Let’s Play SWAT 4 – Mission #02: Big MAC-10 & Fries

The Spoony One | Mar 9 2009 | more notation(s) |

Looks like the Triads are selling illegal firearms, so it’s time to shut ‘em down. Will it go down smooth, or will it end up like the beginning of Hard Boiled?

You should do the locked door count just like you did the fuse box count.

    Look at the equipment screen,
i SWEAR there is a Non-lethal version of shotgun that fires beans … or something…
you may want to use that one so you can shoot without worry that you may KILL something and get the deadly force penalty

In SWAT 3 there were penetration models for each gun and ammo, you could test it on a special range in the training kill house map, where were different types of walls you could stack and see how much penetration different types of ammo have… in the end I always used M4A1 with hollow point ammo anyway – good stopper, and was gong through wood and plaster only ;)

Man I loved that game – SWAT 4 was a bit to “arcadish” to me – so does all the R6 after Raven Shield.

I would tell you to use the lean (peek) function more often (before going through doorways or going around corners), but it’s so much fun watching you walk right into danger without taking any precautions… and yes the handcuffing/reporting of subjects gets tedious after a while. The level at the software company and the bank level are a pain because of this.

Something I found to be useful – use wedges on doors, and leave locked doors locked until you want to open then. That way you can section off and controls areas without being surprised by anyone.

Also, try ordering one team to cover doors while you clear out rooms with other teams. Oh, and equip your guys with non-lethal weapons, especially in the early levels.

The shotgun going through the wall? Not happening if you were using Buckshot. Buckshot vs a wall or kevlar is a joke compared to a nice Slug. Even for shooting at doors, Buckshot isnt the Ideal “Gonna hit you through the wall” weapon. You’d want a 7.62 or a 9mm for that. (Yes, 9mms do penetrate. Alot better then a 5.56mm.)

How can you expect to survive when you play like shit?

Use your fiber optic cameras all the time, and make sure your team rushes in through doors with you.
If there’s armed people, just breach the door with stun grenades.
Playing Rambo doesn’t get you far in SWAT games, this is not Rainbow Six where you get awarded for pulling hollywood shit.

Just brushed through the game myself. God those last levels suck donkey balls. Still, pretty good game – could need a tweak though. Actually, I find the Pepper Ball gun-thingy to be pretty good. There are very few people who wear gas masks, so it works pretty much all through the game. The wedges are frigging lifesavers, btw. You can completely control the passages through an entire level, forcing the baddies to either head in your direction, or retreat to a room you will eventually get to. The Bean Bag Shotgun, however, sucks to high heaven – range is bullocks, and way to low ROF. Hope you go through some of the last levels (‘specially the ones with a time limit), just to see you maul your computer into oblivion.

What the…hey, that’s not even a MAC. As Quinn said, it’s an Uzi variant. Without the folding stock. The front looks all wrong, though – it looks more like a Spanish Star Z84.

Holy hell, this game looks hard. I thought GR: AW for the PC was hard (the stupid squad-command system is cumbersome). Can you peek or lean around corners at all?

This was the first mission of the game, I believe. Yeah, it’s cool that the enemy and civilian placements are random, but I’ve found on several occasions that that’s not always a good thing. I mean, twice I’ve had EVERY SINGLE MUGGER AND MUGGED IN THE SAME MOTHERFRIGGIN’ ROOM! All the muggers died, all the mugged died, and all the cops died. Happy ending -_-

You can actually do all the commands with the spacebar, from breaching, handcuffing, moving to a specific spot, and so on. The only need you’ll really need for the right-click is to specify a grenade for breaching, which I tend to use a lot for every room with a bad guy just so I can choke/blind before I arrest their punk ass.

Spoony, you suck. You blunder around corners. Use your optiwand before you go past corners to check both sides from safety.

Don’t just leave your team to sit there. If you are going to clear out the bottom floor first, either order them to fall in, or else use both or one team to cover the doorway you’re saving till later in case someone comes out of them.

When the enemies are standing close to the door with their back to it, Stingers, but not CS Gas, are the true way of the jedi. Gas is for when they’re behind cover and not immediately visible from the door.

The computer didn’t get panned for inappropriate use of force because he’d actually been shot first. In this game you get penalized for shooting someone who is not already pointing a gun at a cop or a hostage. So in the first mission the guy wasn’t technically aiming at you and that is why you got penalized. What you should have done in that situation was pepper sprayed him while he was drawing.

In this game rounds do penetrate doors, but just not necessarily interior walls. Note that shotguns tend not to penetrate whereas rifles do moreso. The buckshot is a bit underpowered in this game, that is admittedly an issue. One mod upped the buckshot damage to compensate.

This is almost my favorite game of all time.

Oh, one more point. In the first playthrough when you tried to barge through the doorway where a guy with a SMG was covering it from close range you deserved to be shot. That was exactly textbook wrong, since you have the disadvantage wielding a long arm while coming through the door and he’s covering the door. The true way of the jedi would have been to fall back and then throw a stinger through the door, bouncing it off the opposite wall to land right next to him.

I’ve bought SWAT 4 just because of Spoony – The Videos rock and the game as well! I just keep asking myself why there’s no SWAT 5! Can anybody recommend me a good Rainbow Six title or something else which is similar to SWAT 4?

      Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield

same apart from being able to command all teams at once and well, rainbow six has no problem with killing everyone.

I'm kinda going back through the SWAT 4 LP, just for the heck of it. I'd forgotten how much fun it was when it first came out.

When I can get SWAT4 to behave and not break my svchost process, I'm so going to get back through this to whatever mission i was on (the bank or diamond shop or something…)

Anyway, I get 90somethings on most of the maps i do. no deductions from using deadly force is attainable… use the less lethal shotgun and pepper ball guns! 8D you shoot beanbags at people! and basically pepper spray in a paintball form for the other gun, which i give to half my team. then of course using the smoke grenades and the sting grenades almost always guarantees more compliant people. i don't use flashbangs alot, but they can be useful :)

and yannow… tasers are just fun.

Oh, and for everyone saying this is the first mission… It can be, but for me, most often it's mission number two. I don't get why the mission order changes, but I've had 3 different maps that i can remember as my first map.

“I'm not in your way. Fuck off!”
And so begins the infamous “get out of my way” running joke.

I wasn't even supposed to be here!

haha Clerks for the win! What a wookie!

oh crap this comment was mostly for the next video Perps. It's late and I am crashing soon for work, I guess I mixed up this fast food video and the quick stop convenience video that follows.

So the moral of the story is that your squadmates are cannon fodder.

I played this level 4 times….and every time there was a guy in the womens bathroom

The missions may start to get a lot harder, but they also start to get a lot funnier. I’m sorry, your suffering isn’t in-and-of itself funny but there’s definitely a positive correlation.

My boyfriend is playing the game right now and I remember watching these videos a while back. I told him about the game play and how annoying the guys are. Sure enough the first time the guys said “Your in my way sir”,”Your in my spot sir”, and “Move over sir.” I started cracking up laughing and he’s looking at me weird. He’s also having a hard time saving, he had to start the game over three times from the beginning unsure on how to save. Does the game save on it’s own or is there a spot to save?

I’m currently going through SWAT 3 right now. So far, the AI is… not bad? They do tend to hand-cuff civvies and suspects, usually.

About the impenetrable walls/dooes maybe you might want to try Project I.G.I.? (not a team tacticall game nor really working as stealthy but i conssider it fine game, with few flaws (like repoping enemies)

Infinitely respawning enemies were actually annoying enough for me to stop playing it. But apart from that, it’s a good game

      • James_Blood

infinitive respawn did not happen everywhere tho so offten it were just about observing and figuring out way to avoid their respawn points

Aw, yeah, the “S.W.A.T.” theme song to close out. Brings back memories, makin’ it feel awwwwwwwright.

Spoony! Do more SWAT LETS PLAYS!

  • solidsamurai

What doesn’t make sense with swat 4 is… when is the taser ever actually useful (besides fun)?   Is their ever a point where a suspect is ‘unsure’ about whether or not he wants to shoot you (and getting the most ‘points’ means you have to taser him)… ???

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000523669441 Jiří Neasi

Sometimes even civilians make trouble, and you can’t just shoot their brains out. Especially in the later missions and on higher difficulties, you need all kinds of non-lethal force to subdue suspects and hostages.

SWAT 3 is better. it has better missions and commanding system. you should do LETS PLAY of that

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000523669441 Jiří Neasi

Actually, the guy with the revolver did have a reason to suspect you’re there, I think the police barricade and the SWAT van in front of the restaurant aren’t all that inconspicuous :P

  • Keith Chan

I always liked how they found excuses to fill each level with lifesized cardboard cutouts and mannequins.

springboardplatform isnt very good it seems,it cuts off some of the video. unless there is some way to fix it (i cant find a way personally). kinda sucks when you come back and watch old videos…

    “You’re in my way, sir.”

“I’m not in your way. Fuck off.”

    It begins.

  • whitmore

Cook: “Holy shit, I thought I was gonna die!”
    Spoony: “Goooood.”

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1442290943 Derek Thomas

I’ve watched all these Swat 4 videos probably about 9 or 10 times. I really wish we had more of these from Spoony.
