Let’s Play Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh (Hour 5)

The Spoony One | Dec 30 2008 | more notation(s) |

The epic conclusion to this Puzzle of Flesh is an orgy of slime, lightning, mucus, and alien weirdness in Dimension X. Who survives? Who dies? Will Curtis prevail, or will Paul Warner’s new weight loss drug usher in a new golden age of pharmaceuticals?

More importantly, will Spoony survive with his sanity intact?

All signs point to “no.”

Noah, fantastic job! Giving the MST3K treatment to an FMV game was pure genius! And doing it for five freaking hours (on our end, I imagine it had to take you quite a bit longer on your side of the interweb) unbelievably awesome! Further exclamatory statement!

Seriously, thank you for the time, thought, humor and effort you put into riffing on such a shit game. I’m sorry you actually had to play Phantazmagoria in order to create such an hilarious walk through. If for some reason you go to hell when you die you can rest easy that Satan will have nothing in his arsenal that could compete with this game.

Your ending was dead on, hands down, one of the funiest things I’ve seen in a long time.

    Thanks again!

That was incredible. I wanted to wait for the last part to make my comment, but it was worth the wait. While it did seem a little slow at times, your commentary helped fill the gaps. you’re little ending was hilarious, though i hope i never see Benzaie like that again as long as i live. speaking of endings i loved your little homage to Clue to show us the different endings. Overall a great little playthrough. keep up the great work.

Wow the game’s endings were… weak.

But your addition? Holy caw! That’s well above and beyond what you had to do to make this whole journey through FMV hell worth it.

Looking forward to FFVIII Returns, and thanks for the laughs!

Please do consider doing some cold calls to talent agencies, traditional media companies, ad agencies, and new media companies right NOW. I’d be proud to put this Phantasmagoria 2 Riffthrough on a cover letter.

That was hilarious, im still wiping the tears from my face. Thank you good sir for sticking with this until the end, and giving us 5 hours of quality entertainment. If I were to met you in real life I would shake your hand and buy you a beer.

I have very high hopes for the future of the spoony experiment.

HOLY CRAP THAT WAS THE BEST ENDING EVAR~! (caps lock is cruise control for cool, btw)
I’m glad you’re going back to FFVIII because we all know that we hate it as much as you do. (I was an FF n00b when I picked it up and was really let down, after the fun that was FFVII and FF-Tactics)
This series was one that really let us get to know your style and I loved it. It brought me back to the days of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in soo many ways.

You are what is going good and right with the internets. God speed, my dear spoony! See you next update.

That was the single funniest ending i’ve EVER seen in a video. I say that alot when it comes to these kinds of videos, but I really mean it here. I was literally crying my eyes out because I was laughing so damn hard. Bravo Spoony, bravo! I hope you do more stuff like that in future videos because that was COMEDY GOLD!!! Benzaie dancing has scarred me for life and I couldn’t stop laughing.

Compared to the original game, Puzzle of Flesh seemed pretty tame. I mean, you never really got to see anything too graphic when it came to the murders. I remember getting my face cut in half in the original by crazy don. That was brutal to watch. It’s safe to say that the ending was worse than Fallout 3 AND The Thing PC game combined.

I’m REALLY surprised that Spoony is going back to Final Fantasy VIII. I thought that review was over. I was disappointed that he didn’t finish it, but I wasn’t too broken up about it seeing as how i’ve suffered through the game about 3 times. I hope the new videos are just as funny as this one was.

I really mean it when I say “keep up the good work.”

Wow, I had to wait an hour and a half for that thing to download, but it was WORTH IT.

I played this game back in 1999. It was my fourth adventure game – my first ones being Gabriel Knight 1, 2 and Phantasmagoria 1 (which I never beat). I got all of ‘em in sets back then, almost for free.

    Man, this brings back memories.

    … bad memories.

I’ve been following this since you first posted it and it was AWESOME the whole way. You also have no clue how happy I am that you’re going back to doing the FFVIII review. I love all of your stuff, but that was what introduced me to you so it has a special place in my heart! I really hope your site will bring you not only fun, but a monetary reason to keep it alive, because it’s one of the sites I frequent more often than any other. You bring a smile to my face with every update, as cheesy as that sounds… but it’s really true.

Loved the ending ^_^ The entire Let’s Play Phantasmagoria series was great, but I always thought you were at your most entertaining when torturing yourself with Final Fantasy VIII (and I say that as someone who actually liked the game for many of the same reasons you hate it). While I like most of what you do anyways, I’ve been hoping you’d return to FF8 for the better part of a year and I’m thrilled to see the next part is in the works.

Yet again, you have managed to make a masterpiece few people will be able to compete with.
The review was done with such brilliance and enthusiasm, and I can not understand how you managed to
play this game for more than 5 hours! That alone is worthy of a medal.
And I was really pleased to see that you will be heading back to the Final Fantasy- world. Even though I am not a fan of the games,
I always thought there was something missing after you were finished with the videos.

    Noah, I salute you! :)

I felt like the quality and jokes vained but its not an easy job to be funny all the time for so many hours. You have done something not many could ever get as close to achieving. Amazing ending and an amazing “review”!
I had to burst out in laughter when you were telekinetically beaten by the computer, also that Batman call and doctor phil (never heared someone else do him as good). Hopefully you can continue with other FMV adventure games :P!

I swear I expected an “AFLAC!” from the duck lol. After 27 parts of Phantasmagoria, FF8 doesn’t sound so bad? lol

Thanks for all the hard work you put into all your reviews, whether they be single part reviews or several parts like this. I’d be just as happy if you went on with single part reviews or continued FF8 or did a different game for several parts.

    Have a happy New Year!

The whole “Let’s Play” review was beyond epic man. that ending was to insane. i couldn’t stop laughing that it started to really hurt when i laughed. yea it is nice you will do more FF8, but i want more like this instead man. In my eyes the “Let’s Play” is far superior to the FF8 stuff. Great job and keep up the good work. YOU ROCK NOAH!!!!!

“By the way, what happened to the detective? Or the murder investigation? Damn plot holes.”

Yeah, that bugs the hell out of me too. There’s no way that they could pin it all on Paul Warner, or remove suspicion from Curtis.

And here’s ANOTHER plot hole. If alien-Curtis wanted to drive Curtis mad so he could take over his mind by killing his friends… what good is Curtis’ body if CURTIS IS IN JAIL FOR MURDER? It seems like something that alien-Curtis didn’t think about in his little plan. Or how about just building a new body? The other dimension x types seemed to build a new Curtis pretty quickly.

wow, This was an absolutely brilliant ending to a great series! I was honestly laughing most of the way through, especially the parts after the game was over XD Though the mirror part was… disturbing somewhat hehe.

Surprised to see that more FF VIII may be on the horizon. I shall eagerly await whatever comes next, be it more of FF VIII or something else entirely. I am sure it will be absolutely brilliant :)

Spoony, I officially love you :D A great ending, i loved you standing around waiting for the ‘player’ to click on something.

I’m sooooo excited about the return of FF8, I’ve actually been playing it these last few days as a way of reliving your reviews (and curing a mild case of insomnia – seriously, this game could put anyone to sleep). Just pace yourself with it, don’t feel like you HAVE to do it constantly. I’d be happy with a bit of FF8 every couple of reviews.

BTW, there was a joke i was waiting for you to do for ages. I thought you would show the final shot of Paul Werner’s head with the line: You’ve gotta be fuckin’ kidding me.

I just love all of the stuff at the end, especially at the bookshelf:

But why…oh why…the dancer… GAH I will be scarred for life.
Anyways, thanks for the Let’s Play, I can’t wait for more of your stuff.

Truly amazing! I spent New Year’s Eve night just watching the entire series of this Let’s Play. It sure beats my lame night out last New Year.

Also as a footnote, Warren Burton the guy who played Paul Warner, voiced Samos The Sage from the Jak games. So thanks to this Let’s Play, I’ll never be able to play a Jak game and run into Samos without thinking ‘I heard that Curtis!’.

Great work and have a Happy New Year!

Wow; FFVIII is coming back? Kickass. I admit its my favorite one (I don’t even know why I like it over FF7…), but its fun watching you tear apart everything in it.

As for this review? A clue homage, the Curtis outfit (great for halloween, scariest thing ever), the GODDAMN BATMAN…

    “I HEARD THAT CURTIS…OW…”

This game is hands down your best work.

The Clue themed ending was AWESOME, I really need to buy that movie…
Anyway really enjoyed the whole thing, kept me laughing XD made me remember a p&c game (Paradise) I played a while ago >.<

On that note I hope the run through of FF8 is going to be more then just repeating the word gay over and over I was going to watch those videos in the archives but that put me off. Yeah yeah Squall looks like Gackt during his Malice Mizer days, it’s better then the BuzCut clones that seem to be populating western games these days. Besides which I can’t open a gaming mag without some guy complaining about attractive japanese game men, it’s just gotten old.
I’d like to move past that and make fun of other things about the game… which reminds me I still need to finish it myself XD
    The HORROR!

I was really happy when I saw the ending, since I’ve been looking forward to THAT surprise for a long time, like everyone else.
    Bracing for some great laughs.
And few words of advice: I think it would be better if you chopped the Phantasmagoria videos into 30 minute segments because then each piece would take less time to load, which would make it easier to find the best parts in the review (and then there would be more videos for people to watch, which would bring more money to you from the advertisements in the videos). I think that would also be good for long reviews coming in the future.

The really sad thing is that the first Phantasmagoria was actually good with a simple, but effective and interesting plot. Along with nudity, violence, and gore, it added up to some serious entertainment. They fucked up so badly with this game.

That being said, your commentary was fucking hilarious. The ending was pure genius. I’d play The Spoony Experiment with enthusiasm. Thank you for this.

So…you’re getting dragged back into Final Fantasy VIII again…good luck with that. Definitely the worst Final Fantasy of the series…and it was those original videos that got me into your stuff to begin with because it was so dead on.

By the way, the Phantasmagoria stuff was awesome too…though I think the game may have been even funnier than your comments on it. :-)

Bravo! The parody at the end was particularly great, I laughed so much. Brilliant way to tie in the good news, too! …I actually feel a little bad now about you having to play through it again. Your hard work and resistance to fan-imposed torment is admired and appreciated, keep it up!

Hey, been a fan for a while and i’ve loved all your videos but dude… this is probably the best online video i’ve ever watched.

I really was ready for disappointment, i’m used to watching things going down hill. I feel that since since i’ve grown older that alot of things just dont live up to my expectations anymore, i’ve been let down loads with hype. I was let down by Harry potter book 7, zelda ds, family guy new series, the dark knight and lots other things and i cant explain why… but this… went beyond… way beyond good hoesome entertainment…. seriously, that simple spoof of you standing there taking the micky of how Curtis stands on one spot was enough to make me love this video and feel satisfied but then it was surpises after surprises…. some of the best jokes you’ve made… lol that Benzaie bit… then ff8 cameo!!! and i thought to myself…. ‘you do know that if you do a ff8 gag that everyones going to bring up the issue of bringing it back?’ but when it ends you said you actually said your going to continue it… DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m not one of those people who bugs you about why you havent continued it but i’m… so so happy your carrying it on…. i literally shook my arms madly in the air in a fit of happiness knowing that one of my hopes for your future reviews has come true…. you made my day… my month… my year!!!! i’m am so fucking happy right now! thanks so muich for putting so much effort into this final video, i’ve missed not having you edit your videos like your used to and it was so awesome… ff8 was triple layer of icinf awesomeness on the cake!!!!

thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

Hellfire, mate! You’ve done it again. Hour one was a bit slow (Mostly, though, that was the game’s fault), but most everything after was epic win. The ending caught me off guard, and I couldn’t help but grin as an idiot. Can’t wait to see more Final Fantasy, either. All in all, sir, you deserve every good thing I hear of you.

    “I heard that, Curtis!”

I thought it was over, I thought you were going to make a few closing comments before you shut off the camera. Then I saw the thing I was completely unprepared for. An almost perfect hilarious parody of the thing I had watched 5 hours of. That was awesome, I started cracking up as soon as the decision screen came up. Though I was expecting another one of those before it went into the final fantasy 8 thing, where you would have to click on the broken mirror, to illustrate how obvious some of the puzzles were by (heavily) emphasizing the thing you needed to click on.

Man i might enjoy watching your vids more than i like playing video games.. it’s like i don’t know myself anymore. But i must say this series was amazing. I watched the whole thing last night. I was so glued to it that I was up until about 4 am just watching one after another.

Thank you so much for giving Phantasmagoria II exactly what it deserved. I hope Lorelei Shannon is somewhere watching this, and maybe thinking about going back to scriptwriting school or something. I remember the heady days of reading InterAction magazine where her gothy little bonnet was practically overflowing with self-praise at how she was going to scare our pants off, and how Sierra Studios had all the magnificent visual technology to rival Industrial Light & Magic, and blah blah blah. Bollocks to that.

I read on a Phantas fansite that the original script for Phantas II was about twice as big as what got shot. Makes you think. Although not for long, because you just can’t plug up a bad story like Phantas by adding more to it.

Still, what a guilty pleasure this game is. I’m actually a little sad you’re doing Final Fantasy next (of all things?), because there are still so many really terrible FMV games out there that need the attention of someone like you. The top prime candidates I can think of are the Take 2 FMV-games “Ripper” and “Black Dahlia”, because they’re pretty much like Phantas II, in that there are very few actual adventure-game puzzles to solve, and TONS of FMV to riff on.

    Lesser good candidates would include:
“Harvester” (perhaps too obvious a choice)
“X-Files” (you already did a review, and would probably only appeal to X-Files fans)
“Gabriel Knight II” (which, despite the cheesy German and piss-poor blue-screen work was actually a decent game)
and any of the Tex Murphy games (because when something finally *does* rise above the cess-pool of filth that is FMV-games, it’s just hard to fuck with it).

I *WOULD* however *LOVE* to see what you could do with Trilobyte’s “The 11th Hour”. Not the actual game itself, mind you, but the 60 minute movie you get to watch in its entirety once you beat the game. There are savegames out there that let you skip the abysmal game itself and just revel in the joys of C-movie acting, gratuitous boob-shots and an old Victorian house that a) manages to look entirely UNLIKE the mansion in The 7th Guest, even though it’s supposed to be the same house, and b) rapes people. Yes. I can’t make this shit up.

Anyway. By and large, Phantas II was an inspired choice. From a fellow FMV-game enthusiast, who also has a hard time explaining just why he puts himself through such filth to other people, I applaud your efforts. Go man, go.

(Also, the “McFLY!” gag made me laugh so hard I had to rewind. Brilliant timing.)

I was searching earlier this week for clips of FMV games, as I recently bought a bunch for the Sega CD. (No, not the C+C music factory one.) Following through those YouTube clips, I found this review and your site.

After watching this, I will forever say “The Angry Video what?”

I couldn’t stop laughing throughout your commentary. This was so well done, I tried to re-install my own copy of Puzzle of Flesh….alas, my computer said “no WAY!”

“I heard that, Curtis…” will never get old. Neither will the description of why Curtis’ dad would go through such trouble to hide the letter. “You ever hear of a SAFE DEPOSIT BOX?!?!?”

Your jib, sir. I like the cut of it.

“I heard that, Curtis…” will never get old. Neither will the description of why Curtis’ dad would go through such trouble to hide the letter. “You ever hear of a SAFE DEPOSIT BOX?!?!?”

Your jib, sir. I like the cut of it.

    Hahahaha…
Believe it or not, but there was also… a french and german version of this game….
AND I HAD IT! (the french version, atleast).
Fun fact is, I liked it, back at the time , but that was because I had no comparison (and also, the sex/gory scene, I was close to be forbid to play because of that.)
Too bad he didn’t talk of the easters eggs.It appears that if this game was so short, it was because it couldn’t cary more in 5 CD, yet, they added LOTS of easter eggs in that game…You only get to see the “batman” and “my ass” (the first time, she say it only if you lay your house on her ass) in spoony’s video, but here some others:
-If you let your mouse on a mask in Curtis’s house, and type “BURP” then the screen will “shake” and you’ll hear someone belch.
-You can log on Trevor’s account (with the password “bellybutton”
-Another one:In chapter three, if you press shift, you can then click on the “locked” door in curtis’s bedroom, and you will hear homer simpson say something.
-Not finished yet? Here’s the worst: on the screen where curtis is facing blob’s cage, if you click on the tip of his nose, he will (badly) picks his nose! Then, if you repeat the process 4 times, specifically in chapter three,he will literally FART THE GAME DIRECTOR’S HEAD OUT OF HIS ASS!

Of course I hadn’t find that back in 1997, but I redownloaded the game, just 2 month before spoony started to review it(it works on xp….providing you use it with a software so the video works)but I found this fansite (click on my name) where someone listed them.Check it out, there is even an “easter egg summary screen”!
Dammit, what a weird game, thanks spoony to makes it even funnier!
(and sorry for my crappy english^^).

Amazing Let’s Play, Noah. I’ve been watching your videos ever since your first Final Fantasy review, and have enjoyed every single one. I used to have this game (if you can call it that) in my possession in the past, but still don’t know what happened to it to this day. I could never get past the 3rd disc, though (got bored with it). Awesome job with the commentary, though. The fact that you can keep up the jokes and the laughs for a whole 5 hour review makes you a god amongst reviewers. I can’t wait to see what you have in the future (and hey, provided I get around to it, I’m buying one of your ”I heard that, Curtis” shirts).

Oh, and if you get around to it, I found this site that has a whole guide on Easter Eggs in the game. You touched on some of them in the review (The cop saying ”My ass”, the batman one, etc.) But I guess there’s somewhere over 300 Easter Eggs! I think I’m going to find this game again just to see how many I can find! Anyways, here’s the link to them:

  • The Tortured Soul

I just watched them all back to back, laughing like mad most of the the time, but now im pretty sleep deprived and worried about that time where i stepped into the other dimension consisting solely of vaseline. It did have a few moments where i felt like shouting (first encounter with the keycard/door) but i think i can forgive you that for actually willingly participating in this. It must of been a real shitty ride unless you find your own jokes exceedingly funny.

Wow! I could sit through 5 hours of a game review but I still can’t make it through a LOTR movie ^^; Unfortunately I never even heard of this series and now I am thinking of trying the original since it’s obviously superior. The horror pc game that I played as a kid however was Inherent Evil: Chapter 1 The Hotel which was kind of weird… I mean I never saw chapter 2. From what I remember as a kid is that this game scared the crap out of me! Yet I kept playing at it. I also remember it being unlikely to beat. I never beat it. My stepdad also had the game and I believe he got farther then I did but I don’t think he beat it ever. It would be awesome to see a game review of it! It’s a lot more wild than this game. I just wanna hear someone professionally discuss it.

You know, I think i’ve seen every cutscene in the game, both from these videos and a few other sources, and I still don’t get it

The real curtis somehow got a power from the aliens or whatever they are, and did he take over Curtis when he fell asleep? Sometimes Curtis wasn’t even there, it makes no sense

Exactly why I dunno either, was Bob about to delete a hardrive, Tom about to figure something out, Terese going to do something, the Doc about to help Curtis, and what about Treavor?

    TETSUOOOOOO!

This whole LP was top-notch. This game had huge potential for a good tearing-down and you’ve definitely met it! I mean that was MST3k quality commentary.

Your segment at the end was the best. Bonesaw and Mcfly are what I really laughed at.

Phantasmagoria still remains one of the best things you’ve done, Spoony. And that’s saying a lot.

Ugh, have you ever read comments on the game from the people who made this? They all sound genuinely proud of it! I especially remember reading this thing from the guy who played Bob going on and on about how interesting a character he was and how he had all these hidden nuances. Yeah… I guess all they ended up on the cutting room floor?

I thought for awhile that you should do something like Gabriel Knight 2 or even the first Phantasmagoria. But then I realized, while GK2 has its corny moments, that actually is a *very* good FMV game with stuff like y’know, a plot, and action, and well-developed characters. And the first Phantasmagoria, while it looks like crap nowadays, actually has some real horror elements to it. So maybe they wouldn’t work so well. Aw, who am I kidding? You’d find a way to make both of those epically funny.

Keep up the good work my good man!

Can anyone provide some kind of translation for what the alien is saying to Curtis when he’s revealing who he is and giving the whole backstory and everything? No matter how loud I turn up the volume, I just *cannot* understand what he is saying! I hilariously watched all these and I’m DYING to find out who or what the Hecatomb is and Curtis’s past. All I got was that Curtis was sent into the portal when he was young, and that’s about it.

There must be something wrong with your audio. It’s speaking English, and everything is revealed. The Hecatomb is a projected image of the real Curtis Craig, who never left Dimension X after Paul Warner thew him into the portal. Apparently, going to another dimension gives you psychic powers. His actual physical form is that guy covered in crap towards the end. Anyway, the alien beings (funny we never actually see these guys) created a replica of Curtis for some reason and sent that back instead. It seems the real Curtis wasn’t too happy about this and during the events of the game is trying to drive replica Curtis insane and take over his body… or something like that. That’s everything in a nutshell I guess. I don’t know why his mother tried to kill him. I guess she sensed it wasn’t her son or some bullshit.

    Thanks. ^^

It wasn’t my audio; I know that he’s speaking English, but the alien’s voice is so completely garbled enough as it is, and with the loud sound effects and music over it, it was rather hard for me to hear.

I keep thinking about his mother, too, and why she kept randomly abusing him. I pretty much thought the same thing: maybe she had the feeling that it wasn’t really Curtis anymore. I wish they didn’t leave so many things unanswered, but oh well.

You somehow made the best LP I’ve ever seen by playing the worst game that I’ve actually watched be LPed
…your version of this game was actually 1000x scarier than the corny-badly acted attempts at horror the game pulled out of it’s ass.

First of all, I love this site and I have been making my way through it since I found it. I have watched every single game rant/review that you have posted. This includes the 5 hour Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of the Flesh. I loved it a lot, but may I submit one suggestion: you should have some sort of badge of honor in the form of a picture that states something to the effect of “I watched all 5 hours of Phantasmagoria 2…..Bow down to me!!” This is merely an example of what it could say. If you think this is a good idea Spoony, email me back and I will be happy to design the picture for you, since I know you are a very busy man.

    Wow. Just wow.

I sat through this marathon of an LP in all of about 7 hours. (Yeah, I took a few breaks) MOST. EPIC. LP. EVAR. Seriously. I wish destroying objects with a hammer was this entertaining, (And I do enjoy destroying shit.)

The ending…just pure GENIUS. So much genius, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if Dr. Insano was involved.

The game should have been called: Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Why There Weren’t Very Many Puzzles. You’re right, the only puzzles were the star gate thing and the circle puzzle to the masochist’s wet dream door. And possibly the one where you actually had to RIGHT-CLICK. WTF. How did this get past testing?

“Oh right, this game wasn’t tested.”

The fact that you referenced Office Space at least 4 times in the game kicks 10 shades of ass all by itself.

I had heard legends of your awesomeness on YouTube and discovered you just two days ago with your FF8 review. Had no idea this genius of an LP existed.

    Keep up the work.

I was watching this on you tube originally and have found it to be freakin awesome! I was going to play the game again as i have not played it in over 10 years and dont really remember much but i found this to be so much better than playing the game. Freakin awesome, definatly a spoon fan here. Keep up the work!

Due to you tube dropping clips off i have not been able to watch episode 20, 23, and 24. Unfortunatly when i tried to watch the full hour long videos on the web page i found that where video 4 ends and video 5 starts there is a huge gap. I dont know if this is a glitch with my system or not but ill try and watch video 4 again (with my slow internet connection). My ultimate solve to this would be…..

Whats the chances of being able to buy this review (and others) on DVD??

I agree, I’d definitely consider buying this review if possible (although I’m sure it can’t be done due to copywrites, though Roberta Williams seems pretty cool about that stuff nowadays).

Thanks for the most epic LP ever. Laughed my balls off the entire trip.

And using Clue clips/soundbytes to finish it made my day.

I agree, I’d definitely consider buying this review if possible (although I’m sure it can’t be done due to copywrites, though Roberta Williams seems pretty cool about that stuff nowadays).

    Great job, Noah!

I just watched the entire Review in one sitting and I loved every minute of it!
There were so many references that I literally couldn’t stop laughing… but it made me realize, what a huge nerd I am… Warhammer, Magic: The Gathering, WoW, Seinfeld etc etc… oh man!

Well anyway… Keep up the good work!

    PHANTASMAGORIA: WILL IT BLEND??

You simply own man you actually managed to make the five hours entertaining. I feel like i’ve watched a terrible movie that was stretched too far…

Man when the detective interrogated him for the final time i would have been like Bitch if i was a murderer you’d be dead already! XD

Pwnsome review man i actually watched it through all five hours twice.. It’s that good of a review.

*sigh* Did Team Ninja produce Benzaie’s “contribution” to the video? Can’t they resist the urge to put jiggle physics into everything?

Aside from Part I, I watched all of this in a marathon. Damn, man! You are tied with only one man in the world of Let’s Plays and riffs! I SO hope to see more! Maybe, if it would not be much of a nuisance, you can also show off “Under a Killing Moon” after Ripper. Though…the constant swapping between 8 discs might be a little much…

Also, I have heard a lot about your Final Fantasy VIII review…I haven’t played the game yet, but I have hopes it is good. Of course, with SEVERAL Final Fantasy titles, it ALL depends on the person. Some hate VII, some hate X, some hate XII, some hate V…it’s just all over the place. Heck, I’m sure someone out there hates IX. But, no matter what my personal view on FF8 be, I’m sure your 11-part review will be quite entertaining.

I’ll be back to marathon that after I’ve played and beaten the game myself, as I am sure spoilers await.

Have I also mentioned you need to do MORE of these? Oh, my god, this was HILARIOUS! Five stars, A+, 100%, 10 out of 10! I would be as humble as a homeless man if I could have even a fraction of the talent you have with this stuff!

(Okay, so apparently my comment is too long for a single post. It’d help to know what the character limit is …)

@Fuery87: Thanks for the recap. I got the gist of the backstory, but I was also confused about the details. (I’m still not sure how it was killing those people.)

I should probably warn anyone who hasn’t seen the vid yet that this comment contains spoilers.

Y’know, I really appreciate it when redshirts survive, especially in a horror game/book/movie. But are you telling me that out of all the ones who could’ve survived, it was the shallow female love interest, Miss Sure-We-Can-Have-an-Open-Relationship-Until-I-Find-Out-You’ve-Been-Sleeping-With-Someone-Else? (That scene of her getting jealous when she finds Therese’s markings on Curtis’ chest was painfully cliché.) I mean, I didn’t particularly care much for Therese, but at least she had a distinct personality.

*sniff* Farewell, Trevor. You truly were a good character in your own right, which is more than anyone else in this game can say for themselves. (You also kinda remind me of one of my best friends, and your interactions with Curtis kind of remind me of our relationship—dammit, there’s just no way to say that without including a shit-ton of unwarranted innuendo.)

How ridiculous was that ending though? You have the big confrontation with Paul Warner (“I heard that Curtis”) and the Hetacomb in Room 314, then Curtis wandering aimlessly in Alien Intestine Space, then a second confrontation with the Hetacomb and Other-Curtis, then more wandering aimlessly in Intestine Space for a while. Where was the effing climax?

Despite the wretched execution, this game actually had a promising plot to begin with. I was genuinely curious to find out what was going on and how it would all turn out. Unfortunately, as with many mysteries, the answers it gave were not nearly as exciting as the questions it raised.

And those ending choices were so incredibly cliché. Either Curtis goes back to Intestine Space or he stays on Earth with his one-dimensional girlfriend and all is well—except that Curtis is still experiencing EvilPangs, dun dun dun dun. Maybe it’s not over yet, after all. Puh-leeze, I’m not even slightly a horror genre buff and even I have seen that like a million times before.

That police investigation subplot also went nowhere. Chekhov’s gun must’ve been packing a blank with that one.

I know it was sappy and incredibly stupid, but I found the scene where Young Curtis makes up with deranged mommy kinda sweet.

(All right, it isn’t the length that’s the problem, it’s something I wrote in this section of the post. Again, it’d be helpful to have some idea what that is.)

I feel a number of the jokes were rather weak, an found many of your references incomprehensible, on top of the risible epilogues and numerous anti-climaxes.

… All of which pales into invisibility in light of the awesomeness of this review. When you’re at your best, Noah (in other words: most of the time), you leave me gasping for breath.

With one or two exceptions, your voices are fantastic, and just when I think you’ve exhausted your supply of new ones, you break out the Scotty imitation. (I hope you do that voice in other reviews, I haven’t heard nearly enough of it yet.)

The parody at the end with you in the t-shirt and glasses, imitating the waiting-for-the-player-to-click screen and the punched-by-the-computer effect and the phone calls and everything … comic gold.

And you used my very favorite line (just the way you deliver it is so hilariously funny) at the very end of the review. I was afraid we’d seen the end of that joke. True, it wasn’t as funny lacking the proper set-up, but it was still the best way to cap the whole thing off.

    “I heard that Curtis.”

THIS GAME IS AMAZING, at the beggining it have such a nostalgic/depressive feeling, It makes you feel like experiencing the real life of a ordinary normal guy, I can’t be sure wheres the great magic of the game, but can asume that the depressive music really helps you feel in the character. I have watched the entire review in 4 days, and I have dreamed of it in the first 3 days, and I can say, that was like disturbing nightmares. At this point I can say that this game is a really DEEP EXPERIENCE. Its like watching a very long movie, and the end, ok that really sucks. I would say that the reach it climax at the mother fucker “Bob” death, afther that the magic fade out. I really enjoyed this review, probably your best game review done. Congratulations.

I watched your Knightmare vid on Youtube and loved it (Even watched it a second time a week later), then found this on Youtube and … like several, indeed lots of, people replying here, I watched the entire thing over the course of two evenings – and it was absolutely fucking hilarious. Thank so you much for the laughs and the amazing effort you put into it. The absurd references, your reactions, your gay Trevor voice… everything.

Anyway, I’ve always been a wuss with horror stuff like in Phantasmagoria, I’d never have lasted long playing it as a kid (I think it’s the tension – which the music did a good job of in this game until the volume slider became possessed), but it’s been a hell of an experience to see it play out – I can’t believe how lame the gore and scary stuff in it actually is. The whole game was classic Sierra puzzles and dialog put into an actual (interactive) movie, with hilarious results. This is yet another fucked up adventure game I’ve seen which always turns crazy – check out the Darkseed and Cthulu game play throughs at the Let’s Play site: http://www.letsplayarchive.com/
Darkseed 2 also has an amazing scene, “Here Mike. This will explain everything.”

Also, I’m sure I’ve seen Monique Parent (Joaclyn) before. … at first I thought she was Orgasmo’s girlfriend … a google search revealed the truth: http://www.webalice.it/pablone78/videos70.htm (NSFW!!!). Oh well, close enough.

On that (blonde) bombshell, thanks again.

    CLUE! FUCK YEAH!
    *ahem*
In commemeration of the awesomeness of this LP, I have put together a little Top 5 list. So, without further ado, Top 5 Likable characters in Phantasmagoria 2 – A Puzzle Of Flesh. Why 5? 5 WAS HARD ENOUGH.

#5. Patricia – Bumped up from Honorable Mention because a character who’s never shown on screen definately deserves a spot on this list. Even though having to hear her over the phone puts her in the game and knocks some points off, the fact that you don’t have to watch her act is enough to push her up on the likability scale.
#4. Tom – If you’ve ever worked under more than one supervisor, you’ve met Tom. He’s the supervisor who is business forward, but flips of your manager behind his back alongside you. And who wouldn’t find that at least a little likable? But, isn’t almost laughable adherance to company policy annoying? Yeah, a little. But when you remember he’s just another working stiff like the rest of us, you can’t begrudge him the number 4 spot. Unless he really was writing Tifa Porn. If so, he’s #5 and Patricia’s #4.
#3. Borderline Staff and Patrons – This can only work if you take them as a whole. From the man who pierced Curtis’ navel, to the woman who informed him Therese was going to destroy him, to Kevin Smith keeping guard at the unbelievably lame puzzle door, this motley crew attempted to release us from the monotony of Curtis’ hum-drum life, even if only momentarily. Any group of characters who step up and actually try to entertain us, deserve a spot on the list. And that spot is #3.
#2. Marianne Craig (Curtis’ Mom) – Once you found out what Curtis was, and realized she wasn’t evil and that he really is a disgusting monster who drove her to insanity, how could you not find the many ways she tried to torment and harm him funny and delightful? Hell, even before that realization, some of you probably wanted her to come back and beat him some more. The one who deserves the number 2 spot is definately her, the true victim in all of this. Well, aside from…
#1. Trevor – Come on, like you didn’t expect this! It’s Gay Spoony! In addition, he’s probably the only character whose death may have saddened you. His anti-humor was intentional and he was the only love interest who had true human depth and the only one you really wanted to see win in the end (no pun intended I swear!). So, even if he didn’t in the game, he certainly wins here. Besides, it’s refreshing to see a gay character who isn’t holding his wrist out and calling people ‘girlfriend’.

    • http://twitter.com/BillHiers Bill Hiers

Well, in response to #2, it’s not like Clone!Curtis asked to be created or even knew what he was or understood why his “mother” abused him, so he didn’t deserve Marianne’s cruel treatment of him. Her anger over losing her son is understandable, but she crossed the line by taking it out on the clone who was basically innocent, especially considering his one and only crime is that he exists.

So, in the end, Curtis is not a human being and is actually a shapeshifting clone whose amnesia is simply a result of his not being the actual Curtis?

I loooove that the actress playing Jocilyn probably has the most lasting success of the entire cast, working in softcore porn (seriously, check out her credits on IMDB.) I guess after this POS she had nowhere to go but up (and down, and up, and…slap…my apologies…)

Great job, Spoony. This game looks thoroughly unfun to play. Kudos on making this entertaining. The ending was genius! Its almost frightening how well it copies the game perfectly. Was the first game any better than this? If so, would you do a Let’s Play of Phantasmagoria 1?

This was my first experience with Spoony and it was incredible. The amount of comedy and satire issued while playing this game was incredible. I had not laughed as hard or as long in awhile and will have to pass it around to my friends. Thanks.

For its day, the game was pretty hi-tech and dealt with themes that were ahead of time for game. This was also when Congress and the press was screaming bloody murder about video games. It had graphic violence and gore, profanity, child abuse, kinky S&M nightclub scene and not just any openly gay co-worker, but this is probably the first time in a game where the hero is, apparently, bisexual. Heck, that would have been unheard of on the home console systems and I cannot thing of two many non-heterosexual characters in games during the 1980s – late 1990s.

I enjoyed graphic adventure games, and the full motion video games were, for good and ill, a part of growing up in an era of PC CD-ROM and the Sega CD. Alas, the last great graphic adventure game I played was the first Longest Journey. Many of the classis are hard to run on modern computers. Sierra was the leader in graphic adventure games for its day, but they tended to go make games that lots of incredibly hard (even to the point of insanity) puzzels or games that had very few puzzels that we a bit too easy except for the same that it was all guess-work, point n’ click trial and error.

I do recall seeing a interview online about the two games. I take it the second one was not a commercial success because their was never a part 3 and Sierra did not make too many graphic adventure games after that.
I never beat the game. So…apparently, the major character was not only bisexual (with a screwed up childhood) but a clone from another odd galaxy where the real Curtis had been imprisoned and abused until finally creating some sort of pychic monster to go after the player (cloned Curtis). Hmm.

What chemicals were the aliens unsuccessfully messing with? Why dont we see any of the aliens? Were they all on a coffee break or does those little bug creatures run the show? Will he learn to control his alien identity? Will he find happiness in a blond that treated him like dirt or in another man?

    We may never know.

Hey Noah! (Sorry if you don’t like being called by your name, I just like going by names better than nicknames or account names) Anyway, I watched all of these, and all that I didn’t like was in the last one where you kept hitting yourself… Even if it was faking.. I dunno, maybe I’m just weird that way, but I don’t like people hurting themselves. But this was a fun way to spend my night. (It’s now 5:30 in the morning) And if you’re thinking what I’m thinking you’re thinking, I didn’t mean it like that. Anyway, I haven’t watched too much of your stuff, but of what I’ve seen, you’re a really cool guy. Keep up the good work. :)

I just watched ALL 5 HOURS back-to-back, and while it's an awesome Let's Play by Spoony…

    You know what?

… I think the story of this game is actually not that bad.

And besides the annoying cop, this game seems to have a pretty good production value, as far as FMV games go.

  • malaloba

I can't believe that I've seen all five hours….I really have no life….And think that I've learned things that I never EVER wanted to and am emotionally scarred for life.

But you know what? I think it was worth it just for your commentary. And that ending.

I had an inner Megadeth fanboy squeal when evil-Noah picked up the phone and said “Hello me, it's me again!”

  • maxxim82

Oh geez I'm not gonna be able to watch this anymore. How about you get over your homophobia and sexist comments before trying to be funny ? Because in this state, you're such a huge disappointment. You have no idea how much of a turn off your (obvious) personality is. This has been a huge waste of time, what a huge pile of bollocks, especially in this age/century.

  • Lowcifur

Wha? After how many hours (out of five) did you decide that this was a huge waste of time? I mean, I'm sure you were watching, pen and paper at the ready, hoping for some legitimate Phantasmagoria walkthrough tips. Instead, you were forced to watch hour after hour of…ugh…comedy.

I agree, though, about his obvious personality (whatever the hell that means)…the first thing I think whenever I see Burton is that he's a sexist homophobe (he has a fear of Homo Sapiens). Luckily, Spoony keeps him in check.

  • maxxim82

…and what exactly is your comment supposed to mean ? You don't have to try so hard to sound smart and my comment isn't really the place to do that if you're desperate about proving something.

The fact that I commented on the fifth part doesn't mean I sat and watched all of it; that's one bad job of being a smartass, buddy.

It's quite clear what I mean about the personality issue and by the way, what is it that you're trying to prove again ? That it's all some “comedy” and that it shouldn't be taken seriously even when every other joke stinks of homophobia/sexism ? Or…what ?
I don't think there's anything funny about violance, be it verbal or physical. If you don't know how to be funny without bashing a community, it's not my comment you should be worried about.
And please, do let me know when you get over your pointless sarcasm.

  • Lowcifur

First off, I'll never be over my pointless sarcasm. It's a part of my culture, and I'd thank you not to defame it, sirrah. Buuuuut, I guess I can be civil since I don't really like being a total douche (as good at it as I may be).

I really don't see what parts you're specifically complaining about, but to each his own. I think you may have enjoyed the series more if you started from the beginning, that way the jokes wouldn't have seemed like such non sequiturs.

  • dragonkiller48

    LMAO so did I.

  • http://rinaz.net rinaz

Yay! The best video game review ever!

I used to play phantasmagoria 1 and while I thought that it was a horrible game, I stumbled upon one of your clip on youtube and then I was hooked enough to watch all of the series back to back. Wahaha!

Huge respect for you for enduring this game from the beginning to the end. You made it so bad that its good :-D

  • Kirzan

Ahhhh god I love your “wimpy person” sound when curtis throws the monitor.

  • thewhitetornado

God, such a great review, and the ending was amazing XD

I have to ask though, what's the McFly clip from?

  • bethjoyd

Alright, I'm still watching this, but I HAD to pause and comment because I'm a total geek and noticed this: the music that plays from 2:26 to 2:35 is from the anime Hellsing. The track is called The Original Sin, listen to it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg-JpsHpG18

Is that coming from the game, or something Spoony added? If it's in the game, then that's odd, because Phantasmagoria 2 came out in 1996 while Hellsing came out in 2001. So . . . huh.

  • fieulinetabby

    YMCA!!!

    Yeah B)

  • The_Hyphenator

It's from Back to the Future Part 2, when Marty's 2015 counterpart gets fired by his boss.

  • The_Hyphenator

Great job as always, Spoony. The commentary was hilarious, and the sketch at the end was great. Funny thing is, there were parts of the game that struck me as genuinely creepy or suspenseful. The computer and phone gimmicks actually got to me a few times (I guess because the boring office drone setting resonated with me), and the overall premise had some real promise. It's just a shame it got bogged down with such rote, boring gameplay and poor writing and acting execution.

  • thewhitetornado

Thanks a ton dude, that's been bugging me for the longest time, haha.

  • Oscar F'n Wilde

I love the “Spoony Phantasmagoria 2″ game play – you got all the idiocy of the game into perfect detail. Good riddance, Curtis!

    What's the first Phantasmagoria like?

    • Anonymous

It’s worth noting Roberta Williams had nothing to do with this game, and it certainly shows. She was lead designer on the original Phantasmagoria, which was far superior to this pile, as well as other Sierra game classics. She was asked to revive the franchise, but the name had already been dragged through toolboxes, football pads and office politics and marred beyond repair, she refused.

lol great Clue reference in the end there, used to love that movie :]

  • http://www.facebook.com/amedeus8 Nick Gotshall

That was the greatest thing I've seen in forever. You give MST3K a run for their money and then some, man. And hey, you saved me having to play that game! I loved the first one, but never had it in me to try number two.

Also, you're a retroactive psychic, apparently. I don't know how you did it, but every single time I sat here and said something like, “Wait! His name's Tom not Bob!” you corrected it later, and every time I threw out a good reference you didn't make, you still made sure to go back and do that later, too. It got creepy after awhile, actually.

Like, creepier than the game itself.

  • http://twitter.com/kazenokaitou omi-kun

I laughed until I cried! I haven't been this entertained in a long time, that was amazing. The game itself actually made me jump a few times, but I am easily scared probably. I'm glad you were there to crack a joke through all of it, hahaha. Fabulous~!

I have watched your entire playthrough of this game no less than three times. I was a huge fan of these types of games back in my early teens when they first came out, and had played Gabriel Knight II and Phantasmagoria. This was my first time seeing this particular game. Your commentary is priceless. I know it must sound rather pathetic to have spent 15 good hours of my life watching someone play a computer game, but after a day of going to Grad School and doing advanced statistics for my GA, I need something like this. Masterful, sir. I look forward to more of this in the future.

Wow, the “actual ending” was the best part of the whole 5 hours. Great job Spoony One.

Anyway, I was actually surprised that they used Dimension X Portal / Evil Projecting Twin as the explanation for the whole mess.
For most of the time I was convinced that Curtis was still in a coma at the mental hospital and that all the stuff that happened was the result of his Id having a block party. That would also explain the peculiar fact that everyone was lusting after his scrawny body.

So basically the moral of this game is that if you are a dude who is in love with your male best friend but dating a clingy, possessive hot chick it means you’re an alien clone made of rat shit and you should suppress your homosexuality and live in a world you don’t belong in just to make your annoying hot girlfriend happy.

    Good. Good moral there.

This game is bullshit. But watching this Let’s Play makes me indescribably happy. Good work as usual, Spoony!

This was my first experience with Spoony and my God, you sir are a brilliant light from Heaven. The entire Let’s Play was thoroughly entertaining, especially as a die-hard fan of MST3K whom you obviously were inspired by.

The “actual ending” is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a very long time and I can’t remember when I last laughed that hard. You’ve made another fan here Spoony.

just one question: how much of what he said throughout this whole thing was off the cuff? seriously, the whole series of videos was great, I find it hard to believe he didn’t edit in the comments he was making when so many of them were as funny as hell. like a percentage or something would be nice.

    • dennett316

I can only think of one that seemed scripted, and that was the “I sense a baldness in the force” line as he said it before Tom came on screen.  There was undoubtedly more, but that’s the one that stood out for me.
      Either way, love this LP.

you know for it being called Puzzle of the Flesh there’s a serious lack of puzzles and flesh it shoud be called “Phantasmagoria 2: Puzzle of why so many women like Curtis”
also that ending was worthy of M. Night Shamalyan, seriously we all saw it coming
and Theresa was wearing panties in that so called sex scene!!!!
why would the guard think Curtis killed the doctor? is there a machine they made that turns people into a Huddle House Pancake made Play-Doh?????
Props Spoony for siting through that monstrosity of a game, i could barley play a Blizball game in the other piece of crap FF X

You know I would like to play a Spoony FMV game. You could wander his apartment, watch crappy Highlander sequels, take crazy pills, and combine the golf club with the rubber bowl to make a plunger and solve the bathroom puzzle.

Then Insano shows up and tears Tidus’ facial skin off to make his own blitzball and beat Squall to death with it. Just to keep the FMV game standards at their usual place.

What’s funny is, watching the plot stumble along, makes me think, despite all the blantantly obvious plot devices used, I’m thinking at the back of my head, that he’s being strung along, by one of the only characters whom we barely ever see, but has a huge significant impact on the “Flanders” of a character that Curtis is.

I love how you used the transition scenes from Clue between the different endings. As well as the version of “Shake, Rattle and Roll” that rolls over Clue’s end credits. Great touch.

This game seemed more like a point and click visual novel. You present items to move the story along but there were not really enough puzzles to count it as a point and click adventure game.

That was awesome, Spoony. Now I got to see the game without having to play it and with hilarious commentary to boot. I laughed, a lot! I have been wondering for years where the scene of Curtis in that crazy pink, fleshy get-up fit into the game (cause that is the only thing I saw on my brief time on set in ’96.) Anyways, totally lame game, but I have to say I think the game had overall great ideas that just got executed badly. It’s too bad, because Sierra On-line (as it was called then) rocked with the first Phantasmagoria. Now I know the mystery of the big, pink, fleshy, Curtis suit and I can die happy. Thanks Spoony!

Gotta say it Spoony… making a joke about a child dunked in KY, then going on to immediately sing “I want to fuck you like an animal” could seem kinda creepy by association…

  • http://twitter.com/BillHiers Bill Hiers

An excellent LP all around, Noah. Despite the fact it was meandering and clunky I rather liked this game’s story. With a few tweaks it could’ve been pretty decent. Not great by any means but certainly better. I feel it would’ve made a better feature film than a game, though, actually.

I love how Evil!Curtis just bitchslapped Warner aside like nothing. “Bitch, *I’M* the main villain in this game!”

  • Thomas Richard

You know what’s really great about this?  I just looked this game up on Wikipedia to see if I could get some better understanding of the plot (no such luck) but here’s the best thing.  There is a notice on that page about this LP under “Recpetion”. XD

  • Pie Anonymus

Could anyone tell me what the music is for the alternate ending screens?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/James-Anspach/1767739498 James Anspach

It’s from the 1980′s movie, Clue, with Tim Curry and a bunch of other folks.  The black and white cards and the music basically introduce the alternate endings in the same way.

A Puzzle of Flesh must be  referring to that one puzzle at the very end of the game. I guess they were very proud of that.

  • Jessica Clarke

The sad thing? This may be a terrible game with a terribly paced plot, and yet their characterisation of a gay character is better, less stereotypical (and more existent) than most TV shows today.

  • Morphman Morgan

It’s funny how the sketch at the end is the scariest thing of all these 5 hours of video!
I damn near soiled my pants during some of that.

  • Strelnikov

I like how Spoony edited all the smaller videos into hour sections….

Jesus, that plot….it follows all the 1990s cliches about evil corporations, Stephen King-like hallucinations, clueless cops, an “X-files”-like vibe because that was the biggest sci-fi show on the air, and so on.

At least some of these people can get a SAG card for their trouble, I guess.

  • Segatron

I loved, and still love Sierra’s classic quest titles.  I would make a beeline for their section in game stores whenever I was looking for some money to burn as a kid.

That is what baffles me about Phantamagoria 2, It’s clearly got the old Sierra cleverness under all those layers of Nickelodeon slime.  Like the two colored workspace that, in any of their other titles, would have helped the player get their bearings in a pseudo-3D environment.  But then it got bogged down and twisted in nonsensical logic jumps for movement, inventory management, and even storytelling.

And in the end, it was so linear, it was almost “Dragon’s Lair”

Maybe nostalgia has let me overlook the flaws of the older games, but even nostalgia can’t change that much.  I was able to climb a beanstalk with my arrow keys, after all.  How did that become easier than using a toolbox?

If you’ll permit me to rant a little more…  The ending…  just…  Why is going back to the aliens “the right thing”.  I could barely hear original Craig over the soundtrack, but they are clearly indifferent to human life, and the consequences of their actions.

It seems more than fair to shove an activated nuclear warhead into dimension x with a painted smiley face than to just shuffle back in because they are demanding “what belongs to them”  These aliens saw Warner as their equal, after all.  What claim do they even have on anything?  This is the sort of thing that other Sierra games would explain.

And the only other option is to be some sort of metaphysical time-bomb in our world, though the only being with demonstrated psychic ablities is now dead.  And was never a native of X to begin with.

  • ramses ijff

Watching this again made me realize something:

No offense to any reviewer, but this is the single damn best play-through on the internet. Yes, better than freeman’s mind. Even better than the ripper play-through.

You know ive got to admit, I am kind of shocked at how not stereotypical they played Trevor. I mean I am being completely honest when I say that he is probably one of the first gay characters in gaming history to be presented in a serious and respectable manner and I do have to give them a lot of credit for that. Shame the game itself is so crappy.

  • DrXymen

I have to say, the end of this video is one of the greatest Spoony bits ever.

The phone thing! He dials “A DUCK” and then is *cosmically horrified* to hear quacking on the other end. This is a perfect example of how one guy with zero budget can make me laugh out loud more than infinite seasons of the motherfucking Big Bang Theory.

….I just love musing over the fact that this game looks as fake as it does compared to Myst. Myst was made with 1991 technology, by a team of FIVE PEOPLE TOTAL (Even Co-Founder of Cyan Rand Miller acted in it), and they did this in a GARAGE WITH NORMAL COMPUTERS OF THE TIME, and it became the first PC Game to rival a Hollywood blockbuster and stayed on top for 10 YEARS.
This game had so much more to work with and they blew it….

This game is as opposite to Myst as you can get while staying remotely in the same genre

You should do Phantasmagoria episodes. Twoards the end of the game I was laughing so incredibly hard I almost fell out of my chair! xD You rock spoony ur amazing

  • http://twitter.com/SteveMcQuark Zack Bentley

I actually think the story is really interesting. A gay character who isn’t treated as strictly comic relief, sexuality treated as serious drama and not just fanserivce, a bisexual lead who isn’t used as pandering sex appeal, some genuinely good foreshadowing like his anger at being told he looks like his mom. Even the idea of a estranged alien hybrid twins is kinda cool.

I mean sure, the acting is hit and miss, most of the horror effects flop, and the puzzles are pretty lame, but it handles a lot of taboo issues in a mostly mature way not seen in many games today even, besides maybe Catherine.
