The Spoony One | Mar 22 2011 | more notation(s) |

While Dark Nella exacts her revenge on major cities and well-known landmarks of the United States, Lindsay takes a look back at the disaster movies of auteur, Roland Emmerich.

Oh cool, haven’t checked on NChick in some time

I hated her misguided Dune review so much that I decided I wouldn’t bother watching any more of her vids (Dune did suck despite being very entertaining, but some of her comments annoyed the hell out of me as a fan of the book). This is good though, I have to admit. I might check out more of her vids now.

You got to give her credit for actually reading the book in preparation for the review, not everyone likes the same things, ya know.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=753345456 Octo Seven

Nah I got the impression that she never read the book. I also felt that she was mocking Arthur C Clarke which, to me, being a fanboy of Arthur C Clarke, is annoying. “some people compare it to LOTR but god knows why”. That ‘some people’ was Arthur C Clarke and it was in reference to the book rather than the film. But anyway, that’s me being a nerd and defensive of my hero. I did like this review and will be sure to checkout her other stuff! Good lookin’ out spoony

Well she specifically mentioned how she hated the constant inner monologueing in the book. The whole point of the review was just how she just didn’t get it despite her best efforts XD

I don’t think she did. Maybe she skimmed the book’s tvtropes page, tops.

It really only works if you know one of her previous reviews was Fox’s animated X-Men. Luckily I saw that one.

I never really liked the Nostalgia Chick’s act, you know? I just find her boring and lifeless.

The Nostalgia chick’s review’s are decent and entertaining to watch. Showgirls was her best review and was the one I laughed the most at. I would have liked to see Spoony have a bigger role in this review then just a 10 second pop in. Overall though, this was an ok review. The nurse needed more camera time though. She is gorgeous!!!

Come on dude, isn’t it about time you put up a review or a V-Log or anything you’ve made yourself??? Disco Stu likes Disco Content.

I really do think the difference between Emmerich and Bay is their appreciation for the visual. Bay makes his films feel like one big trailer with all the fast cuts and what-not while Emmerich seems to have an appreciation for a long and powerful shot, say the wide shots of major cities getting flooded in 2012. Hell combine that directoral style with someone who writes worth a damn and you can get some pretty great movies. Heck, The Patriot was one of his better films probably because he didn’t write the script.

  • Anonymous

Really? You’re promoting Nostalgia Chick and her shitty little storyline? I am sick of people doing this shit, it’s like reading bad fanfictions, only now we get to see them instead of read them.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/SR554ASYPHW7XFNV3LE5DND3KA Wei JieSoh

This reminds me of RLM’s reviews without the pizza rolls, the psychotic murdering and the locking up of people in basements. I do appreciate her attempt in explaining why Emmerich’s movies are a turn off for her, never mind that some say that it sounds like an essay being read out.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alexei-Averchenko/1115057555 Alexei Averchenko

RLM reviews made sense, focused on concrete examples while illustrating the bigger picture, and made their point clear. NChick just lumps together rants she borrows from others together with unfunny and forced skits.

NC is OK and kinda cute (even though she got a little…chubbier), but the other two girls just annoy me.

Apart from that, don’t you think that you are going a little overboard with the ads? :-/

Not a Nostalgia Critic fan or anything (hell, this is the first video I’ve watched), but her voice is beautiful. Made it all the more enjoyable. Though I would advice her to steer away from pigtails. I guess I’m biased, though; I would advice everyone to do so. It looks silly and childish, in my opinion. She would look more beautiful with her hair in any other way, I’m sure.

I’m glad she mentioned the surfer and palm tree thing. Although it does annoy me that the only city that exists in California is LA. And all we do is surf. I don’t even know how to boogie board…(although yes, pretty much anyone can learn how to body surf. But that’s different.) But anyway, it’s just annoying that Orange County and San Diego don’t exist, when we get better waves. -_- Toootally off topic now. Don’t know what the plot part of the review was about, but the review itself was good ^^

Her teeth look nice in this video, it looked like she had smokers teeth when i saw her back in the day on critic’s website.

Hitchcock made the same movie over and over again? Ummm no. Psycho, North by Northwest, Vertigo, Topaz, Strangers on a Train, The Birds, Marnie, The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Wrong Man. Hitchcock excelled at a variety of genres and different types of film. While the tone of some of the movies may have been similar, to say all his films were the same is flat-out false. If you want to say he cast Jimmy Stewart too much though, I might agree. They were like the original Scorcese/DiCaprio combo. :p

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=753345456 Octo Seven

I’m a Hitchcock fan myself and I agree that it’s is a bit excessive to say he made the same film over and over again, he’d been making films since the silent era; however, he did tend to play on the same emotional strings in all of his later movies, despite different locations and storylines; even Alejandro Jodorowsky said the same thing about Hitchcock.

Man, I really am starting to dislike the nostalgia chick, it just seems like the reviews are lodged between one huge ego massage, and some unfunny, uninteresting, uninspired mess of the reviewers in this “group” trying to make an interesting story when its not, its really not. Noone asked for this, yet it continues, just stop before it gets out of hand.

On a side-note, I find it kind of strange that she has such a go at other movies when she really can’t do anything better, in fact, it annoys me.

On a side-side note this review was really lack-luster, it felt like the nostalgia chick was just reading a list of what someone else said and was putting it into her own words with a dull monotonous voice. I didn’t finish this review.

But you don’t know that she can’t do any better. She hasn’t made a big budget movie…yet.

I liked it, even if it wasn’t one of her best. Plus more Doctor Tease can never be a bad thing

Honestly, I’ve never liked the Nostalgia Chick. I’m sure she’s nice, but her reviews are really boring. I’m not laughing, I’m not invested in it because I actually kind of liked some of these movies for the simple fact that they are mind numbing entertainment. Sure they are the same movie over and over again, but I’m not watching them for the plot, character development, or anything of that sort. I watch them because I want to see stuff I have seen in real life get destroyed. In the end, I only watched this review because it was on Spoony’s website and I knew he would be in it, so I hit play.

maybe one day Nostalgia Chick can do her part to dispel the perception that an assertive woman = bitch

Please don’t lecture us on gimmicky attention attracting stereotypes while wearing pigtails in a halter top.
