demanded it. Seriously, people were complaining that it wasn’t coming out soon enough. Give the people what they want!

    *Sigh* yeah… I think I’m gonna pass.

I mean no offense towards the people at TGWTG and I wish them all the best, but they’re really weighting you down I think. Nobody wants to say it out loud, but most of them really aren’t that funny and/or memorable at all, and you should have nothing to do with them, atleast not post their videos on *your* homepage.

I understand they’re your friends and you wanna do funny collabs with them and whatever, but you have a good thing going on here Spoony; you’re an amazing solo act and you don’t need anybody’s help. You have a large fanbase who are entirely devoted to you, not to the TGWTG. Just keep posting original content, that’s when you’re truly shining. It’s really alienating
to see a TGWTG video on your frontpage, because I can’t just help but to feel that it doesn’t deserve to be there nor does it belong. Y’know what I’m saying? :-/

I wish you luck with your future endeavors, and I hope to see more content from *you* in the near future. Cheers.

And the people of TGWTG are great. Sorry you don’t think so.

    • dennett316

What a weird, insular and bafflingly close-minded viewpoint you have there. Glad Spoony himself doesn’t think that way or I”d never have been introduced to Brad’s videos. Spoony is heavily involved in this production, why wouldn’t he promote it? You find it alienating? Jeez, I just can’t figure that kind of mentality out at all….do you ever try ANYTHING new or is it just a Spoony fixation and nothing else will do?
With all the diverse personalities reviewing all sorts of media through the TGWTG website, you honestly find nothing of worth and consider them all beneath Spoony? Your whole comment is just really creepy and unsettling…

Linkara (well really, if your into sci-fi geekiness then his plots are abit intriguing,) sometimes on and off NC (all impersonations included.) ummm…. Obscurius Lupus (For sticking to the roots of the comedy NC had before all those freakin reoccuring Chuck Norris jokes.) Phelous (on and off) and DEFINATELY Cinema Snob with his brand of entertainment and hell some of the best risque jokes I’ve really heard or reheard of. So TGWTG isn’t ALL bad, especially considering the Cinema Snob has almost a very odd relation towards Spoony’s jokes in how they reference the obscure and aren’t afraid to touch black humor in its deepest depths without being rehashes of the samething. Infact, nearly worlds apart aside from the obscurity, depth of black humor, and the sometimes eccentric (ranging to flamboyant) egos displayed.

    • http://twitter.com/CedarMusketeer Bryan Gardner

While I do disagree with your point of view, I respect your opinion. You made a well written and clear argument of your opinion, unlike some of the others on this site have. Now if you may, I shall give you my counterpoint to your opinion in an equally respectful manner.

I do not believe TGWTG is weighing Spoony down, in fact I believe they have helped him expand his horizons. When Spoony started out, he was just writing reviews for his own site, when TGWTG found his Final Fantasy 8 rant and thought he would make a good edition to the site. Thanks to TGWTG, Spoony’s fan base has expanded. I for one only discovered Spoony while browsing the TGWTG web site.

I will say the best thing to come from Spoony joining the Channel Awesome crew would be his meeting with Linkara. The two of them helped to cultivate Dr Insano, as well as the Black Lantern Spoony that is currently becoming a threat in the Final Fantasy X review.

In short, I don’t think TGWTG weighs Spoony down, but helps him to excel. He has become one of the main supportign pillars of the site, along side Doug(The Nostalgia Critic) Walker and Lewis (Linkara) Lovhaug.

I think I’ll wait for the Blue Ray in 3D with a riff from Tommy Wisseau

I’m going to give my 2 cents on Kickassia though, given how everybody else is either loving or hating it. Initially I thought it was a pile of crap, probably because my mindset on this site is to watch movies and hate them (much as Spoony wishes us to). The hype from this movie was massive and after the shock and awe of the first brawl’s trend setting, it would take something akin to Dark Knight to obliterate all complaints.

I didn’t like the writing, I felt some characters were over-used and others comparitively underused. The cameo obsession had by now gone insane (and still is. Spoony popping up in the Hudson Hawk review was just fucking stupid) and from episode one I had a fear this was a pure vanity project for Doug Walker.

Yet by the end of Kickassia I came away from it happy. I’d seen some hillarious jokes (Joe shooting the fence, It’s Time! Nostalgia Chick’s Sarah Palin, Cinema Snob in everything, Board James, Santa Christ and his reincarnation, and Phelous’s imminent nervous breakdown) and was glad the Channel Awesome crew would put this together for us. Spoony says it right in the making of documentary that the logistics, scheduling, conditions, and budget were hell, and for it to all come together so smoothly is a credit to each cast member involved. Most of my criticisms were proven wrong and I hope the guys wont be deterred from something like this in another year or two’s time. I just hope the cameo-gasm calms down to stop such large scale collabs being devalued in the future.

And best of all, this Kickassia DVD is probably guarenteed to contain no fucking cock blocking Aussie =D

If you guys do something next year, I hope it’s better than this. I mean nice job doing it in the time you did with the budget you had, but bigger isn’t always better. I had more fun watching Phelous and Cinema Snob’s Troll 4 ‘review’ than Kickassia itself.

    • Anonymous

I agree. Try something a little more subdued… I dunno, like the Clerks of TGWTG that’s just you all playing off each other’s styles and wit and less on the effects that, let’s face it, you guys don’t have the budget or tech to pull off.

No offense to you personally or to anyone at tgwtg, but I think this is one of the unfunniest things I’ve ever seen. I find no entertainment in it whatsoever.

But props for the effort of production anyways, coming together and doing this stuff is always awesome regardless.

Kickassia was brilliant. I have always loved the crossovers between TGWTG crew, especially if they involve Spoony, but otherwise too.

you know, it’s great, I guess, that so many of you don’t like the Kickassia thing but, Spoony liked it, HE enjoyed it, HE wants to promote the hard work HE and other members of TGWTGs did.

Fine, you don’t like it, don’t buy it.

If you listen to SPOONY’s cometary of Kickassia you’ll hear him say how much he enjoyed the work they did.

What, he’s supposed to not share that because some of you didn’t like the movie?

And yes, I know, you’ll tell me you’re “expressing your opinion” and hey, that’s fine, I’m expressing mine. It’s one thing to not like Kickassia but some of the comments are down right insulting to Spoony and the other people he works with.

    You know, his friends?

I’m not planning to get Kickassia at all. Personally, I don’t mind crossovers once in a while but TGWTG goes WAY WAY too far now about this and in the end, while Kickassia give a certain degree of entertainment, it had a great share of flaws ranging from character presentation to terrible flaws. Before I go into deeper details, I have something to put out of the way because there’s crazy fanboys everywhere.

I want to point out to whoever has the mentality of “Why don’t you make better?” that they’re freaking idiots. You’re complaining about people who makes their business on criticizing things. Don’t you understand how retarded this is? Anyway, back to Kickassia…

… Like I was saying, I thought it delivered in entertainment but it suffered from several cliches, things that were too predictable and severe lack of logic at certain moment not to mention poor presentation of the personality of some characters, most notably Dr. Insano. The worst part of it? Well, the Santa Christ part was horrible due to how repetitive it was which is a common gimmick Doug likes to use and at first it was funny but now, really, get over it. The ending itself was rather subpar but the WORST OF THE WORST was when freaking Santa Christ came back to teach them a lesson of moral and such. Its fairly harmless in itself BUT THEY DID THEY EXACT SAME THING WITH THE ANNIVERSARY BRAWL! Not just that but with the 2nd Warriors comic review which was great but it ended THE SAME WAY like it did in the previous one.

Really? I like some of the TGWTG contributors but are the people in charge of scripts that bankrupt in creativity? Seriously, these people needs to get over the whole crossover videos. Its harmless once in a while but 50 billions time during the damn year is freaking ridiculous.

  • Anonymous

Jesus…. you dont get it, do you? To celebrate their anniversary, they made something for us, while having lot of fun themselves. What do you do when you celebrate? Get shitfaced? Original ….

Instead of enjoying all the crossovers which wouldnt be possible without Kickassia, you bitch and whine about how it sucked….

Yeah it wasnt the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Why shouldnt Spoony promote it? He enjoyed it, he is part of the TGWTG and most of all, its his site. If you dont like it, just skip this video and dont buy it, whats the problem? Or are you so miserable that you have to attack something without any reason to do so?

    • http://twitter.com/catboyjeremie Jeremie

So its not okay to complain or dislike something made by people that are popular by complaining and disliking stuff? Right…

      • http://twitter.com/xxDrCrackbone Matt

This goes beyond mere disliking it. We got people insisting spoony leave TGWTG because its “weighing him down”, people telling others they’re full of shit if they don’t believe them, etc.

      • Anonymous

Well maybe you should take a class or two in reading comprehension. I did not say any of that.

Matt is right. Some of these “critics” of Spoony putting up an add for a movie he played a large role in are getting down right vulgar. I made a post yesterday comparing Kickassia to Rocky Horror, and I think it is a fair comparison. Someone just left a one line vulgar comment and left it at that. All his comments were later removed, but still this is a small example of the rampant anger on this topic.

Some thing Spoony is whoring out his site to TGWTG, but if you were in a movie that was coming out on DVD, would you not want to push it out there so people could see you, even if your acting was dreadful? Honestly I’m surprised none of the others have put the ad on their sites yet.

So is hating Kickassia the new cool thing to do around here?

The comment sections on videos that aren’t made by Spoony are just sad. Not even sure why I bothered looking at the comments for this. Just makes me sad how selfish and elitist the Spoony community is. Most of you don’t deserve what Spoony gives you. Not liking it is one thing, but a couple of these comments are just disturbing.

    • http://twitter.com/catboyjeremie Jeremie

Selfish? This is the internet, there’s thousands of people that tries to entertain which TGWTG is rather competent at. It doesn’t mean we have to like all the stuff they do. You say such a thing but whatever the most popular contributors thrashes on TGWTG is stuff the fans will hate.

    • Anonymous

The unfortunate thing is Spoony is now fair game to that level of criticism after his explosion at the people who made the Ultimate Warrior game. I suppose the same can be said for WrestleWrestle (which I love!) in that complaints of people who put their body on the line also means you have little reason to hide behind sunstroke in the desert. You can’t give people both barrels and then consider yourself immune.

Two different comments now. Firstly, I hope the TGWTG crew respects the openness of some critique and decide not to live in bubbles of their own pride. Secondly, I hope the DVD sales go well and encourage those who love the DVD to buy it and support their favourite members of channel awesome. Though I was 50/50 on Kickassia and found it hit and miss, one major success of the movie was to show us the potential of its cast in terms of scope and production.

First off, I agree with everything you’ve said. I think constructive criticism and analysis of someone’s work is not only necessary for the growth and development of all forms of art and entertainment, but it encourages a good feedback system that the artist in question can rely on for opinions. But, I think a lot of the negativity towards criticism of Kickassia is more the fact that most of it is niggling insults, whining and petty trolling about people or shows the commenters don’t like, which not only puts everyone who was involved with Kickassia or likes it on defense, but overshadows the comments which did have some valid insight or critique (cause immediately when you say “I didn’t really like this because…” someone jumps on you and tries to beat you to death with their keyboard… metaphorically? (I think that analogy went wrong somewhere…)).

Furthermore I agree that if you’re critiquing a show, person etc. you have to be open for critique yourself when you are involved in something similar (especially with something like this that is ensemble, and hence you’ve got all these different people you have to integrate into one scenario). However, I don’t really think you can place some of the non-constructive criticism of Kickassia on the same level as Spoony’s criticism of the Deadliest Warrior and TNA, mostly because Kickassia was done on a really tiny budget and time scale with limited resources (and it was free to watch), while Deadliest Warrior, although produced by a small gaming company, was not well put-together and spoony’s criticism of it WAS legit (… but that said, you could probably argue for or against on this depending on your view of what the producers were aiming for and whether something on such a small budged SHOULD be critiqued, but that’s neither here nor there), and TNA is a TV show with a large budget that is being compared against other wrestling shows (and, to be fair, spoony gives credit where credit’s due for the good wrestling… when it occasionally occurs).

Yeeaaaah. So I guess I wrote all this just to say…err… I agree. Just putting forth my own 2 cents, I suppose.

        … I am far too sleep-deprived.

        • http://twitter.com/YigSnakeDaddy Paul K

So a 18 bucks movie is allowed to be of, let’s put it that way, questionable quality, but a game for 10 is not?

          • Anonymous

2 points of contention there. 1) I never said it wasn’t, and 2) You don’t have to pay 18 bucks to watch Kickassia. You HAVE to pay 10 to play Deadliest Warrior.

Kickassia was, for me anyway, 50/50, but it was an anniversary celebration where the production costs were low and the production time was small, and you can either take it or leave it however you like.

BUT if you’ll look at my comment, I didn’t say that Kickassia wasn’t to be questioned. In fact, I said that constructive criticism was HEALTHY and necessary for growth. What I did say, though, was that most of the comments are insults and what amounts to hate-mail that doesn’t provide anything constructive and puts everyone on edge.

When Spoony criticised Deadliest Warrior, he played it, and took it apart piece by piece, analysing its faults. In the end, he admitted that there were low production costs involved, but that he’d seen games that had done more with less. His assessment: he pretty much hated it. And I’m not saying people aren’t free to hate Kickassia. If that’s your thing, go with it and live long & prosper for what it’s worth. But at least put in the time and attention to deconstruct it in the context and basis upon which it was founded.

Analyse, critique, take the product in context for what was behind it and what it was aiming for. That’s all I’m saying.

The only product that I can think of where there ISN’T this excuse is a novel. And on that point, STEPHANIE MEYER VIOLATED AN ENTIRE LITERARY GENRE AND DEMEANED AN ENTIRE FUCKING CONEPT AND AAAAAAAARRRRRRGH!!!!

            … Still sleep deprived.

Already ordered the special edition with the photo and lots and lots of neat things and bonuses. Really wished that it would include the commentaries and so it seems! Was worth every penny even if needed to pay extra $8 for international shipping.

I’m definitely considering purchasing this. I’m not sure if I’ll go for the special edition, but it just seems like something I would want to own.
