Spoony, you need to play the red-headed wife of the gatecleaner more. It’s one of the few things that make me chuckle out loud.

Shut up in there.  Mommy’s on the rock.  XD

Malachite should have gotten the new iRock, so he wouldn’t have been a hypocrit. Everyone’s got one nowadays.

I gotta get one of those. I heard you can get one from anywhere, and I do mean ANYWHERE!

No, he needs to hold out for the iRock 4.0–now with swirly blue thing!  ;)

I believe he’s referring to the one from the Evil Dead series.

      • http://twitter.com/RocMegamanX RocMegamanX

If it was the one from the Evil Dead series…

If they did bring Ma-Ti back, he’d probably turn evil.

  • Anonymous

Hey, that guy who kept saying that he was Mati was just a loud-mouthed angry idiot who really hated Ted Turner… I wonder if my dad had another son whom he never told me about.

  • Anonymous

Very good. Not great but still good. I’ll give it 7-8/10

Better than Hangover II and Green Lantern at least.Doug needs to work on endings though. Like Kickassia it’s ending was a little abrupt and let it down a little. You think Spoony will do a commentary for this? I’d like to hear what he has to say about this one.

i saw that coming. not mati dieing. but him saving the world.

Looks like the next anniversary special might be Critics vs. Cthulhu…which would be pretty awesome, actually.

    • http://UnholyFireDragon.com Unholy Fire Dragon

And I expect it to have a lot of goofy singing, just like that South Park parody of it. LOL

  • http://UnholyFireDragon.com Unholy Fire Dragon

I loved everything except the cliched music and singing of that song after the death scene. I fucking HATE that overused b.s.-ing piece of crap of a song (but hey, love it all you want, people; I just plain hate it). I’m SO glad you guys didn’t ring a deep-toned bell at the second after his death! And I do admit, making Linkara finally sing at the end was pretty clever (I didn’t listen to it though; I would’ve rather have a better song choice, such as a happy song with high-tempo and some added unexpected dancing with random characters popping-up everywhere).

The part where Nostalgia Chick switches with your friend was pretty clever and funny. I loved the Angry Joe line-fail (“you killed my w/e, prepare to die!” lol), Spoony’s fumblings (ex.: *drops his staff and throws bird seed packets*) and reactions (*dizzy* “I saw the sun rise and fall twice, so it might be more than once”) and the whole dbz-style action, including the “unexpected” (yeah… not really…) “heart ftw” scene.

When I saw the cliche of Ma-ti being dead after a dramatic battle, I was really worried you’d go for the “cry until he’s revived” cliche. I’m SO glad you guys didn’t go there!

    Overall, it was awesome. :-)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-Greer/100000495156458 Stephen Greer

Not to be mean but, the reason they used the song was to reference the death of spock from star trek II, they started it with the “Stuff out of danger” line and “Do not greve critic, it is logical” Once you start that sequence you are comitted to amazing grace.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVIt0DYKssI The referenced scene

Its a parody tradition, even family guy did the scene with amazing grace. Yes it is over used, and the bag pipes make it over the top in the cheese dept, but its part of a tradition.

Also i was expecting to see the Ashes come to rest on a new planet somewhere to be reborn.

Once again I am floored by the abilities of this very talented crew to put together a feature length movie every year on very little budget.  Very entertaining overall, good job.

  • http://www.facebook.com/alexa.w.1 Alexa White

I really liked this. At first I thought it was slow but once the intro was out of the way the plot took off and made me laugh and cry. I knew Ma-Ti was going to die, but it was still sad to me. These anniversary videos get better each year.

Year 5 will be to rescue whales from the past from an evil gang of evil sharks who are commanded by an evil whaler from on board the Titanic. And then the whales will talk to a giant pencil & golfball in space.

And if you think that sounds stupid, Year 6 has Critic meeting (a) God in the center of the galaxy.

      • http://UnholyFireDragon.com Unholy Fire Dragon

But then it turns out that the “golf ball in space” is actually the robot ball from Portal 2. LOL

Loved watching this, as well as seeing Suede again. If that’s a re-introduction, that is friggin’ awesome! Though it was unfortunate that he didn’t do a lot/get used a whole lot in the end.

Though I enjoyed it, there were a few little things here and there that did bother me, and a truly big one was when the Nostalgia Critic reflected on what was said by the Voice of the Ancient World, when he wasn’t actually there. That was with SpoonyMage’s party!

I did like the back story on the Gauntlet, though. That was a pretty awesome touch… and lol, the Power Glove… it’s so bad!

Ah, that was SO frigging much fun! Thank you Spoony (and everyone) for all of the work that went into this. Dare we hope for commentary now?

  • Anonymous

Heh…. This special is just filled with cameos. I wasn’t exactly sure who was under that cloak, but the girth seemed familiar.

I think it’s glaringly obvious that Critic should be putting on the glove and using the magic, which is pretty much always my complaint with storied specials by these guys. They have these tools, even directly in their hands, and they don’t use them for convenience. At least Linkara is getting better at that, and Spoony has never run into that. And, with that, Malachite isn’t a kind of guy to mess around. It’s always a shame when it comes to the climax.

    Spoony the Grey! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ahhh Nella…. I knew you were at the anniversary but I was wondering where you were in the movie!

I knew there would be an ironic twist. Him having a cellphone, perfect timing.

Ma’ti twist was also extremely obvious, but to have Bargo on screen is always a treat regardless. As was the Spoony one, but at least now we won’t ever be confused by someone dashing around him.

Todd’s good at burning things… Good to note. I’ll not get near him with a rag.

I wonder if Linkara really wanting a song is based off that thing that Spoony suggested for the Brawl in his commentary. I mean, of course it’s a bit about Camelot, but still that might have been an idea Doug reserved. Pretty nice song voice though, considering the only capacity we’ve ever heard him in length is Harvey Finevoice which is obviously forced.

The Necronomicon isn’t a legend >> And the Bum has a mailbox?

Can’t wait for your commentary Spoony. It will be a while, given your situation, but it’s still wanted :D

Overall, it was a very entertaining movie. Best out of the anniversary’s thus far and did a lot with trying to make every character unique and with specific flaws. The cameos were simply amazing, the jokes were solid, but the serious aspects of the story were sub-par. Still, as I said before I watch this for the interaction and the characters all of you guys play have a lot to them. Now another year of content ’till the next one.

A fantastic finale! I cried, I laughed, I’m hungry for oatmeal, and I got that Linkara musical number I was hoping for! You guys all did an incredible job!

Seth MacFarlane is on the internet somewhere masturbating and wishing he could rip off geek-culture this well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Nathan-Ellis/100002419726549 Nathan Ellis

this was awesome! i got to see handsome tom and 8 bit mickey do a fastball special, avgn as a foul mouthed light fairy, and spoony in drag again. poor ma-ti, at least we got that dude in the suede back. this was way better than kickassia and the epic brawl. i even liked the ending and i usually can’t stand the bum.

Also. someone called the gauntlet being the power glove in the first video.

So can we haz final fantasy X-2 review nao?!

This was a great finale. I thought the entire epic was hilarious and loved it for ripping off everything from D&D larping to the power glove (we even got the gatekeeper!).

You guys did an amazing job and this has to be my favourite anniversary event thus far. The storyline was a cheesy parody, but it was the character interactions that made this series. It’s always awesome to see everyone playing off each other, and doing so well at it. The quality has really improved since Kickassia and its obvious how everything from the production values to the acting is steadily upping the game. Yeah, there are still always things that can be improved on – it would be surprising if there weren’t – but these en-masse crossovers are getting better and better each year and I already can’t wait for next year’s! Just as everyone’s reviewing skills are getting better, so are they getting better at ensemble work like this, and I think it really says something about the growing quality in TGWTG productions and the great things we can expect in the future.

I know that this sort of thing doesn’t always appeal to everyone and that there are already a number of people who don’t like this production – which is fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion – and I can understand why and where the criticisms for this are going to come in – and I may even agree with them (some of them, anyway) – but I still thought that the entirety of Suburban Knights was overall very entertaining and very funny, and I really hope that others enjoyed it as much as I did.

Thankyou for making something so entertaining to watch, and for putting the time and effort in to create a brilliant 3rd anniversary celebration that I’ve no doubt will be debated, contested, and praised as much as Kickassia was. Looking forward to more great things from you guys and seeing what the rest of 2011 will bring.

This has been a fantastic short movie from the people at ThatGuyWithTheGlasses.com– easily the best of the anniversary specials (despite the lack of emphasis on Spoony… or Dr. Insano, for that matter). I hope they put it on DVD, ’cause I would love to see it unabridged, and preferably with features. If the next anniversary special really is some sort of horror film-parody featuring the Necronomicon, count me in!

This year anniversary had its moments but seems to lack in consistency, timing and structure.
some jokes were just references (like the star trek, power glove).
But just making references is not funny. Do something with it, give it a twist.

Also i would really like to see the subplot of filmbrain vs luke and the favoritism by the Nostalgia Critic resolved.

This anniversary video suffers from the same problems the “[genre] Movies” (Scary Movie, Epic Movie …) suffer. If you know what i mean.

    Still; overall it was entertaining.

I just feel that if the work and effort that everyone contributed had been
spent individually on making own videos, that these videos would be better.
Especially since you don’t have to deal with problem that certain styles and personalities don’t mix well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jnieminen Janne Nieminen

What a great ending to this movie. I had a really great time watching it, but man, the bar for next year is set pretty high now.

  • Ceherz

all in all it was OK. i kinda prefer kickassia though. my biggest problem with this movie is the bad guys in general and the people the 2 partys encounter: they’re not funny at all. not every character has to be funny of course but this movie production definitely lacks of quality (or production values) to make a villain look really bad ass or something else than ridiculous. also, i think the overall timing of the jokes and thrown in cameos didnt work as well as in kickassia. or maybe this is due to the fact that we already saw countless cameos and surprises in the other 2 anniversary special.

as for next year, i’d do something totally new for the 4th anniversary special. because this kind of anniversary-movie already begins to be predictable and the novelty effect of the sheer fact that all the critics get together in front of the camera is gone. i hope doug will come up with something new and refreshing next time.

I love re watching the group shots to see everyone’s reactions.

Spoony puts Ian McKellen to shame. Spoondalf’s celebratory dance after Malecide’s demise made me piss my pants with laughter.

The dude that played Malecide is awesome. He was good in the NC’s Christmas special thingy, but he was awesome in this. Decent acting and he flips around a lot, what else needs to be said.

I think the first half of the script needed a little more polishing, but the last 2 parts were great.

I think everyone did great to a good job. I think Rob and the woman who played the witch did the best job. The low point was Tom, but his acting was a step up from last year.

    I very much enjoyed this.

Aw man, I was hoping for a Big Lebowski joke in the funeral scene.

    • Anonymous

It WAS a Big Lebowski joke. Anything more would just ruin it. There’s enough forced references here as it is.

  • Anonymous

I loved this, way better than Kickassia IMO.

Everyone’s performances were top notch… I at first really wanted an Insano vs Malachite battle as the end, like an ultimate science vs magic thing, but Ma-Ti vs Malachite was even better.

Kind of felt like there was missing potential however.  I really wanted some magic stuff to show up to give everyone their game / characters powers (and weaknesses / limitations) which would be lost when the stone was destroyed.  Felt like there was some good jokes/scenes there that would have had some awesome potential for the last battle

A great deal of these comments are reviews. Most of them are fine and well thought out and come with some valid points.

There are a few, though, that bring specific actors’ talents into question. Again, most of them are okay.

But there are a small number I’ve seen that don’t even know who the reviewer is that they’re questioning. NostalgiaChick and Handsome Tom have both been called stiff by various people who clearly don’t know them, or what they’re like in their reviews.

    Background, people. Learn it.

It helps to have someone who knows a bit of martial arts to be your villain! Lots of payoff to that choice in this one. He looked badass.

But yes. Loved it, but sad no Doctor Insano :(

I loved “Kickassia”, it was epic in every way possible, but this… This is just amazing! :-D

It had a fun story, the acting was great, the jokes were plenty (not to mention hilarious) and Angry Joe’s “Emigo Toyota”… I was laughing so hard I cried a bit!

I love it when you guys get together! Can’t wait for next year’s anniversary!

  • Chammy

Wowsers, that was a fun ride :) Now I see that you didn’t just cast Orlando for his luxurious onyx locks, though I remember him doing some martial arts in the last film he was in, so I shouldn’t have been surprised.

Everyone did really well in this! Even Handsome Tom had some great moments and wasn’t always overshadowed by 8-Bit Mickey as usual. Though Mickey does often steal the show of the two, and for good reason. It felt like everyone had something to do here, though, and that made it feel like a really good climax and worth watching. And, of course, Spoony was awesome with his involuntary Super Man flying attack ;)

I seem to recall hearing somewhere that Bhargav didn’t really like the Ma-Ti character being what he’s known for, though I can’t possibly think he isn’t having fun here. Still, I wonder if this is his way of killing the character off and putting it to rest for other things?

  • Anonymous

Quite, quite good. Really good, in fact. Many special effects here were very well used. Even though it was heavily hinted on that Mati was going to defeat Malachite (the only second option being Spoondalf’s ring), I never expect him to end the way it did.

I have to ask, though… If Malachite hates technology so much, why didn’t he object heavier on the fact his previous magic jewel was now on a piece of (crappy) technology? Put aside the iPhone joke, the thing about the Power Glove bothers me the most.

All in all, an awesome special. It started slow, but gained speed and potential at great steps. Well done!

I’d be lying it i said i didn’t see Ma-ti having the ring and saving the day all along….but what happend next…bloody hell i didn’t see that coming…i thought there’d be a joke….granted there was but still O.o

    OH and i also had a “WTF…..THATS SO AWSOME!” moment when i saw Linkara’s costume change to the Star Trek movie uniform….though that may just be my inner star trek fan talking ^^;;

ether way this whole film as a…well….whole…is EPIC seriously though kickassia was good this blows it out the water ^^ hell so much so that im gonna buy the dvd when its released….if there is one….which i hope there is….^^

…..OH and the “I saw the sun set and rise twice” line ^^ awesome…..so was the martial arts….and the fights and the….-gets dragged away while still ranting about epicness-

I did kind of see Ma-Ti saving the day. Why else would the plot keep reminding us about him unless he was going to do something important?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

For some reason, just seeing Noah with a copy of Final Fantasy X-2 makes me feel better…

While the corniness of Kickassia still exists, at least the plot is coherent. The ending was a bit confusing. How was Ma-Ti’s ring connected to Malachite?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

It’s the ring created by alchemy that repels magic created by Malachite’s old friend Aeon, I think, was his name.

Great effort by Channel Awesome! While I will admit up front that I preferred Kickassia’s story, it turns out that Suburban Knights is much funnier overall.  Great comic writing, timing, and zany zany schemes.

Highlight of the special has to be Snow White going feral on a puppet cat. Had me in stitches. Stitches, I tell you!

P.S. my therapist thanks you for all the trauma from LiNC’s upskirt shots. He’s got years of steady work now.

Overall it was a great special, even though it started out slow it picked up later and was very funny! I especially liked Spoony’s Wizard and the “Ancient Voice”. R.I.P. Matti

    • http://twitter.com/Jake_Orton josh adams

Yes and James Rolfe was awesome as the Ancient Voice. It just wouldn’t be a TGWTG aniverrsry(sp?) without him.

  • http://twitter.com/justjohn2x John William

Awesome overall. Great effort on behalf of everyone on and off screen! Phelous and mark deserve extra congrats on behalf of the amazing special effects, seriously that shit was pro! Keeping in mind that this is done on a shoe string budget with no real world movie production skills(and i mean that in the highest regard to everyone at channel awesome) and the actors for the most part not being traditionally trained it was one hell of a effort!  I have to admit, I was kinda expecting more but thats just because I am so spoiled with the  high quality of the vids tgwtg puts out. Some of the jokes went on for to long and to took to long to get to the punchline and sometimes fell short, lindsey who was awesome, I felt her part was just a little hokey but that was no fault of her own. It was the script written for her. But over all, great effort and I’ll buy the dvd when it comes out to show my support and gratitude of channel awesome/tgwtg.

lol well i mean for this type of “movie”i guess amazing went a lil to far but i meant for a “homemade flick”

This tops Kickassia by a long shot. The ending was a little weak but otherwise this was just awesome. I’m a little disappointed that there was no epic battle between Malachite (or however you spell it) and Dr. Insano with the whole science vs. magic thing. Just seemed to fit, ya know? That would have made it a blockbuster IMO.

My favorites were Spoony just being Spoony and Joe and Lupa still going at it with the guns. And the appearance of Suede of course! But the fight on the playground is the best scene in the whole movie. I hope you guys do this again sometime! And I’m looking forward to X-2 and hopefully the conclusion of you and Linkara’s “Warrior” reviews.

  • Anonymous

I was kinda hoping Dr. Insano would appear at the end and there would be an epic battle between magic and SCIENCE!
This ending was pretty awesome though, and I’m really hoping that the hook at the end means that we can look forward to a zombie movie next year!

Ugh. I’m sure they tried hard with this, and while there were some chuckle-worthy moments, by and large this bloated mess was even worse than Kickassia. Whomever thought this up needs to realize that well over half of the reviewers on this site have a schtick that’s funny for a few minutes when they’re focused on reviewing something, and that’s about it. Trying to use them in a 2 hour+ movie is just an awful idea. And if they really HAVE to do it, how about you don’t use every single one? Would the plot of this movie really have been so much worse in their eyes if the main characters numbered less than the 20 or 30 they had? Would it have been so insulting if maybe half of TGWTG’s site showed up as cameos or bit parts instead of main characters? Maybe that would have streamlined this pile into something more enjoyable.

Oh, and actually focusing on jokes would have been nice. But hey, that’s just my opinion, feel free to rage and scream about it. I just know I’ll be glad when they start doing actual reviews again.

Well these guys are critics, they review other peoples movies. Do you know where I am going with this? The movies and games, they mock and redicule, their creators could say same thing. Make something better. From what I seen apart from Malikites character this was pretty bad. Citics have done a bad job as the people they criticise.

Kevin’s Comment Immediately Below: Not Really Worth Much

Watching Ma-Ti Kick Ass for Once in his Miserable Existence: PRICELESS -:D

  • Anonymous

Here’s my take on the whole series:

THE GOOD – Featured Spoony as Gandalf!  Funny and original jokes coupled with top-tier graphics.  You get to watch Nostalgia Critic nail himself a dozen times!  Ma-Ti, from Captain Planet, kicks ass!

THE BAD – Some jokes were overextended, like the scenes with Phelous and the action figures (which seemed to serve no purpose in the story).  Some people are having problems with the Nostalgia Chick.

THE UGLY – Honestly, it should have been better.  These actors are funny, but you can’t prove it in this movie, because there are borrowed jokes or overextended ones; granted they are original.  In my opinion, it felt out of character for Malachite to use technology, being how he is meant to totally oppose it.  Yes, I know he is meant to come across as a hypocrite, but it didn’t stick with me for some reason.  He was the character you were meant to take seriously.

Overall, I look forward to next year’s movie.  There’s definitely room available to top this one I’m sure.

    • Anonymous

Honestly I saw no original jokes in this entire “movie” at all. Nostalgia Critic getting nailed in the crotch a couple dozen times? Not only was it just the same shot 30 times over, but that joke is almost as stale as the Nostalgia Critic himself. Also, “top-tier” graphics? Were we watching the same thing? Lens flare galore and a bunch of stock graphics does not make high quality graphics. Honestly, I didn’t pay anything for the movie and I feel more ripped off than Transformers 3.

What even worse is that the critics in general are doing some of the stuff they criticize others for doing :(.  Good movie teared up a bit at the end but could of been a lot better.

This was GOOD! Much better then Kickassia; in the same league as the first anniversary. I loved how every reviewer got their signature bits put in the film and I liked the cameo appearances. It’s obvious it gets better each year. Good work Channel Awesome! I will continue to click on your advertisements.

I don’t know what’s worse: the fact that me (a guy in his early 20′s) is watching this or the fact that people in their late 20′s/early 30′s are MAKING this. Call it whatever you want, but it’s a bunch of adults in cheap Halloween costumes playing make-believe.

Reading the comments some of them were a lil harsh, but I think maybe next year dont have 75% of tgwtg in one movie try to take over the world once again and have these  ”epic” battles, Not trying to bash but the fastforward motion and cartoon punch sound effects and the shakey camera thing has gotten old. How about a week of cross over reviews and maybe a live skype q and a?  maybe the anniversary week would be a good time to do the charity drive? Or maybe, if there is a  movie with the gang of tgwtg, How about them  playing  actual fictional characters (not just caricatures of themselves) in  a “movie” that does not mention anything about tgwtg or their vid reviews and the fourth wall constantly being broken. These are just thoughts, and in my previous post I DID give high praise to the effort and I still stand by that.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Robert-Quinn/606326465 Robert Quinn

Man, this thing had some great moments, but I just can’t get past somethings. I know exactly what will make these movies suck less. Cut the fighting by a TON and make the jokes short and sweet.  This movie started out really funny, but when they started the adventure and fighting it all started to be less funny and more hammy and slap stick. Some people were awesome (spooney and jew wario) and well, others weren’t.

These things ARE getting better, but still aren’t quite there yet.

Is it me, or is it f***ing pathetic this does a better job ripping off Spock’s line than Transformers 3?

I had hoped the “okay let’s fight for real” would lead to some decently choreographed bits.  I know most people don’t have fighting abilities, and I know time constraints make shooting any sort of combat difficult, but come on.

Kickassia was far better.  Someone else said it, but I’ll say it again.  Would it really be that bad to have a much smaller main cast and have cameos for the rest?  Maybe a rotating cast for the films created.  I wouldn’t mind if one year Spoony’s role was downsized to a gatekeeper cameo or Dr. Insano cameo if the next year saw a film with him getting a decent part.  In fact, I think he’s probably in this too much, but then I also think his bits tend to be some of the few that work.  Angry Joe’s bits work well, as well as Cinema Snob, but otherwise it just wasn’t that funny.

It’s hard to write a good script, I get that.  This was not a good script.  This entire film was based largely in LARPing, which takes beyond an exceptionally good writer to make even decently funny.  The only time “Conan” was funny was when it was pointed out a Frenchman was playing an Austrian, and that it was sure to be confusing.  “Arwen” was boring.  Even “Arthur” was mediocre at best, and we all know Linkara is better than that.  If this was something a group of friends put together over a weekend I would say good job and move on, but this group has so much more potential.

I look forward to the next project.  With a group as intelligent as this group is, it should be better.  I’m really sorry if I came off as being some negative prick, and I don’t want to be discouraging.  Thank you Spoony and everyone at TWGTG for all the work you put into this.

Whoa! I think thats the best ending credits that I have ever seen in any movie ever. It brings all of the characters to life so to speak and really makes this into a real movie for me. I had to skip past Linkaras song at the end though, worst part of the movie. If it had music and was original that would of been great. But it was just cringe inducing and unwatchable. Sorry Linkara(not sure if im saying his name right).

  • IHeart28

Great ending! I was so sad with Ma-Ti’s death but at least he went out like a really badass dude. Anyway there was so much hilarity in here like Spoony being flicked and transported around the world twice in a row as well as Critic’s crotch getting constantly beaten.

And we have a lead on what’s coming up for the fourth anniversary! :D

Why is Spoony’s fanbase mostly consist of snobbish ignoramuses who bash so many of these films. I think Spoony’s fanbase has always been kind of crazy. They complain so much. At least most of them anyway. I honestly can’t help but wonder how Spoony deals with such a snobbish fanbase who expect only the highest quality of entertainment and nit pick every single tiny detail. It could be worse though. It could be AVGN’s fanbase. Now they are downright psychopathic.
