Suburban Knights Part 1

The Spoony One | Jun 26 2011 | more notation(s) |

  • Tristan Pendergrass

I love it, only the whole bottom third of the screen was taken up by intermittently flashing ads that wouldn’t go away no matter how many times I hit the X button, it was FUCKIN annoying. Other than that, really terrific and the writing/acting is even better than last year. The only part of the whole production that still feels really amateur is the sound. The background sound/audio levels are off so markedly and it’s pretty distracting. But I don’t mind that much, it’s still really great. I really like the film brain subplot developing here…

    • http://UnholyFireDragon.com Unholy Fire Dragon

Yeah, I expect some kind of cliched-story with the whole film-brain thing. And if and when I’m popular, I’ll probably have a similar storyline. I’m picturing a “competition” storyline between me and either Spoony or Nostalgia Critic, only to end-up as a team-up to fight evil or something. LOL

  • http://twitter.com/MajorKerina Sarah Jody

The opening looked really neat in how it was filmed but it was kinda awkward in feel.

Kind of a tone whiplash going from that opening to Angry Joe.

Other than that, I enjoyed it. I think maybe they should’ve cut it a little more tight in some places but it was enjoyable.

    But yeah, the opening…*grimace*.

Looking forward to how the rest goes together. Skitch’s music is really cool.

    • http://twitter.com/Linkara19 Lewis Lovhaug

I thought the same thing about the mood whiplash when I watched the rough cut of it (Doug gives us a rough cut for re-dubbing lines and whatnot), but I think the tone change works better in the final version because we have the opening credits breaking it up.

      • http://twitter.com/MajorKerina Sarah Jody

Yeah, that does help, and my opinion of the opening has improved with rewatching it a second time.

Maybe I’m just bummed the ditzy “Bill” got offed. He was fun.

I love the ending to part 1 though. I want that music.

      • http://twitter.com/mixmastermind mixmastermind

I did laugh at that random explosion just before the credits.

  • Diggerjohn111

Only Spoony could be Gandolf the Grey. Awesomeness so far.

  • http://twitter.com/webbard webbard

I found this one funnier: http://youtu.be/kbKXfcULxCc and this Spoony Parody is pretty funny too http://youtu.be/iYrU8w9GV4s

    • Anonymous

I didn’t find these two videos funny at at all. In fact i found the root canal i had last year way more funny.

But i will ciriticise the 3rd year anniversery vid..
The first part of suburban Knight is in dire need of some cutting and some jokes that aren’t references or inside jokes. The setup of the teaser/intro was way to long.

But on what would i assume to be your videos, they don’t touch upon any of these points.

May be reading up on what parody is would help you.

      [WIKIPEDIA]:

A parody (pronounced /ˈpærədi/; also called send-up, spoof or lampoon),
in contemporary usage, is a work created to mock, comment on, or
trivialise an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other
target, by means of humorous, satiric or ironic imitation. As the literary theorist Linda Hutcheon
puts it, “parody … is imitation, not always at the expense of the
parodied text.” Another critic, Simon Dentith, defines parody as “any
cultural practice which provides a relatively polemical
allusive imitation of another cultural production or practice.” Often,
the most satisfying element of a good parody is seeing others mistake it
      for the genuine article.[citation needed]

      • http://twitter.com/webbard webbard

My Video is 3 parts, with the 2nd part tonight and 3rd part tomorrow. In total the parody will take less then 5 minutes of your life. Meanwhile watching one part of this meandering garbage is a half hour, and a total of 2 hours. Parts one and two setup the punch line.

Dude, no one gives a crap about your stupid videos. Go away.

        • Soilin Slytherin

if you don’t like it then don’t watch it.

Nobody forces you to watch it, making fun of these people in such a lowlife disrespectful way is just plain dumb. Like how in the one video you ‘laugh’ with spoony’s health problems. I mean WTF is your problem? Your pestering because someone is SICK? Low dude.

Try investing half the time these guys do in their movies before you act like your opinion is more important and come back then. We’ll see how much you’ll still act like that

Why oh why would you say ‘i found this better’ and then link your own stuff?

      • http://www.facebook.com/waynepmiddleton Wayne Middleton

Because riding coat tails is easier than investing in little things like writing or production value.

But, you are an attention whore linking to how funny you think your own videos are. I’m just telling you to play to your strengths.

    • Sevyne

Okay so I very very rarely post anything, but I need to say a few things to this. If you are going to parody or attack someone, could you at least be funny or really angry about it? I’m not sure what this is even supposed to be, but it’s neither scary nor funny. If this is an attempt at trolling, it’s not even doing a good job at that. I’m not even trying to be an ass saying this; It’s just that I don’t really get what you are trying to do or prove.

If it’s for attention, I guess it’s working on a very (almost non-existent) small scale, but to be that guy is like being a wwe superstar that gets 1 or 2 guys in a packed arena to boo/cheer you while the millions remain dead silent waiting for some real action and getting in a bathroom break.

  • http://UnholyFireDragon.com Unholy Fire Dragon

I fucking knew the beginning would basically be the intro.! LOL
I couldn’t expect any less, really.

So far, I found it funny and generally awesome. I can hardly wait for the next part. I’ll see you later Spoony. (I was supposed to go to bed hours ago, but, oh well… I’ll go now)

  • Higaki Rinne

Oh, my quote from the M&M review was… spot-on.
    That Japanese was cringe-worthy, MarzGurl.

Watched it for 15 minutes and didn’t laugh once, couldn’t take anymore after that and had to turn it off. I’m a big fan of this site, but I can’t really say the same for TGWTG or Channel Awesome, it’s just not funny.

    • http://twitter.com/Linkara19 Lewis Lovhaug

I applaud you, sir.  Humor is subjective and while I (in my own biased point of view, being in it and all), love how the movie has turned out, I like the fact that you didn’t troll, didn’t insult, you just stated that you didn’t think it was funny and you don’t find TGWTG funny.  Kudos.  ^_^

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christopher-Lee/676569292 Christopher Lee

Ya I’m really proud to see someone not troll.  Kinda makes me think the worlds improving just a little.  :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cado-Folust/100001915342551 Cado Folust

And it does me good to see content creators take criticism well. Too often if you say you don’t like something or you try to say exactly what you don’t like you get slammed in return. That does everybody a disservice, most of all themselves, because the point of creating is the act itself, and anybody who loves their craft should strive to make it as good as it can be for its own sake.

Myself, I’m one of those people that thinks TGWTG is very hit and miss overall and it could use some better quality control, but there’s something endearing about these specials. I have no idea what it is.

        • http://twitter.com/Linkara19 Lewis Lovhaug

“Myself, I’m one of those people that thinks TGWTG is very hit and miss overall and it could use some better quality control, but there’s something endearing about these specials. I have no idea what it is.”

And that is a fair enough opinion.  ^_^

The thing is that most of us can tell the difference between trolling and criticism (as well as just stating opinions).  Kharhaz’s comment, while not offering constructive criticism, didn’t try to slam anyone, didn’t debase anyone or call people names, plus he could use proper grammar and spelling.  He was offering an opinion and doing so in a civil manner.

Now, if you REALLY want to see some trolling, head over to the Cinema Snob’s website and check out a particular poster whose very name is a troll post. You’ll see it right away, methinks.  XD

          • Anonymous

Criticism is a valuable thing, pitty a lot of folk either can’t take it for the gold it is / some critics cannot leave it at criticism and turn it into an attack.  Its good to see you’re one of those who take it well!

I personally think that the combined working force of all of you guys at TGWTG together in one video/film, makes up for something actually laugh out loud funny. Something that i experience rarely in individual reviews. It’s not that i don’t enjoy them, i’m a true fan, the kind that watches the same video multiple times. But for some reason I find myself waiting for these kind of videos, a tad more anxiously. Congratz to you all for creating another one, they make studying for my finals a lot easyer.

Oh and don’t judge my grammar too hard, i’m from belgium,
and we don’t take kindly to you grammarnazi’s around here ;)

It was nice, it will be fun to see all the interactions between all the characters in the next episodes. I thought the voices where a bit low though and I think it could have used a little more over the top effects, like the intro with the explosion and blood. Imagine for example Spoony Gandalf shooting lightning when he enters the room.

    Great. Great as always.

I already noticed this with Kickassia, and it has been confirmed again: the entire crew of thatguywiththeglasses.com has improved drastically. The acting, the script, and especially the camerawork have really really grown.

There are things on television that are a way from your level, so you can all be proud.

    • dennett316

I wouldn’t go quite that far but I do agree, the camera work has improved greatly since last year.

  • Genesis375

I’ve been hyped for this for months now and it did not disappoint! Great work as always. Also kudos on the effects and musical score, they seem much better then in kickassia (not saying that they were bad in Kickassia just that they have improved).

Can’t wait for the rest of the parts. I wonder if Mati will ever stop searching for the non existent contact lens and end up saving everyone at the end. xD

  • http://www.facebook.com/jnieminen Janne Nieminen

I thought the start was a bit slow, but there was a couple of lines that had me laughing already, like Linkara’s missing beard. I liked Kickassia a lot just because of the fact that the people involved seemed to have such a great time, and this really felt on this viewer side as well. Hopefully you guys had fun doing this one too and we get to share that fun.

Wow… the character introductions were -reaaaaally- corny, and then MarsGirl started speaking Japanese. I had to take a break and listen to heavy metal for 20 minutes…

Did you at least read the subtitles? The whole “daughter of the wolf god Gillian Anderson” line was hilarious. Then again if you never saw the English dub of the movie…

bah, it’s too late to watch this. sure to put it up at 10:00PM.

    watch it tomorrow

  • dennett316

Great start to this, and if all seven parts are this long it’ll be a mini-series rather than a movie.  Several really funny moments and a general improvement in timing, editing and acting have this as a definite thumbs up so far.

Not enough trolling on the comments section yet so – SPOONY WASNT IN THS ENUFF!!!!!  There.

  • Anonymous

    Oh. My. Gawd.

I totally expected Spoony to break out his AK-47 like he did against the Balrog in his Ultima review, but the big shockers for me was Paw’s character-of-choice, followed right up into the “Bowie Bulge”, and then straight to Handsome Tom being the most GIANT nelwyn of all time.

  • http://twitter.com/gelidalex Alex Matthews

Dear god, you all look ridiculous! Especially Jew Wario, I’m pretty sure I collapsed a lung laughing at him.

  • http://UnholyFireDragon.com Unholy Fire Dragon

It’d be a funny surprise there turns out to be a Spooning w/ Spoony reference in that movie. I’d expect you, at one point, being in bed and waking-up to 8-bit Mickey appearing and disappearing around you on and around the bed (similar to a certain clip between JewWario and 8-bit Mickey, weeks or months ago). LOL

  • http://twitter.com/redviv Vivi Roth

That was great. Especially the ladies and JewGoblinKing. And the best Willow ever. To think I was wondering where Spoony was in the group shot… I should know the Walker writing better. :)

What’s up with the sound issues though? Didn’t the production folks have time to check that before you finished some minutes of footage, assuming that it’s a constant issue as the trailer seems to suggest?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1638499827 Steve Riley

I thought this was absolutely HILARIOUS. I will be waiting with the utmost anticipation for future parts.

  • Anonymous

The most hilarious part was when 8-bit Mickey wanted to punch out Critic (wearing the same smile all the way). And oh my God would it be satisfying if he did – definitely too much of that dude already, and it’s only the first part. Overall, pretty solid, JewWario stole the show and good for him.

  • Christopher Boudreau

whoa, what the hell happened to the audio? Its like there was a condenser mic that got blown and they just ended up using the camera’s mic and didn’t notice till post. Its really tragic, couse it could of been a high-mid end production, but it sounds like it was recorded through a cardboard box filled with broken glass half the time. Then the other half is obviously done after the fact. Very jarring. Well, at least its still worth watching for JewWario. He may be the most inadvertently hilarious person iv ever seen.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1498915683 Andrew Boyce

Win. All around, it was funny, and it gave me a good impression as a sequel to Kickassia. I can’t wait for the next premieres!

If there’s one thing I can get behind, it’s a bunch of geeks dressed up in costume, running around having fun. LARP on, TGWTG, LARP on!

Can’t wait to see where this goes!

  • Anonymous

Why does this sound like it was recorded using a microphone from 2001?

Nonetheless, it was pretty entertaining, better so far than I had expected (some awkward writing and the general annoyance of Paw aside).

  • Anonymous

Wow, that’s way too much dorkiness for me. But it’s split up by an occasional good joke, so I’ll see how it turns out.

so far: much better than expected. there were a lot of jokes that made me laugh (and a lot didn’t). it’s always a little bit hit and miss. but so far i like it. to my own surprise i find filmbrain one of the funniest actors… since i’m not the biggest fan of him. but he’s quite funny with his role.

my only complaint: why doug still has such a terrible camera. this isn’t his first feature movie. doesn’t he know anybody with a good audio/video equipment?

Why can’t the team review something? I mean, you’re critics, right? Wouldn’t it be all the more fitting to be drawn into some epic battle against something that is pure evil but has terrible self-esteem so you can rip into it, send it crying home to its mother, and win the adoration and respect that critics everywhere don’t have? Except maybe Ebert, because he invented criticizing or something.

I dunno, between NC’s insistance on fantasy and yet shooting it down every other line, and his pointlessly cruel and mean-spirited persona, he kind of drags the story. He’s so eager to set out on an adventure and yet belittles it and the people he’s forcing into it. It’s more distracting than humorous. I get the irony of it – that in reality we’d never let this guy lead us to the grocery store, let alone on an epic quest for some mystical gauntlet, but it’s like he doesn’t even care about any of it. At least Spoony and Joe and the rest put some acting into it, a little role play, a little emotion beyond smug patronizing douchebag. NC just seems lost on or stubborn about being anything else but the Nostalgia Critic, and nobody likes him. It would be a nice change of pace to see him actually have some passion for something; at least then it would give this quest some credibility. It sucks too because we all know Walker is actually a really great guy, and I’m sure he can pull off better than the same one-dimensional character he played in Kickassia.

Still, the rest of the cast looks great and got some good lines in. So long as they keep NC’s dickery to a minimum this could be a really good story!

    • Anonymous

The idea of a huge cross-over review actually sounds like a pretty good one. I’m not quite sure how exactly they’d pull it off with so many people to account for but it would be really awesome if they did.

I can think of a couple of movies that could do with a good group-ripping into. Primarily the Twilight saga. Or the books. Or anything ever written by Stephanie Meyer.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

Yes. The Twilight Saga could use a full on Ride of the Rohirim group review. Just chew up every little aspect of that series.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Manofmanycoats Robert Cousineau

I didn’t really like Kick-assia, but only because I tend to not like movies or pieces that go for “Stupid Comedy”, like anything Will Ferrel is in. But so far I am really like this. The acting is much better and the jokes are entertaining. Like everybody else seeing Jewario come out with a bowie bulge was just hilarious.

  • http://whywasibanned.com TomeOne

It’s funny how you guys spend so much time deriding and mocking content and then turn around to make equally terrible content yourselves.

    • Anonymous

Yep. Because the content they critique has high production values, is made seriously, and isn’t a fan made parody specifically for the fans of a specific site. Those idiots for even trying!

      • docdoak

Yeah, it is a shitty low budget movie after all. Why complain about something that is obviously crap in the first place and compare it to actual movies. I should have know better.

        • Anonymous

Look, i you think it’s crap then you’re welcome to your opinion, but comparing this to an actual movie with 500 grand behind it is just about as stupid as George Bush taking revenge in an Afghanistan-based terror cell and invading Iran. See how completely out of left-field and idiotic that comparison is? That pretty much sums up my opinion of that comparative analysis.

I really hope you guys don’t try to market this as a movie like the last one. Anyone unfamiliar with the cast will instantly be overwhelmed and 90% of the lines of “dialog” are just spouting the quotes from other, better productions without any context at all.

Also, I hope the irony of having the guy who wrote and is starring in the… video series dressed as a completely silent protagonist wasn’t completely lost on everyone.

Here’s to hoping this isn’t as bad as the last one.

    My thoughts:
    – The villain of the show seems to be little too “serious”, but we’ll see how it turns out
    – Love how the critic is playful, but on the same time very malicious.
    – Spoony should have dressed as Squall, Tidus or some other Final Fantasy character. But then again, he is the only one who could pull off a decent gandalf.
    – JewWario was epic in the small time we saw him. Excellent acting.
    – Film Brain was much funnier than in Kickassia, so good job him. He looks almost insane with that smile.
    – I hope they will end up using Luke’s other personas as well.
    – Phelous was again very disturbing. Scary even. I like.
    – Superb acting by 8-Bit Mickey in the scene where he wanted to assault the critic.
    – Marzgul was awesome as Mononoke Hime. Even speaking in japanese was a great plus.
    – Paw had a lot more screen presence than in Kickassia. His Jeremy Irons was a lot of fun.

    To a more sadder note:
    – Angry Joe, Brad, Linkara, Benzaie, Lindsay, Lupa, Todd, Bennett and Handsome Tom were all pretty forgettable here. Or maybe just outshined by the others.

All in all, loved every bit of it and eagerly waiting to see more. Seems a lot better than Kickassia in terms of production and acting(The president guy brought that down quite a bit).

Hehe, I thought this was hilarious and highly entertaining, although something really weird happened with the audio. In any case I thought this was much better than Kickassia (which I really liked) on just technical standpoints, storytelling, layout etc.

However, I think like the last one, a lot of people are going to dislike this because, let’s face it, a lot of them expect a $50 000 budget with special effects, a six month long shooting with multiple re-takes, and a highly involved script that does more than create humour and celebrate the 3rd year of a fledgling site that provides good quality entertainment consistently at a high rate. You know, people obviously expect you to do better than the stuff you’re reviewing because obviously the production values are going to HAVE to be better and dissection at face value without taking in the context is the only way to go.

Or did I just describe the expectations of a bunch of morons who probably have the same class of intelligence as a thirteen year old girl writing Twilight fanfic? Who can tell anymore? The substance of humanity is just so variable these days what with the internet and all providing high-speed networking and enmeshment of society and I haven’t had my morning dose of painkillers yet so maybe I’m just being a hypocritical jackass who needs to shut the fuck up and take a number?

    • Anonymous

No, we’d really just like to see dialog that isn’t people spouting lines from movies they’ve seen that are out of context to the situations they are in and some original humor. Probably too much to expect though.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

Actually if they went 100% ripped movie dialogue, that would be kind of fun and amusing; mixing up summer blockbusters and old cult classics to mash together some kind of plot would have been an interesting twist.

        • Anonymous

          Yeah, I’d watch that.

      • Anonymous

A little unoriginal dialogue? Well, perish the thought. That just ruined it completely. There’s no coming back from that one. It’s a fairly simple layout, what the hell do you actually want from the script? Personally, I thought the humour was pretty funny, and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one, although I’ve been known to be wrong about these kinds of things.

If you don’t find this funny and you don’t like it, then fine. You’re completely entitled to your opinion and I welcome you to express it on this account. Constructive criticism, fine fine.

However, my little tiny complaint here is that there are a lot of repetitive complaints (see the irony there) which basically centre around missing that this was a celebratory cross-over designed for fans of the site, designed to be something relatively fun to make and watch, not taken seriously, with low production costs, limited time, and the necessity of an uninvolved script. And for all the complaints about the “out of context” scenarios and dialogue, there’s some real vapid stupidity behind the fact that none of the people who complained seemed to look at this thing in context.

Shall I direct you towards the next caller down the line?

    • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/DTAMRNQI5I5A4MLLJ7A5SPFNW4 Toshiba

50,000 budget wow, Are you sure? Hope they used own money instead of duping some investors.

      • Anonymous

Oh no, I’m fairly sure they found some poor sap in a forest somewhere who made a couple of hundred thousand from cultivating Yggdrasil in his backyard, and just ran the gauntlet on that one. Because, you know, money is a horrible thing to be without these days.

I like Film Brain’s character as well.  Should be funny to see what his plan is to get NC to like him again.

      • http://www.facebook.com/franman781 Kevin Franzen

Film Brain quickly became one of my favorites on TGWTG about the time he first joined (‘Wolverine’ still being my favorite of his reviews), and the constant sucking up to the critic was one of the best running gags in Kickassia, only made funnier by the betrayal of the NC when he shot Santa Christ. Now we get to see the jealousy angle, and having it with Luke Mochrie is perfect.

This makes me curious to where they could go with this on the 4th year anniversary. I know this maybe a bit early for this to be brought up since this is only day 1 of the 3rd anniversary special, but it’s still something that is in the back of my mind. Like if the entire 4th year revolves around horror movie stereotypes and Film Brain is the psycho-killer. He may be trying to “become” the nostalgia critic.

        You know, just a thought…

As has been said, people go into this with way too high of expectations. Really what you should be expecting is a parody movie, meant to be derivative of other flicks whilst adding a comedic flavor as comes from the various personas interacting with one another. Everyone expects this to be like the next big thing with complete originality, but it’s supposed to be a lampoon on various movie tropes in a show of their love for movies and having fun. I, personally, was quite happy with this part. The beginning dragged a bit but once Joe got into the picture I started having an awesome time. Very funny, surprisingly good production, and a great showcase of the site’s talent. Even the people I don’t like in reviews turn out great performances.

  • Anonymous

Hello all. Let me start by saying although I love reading comment this is my first time ever posting one. I don’t have a problem with posting comments but usually there are several people who have already stated anything that I would’ve posted.

While I liked Spoony’s and Nostalgia Critic’s reviews a lot everybody else is just ok to me. I was really skeptical that Kickassia would be any good but to my surpirse I thought it was really good. The brawl turned out to be meh to me.

Now, about “Suburban Knights” . Most of you have seen the other specials as well as the first part of this one so you pretty much know what you are going to get. If you don’t enjoy the novelty of having your favorite reviewers in a super low budget, fan service cheesefest then why bother wasting your time? I watch part one and I couldn’t stop laughing but If you don’t like I think it would be better just to skip them. Whats the point of watching something you know you are not going to like and commenting on how bad it is?

    • Anonymous

Thankyou! You said that a lot better than I tried to.

“Whats the point of watching something you know you are not going to like and commenting on how bad it is?”

You can’t be serious. Bitching about stuff that you don’t like is the
JOB of the NC, Spoony and most other TGWTG members. Yet other people
      aren’t allowed to do that?

      • Anonymous

I never said “you’re not allowed” I said “what’s the point?” that is a question. I am not an internet reviewer and while i enjoy spoony bashing Highlander 2, Captain America, etc I never watched any of those movies and I probably wont ever watch them.

I am not an internet reviewer nor do I aspire to be one but If you like to watch crap you don’t like then thats fine I guess but I still don’t understand the point.

I’ve watched bad movies before but it was never on purpose. How can you watch something you already know you’re not going to like and keep coming back for more punishment? If are trying to become an internet reviewer or a riff trax commentator then I get why you watch crappy stuff but for the average joe it just seems like a waste of time.

This was hysterical and awesome. It definitely ranks up there with the humor-levels of The Gamers, and Dorkness Rising. I can’t wait for the BluRay release already.

I am seriously hoping the set-up for “Heart!” actually saving the day in the end is completely subverted and ends up being a total waste of time…. plot-wise.

The only time I’ve ever seen the power of “Heart!” used properly was in 8-bit theater where Black Mage’s hadoken was fueled off of love… and thus every time the spell was cast, a little bit of the love in the universe was burned away, and thus the divorce rate increased.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Colin-Snow/648690665 Colin Snow

So I’ve been reading peoples comments here and on tgwtg.com for some time and every time I see people commenting about how something could have been better, they would have does this, or “when is the next episode of “blah” coming out.”

People while they are considered internet celebs they are still just people like you. They, also like you, have a passion for something and apparently they also have the background, knowledge, and personality to have people like them.

For those that don’t like certain episodes of a show, or the Anniversary Crossovers, why don’t you go get a few camcorders, learn a bit about video production, and make your own reviews and such?

I’m not saying “Put Up or Shut Up” what I am saying is that if you have the time and energy to rip on internet reviews *snicker* then why not get your own blip.tv account and make your own videos reviewing / ripping on something you like but find annoying or ridiculous (Dungeons and Dragons movie or Mazes and Monsters in the case of Spoony)

    • http://twitter.com/BustermanZero Peter Dawson

Because that defeats the point of critics. Critics don’t need to be able to do better. This is best exemplified if you change it from a reviewer and his critic to a chef and his critic. If a chef’s food sucks, you don’t need to be a chef yourself to point it out. Granted, the better critics do tend to know from experience but that doesn’t make the others less valid.

Still I do like the series, I just hate that kind of retort. I hear it from Twilight fans all the time.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Colin-Snow/648690665 Colin Snow

Peter, thank you for your example and I do agree in part. Within your example usually people that have eaten that chefs food will say why the food was not good to their friends and family. The thing that mainly gets to me is like the poster “David” up further who simply said “This sucks!” if you are willing to offer your….insight… into something it always helps to elaborate on the why or how something….”sucks”….. simply stating those two words without intelligent follow up, like with what you gave me, is somewhat pointless.

With your example again say a friend came up to you and said not to go to restaurant X for steak/burgers/pizza/etc, you proceed to ask why and they respond with “Because.” No further explanation, just simply “Because”. That is kinda what I see alot of and that is part of what my above post was commenting on.

Today I instinctively went to this site for updates, not even thinking that this would be up, and when I saw this had been posted I actually screamed. I think I’ve watched it three or four times today. I had really high hopes for this year’s TGWTG anniversary, and, as usual, I was not disappointed. Eagerly awaiting Part 2.

I think the best part so far was seeing everyone in their costumes and introducing their characters. I don’t think I stopped laughing that entire time. All of you are amazingly funny and the costumes chosen for each character could not possibly have been better.

Also I cheered a little when Spoony walked in the room.

I’ll admit, I thought this was going to be a little bit too corny, but I’m happily surprised.

The camera work was great, the script very solid, and the constant breaking of the fourth wall was great.

I like this a lot. The writing is definitely a lot less cringe worthy then Kickassia was. Not that kickassia was bad, just that a lot of it’s cheesiness made me cringe a lot. This though, has been really funny. I only cringed at the rock eater scene. Cant wait for part 2.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

I think the cringe-factor was a big part of the planning process. It might explain why the Nostalgia Critic’s persona is so malicious, to the point that he will contradict himself just to continue being so.

Not sure if I’m enjoying this tbh. However I mostly feel that about the past 2 specials you guys have done, too. I do find Spoony’s overacting enjoyable and there are some really well-written lines within, albeit VERY rarely.

However the only highlight I really enjoyed was Joe’s initial reaction – and I usually dislike Joe’s acting and comedy – however it became too contrived. If he had just came in with the ‘NO, NO, NO!’ sketch alone without any further dialogue and sat down and moped, I – and I’m sure many others – would’ve gotten the subtle joke straight away and it would’ve been more effective.

But damn, you guys are just making this for a laugh, right? I feel like I’m ripping this to shreds!

    Keep enjoying yourselves!

The beginning is rough. The audio is really low, sounds like someone is talking in the opposite direction of the microphone with the gain really low… I was struggling to hear and started getting really dis-interested (7.1 speakers set to matrix)… This also happened with Kickassia last year…

Other than that it picked up half way through and got my attention back. I could actually hear what was going on. Enjoying the rest so far…

You cant tell Spoony to shut up! Does he not know who the fuck he is talking to? Epic fail on his part! Spoony is way better than him any way! >:)

I hate to say this on Spoonys website… But I have known about Angry Joe longer than Spoony and he is the best actor here, as in he can emote the best and actually get lost in a role or a scene and seems really natural about it… BUT! You can NOT deny Spoony’s AWESOME presence in this movie. Spoony really steals the show here in my opinion! Good job Spoony!

Alright, after watching the whole movie, and reading a ton of comments on it, I think people who really think this is bad are overreacting. Spoony had said it in his commentary of Kickassia that no one in the CA specials are really CLASSICALLY trained actors. So I don’t know what some of you are expecting. Marzgurl’s Japanese? Really? Why complain about something that really should not bother you. The audio quality? That was probably a technical issue with filming in the winter with wind in Chicago and they wanted to keep the audio consistent. God, some people! Whiners that can’t get behind people just having some fun on camera and at least trying to make us laugh irritate the living crap out of me.

Spoony as Gandalf? Critic as Link? Linkara as King Arthur? Cinema Snob as Indiana Jones?

    Complete WIN!

    Funny thing about this movie.
Some of the jokes got funnier after Boldly Flee.
