Nostalgia Critic MUSICAL Review: Moulin Rouge

The Spoony One | Nov 29 2011 | more notation(s) |

A film of this magnitude must be bitched about through song! (I’m in there! Really!)

  • Darkscar

that was…..words cant describe how awsome this review was!!! too bad spoony wasnt in more of it….but still, AMAZING!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

What the heck? XD How awesome is this?!

  • kade_varak

I lol’d so hard. Funniest NC vid in a while, plus some stellar singing. And the Spoony appearance gave me a good snortgiggle.

  • Callista Rowlett

Haha!  that’s gotta be one of your shortest appearances ever, lol!

    • Anonymous

Watch, the next one is probably going to be a millisecond-long freeze-frame appearance that could only be described as an Easter Egg of a guest performance.

I would actually like to see this!

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

        He’ll be like Tyler Durden!

  • http://twitter.com/PatrickWellsDP Patrick Wells

I’m so sick of the Nostalgia Critic. He’s just not funny, and neither is Lindsay. Spoony, Plinkett, and AVGN are where it’s at.

Plus, this is actually a good Musical. Musicals always have love happen fast and have over the top moments. ITS A MUSICAL.

    Whoops, double post

I used to thing that having a job at Channel Awesome would be great.

Not anymore.  A group of reviewers could suddenly materialize anywhere, and at any time.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7UCIMM7NMITQJZULDWGFVPMUEQ Jordan Bigness

This was one of the best collab reviews from TGWTG in a while. I still cant believe I havent seen the movie yet.

    Hurray for dental hygene!

    Great vid
     nice appearance by Brental Floss

I think Spoony stole the show.

Hot DAMN is N Chick looking good in this!

needs more Spoony! otherwise, entertaining. gotta love “guilty pleasures”

Once again, time for my random thoughts:

    – There needs to be a Team Spoony. There’s Team Snob, Team N-Chick, Angry Joe Army, and Game Heroes, and on top of that so many damn crossovers. Spoony’s the funniest guy on CH, give him some sidekicks, damnit!

    – N-Chick in a corset = cute ;)

    – BrentalFloss crossover? Unexpected, but awesome!

    – Critic’s got some pipes. He can sing baritone/tenor with some punch!

    – Linkara always seems to want to sing, but honestly, I’m not a fan of his singing voice.

    – Anyone else catch the ‘Yor’ reference?

    • http://filmstock.blog.pl Mateusz Hemmerling

I disagree with the first point, because most of sidekicks suck. I think Spoony really is the funniest guy, because he can pull it off by himself, and I think it should stay that way. Just to mention – I really like Nostalgia Chick, but every time she made an episode with Nella I turned it off immediately, it was so annoying. In most cases they just ruin the episodes.

      • http://twitter.com/Spokavriel Daniel Thomas Stack

The Good/Mad Doctor doesn’t really have the right feel for this work. Now if they were doing a musical review of Cabaret? I could see ways to make that work. Kinda… maybe…

      • Anonymous

Spoony really is good enough on his own. Other than total team collabs, the only person who’s been really good with Spoony is Pat the NES Punk. They both have the same kind of energy, and they played great off each other in the Highlander: Endgame review. If you haven’t seen it, check it out!

    • http://UnholyFireDragon.com Unholy Fire Dragon

I thought Linkara and Spoony was already a team, considering all the stuff they’ve done together.

just me or does nostalgia critic seem to not be over that batman movie…..or The Card Which Shall Not Be Described

  • http://twitter.com/Caspalta Sean Jentis

I remember the last time I snapped my fingers and ended up in that same spot. Spoony wasn’t there and I stole some of his socks. I had to take a plane from Arizona back to New Jersey. Totally being removed from my finger snap queue.

  • Gregory Bogosian

This movie did not end the way all musicals are supposed to end, with a transvestite and a muscle-man getting shot to death with an anti-matter laser.

    • Anonymous

Anti-Matter?  Does that mean it doesn’t matter?

Sorry, couldn’t help it.  You go to *one* Rocky Horror Night, and suddenly you fall in love with all the callbacks.

  • http://twitter.com/kyriakitriti Alexandria White

At least they didn’t catch Spoony on the toilet.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

Thank god you were just brushing your teeth, Spoony. Remember when that time traveler materialized in your living room and opened fire with a plasma rifle? You weren’t even wearing pants, man.

    Oh, and Moulin Rouge? …

forget the poor quality, that one has potential!

With the power of video editing, it can be a mighty Counter-Song indeed!

        Thanks MulletMan. *Salute*

Counter-Song with the “Yor’s World” theme! He’s the man!

  • Anonymous

N-Chick must now officially become my wife.
Holy Hell, the critic can sing! He should do that in all his reviews.
Spoony, you are the man. I loled at the end.
    That is all.

  • Renaissance_nerd

ok first off, my god Lindsay was smoking hot in this one. I mean wow!

With that out of the way. Really Spoony… your 2 second cameo was worth posting this on your site? Running out of Ad revenue are we?

but my own personal douchebaggery aside this was amazing, Doug and crew were really awesome and for the most part descent singers.

    • Anonymous

part of the community thriving is sharing each others videos. just take a look at TGWTG main page. not all the reviewers do it. spoony’s been very consistent in posting videos that he is connected with in some way (the very odd exception aside). i thought this was a justified link, especially since its so frickin awesome.

anyway, aint bashing you. we all love the video and all love spoony. he gets more then enuf ad revenue from our repeated viewings of any and all old middle and new reviews he’s made. that’s his reward as creator of such great work.

but yea i was thinking the same thing too…. lindsay looks hot in this!

    • Anonymous

Whut? Does he get ad revenue from posting another person’s video? I thought it didn’t work that way. And if you mean the ads on his site, well, if you saw this video posted here you probably were here already so the video didn’t actually make you come here. Unless you clicked further to comment?

Or am I just really confused?

  • Anonymous

My first thought: “Wow, that Channel Awesome logo looks like the Baba Yetu video from Civilization 4″, and then boom, Brentalfloss guest appearance!

And then Nostalgia Critic kills him…he’s as big a douchebag as that prick, Montezuma!

As for the movie: I…couldn’t watch this for very long.  I have my guilty pleasures, but the moment this movie got to the cancan, I just thought “okay, this is too stupid even for me”.  And I LIKE the cancan!  The very campiness of that French classic is the very essence of something that’s not too stupid even for me.  But this movie found a way to cross the line for me.

This movie just really got on my nerves, and that can be dangerous.  Even while watching this hilarious review, I just felt the constant urge to punch Nicole Kidman in that smug nose & lip area of her face.  I was able to tolerate her in Batman Forever (…one of my guilty pleasures), but not here.  Definitely not here.

Dammit, where are my no-killing-people pills?  Mullet needs his fix.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

Frank n’ Rocky were less gay than this movie. Annnd I’m gonna say, better dressed.

  • http://twitter.com/Lions_Fan_81 adam b

I agree with just about everyone else that you should have had a bigger role in the video Spoony.  Overall the review was good and the music was catchy and performed well.  Seeing Brental Floss was a surprise.

The Nostalgia Chick stole the show though, damn she is fine.  Fan service cleavage shots are always appreciated….

    • Anonymous

I take it I’m in the minority of favoring Floss’ sexy, fake curly mustache then?

What can I say, I like stylish camp!

  • Anonymous

The look you gave was priceless, dude.  Great job from everyone who threw in on this one!

  • Anonymous

Was I the only one hoping for a massive Channel Awesome collaboration for the “Guilty Pleasures” song? Each person having a short bit about there own  guilty pleasures. Could have Spoony say something like… “I didn’t hate all of FF8, and that one part in Highlander two, with Connery and his magick (With a K) too.” ((I suck at rhyming >>))

  • http://twitter.com/ItsLabrada Eric Labrada

Good to see you keeping up your hygiene Spoony ” GOOD JOB ” brushing the teefers

  • http://twitter.com/Spokavriel Daniel Thomas Stack

In the bathroom again. Why is this making me think of when Mecha-kara returned you to being a Black Lantern. Oh yeah BATHROOM. Ever think others are starting to make you end up there on film on purpose? Like say that one Anime review where there was a personal bum wiper?

Edit: Oops forgot something. There was one thing that was left out of this review that does tend to make the movie look like a perfect work of art. Absynthe. You can find the recipe online.

Awsome review! Trully amazing work. There needs to be a commentary for this! I need to know the behind the sceen stuff ^_^ also nice balance between songnumbers and normal spoken review.
    btw

El Tango de Pretense is the best song here and Phelous needs to sing more often.

  • David Feichtner

    I saw you!!!!
    You were behind Linkara, right?

    • http://UnholyFireDragon.com Unholy Fire Dragon

Yep. You could see his house from here. ;-)

  • Anonymous

Kind of expected them to go to Spoony’s house when they said, “We need a mind even more cynical to combat it!”. Then I expected a shot of Spoony fleeing in terror.

    This was good too, though.

wtf two second came!? i cant be bothered to wait for it.

anyway Moulin rogue sucks, only people who think dangling keys are interesting would think this movie is mentaly engaging

Glad someone else hated that goddamn movie.

  • http://twitter.com/for_zack for zack

For the first time in a year, something wrote by NC was funny! Hurray!

    • Tykittaa

Apparently you didn’t see his “cute girl” rant in the Doug’s First Movie review.  I laughed so hard at that I lost my voice.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Isn’t most of NC’s stuff actually written by his brother?

  • http://twitter.com/DieDissonanz Barry

You guys should do a Channel Awesome Musical next year. Stuff like this has potential.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ONVAGUEEMFOUT356M4GIGXFEAQ adammur

hell yeah, it should be their 4th year anniversary.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Linkara and The Chick have got stellar voices. Put them together. RIDE THE WAVE OF AWESOME.

Oh, and the Critic’s voice is great too. Then again, he’s so awesome that he has somehow become one of the most underrated critics on TGWTG. If you actually sit down and appreciate his acting skill, singing voice, and sense of comedy, he is really damn good.

      • http://twitter.com/DieDissonanz Barry

I don’t agree. NC bores me most of the time, and I hate his squeaky, screeching Tidus-voice.
But this vid was cool. Mostly because of the other characters in it.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

If I had on problem with NC, I think he targets an age group that is just a little bit too young. Maybe if he cut down of the whole gun shtick (and similar skits) he would be fine. It’s kind of like sitting through a really bad South Park joke that JUST WON’T END!!!

  • http://twitter.com/DieDissonanz Barry

The only thing I really didn’t like about Moulin Rouge btw, was how they treated Toulouse Lautrec. Research him if you like, he was one of the first artists to lay groundstones for modern graphic design. And his drawings were brilliant.

In the movie he’s just an abysnthe-gurgling dwarf with a funky beard.

  • OtterMatt

Baz Luhrman’s movies are ALL stream-of-consciousness mind trips through what SHOULD be a normal scene.  If you didn’t realize that going in to watching Moulin Rouge, well, I just pity you.

But speaking as someone who appreciates this movie for the catchy, flashy, weird-as-hell catalog of nutcases that it is, this review is DAMN funny.

  • http://bluehighwind.blogspot.com/ BlueHighwind

    Spoony was in this?

For this video, the part of Spoony will be played by John Leguizamo.

  • http://profiles.google.com/spoonseeker Spoon Seeker

    Hahaha Spoooony!! :D

  • Anonymous

Didn’t the Duke close down the Moulin Rouge afterwards?

Anyway, the film was just a fun audiovisual experience, like a music video, instead of a proper story.

Awesome review anyway – caught the spirit perfectly!

  • RosieRoses

I wish I could click my fingers and go to Disneyland.. and Spoony’s house!

  • http://www.youtube.com/thefaustianman Faust

Is it wrong that after watching this I want SOPA to pass?

The critic has run out of ideas. Combine this with his let’s play…he’ll have to be getting a real job real soon.

    (see what I did there?)

    • Anonymous

Did you even see it completely? That was the best one of the year. It was awesome, creative, funny :-s
Oh well.. Its your opinion I guess..

      • http://www.youtube.com/thefaustianman Faust

Gosh! I guess I am turning into one of those “I hate everything that’s not Spoony” people.

        • Anonymous

Well.. You are probably just hungering for more Spoony content like me :-)

Everyone is. He’ll pick himself up soon enough. I hope.

nah, you just have different tastes, I love all of the tgwtg and bt and tse stuff, its always worth a good laugh, and collaborations are so much fun, cause once you see one cameo, your anticipating just who the hell is next

          • http://www.youtube.com/thefaustianman Faust

True. I actually like cross-overs. Even Pat, which some – understandably- did not like at first. Thanks.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Like so many of us, you are addicted to the sound of Noah’s velvet voice. He could be reading from the phone book and you would still love it.

I know, because I’m trained to love his voice too. Maybe we should form a rehab clinic.

          • http://www.youtube.com/thefaustianman Faust

Hahaha! Perhaps we should. He’s talented. Although, just one person so I understand how it’s hard for him to come up with content all the time…

            But I got a fever…and cowbell isn’t the cure.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Especially since he’s battling his own demons right now. Once he get’s back on track, we will get the production rate we are used to.

      • Anonymous

I’m not sure anything with Nostalgia Chick in it can be quantified as “best”.  She just sucks the goddamn joy out of these things whenever she shows up.  Frankly her tired as fuck line reads and general lack of funny material has worn me down.  The second her skinny ass shows up i automatically lose interest…  But alas, my wife really likes Nella (who actually IS funny), and so I had to sit through the damn thing.

-Really the entire thing was well conceived, and original; but largely unnecessary as a review.  People with taste already knew the film sucked, and really I see no point in mimicking the problems in the film to emphasize the point that the are problems. -we get it, it was a shit musical, most modern musicals are.

        • http://twitter.com/Matt_Szota Matthew

Yes cause NC, Spoony, Linkara and other such members of team TGWTG are all known for reviewing movies/comics/games that people believe are good. They review the bad because people know they are bad and want to see them get torn down. It is even more satisfying to see a review of something that somehow is popular but you still know is god awful, like this movie. So honestly think about what you are writing. Saying a review is unnecessary because people know it is bad is pretty much saying that most of the work done by people on TGWTG is pointless which leads to the point, why do you watch then?

The review was done well and well acted and the singing was what took it over the top to a level of awesome. I hope to see Brent do more stuff with/for the site, maybe a cross over with Spoony.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Nostalgia Chick needs more energy in her acting. That’s my biggest problem with her.

          • Anonymous

She needs less bitchin’n’moanin’… I like her analyses but I think this whole feminist crap is messing with her brain. I mean, she’s lost the humor and started treating this stuff way too seriously.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

I LIKE the fact that she is taking down god-awful romantic comedies. I think the content is downing her mood.

She should try to have some fun in ripping the shit out those movies.

          • Anonymous

That’s what I said. It’s very good material but only if you feel detached enough to make fun of it.

On the other hand, I totally get it how a chick may get depressed about movies. The number of well rounded female characters is just too low. Hollywood only tends to cast women in predictable, shallow roles.

        • Anonymous

I don’t know. Tastes differ. I pretty much enjoy most of lindsays work as I really like her style. Her analytical style is pretty enjoyable for me and I like her kind of charisma.
For example, I really liked her take on “Kate and Leopold!” and the whole analyzation of Meg Ryan movies as example for Chick-Flicks.
She is just different than Doug for example. Thats pretty much what I really really like about Channel Awesome.

You have people who have great difference in style but are also very enjoyable.
Phelous, Welshy, Mathew Buck, The Critic, Lindsay, Linkara, Jewwario,  Spooney or Joe are not the nine same lifes of the cat but differ greatly which makes it enjoyable.
It would be pretty boring if they were all the same :)
edit: I was maybe a little bit drunk as i wrote this so some words may repeat more than necessary

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

She is a little boring, I do have to admit. Her analysis is valid (if occasionally meandering, see ‘The Little Mermaid’) but she needs to be an interesting personality on top of being a critic.

Incidental, the Blockbuster Buster has exactly the opposite problem. He tries to be entertaining (with mixed success), but his analysis of ‘New Nightmare’ was so bad that Welshy actually had to CORRECT his review with one of his own.

Oh, and BB’s gimmick is that he ‘busts’ movies with a hammer. Expect to see about five minutes of smashing and cutting up a DVD box sprinkled into most of his reviews. I actually prefer NChick over this guy.If only NChick would joke around a bit. Have some fun, or try to act. I’ve see Lindsay do it, she is capable of being funny.

    • Anonymous

I disagree, I thought it was hilarious and brilliant.

      • http://www.youtube.com/thefaustianman Faust

To each his own. I just didn’t like it. I liked his other stuff…just not this.

        • http://twitter.com/warrior527 Dan Holmes

Ok. You don’t like it. But don’t ever joke about wanting SOPA to pass. Never!

          • http://www.youtube.com/thefaustianman Faust

            Can jokes go too far?

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

            It depends on the listener.

That said, I don’t think a lot of people can laugh at a SOPA joke. They will get too offended by it, for fairly good reason.

          • Evan Marriott

            Damn straight.

          • https://me.yahoo.com/a/itzLDG5xzfloe1.ek2_z6wrU2MNwaRwe#9bba2 Edward

Whatever guys.  I’m really glad you guys are against SOPA but you have no right to tell anybody what they can or can not joke about.  Calm down and get over it.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Actually, I can decide to be offended by whatever I want. Don’t tell me what I believe in.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Oh, you can joke about SOPA. You can do whatever you want. Just be prepared for how your audience will react. Because they may not laugh if they don’t think your funny or tasteful.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Really? Because I found it to be hilariously STUPID and brilliantly OFFENSIVE!

    • Evan Marriott

I’ll just pretend that you did not just say that you want SOPA to pass because of one video. Cause if it is passed, the Internet will be crippled, and possibly die. The world can’t afford the loss of the Internet.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Oh, how DARE the Critic experiment with new ideas. He should always do the same thing every week and never think outside the box. Apparently, the Nostalgia Critic isn’t ALLOWED to fail. Yes, Nostalgia critic should forever hang up his clip-on tie for botching ONE FUCKING LETS-PLAY OUT OF HIS +200 VIDEOS OF SOLID CONTENT!

And SOPA is serious business. Your not funny. I feel the need to say that, because the whole ‘(see what I just did there)’ thing makes me feel that you have your head jammed so far up your ass, that you think other people can’t pick up on your ‘jokes’. Oh, how CLEVER you are. I’m simply blown away.

And what do you mean ‘run out of ideas’? What has he recycled here? Are you sick of his acting method, or think that reviews of musicals are overdone on TGWTG? Are you just being an asshole? I don’t know, because YOU DIDN’T EXPLAIN YOURSELF PROPERLY!

You could have just said WHY you didn’t like this review. You know, make your point, defend it with examples and sound logic. But no, you just decided to insult him without reason because you thought it would be entertaining, you pathetic little troll.

      • Opulous Bluetail

Damnit when will people learn to stop feeding the trolls? When you reply, he wins.

When you see a post like this, PLEASE just ignore it and move on.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

What has he won? A verbal beating? Is he a masochist or something?

At least I may have stopped idiots from agreeing with him. He had two ‘likes’ before we showed up. That number hasn’t changed since.

          • sanktmikael

He wins the satisfaction of getting some attention, albeit negative.

      • https://me.yahoo.com/a/itzLDG5xzfloe1.ek2_z6wrU2MNwaRwe#9bba2 Edward

Dude calm the fuck down.  You took that way to personally.  Ooh, he didn’t like Nostalgia Critic.  Who gives a fuck?  He has a right to his opinion.

Also, we’re all well aware how dangerous SOPA is and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t really want it to pass.  I sure as hell don’t want it to pass but I found the joke amusing.  It’s called black humor.  We all need to be able to laugh at our situation in the face of evil.  Don’t take everything so seriously.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Okay, I’ll admit that I got really angry in my post. I sort of let my anger direct the tone of my post.

If you can laugh as jokes about SOPA, more power to you. But don’t be so shocked to see other people offended by the same joke. Different people are offended by different things, and it’s not hard to imagine that some of us are offended by this joke. This was a really risky joke, and it didn’t exactly achieve the intended response.

Now his remarks on the Nostalgia critic, however angry, are entirely valid. He DOES have a real job, and makes real money. Entertainment is an entirely valid career choice, and Faust appeared to attack it because it wasn’t some kind of office job. He wasn’t exactly being polite about it either.

Good God, do I HATE Moulin Rouge…

This was an epically funny and surprisingly in-depth review, which is exactly what a movie as polarizing as this one required. It demonstrated a tremendous sense of style, breaking from the somewhat tedious formula the Critic’s reviews have taken on lately, and I appreciated the fact that the Critic gave voice to both sides of the argument for this movie.

… Having said THAT, however, I am in total agreement with his stance on this film: it is vapid, music-video garbage masquerading as a movie. Production design or no, this thing was more deserving of a slew of Razzies than a gaggle of Oscars.

(And Spoony’s cameo? Priceless. It was definitely the icing on the cake.)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Should everything marginally containing Spoony really take up space on the site? Because this was a REALLY minor cameo.

I would have understood if he had a larger part, something the size of Oancitizen’s contribution. Sure, it didn’t go anywhere or contribute anything to the review, but I’ll even forgive THAT. At least Oan had a skit with lines.

I’m not saying that what Spoony added wasn’t funny. It was hilarious, well timed, and well acted. But is it really enough to put it on your site? It almost feels like you just asked Doug for a quick little part in the review so you would have an excuse to put the video here. You don’t have to be the star of EVERYTHING on your site, but it got to be more substantial than THIS!

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

If you had an internet shown and were a well-known e-celebrity, wouldn’t you mention your apperances on other shows?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Yeah, if I WASN’T an online celebrity. If I got a small part in a video like this as an everyday shmuck, I would react like the Nostalgia Critic got praise from Roger Ebert (which did happen, basically confirming NC’s awesomeness).

But Spoony is a star on the internet. Something like this should not be merely mundane to Noah, it should be downright insignificant. So why is it on his website? Noah’s appearance seems so insignificant that it may as well not be here.

It’s not like I’m really complaining, this review is fantastic through and through. But I don’t think this is related to The Spoony Experiment enough to be here. I suppose you could argue that by just containing Noah Antwiller, this review belongs here. But then Spoony could just tag EVERY video on TGWTG with a half-second clip of him, and he could justify putting it here. I just want to know what the standard should be.

        • Anonymous

“Oh my god, he’s wasting so much space with an embedded video code. Oh my god, doesn’t he know there’s starving computers in Africa or something, oh my god.”

It almost feels like you just grasped at straws for a quick little moan about in the
review so you would have an excuse to have your name appear. You don’t have
to be positive about EVERYTHING on this site, but complaints should be
          more substantial than THIS!

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

You are absolutely right. Complaints SHOULD be more substantial than my insignificant little post.

But wait, you complaint is nearly pointless too. This reminds me of a quote, something about casting stones before…something or other.

Wait…oh shit, I DID complain about space. Oops, sorry. At least your insignificant post is RIGHT.

  • Chris Mess

Hey Spoony, now you have even more songs to use as a counter song!! :D

  • Anonymous

Man, what an annoying movie. Everyone acts irrationally, the story is so predictable that it can hardly be called a story at all, the songs are obnoxious, the dialog is terrible, the editing is spastic etc.

Also, love is not always nice and pleasant.
If you want an example of when it’s not, go watch Mirai Nikki. It shows a VERY different kind of love then what this movie does.

  • Mike Socarras

Am I seriously the only one that thought Brentalfloss completely stole the show? I had never even heard of this guy before this video somehow, but his facial expressions combined with his voice is one of the funniest things I’ve seen on the internet in a long time.

Oh and this review was *pure genius.* Like Doug’s “Tom and Jerry Movie”-review level of classic genius. I honestly enjoyed this movie despite the bizarre and pretentious crap because I genuinely like the remixes. Sorry, I’m just a sap for sappy romance songs.

    • Anonymous

Brentalfloss stealing the show I think is the best part.  It was probably done on purpose, seeing as he’s the guest, which is a very pleasant surprise for those who already know and love his stuff.

And his facial expressions are one of the many fun things about him.  The guy has a lot of character and the energy he puts in to his work is what makes him a great entertainer.

And from the looks of it, this video just introduced a lot of people to him.

    • http://twitter.com/_amagno Anthony Magno

Yes, I was very excited when I found out that Brentalfloss was in this review. If you liked this, you should check out his YouTube channel. He’s most well known for adding lyrics to old Nintendo music.

I love how Brad rhymes “hell” with “hell”. :)

Just kidding. Terrific review. I felt NC was getting a little bit stale lately, but this one made up for it and then some.

As for Spoony’s cameo.. I thought it was hilarious. Btw., can Spoony sing? Have we heard him ever?

    • Anonymous

Final Fantasy X, part 2.  The very end.  He sings.  And gets very, very into it.  It was actually one hell of a great way to close the episode!

Though I don’t think Dr. Insano would agree.

    • http://twitter.com/_amagno Anthony Magno

Yes, the FFX-2 review contains his most prominent musical number.

He also sings “Part of Your World” in his RiffTrax for After Last Season.

I don’t know if this one counts, but he sings part of “Wild, Wild West” in the SWAT4 review.

  • Anonymous

Oh, and btw – I didn’t even realize Linkara’s “metallic” bit was a result of a sucky microphone. I thought it was an artistic choice – one I actually liked. :)

A 40 minute critic review is too long

    • http://twitter.com/ElizabethStr Elizabeth Sterling

It is? Critical reaction is the kind of thing that can be exponentially longer than the piece it’s examining, though with something as vapid as this movie 1/2 to 1/3 is about right, especially when it’s 66% comedy and 33% analysis. I personally have no issues paying attention for 40 minutes and they certainly kept the pace up. No harm if you didn’t find it funny, humor is as subjective as it gets but ‘too long’? I don’t see it, especially as people like Doug got in to this line of work making their own experimental movies.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Now when the whole thing is well done. This could last till the end of time and I would be satisfied.

I think you are responding to your own personal hatred of VLogs, and have come the the conclusion that Vlogs are bad because they are too long. So you condemn long videos because they remind you of Vlogs. Just a guess, could be wrong.

VLogs are bad because little effort is often put into them. There ale only a few Vlogs that I will watch, and only if the Vlogger is entertaining enough. Like Spoony’s Counter Monkey Vlogs or the Vlog about Breaking Dawn.

I saw this movie once and that was because a girl I knew talked me into watching it and the only part about it I liked was the music… mostly because I like classic rock and oldies! Other than that I have no desire to ever see it again and will avoid ever watching a single second more of it so long as I live! That said I like this review, but I hope to Cthulhu that this review doesn’t mean the next anniversary movie ya’ll do is going to be a musical… some of you sing well but… I don’t care for musicals!5:45-keyword(s) “5 Second Movies” not 2 hour movie!6:57-Don’t watch A Knight’s Tale it’ll blow your mind!12:04-dito…Yeap!19:20-Ok, I’m really surprised no one out all these nerds involved (comics, movies, Dr. Who) hasn’t made a Clown from Spawn joke as Jon Ligwazomo is the “midget”, a Dr. Who joke for the rainbow scarf guy, a Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong fame for the bearded old man, ect… for the group of side characters at this point!19:50-This guy’s an Orange Lantern isn’t he!? Or he’ll be one now! My fellow DA members I look forward to seeing your renders by week’s end! :DI know the guy who played the Duke here was the villain in one of the movie adapt of Romeo and Juliet!24:48-Yeap!”Oh, my god that hooker I’ve been dating is cheating on me! Next time on Jerry Springer!”30:13-It’s a good thing late 1800s France didn’t have police or any kind of authority figures till the 1960s!On the subject of the main character’s actions near the end that is the closest thing to the way I’ve actually seen a real life human act if put in a “similar” situation! My guilty pleasures are still at least movies in a gene or style I use to like this doesn’t fit any of the above!I’d like to see more mixing of the reviewers like this but less musicals! Only musicals I like are animated or very adult like Trey Parker and Matt Stone made ones or Mel Brooks… well the funny ones!

NC is gorgeous dressed as a whore…or even when she’s not.

This flick is pretty damn bad though.
Nothing against movie musicals as there are some great ones. Sweeny Todd, The Blues Brothers, South Park for example.
However this was just horrible. Terrible story, ruined classic songs, WTF editing and Ben Kenobi trying to sing.

Some say it’s a girls movie, but even girls I know won’t admit to liking it. My missus can’t stand it.
So who is it that watches and enjoys this film?

I’m actually okay with musicals. As long as the music isn’t padding out the plot, and is helping to tell the story, music can be a really good thing.

I don’t really get Jonathan’s reasoning though. What do the godawful Transformer’s movies have to do with the conversation? Seems reactionary to me.

And why is he leaving out Transformers 1. That movie was intolerable too. Did he actually LIKE it. Because I saw that movie, and had to leave the theater at the line “please stop lubricating on the man”.

Because we are desperate for content. We miss him.

For Skyrealm: This is the single most appropriate place to complain about Spoony’s cameo, if your going to do so. That’s why comments page exists in the first place, to allow viewers to give feedback and discuss the content.

Also, what do you mean ‘that’s the world in general’? Do you mean people ride Spoony’s dick on OTHER videos, and this one isn’t special? You may need to clarify that.

For Mike Wallace: Correction, Spoony WAS funny and popular. Now you can never find him, and he never makes anything new. I think this fact will change once Spoony gets a grip on his life, and I look forward to the day it does. But right now, nothing is happening here.

Regardless of his hard times it would make sense on his part to keep his fans updated at least once a week, otherwise he will start losing them. People are fickle and without any new posts (even written ones) a site like this can quite easily become a wasteland. Without posts a lot of his audience members have nothing bringing them back to the site day after day, and his fan base may end up being permanently affected by it. Get Well Spoony but don’t leave us completely hanging without any reason to come to the site regularly.

        • robinhood9961

I do agree that he has to try to keep putting stuff up on the site, and he knows this that is why he put this up. The main point was that we shouldn’t pressure him about it, and the fans that are truly loyal will stick around, not just for his videos but for his well-being as well

          • robinhood9961

actually loyal is the wrong word more like dedicated or committed.

Well, maybe we SHOULD abandon the site for the time being. Give Noah a break from the Spoony Experiment.

As long as he recovers, I see no reason why his fans won’t come back. If the content is good, people will come to see it.

      • Anonymous

Why do random people always make post like they’re Noah’s agent, like they know him. He’s busy but it’s his website, and he should be able to take 3 seconds out to put up a simple “Hey guys, Here’s whats going on, or coming up next.” message. I’m not a fan or a follower I’m just a “Viewer” that checks his stuff out from time to time. It be nice to let the Viewers know what projects are coming up or when they’ll get a chance to check out something new or if it’s going to be delayed. He doesn’t have to drop his life story on the net but it be a professional courtesy to the this sites viewers if he can update his website after long periods like this. It’s cool he makes video’s but when sites aren’t updated regularly people tend to lurk and find other stuff to watch which is why I at least check is site out every few months because it doesn’t get updated enough. Seems about right.

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Noah mentioned something about having a loose schedule. Maybe he should create a more concrete schedule that he can share with his fans. It shouldn’t take long to post a schedule update.

But this is all speculation. We have no idea when our favorite Internet personality is coming back, or when he will recover from depression enough to make videos again. When something important happens, people are going to talk about it.

I don’t know how much patience we have left though. We may have to accept the death of the Spoony Experiment and move on. I started with his early stuff too, and thought it was just going to get better and better. I can’t help but feel a little crushed.

  • Fafa Huerta

Thanks to that guy with the glasses I really stopped liking crossovers, you do your own stuff much better, get on with it!

Hmm, there used to be a post here about spoony posting something to which I wanted to reply this:
While I would not word it like that, I basically agree. I check this site a lot to see if there is something new and nothing….

    But it got moderated out?

So is Spoony done with making original content? If that’s the case I’m going to delete this place from my favorites. Thanks.

    • Anonymous

If Spoony had original content in the first place, he wouldn’t be still living in his brother’s apartment, but yeah, I do miss his one-man MST3K.

    • http://twitter.com/nnecron Necro

He is likely to be done with making his own contents, but it’s not confirmed yet.  If you read Spoony’s post, he has a mental problem or some kind of sleeping disorder.  I’m not sure about the details, but it is certain that he is having problems.

      • Anonymous

That sucks. I hope he has a legit job and doesn’t rely on this for $$$. I think I read that his girlfriend left him? Here’s to hoping he focuses more on his old style of reviews and less of the insano crap. I wish he would sever ties with TheNostalgiaCritic and his circus but I don’t see that happening. Anyway, if this really is the end, thanks for the laughs.

Hey, don’t give up on Spoony so soon- he seems to like his work, and I’m sure he’s just as eager to get back on track as you are for him to! Spoony’s awesome, and I don’t think you should give up on him just because he’s been having a rough time for a bit.

  • http://twitter.com/nnecron Necro

I never really understood what guilty pleasure suppose to be.  Everything in this world has flaws.  Even the LOTR has one big plot hole.  So what if you noticed something you don’t like in a movie?  It only means that the movie has flaws just like any other movies. If you enjoy it, it means the movie is good.  What is there to be guilty about?

    • Anonymous

A guilty pleasure is just something you’re ashamed for liking; I think most men would be rather embarrassed about liking Twilight, as it is deemed the most girly movie since The Notebook. It’s really not about a little flaw here and there. (I didn’t watch the video; I apologize if that’s how they defined a “guilty pleasure” in it.)

Also, what’s this LOTR plot hole? You’re not referring to the eagle “issue”, are you?

      • http://twitter.com/nnecron Necro

Thanks for your reply.  I still find that concept ridiculous to be honest.  I’ve never ashamed of liking a girly show only because I am a grown man.  Hell, I can proudly say that I like Sponge Bob even though it is suppose to be a kid’s show.  I’m sure it’s a matter of mentality.  The reason why I’ve never understood the term is because I was never ashamed of my hobbies when I was a child.

(The video doesn’t say exactly like that.  It says “liking a movie, which contradicts with your taste”)

I am exactly talking about the eagle.  I can probably defend it by saying “Sauron could easily spot a ring bearer and send off his Ring Wraiths”, but nobody even mentions the option of flying to Mordor.  We aren’t even sure how the eagles are capable of fighting against those flying beasts.  Some say eagles won’t answer to everyone at anytime, but Gandalf clearly had the access when he escapes from Saruman’s tower.

        • Anonymous

I usually take pride in whatever my heart desires as well, but there are exceptions.

As for the eagles, I guess you could classify that as a deus ex machina. That may count as a plot hole, but on the other hand, not everything has to be explained.

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but the eagles never seemed to be under direct control, did they? Where they ever explained to be tame? If not, then in theory, they could have been minding their own business both of these times, when they noticed the “people” in need and came to rescue them, much like dolphins are known to do. Gandalf on the tower, and Frodo and Sam on the rock, were both on rather secluded places where they might be easy to spot (that’s to say, these eagles won’t exactly notice just about anyone in a struggle… or deem it safe enough to interfere). That might be a ridiculous theory, though. But that the eagles are WILD would explain why they couldn’t just hop onto the eagles and fly into Mordor.

Or maybe I’m being an apologist. That’s possible.

Glad to see you Spoony One, even if it was brief! I hope you’re getting everything figured out, not to presume anything- but from my general experience depression is a frustrating, ambiguous thing to deal with, and it involves all kinds of unexpected drama besides being sad, like being apathetic and just wanting to avoid everything, so I understand about the delays in new postings. Take you time to get back on track, and I’ll be excited to see what you come up with when you do! (Hint: more Counter Monkey! it’s hilarious and awesome.)

By the way, I like TGWTG, I agree the crossovers and cameos are getting a little out of control, you can’t follow one guy anymore without having to follow ALL of them, and if you don’t happen to like one, you can’t avoid them. That being said, I really like a lot of the reviewers on there, and crossovers are fun to a smaller extent. This review was quite funny, and I enjoyed it.

      • Spokojasne

I’m not stalking him, I was just curious, just like many others, whats going on… apology accepted

        • Anonymous

Wasn’t an apology more like sarcasm. It’s cool spoony likes to make videos, it’s tough he has his own personal issues but still, spoony needs to organize his sh*t better. No one with a life is going to waste their time tracking this guy down all over the net just to find out when he’s going to update his own freaking website. I have sh*t to do so does everyone else. How hard is it to take 3 seconds to put

“Hey guys I’m busy doing this project here, updates to come soon stay tuned happy holidays”.

I mean holy sh*t is it that f’n hard!?! This guy will make a 90minute video ranting about completely absolutely f*cking nothing! but he can’t make a 10 word sentence that takes 3 seconds to upload to his own website? Holy sh*t man get your sh*t together.

Guess I’ll come back to this dump in April, maybe he might have 3 new videos by than.

          • Spokojasne

i know you were sarcastic, guess what – me to

          • Michael Smart

Oh go ahead and leave. You won’t be missed. Spoony’s been having rough times with his health and with other problems. He puts a lot of time and effort into his videos and the Counter Monkey videos and Vlogs he’s done lately were videos he did to share more about his experiences while he gets himself together. He’s working at his own pace, and the fact that he can do that is something I respect.

If you can’t understand that, then good riddance. Don’t come back.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Yes, but his pace has become unnacceptable. He used to have a much faster production rate, and he has declined very sharply.

Even you can’t deny that. At least show some sympathy, because I’m pretty damn sure you know where he’s coming from.

          • Anonymous

Noah’s pace has become unacceptable? Piss off man, it’s his life if he quit altogether it wouldn’t be unacceptable especially with the kind of health problems he is having. It’s not like we employ him, or even like we directly pay him, so leave it off

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_AS6P27NUTGFNYSELSQOS6CKTJ4 Richard R

            You’re kinda stupid.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

I hate this argument: ‘we don’t directly pay him’. We indirectly pay him by watching advertisements and just begin on his site. A person’s time and attention are valuable things worth real money, no matter how intangible they are. Don’t ever use that argument again, because it is incorrect and misleading.

And I don’t HATE Spoony. I’m just saying that his production had gone sharply down, and that is a very strong motivation to not visit his site every day. It’s a big issue worth talking about, even Noah has admitted to that on occasion.

And it’s not just his life. Noah has touched lots of fans, made them care about what he does. If he disappeared, it would affect them too. Yeah, I guess I can’t come to his house and MAKE him do a video, but I can sure leave the website and never come back.

You act as though I don’t care about this site, that I don’t care if Noah to pull through. If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t be complaining about it. I just want him to go back to the old production rate, and Noah expressed his desire to do so when he confessed his mental illness.

In summary, don’t be so defensive when people talk about Spoony’s problems. Not everyone is trying to bash him.

          • Anonymous

Is Spoony running your life that much? Also worst thing you can do is tell people with depression that their life is falling apart, it makes them feel worse about it and everything suffers as a result, I should know I work with people with depression. Most people find that taking a year off work and using it to do something they want is the best cure so in the circumstances he’s doing really well. I didn’t think you were anti-spoony I just thought you were going the wrong way about it, still are

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

Look, I understand your angry that he’s gone. He was so good for so long, and it’s really frustrating. It’s also a bit absurd how much we know about Noah’s personal life. It shows how much he’s fallen apart, being so desperate to tell us some really personal things.

As much as I know I should just leave the site and wait for Spoony to pull his shit together, I can’t bring myself to do it. Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m in denial. I have no good excuse.

I totally understand where your coming from. Others may yell at you for voicing your frustrations, but you just want Spoony back as much as everyone else. We shouldn’t blame you for running out of hope.

I really don’t get how liking anime as a whole can be considered a guilty pleasure, that like saying video games or movies in general are guilty pleasures. Like these there are a variety anime with a various amount of quality to each.

    • http://www.facebook.com/elise.simon3 Elise Simon

Take it from a girl’s stand point. I was doing typical girl things like being a cheerleader and when I would bring up stuff like Final Fantasy or Resident Evil video games, I got a lot of teasing from the other girls. Cause we are not suppose to like stuff like that we are suppose to be into football players and shopping and whatnot and I would much rather go home and play resident evil or watch Death Note than go shopping with some vapid girls and they were just not accepting of that. That was back in high school I am in grad school now and still get made fun of for being able to quote Dune the extended edition or know more about martial sci fi films than a guy does. This movie for example. All my girlfriends wanted me to love it and I just found it outstandingly boring. I would rather watch Lord of the Rings or something. Even a classic like A Streetcar Named Desire which they show a clip of and is by far one of the best films I have ever seen in my life or the original Rear Window.

      • SamThePsycicClam

I see where your coming from, my friends kind of think I’m weird for liking musicals, but I still don’t think of musicals as a guilty pleasure. Blood Brothers and Nightmare Before Christmas, along with Les Mis, Guys and Dolls and a handful of others are things I will watch and listen too and revel in whenever I want, no matter what my friends think, there’s nothing guilty about them. It’s when we come to Starlight Express and Fame, which I should hate for their content, tone and standard production lay out but I still love for some inexplicable reason, those are the guilty pleasures. I guess what I’m saying is that I agree with Psycho Gamer an entire genre can’t be a guilty pleasure in my mind. If you like anime you are an anime fan no need to feel guilty about that, if you like a bad anime or one that goes against your sensibilities that’s a guilty pleasure.
