Bloodrayne (Three Schmuckheads)

The Spoony One | Jul 16 2014 | more notation(s) |

The Three Schmuckheads reunite to tackle Uwe Boll’s blood-suckfest, Bloodrayne!

  • Damon Sherman

great crossover, hope to see more in the future.

  • big_no_no

Oh good, because the last crossover the three of you did was so great.

    • rustedramblings

The Alone in the Dark review is widely regarded as one of the NC’s best. (*citation needed) Most people definitely liked it, though. The point here is that we’re able to see Spoony alongside Doug and Lewis again. We all know he maintained his close friendship with Brad, and there was obviously little to no ill will between he and Doug/Lewis, but the whole Channel Awesome fallout was sort of a mess, so I was just thrilled to see one of the biggest stars of that site reunite with his former comrades.

      • big_no_no

I never liked the NC and find that he brings funny people down with him in crossovers. This and the AitD review are prime examples.

  • Bigfaceless

Ignore that other guy. the last crossover you guys did WAS so great. Great to see you three on screen together again. Also the whole, “elephant in the room” bit was perfect.

  • Nivmarx

I’m suprised Doug managed to gather you three again. But it was glorious to see!

    • Lord_of_the_Ninth

Well Spoon IS in Illinois (also Cinema Snob) now and Linkara is in Minnesota. So they are all pretty closeby.

  • http://www.schadenfreudestudios.com/ Amesang

Knowing about the horror that was the “Bloodrayne” adaption made me excited enough, but the fact that Spoony was able to make a comeback for it, with Linkara (and Snob, too!), just made this a real treat. Now to be perfectly honest I still find the “Alone in the Dark” review to be more enjoyable, but that might be due to that film being easier to tolerate, too. Still, I’ll be adding this to my list of rotating Nostalgia Critic reruns.

  • chainsawmidget

Nice to see you all back together again. This review is one of the few that’s actually made me laugh out loud at several parts. I especially liked Spoony flying, and the Cinema Snob appearances.

  • golden izanagi

the sequel is just as painful if not even more so, with crap that pissed me off like the part where Rayne gets captured near the beginning of the movie after being knocked out in one hit by a random henchman in a scene that should’ve established the character as a badass, or the movies attempt to make you give a shit about characters that you only get to know for like one or two scenes when they are about to be killed, and the noises vampires make anytime they die because apparently vampires squeal like pigs before dying.

  • Rick S

It’s been a long time since I seen all 3 of you together.
Great review. I hope to see more down the road !

  • R. Butler

    It LIIIIIIVES!!! :D

  • Garmrspor

Holy shit. I thought we’d never get another one of these. The previous one is — and I kinda hate to say it — one of my most-watched videos on this site (ONE of them; I’ve lost track of the times I’ve watched the entire SWAT 4 thing). Hell, last I rewatched it was about two weeks ago. Not a huge NC/Linkara fan but that review was gold; they played off each other perfectly.

What a goddamn surprise. Did my routine check of the ‘Experiment expecting nothing; not even a Spoony video. Man was my day made.

    • Kayl

The Alone in the Dark crossover was the first Nostalgia Critic video I ever watched, and, while I don’t watch his videos as much as I used to, it’s still my favourite. It was also the video that introduced me to Linkara and Spoony.

      • hariman

Heh. Me too. The Alone in the Dark review and the 1st anniversary brawl are the main reasons I started watching The Spoony Experiment and Atop the 4th Wall.

It’s actually a little ironic, as I don’t watch the Nostalgia Critic all that much anymore.

This review was a lot of fun, and quite funny.

        • Kayl

That reminds me I have not watched Linkara’s stuff in a while. I’m not fond of most of his skits, but I like his commentary. However I don’t think I will be watching the Nostalgia Critic again any time soon. For a reason I cannot quite describe, I just don’t find the new reviews funny. Crud… maybe that means I got old.

          • hariman

A similar thing happened with me. Something about the Nostalgia Critic’s reviews just changed over time, and I guess we’re the people who don’t like that shift in style and tone.

      • Garmrspor

What a great place to start. I believe I was introduced to Spoony through Linkara’s Wolverine: Adamantium Rage video. Wondered who the hell he was and not long after started watching his stuff (and started doing so almost exclusively).

I think Nostalgia Critic is the first of the three I ever watched… But when I say “watched” I mean I just saw a bunch of his videos; I never followed them.

      • Jerry Forbe

Alone in the Dark and The Room are probably my two favs of NC

  • CommanderZx2

As stupid as the whole vampire water thing is in the movie, it is actually conan with the games. In the Bloodrayne games if you stand in water, any water including a swamp, you take damage. The game has long platforming sections set in flooded areas where you have to jump roof top to roof top to avoid landing in the water, else you fry from it.

The body parts, including the eye, are also part of the story in the first Bloodrayne game. Yep the game had a stupid story.

  • panzi

That castle at Minute 31 was Neuschwanstein!

  • Krom

    It’s a bird… it’s a plane… It’s… SPOONYMAN!
    A new Three Schmuckheads Review?
    *takes a deep breath*
    HELL YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!
There is much rejoice! What a glorious day it is! I think i’m getting teary-eyed *sniffle*
    And… was that a Oblivion-Dungeon-Background during the Madsen-doesn’t-give-a-fuck-scene?

  • Toby Teh

Spoony as Superman, Linkara as The Flash, Critic as Batman, Nostalgia Chick as Batgirl vs Doug!Zod and Rob!Zod would make a better movie than Dawn of Justice.

    • groggarioth

Given Snob’s approach to voilence in this review, I’d call him the Joker of this particular setting

      • Toby Teh

And they could bring back Melvin!

        • LotusPrince

No. God, no. Never. GOD, no.

    • Nivmarx

      I’m on board!

    • Alex Stockwell

Dude, it’s not coming out for TWO YEARS. You wanna maybe wait before you automatically declare it to be shit just because Zack Snyder made Sucker Punch, thus making everything he’s ever done retroactively shit?

      • ohgobwhatisthis

No, everything Zack Snyder has done since his Dawn of the Dead remake makes them shit.

He has literally made one decent movie, one fun but incredibly overrated movie (300), one movie which completely missed the point of its source material yet had some good bits because of its source material (Watchmen), and literally everything else has been utter shite.

        • Doleth

To be fair, he didn’t write Watchmen, Solid Snake did. He’s also a pretty solid director, his movies usually look great, it’s the writing that falls short. But yeah, there’s almost no chance that Dawn of Justice won’t suck.

      • Daemian_Lucifer

Yeah, its not like we had a movie that tried to cram in too much, but ended up doing crap all so that we could….Oh,wait, the amazing spiderman 2.Or for that matter, spiderman 3.Or the man of steel.

  • Gonegagga

I can only see Udo Kier as Yuri from Red Alert :P

    • CedricTheOwl

I highly recommend his turn as a supervillain parrot in the most recent Scooby-Doo series.

  • CrystalGamma .

Didn’t Spoony do something about the video game? I recently saw some YT channel playing it, but didn’t find the review …

  • Delta001

linkara has never made me laugh once…but that castleton joke finally did it, good job

  • Matthew Rotondi

The first NC review I saw was about Alone in the Dark.

    • Carteeg_Struve

Mine as well. That was the video that introduced me to NC and Linkara.

  • BCFC25

Great to see the band back together.

Funny as shit review i must say and the Brad Cameo was the icing on the cake.

  • IHeart28

I missed the three smuckheads so much. This review was so worth the wait. Loved everything and brad’s cameos were just too funny. Then again, everything in this review was funny. This was so good!

    • Groverfield

I agree completely. Well, everything except the Nostalgia Critic, but he really hasn’t been funny for years when he found that he could replace wit with MOAR SCREAMING.

      • IHeart28

I’m going to respectfully disagree with the NC comment, because I still thinks he’s really funny. To each their own though, I respect your opinion despite the fact I don’t agree with it.

        • Groverfield

Fair enough, I could see that my impressions could probably be influenced by his sound balance being louder than most.

  • TrollsAndLoke

By god, do more collabs. I haven’t had such a good laugh in years! This was amazing!

  • CedricTheOwl

Had a big smile on my face as soon as you and Linkara showed up, Spoony. This is easily one of the best crossovers you’ve ever done. All three of you were on point and Brad’s appearances only got funnier with repetition.

Having recently played Telltale’s Walking Dead season 2, it’s interesting to hear Michael Madsen’s voice here. He does a great job as Carver and the contrast with him in this movie really shows.

    • golden izanagi

the game I heard Madsen preform in was in dishonored in which he played as the assassin Daud and gave a good performance in it, and seeing this atrocity of a movie it really is pretty painful seeing him preform like he doesn’t give a shit.

  • Bump

    the Spoony One

  • AtlasRedux

While it was a great vid, you’re not a member of TGWTG anymore and haven’t been for a long time. You’re better than this, hell, you even made a vid on how sad people that riff on Boll are just recently.
EDIT : unless that was ironically. Meh. I wanted it to be real.

    • LotusPrince

Is there a problem with doing a collab with friends and getting more exposure at the same time?

      • Zack_Dolan

yeah, never understood the crossover hate. so many of these guys i would have never heard of i now watch bcs i saw them in another video series i watch. I’ve learned myself from being in the comic business that exposure is huge and sometimes getting a break from the more popular personality can make all the difference to a new unknown, and even if you don’t especially care for it, you should never begrudge someone for trying to spread the word about someone else who needs the fans. we should all be so lucky

    • Logondo

Actually, Nostalgia Critic’s Alone in the Dark review was the video that got me interested in Spoony in the first place. I was really excited that this was another group-up, even though Spoony is no longer with TGWTG. Besides, they’re still friends, right?

  • Lembach

There is nothing about this that I did not like. Except that it ended.

    • KaorHashinake

      No, not at all.

  • revenent hell

This just refuses to play or even load for me…… Maybe its on youtube already.

  • noin007

Hot female 1/2 vampire in tight leather killing Nazis. That would seem to be virtually impossible to make a failure out of, but Boll managed to do it 3 times.

    • Godmars

To be fair, only one movie featured Nazis.

      • PeaTearGryfin

To be honest, the other two could have really been improved with a few Nazis.

        • Godmars

Why? If anything the one with Nazis was as worse as the other two.

          • PeaTearGryfin

Come on. Tell me this movie wouldn’t be at least a little bit more enjoyable if Meatloaf were playing a Nazi.

      • noin007

I’m referring to the original game. The source material was a hot female 1/2 vampire killing Nazis. And it took Boll three attempts to even get Nazis into the movie.

        • Godmars

You’re counting the actual movie where Nazis were included as an “attempt”?

No wait: This is Boll we’re talking about.

        • SUPERSOUP

Boll is half-Nazi himself, he felt sensitive

    • XellDincht

I know know two dircetors who can fuck this up: Uwe Boll and Michael Bay

    • Guest

Isn’t that basically a Resident Evil movie at this point?

  • PeaTearGryfin

While NC, Spoony, Linkara, and Brad were amazing, I do have to ask, do those knuckleheads from Demo Reel have a single comedic bone in their body? Seriously, I have never seen them in anything and actually laughed. I do have sort of a soft spot for this movie though. It is mostly because of Michael Madsen being drunk/ not giving a shit throughout the whole thing.

  • William Pelletier

As I recall the whole “any water burns” thing was also used in Legacy of Kain, somehow it didn’t seem at all idiotic there as it does in this :-p

    • Godmars

It was in the original Bloodrayne game. Wasn’t something Boll dredged up.

      • William Pelletier

I assume it was handled in a way less stupid way too. Never played Bloodrayne myself but LOK handled the idea so well that I never even questioned it.

        • Godmars

No. She’d be fully dressed, in high heels, and take damage from standing in a small puddle. Small as in not even close to an ankle deep.

Always hoped that someone would make a better game, but the first was the best the “series” ever got.

          • doresh

One point for LOK. There, your player character is usually half-naked anyways, and there aren’t small puddles, but pools, rivers, lakes and such.

          • kungfuman316

The first and the second were okay honestly, and very enjoyable. At least moreso than that 2D game did. They put so much emphasis trying to tone down her sexuality in that one they forgot to make it actually fun…

          • Godmars

The first game was decent enough, but the mechanics of the second quickly went from fun to tiresome to utterly broken.

      • chainsawmidget

… of all the things in the game THAT’S what he decided to actually pay attention too?

    • http://sbkmulletman.deviantart.com/ sbkMulletMan

Yeah, in LOK’s case, “holy water” actually would have seemed more out of place, especially in Soul Reaver where the religious humans weren’t exactly the “blessing” type, and God himself isn’t all that holy, either. So that series gets a good, strong pass with having any water working like acid.

Besides, anything explained with Michael Bell’s narration is convincing enough for me!

    • Tsumeken

Water has always been a bit of a problem for Vampires from what I remember. Even in DnD water causes damage to vampires and they are not allowed to cross bodies of it on their own power. RIFTS had that too which always made it fun to chase down super powered entities with Super Soakers.

  • Smig

Awesome. Now I want to see this movie for all the wrong reasons :D

  • Potato

This really did make me swell with happiness. Great to see you doing another colab with TGWTG. Not to diminish your own work (you’re still my favourite from that site), but I really do think you ALL do your best work when together.

  • Markham

I suppose that the “hurt by water” thing is based on old vampire legends about them being unable cross running water. That was used more stupidly in of the Hammer movies, where a vampire was killed by getting put under a shower.

  • A Random Visitor

Wait. Didn’t the Legacy of Kain games also do the thing about water being acidic to vampires?

    • LotusPrince

It did, but I think that that was more of an excuse to not program swimming mechanics. :-P

That said, to be fair, vampires cannot cross running water, and the water that would kill you in those games was always an ocean or a river, or something to that extent. A freaking bucket of water should have been no problem to Rayne.

      • MrWizard0022

Except… They DID program swimming mechanics in Legacy of Kain (Soul Reaver at least, can’t say for sure about Blood Omen), for all the enemies in one section of the world, for the boss in that section, and then later on for the player character. For each boss you killed in that game, you got a new ability, similar to Mega Man, and for killing the third boss you get the ability to swim in water without being hurt.

        • LotusPrince

Well, damn. I admittedly have only played Blood Omen 2, so there goes that.

    • zanmaru

Water harms vampires in the LoK series. By the time of Soul Reaver, one clan had evolved an immunity to water, and Kain had developed enough of a resistance not to be bothered by rain or snow, though immersion for him is supposedly fatal (in Defiance he uses his bat form to escape back to the last checkpoint).

      • Rick Jaeger

“And to think, all this time it was your cup that had water.”
“They were both watered. I’ve spent the last few years of my life building up an immunity to water.”

        • zanmaru

          Suspension of disbelief.

  • Zack_Dolan

Holy. Shit. This was AWESOME. It’s so great to see all you guys working together again. and i almost did an honest to god spit take when spoony did the superman leap into the air. loved the intro to this so much i can’t even put it into words haha.

  • Arcsaurdequester

Hmmm…I may be called a real silly guy for this…but I’ve heard this movie has a ton of nudity, and watching that would go against my beliefs. So, if anyone would be so kind, could someone please tell me where in the video, if anywhere, it shows up?

    • Andrew DeCaire

Nostalgia Critic while like TheSpoonyExperiment, being a mature review show. He may sometimes show sexy or revealing scenes but never full on nudity/porn. The site has it’s standards. There is a scene where two characters are making out in a jailcell, but even then they aren’t naked. But to be honest I don’t know how to exactly help you, because I don’t know what your issue with nudity is. “Is it sex related? Or are you a NeverNude?”

      • Arcsaurdequester

Eh, you don’t have to understand. Like I said, I know I sound strange. So, thank you, have a wonderful night, and God bless you all!

        • Gadzinisko

God has created us naked, therefore there is nothing wrong with nudity…

          • theshamster

true, nothing wrong with nudity….it’s what you do with it that causes issues.

          • Andrew DeCaire

Agreed, God has nothing against nudity, it was after Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, it caused them to realize shame. So they chose to wear fig leaves because of that, not because of anything God told them. Before they ate the fruit they were naked 24/7 and didn’t care squat.

      • Lewis Lovhaug

Aaactually it has more to do with the fact that Blip prohibits nudity in videos, soooo there you go. XD

  • Andrew DeCaire

The fellowship is once again united. A warrior determined to protect the innocence of childhood by exposing that which corrupts it, a wizard that bends reality to his will looking down at us from a non-existent standpoint, and a charming bard who spins tales of adventures. All of which are here to warn us of the evils that threaten our most cherished pasttimes, movies, comic books, videogames. But most importantly to spread laughter throughout the land.

    • Rick Jaeger

A warrior, a wizard, a bard, and also Brad, but that’s not really important.

      • Andrew DeCaire

Brad wasn’t reviewing the movie, so should he count?

        • Potato

He was in the video, so he should at least be mentioned. That would be like leaving Peeves out of a Harry Potter adaptation. What Duck-nut would do that?

    • Altin

You should really stop writing fanfictions.

  • XellDincht

It is good to see Nostalgia Critic, Linkara and Spoony in a video a together again!

Urg, i played the first Bloodrayne game and Uwe Boll raped the story of this game pretty bad…

I think the movie is take place somewhere in Eastern Europe (because the costs to produce a movie is lower then in Western Europe. Uwe Boll doesnt give a shit that it it has nothing to do with the canon of the game).

    • Zzars

Man, I’ve never once played a Bloodrayne game and this STILL makes me want to drink heavily.

  • Eathanskies

    This was fantastic.

  • http://sbkmulletman.deviantart.com/ sbkMulletMan

Awww, poor Cinema Snob. It’s because of that talk with Boll on RadioDrome where it turns out that (movies aside) he’s actually a pretty amusing guy, isn’t it? That’s no reason to Zeppo the poor guy out.

And holy crap, this movie is the stupidest thing to happen to Mullets since…since…huh…you know, there isn’t really an honest way to finish that thought without myself looking like a delusional douchebag in the end. Fuck it, I need to watch Joe Dirt again. After THIS movie, I don’t think anyone will judge me too harshly for it.

  • Chuster M. Merino

I can’t wait to see this 3 smucks reviewing Postal… I think that’s the best movie that Boll has ever done.

    • George Plellis

      the gravelord’s “Eye of Death”

      • Chuster M. Merino

        Nito prevails.

  • Deaive

Kudos to Spoony for agreeing to do this after what those guys did to
him. Lovely to see them building bridges. I hope there is lots more to
    come!

    • Renaissance_nerd

hes always been friends with Linkara and Critic, that never stopped .

    • rustedramblings

Doug (and certainly not Lewis) wasn’t the cause of Spoony’s departure from Channel Awesome. After Noah briefly lost his mind on Twitter, I believe it was Holly (who sort of did admin and HR for CA) that ultimately decided he had to go. But she has since left, as well. Spoony’s main beef seemed to be with Lupa, LordKat and the likes. Whatever he did that they all deemed to be so offensive (none of us know all the details) obviously didn’t ruin his relationships with the Walker brothers, Linkara, or Brad.

      • PeaTearGryfin

Actually, if Twitter is any indication, Noah and Alison are on good terms again. The issue with LordKat stems from Jason being a huge baby who believes that Noah doing that BETRAYAL!! yell somehow caused his career to go down the tubes.

        • M_Appel

Well I guess if all you do for a living is beating the hardest games ever made something is bound to snap…

        • zanmaru

Lordkat’s delusional. All because Notch insulted him, which to be fair Notch can be a dick sometimes. I blame the Aspergers. Lordkat blamed AngryJoe’s cock-up at the VGAs for ruining his career by association, yet Joe seems to be doing very well for himself, soo…

          • http://sbkmulletman.deviantart.com/ sbkMulletMan

See, this is why I simply stopped trying to figure out this whole scenario(s) years and just got on with my life: too many confusing, even conflicting “reasons”, and “this person did this”, “this guy did that”, it all just sounded like a really bad soap opera.

Tune in next week for The Reviews of Our Lives. Turns out The Spoony Bum is only in a coma, and Melvin is the long-lost mother of Fucking Chuckles! Not confusing enough yet? Son of Insano runs away from home and comes down with a case of EXPLOSIVE amnesia! Mexican Banditos may or may not be involved. Reviews of Our Lives, Every Thursday on WTFTV.

          • PeaTearGryfin

I hear that after that it will be revealed that Film Brain is really Blockbuster Buster’s illegitimate son, and Todd in the Shadows is his evil brother.

          • zanmaru

Next week: The REAL reason Jontron left Game Grumps.

          • http://sbkmulletman.deviantart.com/ sbkMulletMan

What Jontron, everyone knows he’s just a mechanical body controlled by that little bir-uhhhh, I mean….I KNOW NOTHING! No need to kill my family, no secrets got out, oh birdy lord!

          • Krom

Now that sounds like some fine BYOB-type of entertainment!

          • Jerry Forbe

            Dinosaur riding Mexican banditos?

          • Krom

            Mexican Lobster Banditos!

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lu9A0LlLyvo

            Børk Børk Børk!

    • zanmaru

After… what those guys did to him? Whaaaaaat? You mean firing him after he had a meltdown? I mean, to be fair, the basis was a legitimate psychological condition, but the resolution to all that doesn’t strike me as unfair. Either you’re ignorant of the situation or are seeing this from a point of view I can’t comprehend.

      • Deaive

As I gathered at the time, a couple of people unrelated to the indecent in question pushed for him to be removed. People nowhere near as talented as Spoony. I think they should have been more understanding; maybe asked him to take a few months off for his health or something.

        • zanmaru

Perhaps. Spoony didn’t seem all that broken up about it regardless.

    • BWM

Coming at this as someone who has no idea about what you guys are talking about, all I can say is that Spoony has constantly referenced and joked about the NC, Linkara, Cinema Snob, etc, all through his videos. I don’t know who didn’t like him or whatever, but it’s pretty clear he likes these dudes and always has.

  • Groverfield

Still not counting this as a Spoony video.
Is he going to actually watch that Final Fantasy anime again? I know he did a live riff of it for some con and its in his videos list, but an anime that’s not based on a fighting game and not alongside Sage, and its not the one based on Final Fantasy 5 (I think it was like Legend of the Crystals or something cliche like that.)

    • KaorHashinake

I agree, I’d love to see a full review of Final Fantasy Unlimited someday.

  • Groverfield

I’LL GUIDE YOU TO MEET YOUR DESTINY.

  • Karl Anderskiöld

The girl spoony is cardreading got pretty wobbly boobs. Very nice.

  • Quiltfish .

You guys make pretty good stooges.

  • http://mara999.deviantart.com/ MaraBackman

Yay! I’ve been hoping for a long time that the three of you would make more crossovers. You have such great rapport and complement each other. :)

  • Renaissance_nerd

Love the zit on Spoony’s forehead.. think he had one just like it for Alone in the Dark

  • Norman Stillwell

You know Spoony, you may have officially retired from TGWTG, but in spirit I feel you never really left.

    • TheTundraTerror

      They still keep in touch.

  • Melirune

I can’t help but think the Magic Eye picture is a cleverly crafted Mallrats reference.

    • StealthMarmot

WHY CAN’T I SEE THE SAILBOAT??? WHY GOD?

      • Melirune

        Wow, it’s a schooner!

Hahaha, you dumb bastard. It’s not a schooner, it’s a sail boat.

        A schooner IS a sail boat, stupid-head.

YOU KNOW WHAT? THERE IS NO EASTER BUNNY!

  • Andreas Skoglund

This is one of the first reviews that truly gave me a feel for how bad Uwe can make it. Thanks!

  • SUPERSOUP

I thought he was done with this god-awful website.

  • CrystalGamma .

What is the Epic Music track at the dramatic intro called?

  • XellDincht

hm what do you think guys: Would a Michael Bay version of BloodRayne be better or worse then Uwe Boll*s?

    • Krom

Hm, good question. Let’s answer this question with the scientific method of Bogus-Mathematics:
      If
      “Bloodrayne” x “Uwe Boll” = “Boll-Shit”
      Then
      “Bloodrayne” x “Michael Bay” = “Shit-Bay”
In other words: It’s a different kind of shit but still a pile of shit. Huh… that didn’t really answered the question. But in the end, we would still suffer a major sanity loss.

    • chainsawmidget

Micheal Bay can at least be “Stupid Entertaining” Uwe Boll never gets past the “Stupid” part.

  • M_Appel

Good to see you guys in a video again!

  • James Rice

Glad to see you working with linkara and NC. Haven’t seen you do any crossovers in a long, long time. You three have done some fine reviews together

  • Donny

LOVE the three schmuckheads! There’s this chemistry you three guys have that makes this crossover funny as ever. Maybe because of the different performance characteristics. I especially loved the introduction, this is just classic.
    Great stuff. As usual.

  • weckar

All four of them in one place? This CANNOT be the only crossover they filmed?

    • Jerry Forbe

      Holy shit you’re right hahaha

    • Lewis Lovhaug

Unfortunately it was, sorry to say. ^^; Doug, Brad, and I had just done Anime Midwest, so we were all a bit tired from the con and thus were focused on doing the review (which also took up the better part of a day). I did film a “Shut Up and Talk” with Doug, though, and Spoony was going to come back to film one of his own.

  • Kostantine

So good to see that the bullshit about Spoony being kicked out to TGWTG is over and done with. I hope he doesn’t return to the website, but I also love how Lupa’s made-up shitty drama didn’t stick.

    • MechPlasma .

How did the whole Lupa thing even get started in the first place? I mean, why did so many people actually believe that he got fired for making a Twitter joke about rape when he had a video series that was nothing BUT joking about traumatic rape (Spooning With Spoony) ?

      • Kostantine

Spooning with Spoony wasn’t about traumatic rape, it was about having sex with the wrong person while drunk. But I think it was because at that time the wole ne wave feminist movement was on the up and up and everything was rape (you should see some of the comments written by some right mad bastards back then).

  • Doctor Madness

I don’t get the Bing joke.

    • Groverfield

Only losers use Bing. It’s like the hotmail of search engines. Or maybe the new AOL

      • Clay

Only people abusing the system for free Gamestop gift cards use Bing.

        • Groverfield

If you think that there’s a way to abuse the system, then it is the system that has already broken you.

    Please do FF Unlimited!

  • Jessica Murlock

    Awww, poor Brad–er, Snob! <333

To be fair though, it never really gave an explanation in the game as to why water would burn Rayne alive. At least, none that I remember. Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen 2, which game out about around the same time, if not about a year prior to Bloodrayne also pulled the same "Water can kill vampire" thing. The only difference is, they gave a sort-of explanation saying that while water is life-giving to humans, to vampires (the undead), it will kill them. They just don't specifically say why that is, and considering both games came out long before Twilight (the first book and movie), it's not entirely fair to say it has anything to do with the water thing.

    • Foster Davies-Smith

Actually with the Legacy of Kain series a constant in it is that water is basically acid to a vampire. It’s due to some magic curse bullshit, and stronger vampires can resist it. So it’s more a problem for the freshly cursed ones. In fact, a major vampire character is full on executed in the second game by being hurled into a lake. Also I would recommend everyone alive check out the entire series. The characters, story and evolving gameplay across both the ps1 and ps2 is a sight to behold, and what I consider the gold standard in gaming.

      • doresh

It doesn’t matter how old the vampire is. Water still acts like acid. What does change with your age is your weakness to sunlight. Young vampires are weak to it, older ones not.
In fact the only vampire clan that never got rid of the sun weakness were those shark dudes, who in return managed to overcome their water weakness.

And thankfully, you’re usually facing water in the form of large pools, so you die by being completely submerged in it, which makes sense with the “bound to the earth” shtick. I’d even assume that Nosgoth vampires are flat out unable to even float in the water, which is true for the folklore weakness as well.

        • Foster Davies-Smith

Actually, in the very very first game. Even rain and snow was terrible, but Kain could power up at the bloodwells so that small amounts would not hurt. That was what I was referring to.

          • doresh

Oh well, he was a fresh vampire back then.

          • Foster Davies-Smith

Exactly my point. He gained the power of ages, grew stronger and for it tiny amounts of water could no longer hurt him. Large amounts were still like swimming in acid though, I will concede this.

    • Dirac

In old vampire folklore, vampires were considered to be bound to the earth (hence why, in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Dracula needed boxes of earth from his homeland with him). Running water washes away earth, and so it was thought that it would harm a vampire in turn; hence the old “vampires can’t cross rivers” rule that pretty much everyone forgot about.

      • Jessica Murlock

Ah. That makes sense. I wish they would’ve mentioned that in the original BloodRayne game, instead of just saying, “Don’t go in water because it’ll kill you”.

  • Patrick Smith

I’ve always kinda felt that Boll’s reputation was a bit overblown. I mean, I wouldn’t call any of his movies good, but they are far from the worst movies out there, and if it’s late enough at night, can even be dumb fun. Regardless, though, it was great seeing the “band” back together.

    • Ryan Kaufman

I think the biggest issue is how cocky he is and how he fights reviewers who think his movies aren’t good.

But, I can’t not-like Rampage. It oddly resonates with me.

  • Nicholas Patrick

If you’re going to review Final Fantasy Unlimited I have to ask what you think of Legend of the Crystals? It was an OVA sequel to the FF5 game, only dubbed in English (with much of the actors from Tenchi Muyo’s English Dub) and only on VHS. There’s one scene in particular I wanted to see your reaction to… you’ll know it when you see it.

Anyway I hope we see more Eww Balls reviews with the three of you!

    • kungfuman316

That anime in all of its dumb moments (including a literal panty shot) is saved by one character and his deep love for boobs. Seriously the point he goes on a rampage because the object of his affections just gets a *scratch* on her ta-tas was hilarious and awesome at the same time.

      • MechPlasma .

        “(including a literal panty shot)”

What, a bullet in the ass?

        • kungfuman316

No. Her panties flash and she fires a beam from them. I am NOT making that up.

    • Clay

Gilgamesh wasn’t in it, right? So who cares.

    • NeroAngelo

maybe that can be his next anime abandon crossover

  • Krolan

Anyone who can tell me which song is playing from 0:50 to 2:01 ?

  • Will_Z_Macht

Y’know, if you think about it, Bloodrayne is closer to an adaptation of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night than Bloodrayne. There’s a half-human / half-vampire that gathers the body parts of a powerful vampire, fights minibosses, and kills a vampire at the end. The character also has flashbacks to his/her mother’s death.

…well, it’s closer to that than to Bloodrayne…

    • Lina Jones

Eh, more like Castlevania 2. :P

      • http://sbkmulletman.deviantart.com/ sbkMulletMan

Yeah, I THOUGHT I had Brentalfloss’ rendition of “Bloody Tears” playing in my head by the time it got to the “segmented body parts” bit of the movie.

…fuck, now that song is gonna be stuck in my head for the next 18 hours. What a horrible night to have an earworm. “Slippa-slappa, smicka-smacka!”

    • Christofor Barrett

please dont equate the masterpeice symphony of the night was to this piece of garbage

  • igotbanned999

I’d actually have to say that out of Doug, Linkara, and Spoony, Doug is the least funny/entertaining…

    • Christofor Barrett

Annnndd… Spoony the most.. right?.. RIGHT!?

      • igotbanned999

        Yes.

      • L1nk1

Right. Not in the left, right?

    • THE Sami Ryyppö

I don’t know about that… I mean I personally have never seen liked Linkara that much. Doug’s only problem is that he has a a very specific sense of humor and you can clearly tell when he’s in charge of a project,

  • Fueldrop

I’m fairly certain Meatloaf once did a music video which involved him killing vampires. kinda ironic.

  • Christofor Barrett

Laughed harder at the first few minutes of this than i have in a while, thanks.

  • THE Sami Ryyppö

Near the beginning… did the half human half vampire chick just bite a vampire? WHY?!

    • doresh

Easy. She committed Diablerie to increase her Blood Potency so she can store and use more Vitae and boost her Disciplines.

      • Daniel Tilson

And because Vampire meat is tender and juicy.

        • Groverfield

Just gotta eat it before it dusts. Always a plus side: it never rots in the fridge

          • Andrew DeCaire

Actually turning to dust is good plot convenience. That way if you kill a vampire, but no-one else knows he’s a vampire nor will believe you. There’s no body for the police to examine/arrest you for murder.

      • THE Sami Ryyppö

Oh. My knowledge of vampires really is limited to what’s used in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and there was no such thing in that. It just kind of seemed pointless to me, since in Buffy the vampires only use biting for turning people into one or feeding off of humans. But then again, a half human half vampire wouldn’t even be possible in Buffy so… yeah.

        • doresh

Don’t worry. I just made a Counter Monkey crossover comment :3

        • Andrew DeCaire

Angel is Half-Human half-Vampire. As he has a vampire body, but a human soul.

          • THE Sami Ryyppö

That doesn’t really count…. I mean the situation here is that one of the parents is human and one of the parents is a vampire which in Buffyverse is impossible since vampires can’t have children.

          • Andrew DeCaire

            Oh, okay :3

    • Groverfield

This was explained in the last Counter Monkey.

  • valou999

Oh my Lord, we need more Fortuneteller Spoony in the future….!!

  • KoeL

weird…NC never complained about the hole in the ceiling spoony made..
and to some guyz…he might not be a part of TGWTG and didnt depart with the best terms but that doesnt mean he is at war with the guy..relax

    • PeaTearGryfin

I noticed that too. I’m sure April wasn’t thrilled with the hole he left in the ceiling when he flew out of their house either.

    • Nel Arrancar

nope that side plot is never resolved, not brought up, no relevance to the story…yeah!

  • Daniel Tilson

Oh no… The Squirt gun Wars part 2!

  • Matt Williamson

These guys from TGWTG get worse and worse! Spoony’s vids get less and less frequent….thus appears a gap in the market! Please someone make an effort to fill a void in my life that Spoony masterfully created!

    • doresh

JonTron? Sure, he doesn’t post very frequent himself, but he has a funny archive of videos.

  • Delta001

while shooting a “semi-automatic”…a semi-automatic what? Thats like saying “im petting a fuzzy…”

    • lunayoshi

Well, but, you know… touch fuzzy, get dizzy…

  • ParadiseandFaries

…can you actually review FFU? it would be awesome!!!

    • Groverfield

As opposed to just riffing it? I’d personally rather see the other anime, FF:Legend of the Crystals but FFU official review would work too.

      • doresh

After Dirge of Cerberus. That game is the manifestation of everything that’s wrong with Squeenix these days.

        • Groverfield

What I was referring to is the two animes. While Derp of Herberders is plenty bad, FF13 exemplified it just as well. Who knows, that one … Bravely Default I think it was? made them re-evaluate how stupid they’ve been. Maybe FF15 will be good… well, maybe FF16. Unless 16’s a re-launch of their MMO for the 4th time, then maybe FF17 will be good? It’s gotta improve by FF17.

          • doresh

I now these are animes, but I feel he should tackle one more crappy FF game before moving on to other forms of adaptions. And I already know that DoC is lulzy.

Though I’m honestly curious how something FF related seems to have become extremely obscure. Then again, Gundam had a live-action movie, and that one seems to be ignored as well XD

Btw, how is Legend of the Crystals? Love me some FF5 :3

          • Groverfield

I haven’t seen it since it was new-ish and only got the second half of one episode. Best of my memory, it’s like Slayers, but with Butz/Barts as the sole lead and Farris is a rival sky pirate similar to LeBlanc from FF10-2. I think I saw Rena/Reina in the credits or something. Seriously been over 10 years, my memory’s probably all sorts of mixed up.

    • Orion Burns

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the ONE TRUE Final Fantasy anime, and I’ll hear no argument otherwise.

  • NeroAngelo

who else wants to see these 3 get into a 3-on-one fight with Uwe Boll

  • Liezl Bohnen

I’ve actually found myself not watching the Nostalgia Critic anymore. I’m not sure when exactly but it really feels like he’s completely jumped the shark with his show. For some-one who’s spoken out against Hollywood and movies being made for the wrong reasons (ie money and being as dumb as possible to appeal to as many people as possible) he seems to only go after Low hanging fruit these days, most likely because he knows it’s an easy way to get views. The hypocrisy doesn’t really bug me as much as it probably should… but I feel myself really not as interested in his thoughts on After Earth, Sharknado, Nicholas Cage etc as I did on even basic things like commercials from the 80s. I also find the bigger budget of his reviews have actually hurt them more than help them. Doug seems more focused on the review part of the review and not on the film he’s reviewing… if that makes any sense at all.
Also… whatever happened to the ‘Nostalgia’ part of ‘The Nostalgia Critic’.

All that feels present here, but as Spoony and Linkara (and Brad) are some of my favourite people on the net, This was still entertaining, if a little over-indulgent.But Linkara and Spoony’s rushing to meet the call was excellent XD so I guess what do I know?

It looks like you guys had fun though :) And good luck to Doug with his future stuff. it’s just… not for me.

Spoony’s what got me into watching online reviews though like… 6 years ago… and you’ve still managed to remain consistently great and fun to watch. And you always feel genuine :) same goes for Linkara. So keep up the good work.

I have no idea what the point of me writing this comment was to be honest. :P

    • Andrew DeCaire

Personally I don’t care how far Doug strays from Nostalgia, as long as he’s funny that’s all that matters to me. Though one of his more recent reviews “The Disney Afternoon” was by far one of his most nostalgic reviews period. So it’s still there. But despite I still love, and always loved his reviews, I can’t help but think that Doug would rather be an improv entertainer, than an internet reviewer.

    • PeaTearGryfin

I get what you mean with NC. It’s almost like he decided that he needs to show off his studio as much as possible ever since he actually got a budget. I’ve noticed that the review is almost a footnote anymore (honestly I feel the same way about Linkara as well). He’s kinda hard to watch when he is clearly just trying to justify his higher budget in anyway he can.

      • Groverfield

Then there was that thing where they was looking for new talent/shows for TGWTG for a bit, then after going through like 20 shows that were good from youtube, they had him go on and clarify that they specifically wanted higher production value, which means that someone with influence wants more Troma-level special effects, and less good shows that don’t show off their budget.

    • Sökerpunch

That sounds rather unfair to be honest. He’s always made fun of things that were kind of dated as his bread and butter material, so it’s no surprise he gets to some stinkers long after everyone realized they stink.
There’s just not enough stuff old enough to call “nostalgic”.
Plus, since everyone is talking about the movies he reviews he has to put more of himself and the show into the reviews.

    • MechPlasma .

I know what you mean, since he’s starting doing new movies he’s not doing anything with nostalgia anymore, but… well, it’s for the better, I say. He ran out of sucky popular nostalgic films a long time ago, and about half of his old films covered were either not-so-crappy or so obviously bad that nobody liked them, and eventually both. Now that he’s doing modern films instead, he actually has stuff to talk about. Still not as good as back in the heyday, but better than average. In my opinion, anyway.

But yeah, woo for Spoony! He’s managed to stay consistently good the entire time! ‘Cept for his sketches, which somehow managed to stay consistently awful the entire time instead.

    • Rhesus

Hah, that’s basically a summary of what got me in to watching channel awesome and cinemassacre :) Now I’m basically stuck just watching Spoony, not having much time to waste on other reviewers.

  • Vincent Beaudry

Hey Spoony, you should review Vikingdom – The Blood Eclipse.
It really feels like they tried to make a good movie… but it sucks balls.

  • Phantom DJ

Nice to see Spoony team up with Linkara and Nostalgia Critic again. But those three should sometime team up to take down another Uwe Boll flick House of the Dead.

    • Potato

I love that movie, and I don’t care who knows it. It’s great for drinking and riffing on with friends.

  • kapsi

The screaming guy and the fedora ranger? I’ll pass.

    • James M. Barber

You’re missing out, Spoony is prominent in this episode and its funny as hell.

      • kapsi

Okay I watched it after all. No screams, thankfully. The movie has some nice cast.

        • Ilja Lyubimov

Did you mean NC for the screamy guy? Because Spoony is way more reserved compared to latet NC.

    • BWM

Isn’t Spoony the “screaming guy”? BEEEEETRRRAAAYYAAALLL!!!!

  • Ilja Lyubimov

Well actually in the game the water did hurt. It’s a mutation of one of those old silly vampire concepts, namely that the vampires cannot (for some reason) cross flowing water. Kinda odd limit.

    • doresh

Still better than having the urge to count every last grain of rice they come across. I wonder how you would emulate that in a video game?

      • Ilja Lyubimov

I think AVGN reviewed a Sesame Street game where you play as Count Count. I guess that would be the closest it gets to your idea)

        • doresh

          Excellent.

  • Rick S

I just realized that the “water hurts vampires” is from Dracula – Prince of Darkness ( 1966 )
    http://cinemassacre.com/2011/10/10/10-dracula-prince-of-darkness

  • Aiddon

these are The Lord of the Rings of movie riffing. Too bad a lot of Boll’s other stuff is so boring it’s difficult to riff. At least House of the Dead is still there.

  • Garrett Monthy

This really made my day. Shed tears seeing them back together. And I don’t care who knows it.

  • likalaruku

“You never went to Castleton!” XD

  • Rakkrakk

Udo Kier is so wasted on this movie. :/

    • http://filmrunner.wordpress.com/ Film Runner

Everyone was wasted on this movie.

      • Rakkrakk

Udo Kier especially though. He’s my favourite actor and seeing him in a role where he barely gets to realize his strengths…

  • ThomasMink

Loved the whole thing.. but I think the Snob getting snobbed was my favorite. :)

  • Amanda Belaire

So glad to see you three (four counting Brad) working together again! This was hilarious!

  • Dúnadan

The guy who freaked out Spoony, Critic and Linkara…he’s Yuri from Red Alert 2!!!
Now *he* would be an excellent defensive measure.

    • pharaoh025

OMG. Even after you said it, I still didn’t recognize him immediately. Yuri is our master. We have much to learn.

  • Trevor J

It’s so great to see you with the Channel Awesome guys. and to see you killing it once again. The last few videos have made me check the site daily to see new content. A habit I haven’t done with The Spoony Experiment hasn’t done in many years. Keep up all the great work!

  • Rhesus

Am I the only one getting the sensation that TGWTG is having issues maintaining viewers and now have to sell out. I mean actively promoting advertisement on their site, moving to youtube and staging a catch-up show with Noah, completely neglecting the raging disband at the time and brushing it off like it was nothing.

    • locoma

It’s totally possible what you point out about TGWTG, but it’s also possible that they want a piece of the Youtube ‘explosion in views’ cake. All the channels in Youtube have duplicated their subs in less than a year and everyone have more subscriptions and views than ever to the point it’s getting impossible to match that in non mainstream sites (Youtube is the site #3, only after google and facebook, in the whole world).

    • Kimbro

I think it was a good thing brushing it off, That shit should be DEAD. And the actual parties involved(Noah NC) would never have taken it to that point had it not been fans and followers, other producers. Starting Twitter, facbook wars i think, but i could be wrong. But that topic should really just die out.

But i do think it seems a bit off that NC would suddenly return(with no motive, and also because of the past). And i haven’t watched NC and the producers stuff in a long time(never really did, the comedy and acting was TOO much for me)and it it is just not up to par for me anymore, And so many new faces have come up and the game is totally changed. And because Noah is doing some really good and touching some(at that time) rather niche subjects with the CM and D&D,tabletop stuff, Board games. He really found his own style, and came along way since that Freak show incident.

  • yamina_chan

It was really awesome to see you all band together for yet an other crossover. It was a ton of fun to watch =D Maybe not the very best one ever done, but definately great and with a lot things well done ^^
And props to how ‘the drama from a few years ago’ was played away, that was clever.
Hopefully you’ve all had fun, I know I did ^^

  • pharaoh025

About the whole “Spoony drama” thing. I’m SO VERY VERY VERY happy that they chose to address it jokingly “in-review”. It says “Yeah. It happened. We here at Channel Awesome got over it. Your turn, Internet!” I love it. Thanks for doing this, Finally we can move on (not that we grown-ups hadn’t, but you know, people on the Internet never forget ANYTHING. Nor forgive.) So making it “official” and making fun of it kinda says “fuck you if you still care”. Awesome!

    Now:

    UUUUWE BOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL!!

    — Hey, I was kinda disappointed that they didn’t give the murderous Snob either closure or sequel bait. I’m concerned for his well being. And by his I mean mine.

    UUUWE BOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL!!

    • Bennett LaRue

What did happen, if you don’t mind briefly recapping it?

      • Steve

haha hohohah hehehehee! Spoony said something over twitter to one channel awesome member that was kinda questionable, and immediately forgotten about. then somebody else dug it up a few months later and got super public berating him for it. Fans and haters got on board and a twitter war erupted. Eventually, spoony got perma banned from Channel Awesome and once again struck out on his own. Since then, his productivity has gone way up though.

        • StealthMarmot

I attribute his productivity increase to him getting a proper diagnosis and medication for his Type II Bipolar disorder, and him finding a new girlfriend in April who he is obviously nuts for and seems to be quite supportive and stable.

The whole twitter scandal was a real freak show, with people immediately taking sides and lots of assumptions. The problem was that it involved the type of thing that the internet loves to argue about, so while the parties involved might have had a slight argument it was turned into a war by the fans and followers.

Long story short, Spoony said something that a lot of people thought was in bad taste, one of the other producers used it a few months later as an example of why they couldn’t stand to subscribe to his twitter anymore. Spoony responded in a less than prudent manner. The problem is that they did this over Twitter instead of private messages, and the fans got involved in the worst possible way.

I don’t want to say the other producer’s name since it’s best if the issue dies with that and more people knowing who was involved may just aggravate old wounds.

This was a bad time for Spoony, and I am glad to see that he has gotten beyond all that and is obviously much happier now.

As for Channel Awesome’s reaction, well to be honest I am willing to bet Spoony had been planning to leave on his own for a long time. I think all parties agreed that it would be best to split so the issue died as soon as possible.

          • Bennett LaRue

Thank you, gents. I try to avoid that kind of drama as much as possible, but I also like to be in the loop so I know what they’re referring to.

          • nick

Yes, I’m sure it helped a whole lot that he found April, and I’m really happy for him, and also, yeah, it must have also done a whole lot that he’s actually getting help for his mental condition, and that they actually figured out what it was.

          • Kimbro

Yea i remember reading that Spoony and some producers felt they wasted their time on there because Channel awesome and the TGWTG Website was such a mess with no order in anything and was horrible to use( I AGREE!) and new guys showed who had put in no work overshadowed everything. And i think Spoony mentioned once that it was basically Charity work for him being there.
And that he got no new fans coming from the page and nobody could find his work, it was just a mess of a page.

So i think your right in that he had planned it for some time and that both parties agreed on it.

And after i started watching him again starting with the Counter monkey stuff it has only taken off and he have really found his OWN stuff to do. And he seems so much better in everyway which i think have something to do with what you mention+ him doing stuff he really loves:Old movies/D&D/Board games and all the other stuff.

Please don’t forget that the official reason was that Nostalgia Critic was going to end, and because that was too commercially risky, Spoony didn’t support the move and they went separate ways. I know the twitter thing was loud enough that everybody thinks it’s the real reason, but it isn’t what the people involved in the actual separation said.
Doug said multiple times after the separation that they were still going to do specials together (and oh surprise they brought NC back).

Ohhh I never knew that actually :O Glad to know it wasn’t just because of that stupid Twitter incident.

Not being able to touch water is part of the game, so if the game and movie were more popular, then this would be a an fan-issue. This movie is horrible, but im just adding this here.

    Poor Billy Zane…

One really has to wonder why Uwe Boll continues making movies even though he knows everybody hates them… Oh yeah! Money. Of course.

That was just amazing, you guys still got it. I can’t count how many times I laughed out loud, specially with the skits, you guys are getting really good at them, they’re really funny. Spoony flying, Linkara as Meatloaf, NC making that face at the end, Snob’s part… masterpiece. Thanks so much for this, it was awesome!

  • Leon Asian

Great video, guys xD It was amazing.

Hmm, Spoony looks great with long hair.

Are vampires the opposite of slugs? Their cells explode when they touch water.

  • Slevin424

I missed seeing these guys together. Great video, the sketches were hilarious.

    What about The Snob?

Finally, the greatest team on earth got together for another time. ^^

Man Nostaglia Critic’s stuff got so corny. Such forced humor. I haven’t really watched him since 2010.

  • Frank Zappa

Needs more Brad, also NC really isn’t funny anymore. Stopped watching his stuff years ago.

    • Kimbro

I so agree and i never really bothered with it to begin with.I like Brad and Noah(watched most of his),and i got nothing personal against Doug but everytime i watched NC there was just something i could not stand in his reviews i can’t really say what the exact reason is, but i never finished any of the 10-15 videos of his solo work i tried to watch. There was something that just turned me off quite fast in all the cases.

That is just personal taste i guess but they are doing the same almost the same stuff(Noah just covering so many areas i really enjoy) so it should not bother me that much, but i can’t finish his stuff and gave up on it a LONG time ago.

    You’re better than Solid Snaaaaake

  • brandon croker

Can anyone tell me the music used during the opening of the episode?

  • CaptainFishSticks

The introduction was just too drawn out with his assistants.

What they were saying wasn’t even really funny. We get, at this point, that Uwe Boll is a shitty director. They could have taken that opportunity to recap on the information they went over in the Alone in the Dark review instead of drawing out an unfunny joke about how horrible his movies are.
