Oh the temptation to say first…Looks good, not much into Snobs stuff myself

    • Jorge Guerreiro

You have to check him, dude. He’s the best movie reviewer out there on the web.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sam-Lewis/100000578718296 Sam Lewis

Hehe, you sound like my friend. i actually like him in everything Ive seen him in, it’s his content that scares me off.

        • SevenBegore

Can’t blame ya for that. Not everyone wants to hear a guy talk about something called Rape Squad.

        • DOUG GLASSMAN

You should totally start with “Child Bride”, then. Nothing offensive there!

          Hehehe…

Really, though, if you ever want to start watching the Snob reviews, start with “The Geek”.

4:35 “But why have a cock fight? It didn’t make any goddamn sense.”

That’s what I said when I saw ‘The Rum Diary’.

Took long enough for someone else to show up. Guess no one is really a fan of “The Bruno Mattei Show”.

It’s not really the concept of the show that bugs me personally; it’s just the delivery. Having the cast hang out at a bar and making the whole thing black and white doesn’t really add anything. The whole thing comes off like a mediocre VLog.

Actually, a regular VLog of a movie would be somewhat more entertaining because everyone would be in their element, and more likely to speak off the cuff and get really into the analysis. Maybe it’s me, but everyone here sounds bored.

The best example of a VLog movie review I can think of are the Brad Jones car reviews. Everyone’s still hyped from seeing the movie, and the whole experience is still fresh. It’s a lot better than a bunch of bored people in a bar trying to remember a scene from forever ago.

      • http://twitter.com/thecinemasnob Brad Jones

The idea for the show came from seeing a lot of different roundtable discussions on people like Kubrick, Scorsese, etc; and we thought it’d be fun to do a similar thing with someone on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Bruno Mattei.  The black and white is just to make it look pretentious, even though it’s about cheesy Bruno movies.  It’s definitely not for everyone’s tastes, but we like it =)

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

If your going to parody the style of lots of famous directors getting together, why not imitate how they speak and act for comedic effect?

Occasionally you do these little skits or jokes for extra punch in you “Brad goes to the Movies” reviews (like when your wife wrote on her hand and everyone thought it was real), and it may fit here too.

Whatever, it’s your thing, do what you want. :/

          • http://twitter.com/thecinemasnob Brad Jones

That’d be pretty funny.  This show though isn’t a spoof or a parody, it’s just a genuine discussion show, and filmed in that style.  It’s not meant to be comedic, it’s just a group of friends talking about Bruno movies =)

          • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MCK6CIYZ2C55FES3NW4BAOTG4E Christina

May if they were at home, but doing an over-the-top parody while filming yourself in a public bar? Bad idea. They’d risk getting thrown out for disturbing other guests.

        • mattanus

As someone who has really liked you in the past and have had friends turned on to you…. i just don’t dig it… I’m gonna throw a dick-ish reality check your way (because I love you). Through Spoony’s post-modern cross-overs, I have grow to discover you, learn about you and follow you. You know what you’re talking about, speak well, and don’t apologize for your opinions. Rock on. You’re not going to let one guy, me, change your mind about how you run your entertainment. But, here I go…. doing “featurette style interviews” that truly huge, huge directors did when we were born in the eighties or before doesn’t fit with the grindy-housey thing. Even if it did, this is cheap and lazy. It was done out of necessity in those days. Be your own “voice.” Worse, the quality of conversation isn’t there in this one. It should have been just Spoony and You. You two always carry the ship. Always. And the pretentious film color for hommage, you’re right — it IS pretentious, and not ironically. I think a location change would be good, or even just keep it color in the film. The more self-aware you are, the less genuine it seems to me. There’s a clear desire to pay hommage to the Greats with this style, but it’s just not worthy, or it’s going over people’s heads. Again, this all sounds terribly harsh, and you’re like “fuck this guy”, but believe me — I love you guys and you’ve given me entertainment for a long time, but if you want to hear someone being 100% honest and really give actual feedback… for real…. well, thinking you have 30 minutes of stuff people want to sit at their computers and listen to is delusional. Whose conversation, aside from Kubrick’s or Scorsese, could pull that off? This includes long, long, long uncut, backseat, midnight showing movie reviews. Edit. Make a product. Viewers don’t have that kind of time to watch in one sitting, nor do some have the desire to sit at a computer to hear the funny parts of a rant I promised them would come if they were really, really patient.Much respect, Matt

I have a little trouble sitting through a whole “Bruno Mattei Show” episode. But I do like the car movie reviews. I really like Brad’s style but the porno reviews are more than I can handle sometimes haha. Sometimes there’s no way for bad porno to be funny.

      • mattanus

Sit in a cafe, babble, and throw the tape black and white?

Can Brad and Co. try to give it a little production value? Sit in a good location for Christ’s sake. A house, a basement, a set. You’re all worth it and the topic is worth it. Get out of the Double T Diner and make a real video. You’re internet stars, right? You guys make money, don’t you, even a little bit? Shit. Show us. I’m not expecting much, but editing a restaurant conversation, intercut with footage, is lazy. I’m sorry. It is. Who can disagree with me?

This is NOT an attack on any of these personalities or their sites or their topics or their passions. I just want these people to respect themselves, namely Brad and the two other’s that barely talked or could get a word in! Spoony was clearly just along for the ride.

You could argue not all of the vids that our “little pool of d.i.y. entertainers” needs to be well polished. Okay. I get that. And I’m not saying work yourselves to death or don’t have a good time and go out for drinks before or afterwards, but be professional and think about what the end product is going to look like. If complicated timing and conflicting schedules dictate a fucking restaurant convo to be filmed because that’s the only option, maybe, i dont know, don’t do it. Plan. Make it worth your time. Put some time into it. Pre-production, V.O., segues — not just a black and white filter. What?

You guys do get some meager cash for your work, right? This is sooooo lazy.

(Don’t post nastiness as a response. I’m not trollin’. I love Tandem Spoony. I think I support my claims.)

This would be fine for the up and coming internet personalities, but you guys are established, respected, and should present better products at regular intervals. Again, this is mostly at Brad and the people who didn’t get to speak hardly at all in this vid. Spoony was clearly just a guest and as of late as put together some quality stuff. He always has and should be envied by some of these other “entertainers”.

I’m not asking for too much. I support by word of mouth for Brad, Spoony and other’s and expect some kind of reciprocation for all my participation. We all should.

        You, reading this, included.

We help them to do what they enjoy by clicking on their ads and telling our friends about them.

Vids like these are lazy and amateur, two things I know none of these people want to be described as. If they spent HALF the time on prep work and some mild direction (scripted or not scripted) that Brad spent ranting and dominating, you’d have a good quality video.

       Noooooo!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

The cock fight scene actually reminds me of the pit-fight scene from Rambo III, only reworked so that Reb and the John Cena stand-in can talk during the fight.

Spoony opened me up to a whole world of Reb Brown movies. When I was young I believed that Space Mutiny was the only film to star Reb Brown and he was just this big lunkhead the producer spotted at a gym shouting slogans at his trainees (“Movemovemove!”) and then I started watching the Experiment and I saw Robowar and Strike Commandos and it blew my mind.

And speaking of Jakota (or however you spell the Russian bad guy’s name), why if he’s wearing dentures is it so hard to yank a grenade out of your mouth? Ask someone with dentures – they have trouble eating anything more solid than a banana if they don’t glue their teeth with enough Polydent, and then if you really want to there’s nothing to keep you from yanking your dentures out if you pull on them with about the same amount of pressure you pluck a nose hair.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MCK6CIYZ2C55FES3NW4BAOTG4E Christina

Er, if dentures are well-fitted, they don’t fall out all the time. This isn’t the 1950s anymore. Polydent? Never heard of it, and my mother has her upper teeth replaced by dentures. Now I’m left wondering about the state of dentistry in the USA… assuming you’re from the US. :-?

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ICDHG7TLTN6JVK6JMK3TKQFXKQ Mike Wallace

Canada. ANd while it isn’ the 50’s, it was the early 80’s when Strike Commandos came out, and the shape of the dentures that came out of Jakota’s head are the type that are only held to the palette and gums with an adhesive designed to dissolve safely in the mouth over time so they can be removed for cleaning and comfort reasons – my dad has both upper and lower full-arch dentures and if he bites into an apple he can pull at least one set free, no matter how hard he glues them in. As for Polydent, I was misinformed – I was thinking of Polident which is a denture cleaner.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/P464EUBLHGM4NJF4TYADCUGDNM catoblepa

You know, I think I spotted the movie they ripped off for the scene of the dying child… of course it’s a pretty common clichè, but it plays exactly like another movie and it’s absolutely hilarious ’cause they set the bar very high for themselves. I’m pretty sure it’s a ripoff from Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon. Seriously. Reb is doin’ his best Ryan O’Neal impersonation for the scene when [SPOILERS ALERT] Redmond’s dying son asks his father to tell him again his war story on his deathbed [SPOILERS ALERT].

When I see such a cinematic masterpiece I’m proud to be italian. By the way, I’m very proud of another thing: a relative of mine (he married my cousin) is a cinematographer and camera operator… and his uncle was the cinematographer of “Yor, the Hunter from the Future”. How awesome is that?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MCK6CIYZ2C55FES3NW4BAOTG4E Christina

Cool. Do you happen to know if they shot Yor (or parts thereof) in Turkey? Because I think I recognized the landscape of white tufa rock that Yor is jogging through at one point, it’s pretty destinctive.

  • Zejex

It was filmed like we where there, sitting with you around the table, and then also realizing how stupid we are from watching 4 people talking over nothing. And it is still the best entertainment in this era, and the people around the table don’t realize that is why. 4 dorks around a table, makes you feel like one yourself. But it isn’t, we know these people, and peoples opinion labels people dorks. Why not 4 other “dorks”? Because we since the dawn of dorks, we know these people and like them and recoqnize them? It could have been anyone else. Weird world.

    • http://twitter.com/thecinemasnob Brad Jones

Cheryl was a random very very drunk lady at the bar that afternoon.  There’s about a minute’s worth of raw footage I have of her coming up to the table.  I think I may post that footage, she was certainly very taken by Jerrid =)

      • http://twitter.com/ATLCatKaminski Ian Michael Kaminski

Ah, Thank you I wanted to know more about that incident since I saw that. Also, If it wasn’t for you and Spoony I would have never discovered Reb Brown and Bruno Mattei. Never thought that I would enjoy “B” Movies (for lack of a better term) but I’ve found a new niche of films to enjoy

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MCK6CIYZ2C55FES3NW4BAOTG4E Christina

Ah, I thought the woman either sounded drunk or like a prostitute who was trying to pick up one of the men at the table. Although I’d think that normal prostitutes would notice there’s a woman at the table, too, which should be a hint the men aren’t looking for “professional company”.

        • Zejex

Is that the first thought you got? Poor americans and your poor media.

      • LotusPrince

Oh, I thought it was a waitress who wasn’t paying any attention to what was going on.  A random drunk lady is much funnier. :-P

First of all, going “WTF was that?” is not “making fun of someone”. It’s a normal reaction.

Secondly, what the hell does that have to do with people with Aspergers?? People with Aspergers are not mentally retarded, and neither do they do around randomly approaching people they don’t know and coming on to them as if they’re four-year-olds asking strangers for candy. Given that people with Aspergers have trouble with face-to-face social interaction ESPECIALLY with strangers whom they cannot “read”, it would be rather the opposite. The Aspie is the person sitting in the corner, reading a book. I can only talk for myself, but I avoid going to bars alone, as I have no interest in “picking up” someone, and it’s stressful for me being surrounded by strangers.

      • Zejex

Hold your horses! My mistake mam, I thought the “Be ashamed!” indicated it was just a joke…. something, but my humor is fucked up so there really is no excuse from my side. Actually when I was doubting once whereever I was an Assburgers myself, I went to the only gymnasium with a class only for people diagnosed with the syndrome. I was surrounded by the most weird, wacky, heartwarming, clever, funny and sharp people for 6 months, and I will never forget it, those people deserve everything.

I was a friend of a kid with Asperger’s for two years. They don’t really like social rules very much, so they can get really immature.

It’s tough (at least in my experience) to form a lasting friendship with someone that. It got worse as we grew up and started noticing his behavior, and eventually we reluctantly told him to leave us alone. I still feel guilty about it.

Every time I see Reb Brown do what he does best, I can’t help but wonder how much cooler the Street Fighter Movie would have been if he had played Guile instead of Van Damme.

    • Kendotuxedo

That…. is the greatest idea I’ve ever heard.  Reb Brown as Guile is a match made in heaven, and seeing him and Raul Julia fight each other would be like “Space Mutiny” versus “Overdrawn at the Memory Bank”

      • http://sbkmulletman.deviantart.com/ sbkMulletMan

Ha, you think exactly the same way I do!

Ah, good ol’ Overdrawn at the Memory Bank.  In fact, that’s a connection Reb Brown and Raul Julia actually do have: they both starred in movies that were riffed on MST3K, but didn’t necessarily “need” the show in order to be entertaining (in their own way, heh).

But MST3K *did* make them better!  “I seem to have DIED, is that okay?” (that part still cracks me up to this day!)

I’m wondering what Cheryl thought she would be doing in the video…

How DO you manage to scream after a grenade just exploded in your mouth XD ?

Or maybe that was just a faint echo from a memory? Must’ve been pretty haunting for both of them:

    Reb’s dream: “Amerikanskiiii!”
    Jakota’s dream: “JA! KO! TAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”

(Writing it like that makes Reb look like a dragonborn Oo)

  • Bonus Damage

I’ll admit this is my first time seeing one of Brad Jones’ “The Bruno Mattei Show” episodes – And yes, that’s because Spoony here is in it, and it was conviniently on his front page, but I have to say, as a new watcher, I really like it.  I like the atmosphere and the style, even though I’m seeing comments to the contrary.  It’s just simple; its quaint.  Admittedly, since this is the first episode I’ve seen I WAS curious if this was being shot in a basement/on a set, or something, as opposed to an actual lounge-like establishment… Up until the waitress showed up, and THAT was funny.

I’m definatly going to check out more of this show, so keep up the great work!

ya the guys all affiliated with channel awesome are very big about cross promoting each other. it works to their mutual benefit to work together instead of trying to work against each other. some people on here can’t seem to see that.

      • Bonus Damage

It’s actually through that exact method of video-producing I was even introduced to reviewers like the Nostalgia Critic, and the others (I think specifically, Alone In The Dark) It makes me very glad they do that at all ^_^

  • pelleparafin

Why are you so slow to post own material, Spoony? :/

I imagine high self-production expectations mainly.

    • GreenGear

C’mon man. He doesn’t need to be hassled like this. You’d better believe he gets a lot of it as is.

      • FoxClass2

You bet your shit he needs to be hassled like this.  He gets tonnes of complaints but this is the only way to express viewer discontent.  I’m sick of this shit, and I’m done with this usual garbage so I’m not coming back.  If you want good viewership then accept the complaints, you shit.

        • Soul_Saint

As you haven’t been around for a while, Fox, you should know something: Spoony’s had a bad case of depression. It’s why he wasn’t putting things up as much as he used to. He’s a tad busy working on some video’s as well as taking care of himself. Personally I love the Counter Monkey series, along with his older reviews. Give him time to be all set with putting some newer reviews up. Maybe people can suggest more games for him to review instead of simply complaining, as that will do more than just stating you dislike what is being posted currently. You’d be saying specifically what you’d like to see and he’d be more able to do something a majority of people enjoy than just be told “This sucks”, “Go back to doing older movies/games/etc”. It’s his life and some of the stuff gets boring(Which is worsened by depression). He’s the one that has to sit through everything – We just get to see him make light of it all.

Constructive criticism my friend. Enjoy your drinks if you’re still at it now, cheers.

Which defeats the purpose, because this video is almost a week old, and the comments haven’t even broken 100.

My favorite part about this guy is that he forces his opinion on everyone, but when someone disagrees and calls him a moron, he acts like no one can speak unless spoken to.

I don’t care how stupid you are, no one can be blind to that level of hypocracy and still have the mental capacity to type. Another reason why he’s probably just a troll.

good point but i thought i saw someone address him by name. not sure ow disqus handles banings. some softwares delete the account some just flag it unable to post… *shrug*

Get fucked, shit for brains.  Enjoy your low-brow drivel, I’m sure a moron like you eats that shit up.  Who do you think you are, anyway?  You’re a nobody – just another asshole on the internet, so get off your high horse.

Sounds to me like mr. Guest didn’t take his prozac!

  • FoxClass2

Spoony, lets be honest.  You used to have quality videos.  They made me laugh, be they reviews or let’s plays (or “let’s riff”‘s).  Your newest stuff is garbage and I haven’t been back in months.  I find it’s new shit like this and I really don’t know why I even came back – I suppose I was hoping for some of the best Spoony dialogue and script writing that I became used to back in the “Let’s Riff on Ripper” days or even the SWAT days.  What happened to you?  Where are the “Wing Commander” and “Phantasmagoria” days?  I think you’ve lost your touch – how is your viewership?  Does it support my thoughts?  I’m done with you Spoony, I wish you had done better.  Maybe if you can conjure up some of the interest I had in you years ago I may return but as of now, I’m so sick of your shitty uploads that I think I’ve had it with you.  Your videos have sunk below YouTube quality and you’re done in my list.  I used to love you, I don’t know what happened but I’m sad to say goodbye…  Goodbye Spoony, thanks for the memories…

Hey douchebag, I don’t remember asking for your opinion? Kindly go fuck yourself.

        • Kersh23

And who asked for your opinion ?

Isn’t the sole purpose of this section to you know…post comments t.i., expressing your  opinion regardless?

Well nobody asked yours either, and you trolled a lot of comments because of it. So don’t act all high and mighty.

          • Tektit

             It’s a comments board – it’s for comments/opinions.  It’s why it’s here.  Haha, dumbass.

Its not about “hes too busy”, “he has problems” etc. pp. He PRODUCES STUFF YES WE NOW THAT. Its about the KIND of stuff he does – Unfunny stuff that is. And yeah, WE are the majority. If you check google trends or alexa you will see spoonyexperiments gets less and less viewers.

        • Roohaa

Agreed.  Look at the comments too, not a lot of people are happy with the direction the site is going in.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

When he jumps off the boat, I think he says something like, “Our father who art in heaven.”

He’s saying a prayer basically. Or I think so. :/

Also it’s really hilarious seeing people complaining about the videos being posted like they’re entitled to the content.

I have watched this show previously. I want to like Brad Jones, and things like Ninja the Mission Force give me hope, but The Bruno Mattei Show has never done it for me, nor the Cinema Snob videos.

    • http://twitter.com/riseuplight EHM

Well I agree with you about the Bruno Mattei Show.. it’s basically for people who have seen his movies and can relate. I don’t understand how people can’t see it was meant to be casual. That’s like saying “The View” is lazy.. hell any talk show. People want to see personalities interacting and having fun, in a non-scripted manner. The Cinema Snob videos have piqued my interest with cult/horror films, and I think Brad’s writing is great, but I can relate to Spoony more because he also does games.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/DMI44DKGIMVQCUHMWLRF4S3CZY Steven B

Despite that, gave this a shot, didn’t like it too much. Just watch Rebruary for your Reb Brown fix.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/DMI44DKGIMVQCUHMWLRF4S3CZY Steven B

As for complaints about Spoony’s production, I think he has been excellent of late. Counter Monkey is amazing. The last few videos, including FFX-2’s finale, Ultima 8, and Skullduggery have all been very good and all with a 30 minute run time and all very funny. I didn’t care for this or Diamanda Hagan’s video/cameo, but I gave the videos a chance.

He’s supposed to review Tekken: Bloodlust next and I’m kinda psyched about it!

      • http://profile.yahoo.com/DMI44DKGIMVQCUHMWLRF4S3CZY Steven B

Yeah me too, played a lot of drunken tekken tag back in the days in our pseudo frathouse after high school.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/DMI44DKGIMVQCUHMWLRF4S3CZY Steven B

Looking forward to FFXIII getting reviewed, especially since I don’t own a next gen system, and I’ll be able to see Spoony’s take on a game I have never played (and never really wanted to play from what I’ve seen and the disaster FFXII was).

  • http://twitter.com/Funkatronics Alison

I love you Spoony! You’re both adorable and hilarious! I can’t wait for the next review.  It’s supposed to be Tekken: Bloodlust, right? Color me excited!  Another hilarious thing is that all the negative comments on here are signed by the ‘guest’. It makes me giggle when people who don’t like things spend their supposedly valuable time commenting on the things they supposedly don’t like. Silly jerkwads, trolling is for bridges.

On a related note: Yay! Cinema Snob!!

    • pelleparafin

Well aren’t you just a little ray of sunlight?

How about you fuck off and stop attentionwhoring, the way you type makes you look like an infant starving for attention.

      • http://twitter.com/Funkatronics Alison

Then we, sir or madame, are even, because the way you type makes you seem like an embittered asshole.

I’m confused as to which part of my comment qualifies me as an attention whore. I was stating something I genuinely found funny. I think it’s amusing when people feel the need to comment negatively on such things. It’s a review. On the Internet. Trashing this stuff never really seems to do anything other than draw the ire of others.

At any rate, the only negative comments I really take issue with are the one’s  whose only purpose appears to be rudeness. I liked the video, It’s fine if they didn’t. Just don’t be a jerk. That’s why I was being flippantly upbeat with my comment. And while it still makes me giggle that people who don’t even have a profile are mostly the ones being negative, apparently that makes me seem  ‘like an infant starving for attention’. Good call, by the way, giving the attention whore your attention. That is how children learn right?. Oh well, you keep doing what it is you do, and I’ll keep on with my relentlessly sunny persona. Hopefully I can give you diabetes. If not, well at least I tried.

  • pelleparafin

For christs sake, Spoony. We want game/movie reviews, and hopefully at least once every three months.

    GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, SON.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

So far this year, this year we’ve had one review a month. That’s a step up from your expectations.

      • pelleparafin

If it wasn’t obvious enough, I was exaggerating. I miss the days when Spoony frequently posted new material…

        • http://www.facebook.com/people/George-Rosenbaum/100001387887487 George Rosenbaum

At least it’s better than where he was in late 2011. That’s not really a defense, but it’s a good trend, right?

          • Roohaa

             Hopefully…

    • http://twitter.com/thecinemasnob Brad Jones

No way you want us shooting in my basement.  Too many spiders, pipe sounds, and flea ridden couches.  It’s a dark place down there.  I’m going to have nightmares tonight.

Little late to this party but seriously? You disrespect them by calling them lazy while they’re taking a moment of their free time to provide you with some entertainment. There’s a couple of words for what you are, childish and whiny being two of them. Just…Just…Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

    • http://www.facebook.com/david.arseneau David Arseneau

I won’t say I completely agree, but I do think Brad really needs to put more effort in the quality of his productions. I think 80’s Dan is a hilarious show, but the quality of the cinematography is atrocious; They rarely use a tripod, the image quality is crap, and it looks like they can’t decide if they want to make a sitcom or a home movie.
As for Spoony, I love his stuff, and especially his newer stuff. The Ultima retrospective was a brilliant idea and very well put together, and the production value for the Ultima 9 review is pretty good (AWD’s animation is simple but to the point), and I also like his blogs about recent movie, especially when Miles is around. But Counter Monkey, and the fact that we have to go to his twitter just to keep up to date with the site’s status are steps in the wrong direction.
I know CM has its audience, and I’m fine with this. But the “News” problem could be easily fixed if Spoony simply wrote a blog entry every now and then telling us when we can expect a new video.
Again, I love both’s work. But there’s always a place for improvment.
